Kory Powell
April 4, 1991 - Oct. 8, 2004

Kory Powell of Springfield died Oct. 8 in an automobile accident. He was 13.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Briggs Middle School in Springfield.

Kory was born April 4, 1991, in Klamath Falls, to James K. and Lyla Powell. He lived in Chemult before moving to Springfield. He was an eighth-grade student at Briggs Middle School in Springfield. Kory enjoyed hunting, fishing, skateboarding, BMX bikes, girls and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his parents, James K. of Springfield and Lyla of Myrtle Creek; three sisters, Desin Kohler of Bend, Kimberlee Powell of Springfield and Kali Schuster of Myrtle Creek; and four grandparents.

He was preceded in death by two grandparents.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kory J. Powell Memorial Trust Fund at any Bank of America Branch.

Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.

Wilburn Joe Majors
Feb. 4, 1940 - April 18, 2003

Wilburn Joe Majors of Mt. Angel died Friday. He was 63.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. April 25 at Unger Funeral Chapel in Silverton.

Mr. Majors was born Feb. 4, 1940, in Little Rock, Ark., to Blount and Betty (Levine) Majors. He lived in Bend from 1971 to 2000.

He was a truck driver for a concrete company.

Mr. Majors enjoyed his family, building models and camping.

Survivors include his three sons, Tim of Portland, Jeffrey of Salem and Michael of Grand Cayman Islands; four daughters, Barbara, Lisa and Marcia Follett all of Salem and Melony of Eugene; a brother, Fred of Wilmington, N.C.; and 13 grandchildren.

Unger Funeral Chapel in Silverton is in charge of arrangements.

Dick Jackson
August 31, 1936 - July 5, 2002

Dick Jackson of Bend died July 5 after a long illness. He was 65.

A service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Jackson was born Aug. 31, 1936, in Belfast, Maine. He married Molly McDougall in 1969 in Palo Alto, Calif.

He graduated from the University of Nevada in Reno. In 1977 he moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, and worked in forestry. He became the Director of Health and Safety and later Administrative Director of the Fairbanks North Star Borough. He moved to Bend in 1988 and worked as a consultant for an Alaskan company that provided assistance and training for disaster management, oil spill prevention and cleanup operations.

Mr. Jackson was affiliated with the Bend Library and Friends of Bend.

He enjoyed bicycling, sailing, golf and people.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; and one son, Guy of Bend.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dialysis Unit of St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.

Robert Bob Allen Brooks
Aug. 17, 1928 - July 10, 2002

Robert Bob Allen Brooks of Redmond died Wednesday of natural causes. He was 73.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dayspring Christian Center in Terrebonne. The Rev. Travis Campbell will officiate.

Mr. Brooks was born Aug. 17, 1928, in Gloversville, N.Y., to Ralph and Ethel (Waltz) Brooks. He married Juanita on July 15, 1951, in San Jose, Calif.

He served in the Army from 1947 to 1950 in the South Pacific. He played basketball for the Army on a championship team.

Mr. Brooks worked at IBM in San Jose, Calif., as a procurement agent. He retired after 27 years. He moved to Terrebonne where he operated an alfalfa ranch and retired for the second time 19 years later.

He was one of the founders and chief of the Loma Prieta Civil Defense Fire Team in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California. He was also coach and manager for his sons little league team.

Mr. Brooks was affiliated with the Redmond Moose Lodge and the Red Rocks Square Dance Group.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, farm equipment and helping his neighbors.

Survivors include his wife of Redmond; one son, James of San Jose, Calif.; one daughter, Deborah Decker of Redmond; one brother, Richard of Wisconsin; two sisters, Lois Ward of Idaho and Jean Nelson of California; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Bend Memorial Clinic Foundation for Cancer, P.O. Box 5274, Bend 97708, or Central Oregon Hospice, 2698 NE Courtney Drive Suite 101, Bend 97701.

Ralph Edward Magness
Nov. 8, 1922 - July 9, 2002

Ralph Edward Magness of Bend died Tuesday of natural causes. He was 79.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the family residence.

Mr. Magness was born Nov. 8, 1922, in Birmingham, Ala. He moved to Portland in 1937. He married Veronica Frost on Aug. 17, 1947, in Portland.

He served in the Army in the 2nd Engineer Special Brigade from 1943 to 1945.

Mr. Magness was a Portland police officer for 31 years.

He was affiliated with the Oregon Maritime Center and Museum.

Mr. Magness enjoyed time with his family and traveling.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; two sons, Scott of Bend and Kevin of Banks; one daughter, Kathleen Campbell of Portland; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Bend-La Pine.

R. Keith Clark
Oct. 21, 1925 - July 5, 2002

R. Keith Clark of Redmond died July 5 of natural causes. He was 76.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. July 21 at the VFW Hall in Redmond.

Mr. Clark was born Oct. 21, 1925, in Bend to Roland Butch and Rae (Knickerbocker) Clark. He graduated from Bend High School in 1944 and married Donna Werner on Aug. 24, 1946, in Bend.

He served in the Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart.

Mr. Clark graduated from Monmouth College in 1949 and began a teaching career that lasted 34 years.

He taught in Coos Bay, at Terrebonne Grade School, Redmond Union High School and Central Oregon Community College.

He co-authored The Terrible Trail and wrote The History of Redmond and other books.

Mr. Clark was affiliated with the school board in Redmond and the Deschutes County Historical Society.

He enjoyed the outdoors, the desert, gardening, heritage, history and his family.

Survivors include his wife of Redmond; one son, Matthew of Redmond; three daughters, Marcia McKitrick of Aurora, Terrie Jahn of Prineville and Valerie Henry of Redmond; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Redmond, Sisters&Grant; County, 732 SW 23rd, Redmond 97756.

Caroline N. Dana
Nov. 5, 1916 - July 11, 2002

Caroline Dana of Bend died July 11 of natural causes. She was 85.

No service will be held.

Ms. Dana was born on Nov. 5, 1916, in Hilo, Hawaii.

She was a homemaker who loved crocheting, making things for her family and caring for her children. She moved to Bend from Waianae, Hawaii, in January 2002 to be near her daughter.

Survivors include three daughters, Vivian Kofford of Bend, Caroline Salinas of Waianae, Hawaii, and Mary Jo Fierro of Hopkins, S.C.; two sons, Thomas Rude of Mililani, Hawaii, and Wesley Rude of Waipanu, Hawaii; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Niswonger, Reynolds and Tabor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
