Ben Davis

Ben Davis of Bend died Wednesday of natural causes. He was 83.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at High Desert Baptist Church in Bend.
Mr. Davis was born Feb. 1, 1921, in Billings, Okla., to Ben Hays and Tressie (Bartell) Davis. He graduated from Fremont High School in Los Angeles and served in World War II.
He married
Doris (Huettl) Davis on July 4, 1954, in Redmond.
Mr. Davis worked as a planner-setter with Brooks Scanlon Lumber until his retirement in 1983.
He was a charter member of the Grace Baptist Church in Bend and a current member of the High Desert Baptist Church.
Mr. Davis enjoyed camping, canoeing, reading Westerns and being active in his church.
Survivors include his wife of Bend; two sons, L.B. of Bend and Robert of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, Letha Hodges of Mission Viejo, Calif., Carol Davis of La Pine and Patty Surig of Arizona; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Randall Jay York
Sept. 6, 1959 - July 27, 2004
Randall Jay York of Bend died Tuesday of natural causes. He was 44.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, July 30, at Deschutes Memorial Gardens Chapel in Bend.
Mr. York was born Sept. 6, 1959, in Portland to Ronald and Shirley (Stith) York. He attended Bothell High School in Bothell, Wash., and was student body president for the class of 1978. He later attended Central Washington State University.
Mr. York was a painting contractor in Beaverton.
He enjoyed skiing, sports and cats. Mr. York was resident ski instructor and director of Ski School at Ski Acres in Snoqualmie Pass, Wash.
Survivors include his parents of Bend; a brother, Rod York of Bend; and a sister, Robin Groom of Bend.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Roger Allen Pickett
April 7, 1926 - July 25, 2004
Roger Allen Pickett of Bend died Sunday of natural causes. He was 78.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, July 30, at Pilot Butte cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 5, at Discovery Christian Church in Bend.
Mr. Pickett was born April 7, 1926, in North Vernon, Ind., to Maurice and Wilma Pennington. He married
Barbara Hansson Pickett on April 10, 1994, in Tucson, Ariz.
Mr. Pickett worked as a certified public accountant and served in the Navy during World War II. He later worked as the general manager of Green Valley Water Co. until his retirement in 1992. His interests included fishing, reading and woodworking. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge and served as treasurer for C.M.F.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Michael Hopper of Indianapolis; Pastor Rodney Hopper of Rock Port, Mo., and Philip Tinsley of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Pamela Arlington of Avon, Ind., and Cheryl Sandoval of Dallas; a sister, Mary Miles of Brownston, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son.

Doris Parks Brault
June 5, 1917 - July 22, 2004
Doris Parks Brault of Prineville died July 22. She was 87. No services are planned.
Mrs. Brault was born June 5, 1917, in Plattsburgh, N.Y. She attended St. Peters High School in Plattsburg and married
Lucien Brault in 1934.
Mrs. Brault worked at the George Little Press in Burlington, Vermont, before relocating to Glen Falls, N.Y., where she worked for the Glenn Falls Paper Box Co. until her retirement. She moved to Prineville in 2001.
She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and golf. Mrs. Brault was also a concert pianist.
Survivors include her two sons, Wayne of Prineville and Gary of Toutle, Wash.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Hazel Marie Whitehurst
Oct. 31, 1920 - July 26, 2004
Hazel Marie Whitehurst died Monday. She was 83.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 2, at Greenwood cemetery in Bend.
Mrs. Whitehurst was born Oct. 31, 1920, in Farmington, N.M., to Harry and Gertrude (Durnell) Clark. She graduated from Gallop High School.
She married
Nolan Whitehurst on April 30, 1940, in Albuquerque, N.M.
Mrs. Whitehurst worked for the telephone company and as a baker for Safeway. She was also a homemaker.
Her interests included sewing, flowers and spending time with her family. She also won many penmanship awards.
Survivors include her two sons, Nolan Jr. of Prineville and Larry of Newport; two daughters, Nadine Brown of Olympia, Wash., and Barbara Anderson of Seattle; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.

Isabelle Singhose
Oct. 25, 1914 - July 21, 2004
Isabelle Singhose of Alfalfa died July 21. She was 89.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, at Redmond Memorial cemetery.
Mrs. Singhose was born Oct. 25, 1914, in Seattle to John and Patranella (Kutchins) Daugert. She graduated from Clallam Bay High School in Washington. She married
William Singhose on June 2, 1934, in Seattle.
Mrs. Singhose engaged in diversified farm operation in Alfalfa.
She enjoyed gardening, reading, puzzles, antique bottle and decorative plate collecting.
Survivors include her three sons, James of Cottage Grove, Leonard of Wenatchee, Wash., and Wayne of Alfalfa; two daughters, Annabelle Lasalle of Carmichael, Calif., and Jessie Nelson of Homer, Alaska; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, brother and sister.

Mary F. Butcher
Feb. 14, 1928 - Aug. 17, 2004
Mary F. Butcher of La Pine died Tuesday of natural causes. She was 76.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 24, at Living Word Praise Center in La Pine.
Mrs. Butcher was born Feb. 14, 1928, in Greenup County, Ky., to Emory and Bertha (Boling) Scaggs.
In 1949, she married
Rush Butcher.
She was a homemaker and owned and operated a firewood business with her husband for 15 years. Mrs. Butcher enjoyed gardening, quilting and cutting firewood.
Survivors include her son, Jim Hicks of La Pine; two brothers, Roy Scaggs and Emory Scaggs Jr.; two sisters, Betty Jean and Nellie Newman; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters.

Judith 'Judy' E. Simkin

Judith "Judy" E. Simkin of Crescent died Tuesday of natural causes. She was 75.

Mrs. Simkin was born Feb. 2, 1929, in Portsmouth, N.H., to Fred and Hester (Haines) Loring. She married
Gene Simkin on Aug. 1, 1948, in Berwick, Maine.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed knitting, camping and fishing.
Survivors include her husband of Crescent; four daughters, Karen Bertram and Marilyn Colville, both of Crescent, Jacquelyn Gaudette of California and Robin Looper of Bellingham, Wash.; a brother, Winthrop Loring of Barrington, N.H.; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons.

Kim Slaybaugh-Rogers

Kim Slaybaugh-Rogers of Redmond died Sunday. She was 45.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 21, at Terrebonne Grange Hall.
Mrs. Slaybaugh-Rogers was born Dec. 17, 1958, in Whitefish, Mont., to Darrell and Carol Slaybaugh. She graduated from Beaverton High School.
She married
David Rogers in Reno, Nev., and worked as a waitress at Country Nook.
Her interests included outdoor activities and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband; her parents of La Pine; a son, Michael Baker of Redmond; a daughter, Chrisie Fabbrini of Terrebonne; a brother, Kipper Slaybaugh of Seattle; a sister, Karen Lockhart of Klamath Falls; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister.
