Merylin Aldon Walker
March 12, 1931 - Nov. 29, 2004

Merylin Aldon Walker of Bend died Monday. He was 72.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, at Deschutes Memorial Mausoleum 0Chapel. A graveside service will follow at Deschutes Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Walker was born March 12, 1931, in Bend, to Albert and Alice (Hepburn) Walker. He married Jacqueline Anderson on Sept. 13, 1958, at the First Lutheran Church in Bend.

Mr. Walker served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a mill worker for Brooks-Scanlon until his retirement.

He was a member of the Orion Greens Golf Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Eagles Lodge.

He enjoyed bowling, golf, fishing, hunting and carpentry.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; a son, Gary of Wasilla, Alaska; a daughter, Bonnie Southorn of Camas, Wash.; a brother, Clinton of Bend; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Bend-La Pine, 2075 NE Wyatt Court, Bend, OR 97701.

Kathryn L. Oxborrow
May 29, 1911 - Nov. 29, 2004

Kathryn L. Oxborrow of Bend died Monday. She was 93.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, at Idlewild cemetery in Hood River.

Mrs. Oxborrow was born May 29, 1911, in Portland, to Joseph and Clara (Wilson) Lybarger. She married Gerard W. Oxborrow on Aug. 13, 1935, in Hood River.

Mrs. Oxborrow was a member of the Crescent Community Club and the Gilchrist Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, collecting turtles and traveling.

She is survived by two sons, Michael of Milwaukie and Steven of Bend.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother and four sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Bend-La Pine, 2075 NE Wyatt Ct., Bend, OR 97701.

Margaret Jane Morrow
March 19, 1918 - Nov. 29, 2004

Margaret Jane Morrow of Madras died Monday of natural causes. She was 86.

A rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at Bel-Air Colonial Chapel in Madras. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Madras.

Mrs. Morrow was born March 19, 1918, in Holdenville, Okla., to Dean and Margie (Grimes) Mathis. She graduated from high school in Holdenville and received her teaching certificate from Oklahoma A&M; College (now Oklahoma State University) in 1940. She married Andrew J. Morrow on Sept. 1, 1948, in Redmond.

Mrs. Morrow worked as a school teacher for Jefferson County. She was active in study club and served as regional vice president for Cowbelles. She enjoyed reading and attending Shakespearean Festivals.

Survivors include her husband of Madras; two sons, Andrew of Portland and Dean of Salem; a brother, William Mathis of Cadmenton, Mo.; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain View Hospice.

Oral S. 'Slim' Heavilin
June 28, 1913 - Nov. 29, 2004

Oral S. "Slim" Heavilin of Ft. Rock died Monday of natural causes. He was 91.

A committal service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, at Ft. Rock cemetery. A potluck will follow at the Ft. Rock Grange Hall.

Mr. Heavilin was born June 28, 1913, in Klamath Falls, to George and Eva (Holland) Heavilin. He married Mary Burnett on Sept. 12, 1937, in Medford.

Mr. Heavilin served in the Army during World War II. He worked for Hercules Powder from 1956-1967.

He later owned and operated a cattle ranch. He was a member of the Cattlemen's Association and a Boy Scout leader.

He enjoyed traveling, visiting ghost towns, working on his ranch and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of Ft. Rock; two sons, Jack of Ft. Rock and Danny of Arcata, Calif.; one daughter, Dolores Freiberg of Springfield; two foster daughters, Colleen Titman of Spokane, Wash. and Ellen Swartz of Sparks, Nev.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers.

Willard 'Bill' Hertzberg Jr.
May 18, 1927 - Nov. 28, 2004

Willard "Bill" Hertzberg Jr. of Bend died Sunday of natural causes. He was 77.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., today, Dec. 3, at Deschutes Memorial Mausoleum Chapel.

Mr. Hertzberg was born May 18, 1927, in Chicago. He married Katherine Elizabeth Naslund on Nov. 19, 1948, in Niles Township, Ill.

Mr. Hertzberg served in the Navy during World War II. He worked as a contractor and a rancher. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was affiliated with The High Desert Museum and Habitat for Humanity. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, outdoor recreation, horses, collecting tractors and animals.

He is survived by a son, Kenneth of Yorba Linda, Calif.; a daughter, Gail Anderson of Riverside, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to the animal shelter of one's choosing.

Christine H. Engebritson
Feb. 2, 1928 - Nov. 26, 2004

Christine H. Engebritson of La Pine died Nov. 26 of natural causes. She was 76.

Christine H. Engebritson was born Feb. 2, 1928, in Hickman, Ky., to Alwyn and Lottie (McClendon) Johnson. She married George Engebritson on July 5, 1949, in Stevenson, Wash.

Mrs. Engebritson was a homemaker. She was a member of the La Pine Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by a son, Mike of Boise, Idaho and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a son.

Mary Alice 'Peggy' Frier
April 21, 1922 - Dec. 1, 2004

Mary Alice "Peggy" Frier of Terrebonne died Wednesday of natural causes. She was 82.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, at Niswonger-Reynolds Funeral Home of Redmond.

Mrs. Frier was born April 21, 1922, in Melstone, Mont., to Eugene and Inice (Hourigan) Pegg. She graduate from Custer High School in Custer, Mont.

She married Frank Frier on Feb. 15, 1958, in Bend.

Mrs. Frier worked as a meat wrapper for Erickson's Market in Bend.

She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, taking drives and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband of Terrebonne; two sons, Dennis of Madras and Michael of Redmond; three daughters, Marva Kalinoski of Gresham, Judy Teply of Champion, Neb. and Sandra Frier of Eugene; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Peter Paul Bernstein
July 5, 1968 - Nov. 30, 2004

Peter Paul Bernstein of Bend died Tuesday of natural causes. He was 36.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Real Life Christian Church, 2880 NE 27th St., Bend.

Mr. Bernstein was born July 5, 1968, in Yonkers, N.Y., to Manny and Sandy (Lyon) Bernstein.

He married Jennifer Perry on Nov. 26, 1994, in Santa Clara, Calif.

Mr. Bernstein worked as an assistant produce manager. He was a member of the Real Life Christian Church.

He enjoyed Tom Hanks movies, church, barbecues and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife; his parents; four sons, Ian, Drue, Joshua Inman and Christopher Shatzel, all of Bend; a daughter, Candice Inman of Bend; two brothers, Michael Bernstein and Joe Lyon; and four sisters, Laura Shatzel of Bend, Christina Layton, Susan Bernstein and Carol Holt.

Raymond Edward 'Ray' Denton
April 27, 1916 - Nov. 30, 2004

Raymond Edward "Ray" Denton of Prineville died Tuesday of natural causes. He was 88.

A visitation will be held from noon until 8 p.m., today, Dec. 3, at Prineville Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 6, at Prineville First Baptist Church.

Mr. Denton was born April 27, 1916, in Wilsal, Mont., to Chester and May (Withnel) Denton. He graduated from the Dalles High School in 1934. He married Hazel Smith on Dec. 25, 1937, in The Dalles.

Mr. Denton owned Ray Denton's Insurance and Real Estate of Prineville, until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Crook County Historical Society. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, woodworking and golfing.

Survivors include his wife of Prineville; a son, Dennis of Prineville; a daughter, Shirley Barquist of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; a brother, Clyde of Seattle; a sister, Edith Lager of Seattle; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and a son.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, the Crook County Historical Society or Pioneer Memorial Hospice.
