Charles 'Chuck' Christen Reedy
Jan. 19, 1935 - April 1, 2002

Charles 'Chuck' Christen Reedy of Redmond died Monday of esophageal cancer. He was 67.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. April 13 at Zion Lutheran Church in Redmond.

Mr. Reedy was born Jan. 19, 1935, in Los Angeles to Christen and Lillian Reedy.

He attended the University of California at Los Angeles and Glendale Community College. He married Lee.

He worked in the computer industry for U.S. Borax Corporation for more than 20 years in Los Angeles.

He retired and moved to Redmond in 1998.

Mr. Reedy was a member of The Greens, Juniper Golf Club, Central Oregon Shrine Club and Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J., USA.

He was an avid golfer.

Survivors include his two sons, Phillip and Christen, both of Willets, Calif.; two daughters, Janice of Montrose, Calif., and Cindy Reedy-Powell of La Cresenta, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Laurie Chadwick of Redmond; mother of Glendale, Calif.; a sister, Dorathea Wyatt of Oregon; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife and father.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Redmond.

Autumn Funerals is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph 'JD' Densel Dryer
Feb. 16, 1922 - April 4, 2002

Joseph ”JD” Densel Dryer of Bend died Thursday of natural causes. He was 80.

A service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Dryer was born Feb. 16, 1922, in Urbana, Mo., to Lloyd and Bonnie Dryer.

He worked in the Youth Conservation Corps and built roads in Utah. He married Juanita Mills in 1947.

He served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 9, 1942 to Nov. 13, 1945 during World War II.

He served as a motorboat operator, cannoneer and carpenter.

He also led ships through the Panama Canal.

Mr. Dryer worked in a battery factory.

He then worked as a saw filer in the lumber industry. He also built three houses in Oakridge.

He married Viola (Horner) Dean in June 1993, in Reno, Nev.

He enjoyed playing Pinochle, Cribbage, Dominoes and Scrabble.

He also enjoyed western music and movies, especially movies starring John Wayne.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; two daughters, Anita Evens of Klamath Falls and Beth Kissinger of Kelso, Wash.; two stepsons, Robert Dean of Bend and Gary Dean of Oakridge; two stepdaughters, Loreta Randall of Bend and Mary Lyda of Cottage Grove; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife.

Laverne (Dehne) Schnick
Aug. 29, 1918 - March 31, 2002

Laverne (Dehne) Schnick of Prineville died Sunday of natural causes. She was 83.

She was born Aug. 29, 1918, in Fort Rock.

She married Marion Schnick on Dec. 10, 1947, in Reno, Nev.

Catherine Veloris (Smith) Courtney
March 30, 1912 - April 4, 2002

Catherine Veloris (Smith) Courtney of Warm Springs died Thursday of natural causes at Hi Lookie Assisted Living Center. She was 90.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Hi Lookie Assisted Living Center in Warm Springs.

Mrs. Courtney was born March 30, 1912, in Warm Springs to Wesley and Annie (Jackson) Smith.

She married Terrance Courtney Sr. on April 9, 1934, in Warm Springs.

She worked as a fire lookout for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Mrs. Courtney was a member of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs and the oldest Wasco Tribal member residing on the reservation.

Survivors include her husband of Warm Springs; seven children, Terry, Pete, Mavis Shaw, Bernice and Pinky Beymer, all five of Warm Springs, Gloria Keene of Otterrock and Pat Gold of Scappoose; two brother, Claude Smith and Alvis Smith, both of Warm Springs; two sisters, Zelma Smith of Warm Springs and Myrtle Monroe of Browning, Mont.; 21 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Bel-Air Colonial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Fern Laura (Green) Lovely
Dec. 17, 1920 - April 3, 2002

Fern Laura (Green) Lovely of Gilchrist died Wednesday of natural causes. She was 81.

A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday at Deschutes Memorial Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Deschutes Memorial Mausoleum Chapel.

Mrs. Lovely was born Dec. 17, 1920, in Fort Fairfield, Maine.

She married Adrien Lovely Sr. in 1938, in Stafford Springs, Conn.

She co-owned and operated a grocery and hardware store with her husband in Michigan.

She moved to Central Oregon in 1971.

She then co-owned and operated Timbers Tavern in Gilchrist with her husband.

Mrs. Lovely was affiliated with the La Pine Holy Redeamer Catholic Church.

She enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, music, the outdoors and fishing.

Survivors include her husband of Gilchrist; a son, Adrien Jr. of Oregon; a daughter, Lee Manning of Bellville, Mich.; two sisters, Debra Gognan of Fort Fairfield, Maine, and Ann Murphy of Caribou, Maine; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to Central Oregon Hospice.

Deschutes Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Emil P. Evensen
Feb. 4, 1940 - April 5, 2002

Emil P. Evensen of Bend died Friday at his home. He was 62.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hollingshead Barn.

Mr. Evensen's complete obituary will run at a later date.

Stanley Rodier
Nov. 8, 1941 - April 3, 2002

Stanley Rodier of Sunriver died Wednesday of natural causes. He was 60.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Village Retirement Center in Gresham.

A second memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Sunriver Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Mr. Rodier was born Nov. 8, 1941, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, to James and Emma Rodier.

He married Lauris Larsen in 1970 in Portland.

He served as a SP4 in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on April 14, 1966.

Mr. Rodier worked as an administrator at Portland Community College for more than 20 years.

He lived in Sunriver for six years.

He was a member of the High Desert Region of the Porsche Club of America. He enjoyed cars, golfing, fishing, good food and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of Sunriver; his mother of Gresham; and a sister, Meldra Driscoll of Washougal, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his father.

James Russell Looman
May 11, 1916 - April 5, 2002

James Russell Looman of Bend died Friday of natural causes. He was 85.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church in Bend.

Mr. Looman was born May 11, 1916, in Chester, W.V. He graduated from Brewmaster School in Chicago.

He then received his engineering degree in Illinois. He married Betty Parsons.

He worked as an aeronautical engineer for Lockheed Aircraft Corp. He married Mary Louise Finley.

He retired in 1981. He moved to the Bend area in 1990. He married Lora Burnett on April 29, 1995, in Bend.

Mr. Looman enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, tinkering, woodworking and going to church.

Survivors include his wife of Bend; a stepson, Jeff Britain of Wood River; two daughters, Patricia Hovland of Reno, Nev., and Nancy Wolf of La Pine; a stepdaughter, Jane Attwood of Aberdeen, Wash.; a brother, John Thomas of Columbiana, Ohio; a sister, Myrtle Jellison of Lancaster, Calif.; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his first and second wives, a brother and sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Bend or a charity of one's choice.
