Ray
Robert James Ray, 65, of Vancouver, Wash., formerly of Oregon, died Sept. 24, 2002.
Born Oct. 12, 1936, in Prairie City, he was a truck driver. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1962, and in the National Guard. He lived in Oregon before moving to Vancouver six years ago.
His interests included fishing, boating, hunting and CB radios.
He married Beatrice in October of 1977.
Survivors include his mother, Rita Yoder of Hubbard; daughter, Cindy Davis; stepdaughter, Kathy Gabrielson of Salem; sons, Kenneth and James, both of Vancouver, Dale of Lincoln City; stepsons, Michael Strauss of Portland and Richard Strauss of Salem; and sister, Arleta Johnson of Salinas, Calif.
Graveside services will begin at 3 p.m. Oct. 3 in Willamette National cemetery, Portland.
Arrangements are by Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, Vancouver, Wash.

Gerlt
Lorene M. Gerlt, 87, of Woodburn died Sept. 25, 2002.
Born March 29, in 1915, she lived in Kansas before moving to Oregon in 1947. She moved to the Woodburn Senior Estates in 1984. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
She married Lloyd H. Gerlt in 1932; he died in February.
Survivors include her daughter, Patty Pillmeier; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Oct. 4 in the United Methodist Church, Woodburn.
Arrangements by Howell-Edwards-Doerkson with Rigdom Ransom, Salem.
Contributions may be made to Woodburn United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

Velasquez
Julio Jaquez Velasquez, 63, of Woodburn died Sept. 28, 2002.
Born June 18, 1939, in Mexico, he worked at the frozen food plant until it closed. He lived in Las Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico in 1995.
He married Onelda Chaives in 1963.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Lourdes Guzman and Brijida Del Rio, both of Woodburn; sons, Juvenal, Eloy and Noe Jaquez, all of Mexico, Fausto Jaquez of Woodburn and Julio Cesar Jaquez of Wilsonville; sisters, Maria, Rafiela and Elpidia Jaquez Velasquez, all of Mexico; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Oct. 3 in St. Luke Catholic Church, Woodburn.
Arrangements are by Cornwell Colonial Chapel, Woodburn.

Gasser
Vera M. Gasser, 85, of Woodburn died Jan. 3, 2003.
Born May 8, 1917 in Clintonville, Wis., she lived the first part of her life in Shawano County, Wis.
She married Raymond G. Gasser on July 12, 1941, in Mattoon, Wis. The family moved to Cloverdale in July 1952. They settled in the Woodburn area in the mid-1970s. They lived in Woodburn the last 21 years. She was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Womens Missionary League.
She is survived by her husband; daughter, Sharon of Coos Bay; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as a brother and sister.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 8 at Hope Lutheran Church, Woodburn.
Contributions may be made to the Mid-Willamette Hospice or the charity of your choice.
Arrangements by Simon-Woodburn Funeral Chapel, Woodburn.

Pantle
Mabel H. Pantle, 93, of Woodburn died Jan. 3, 2003.
Born Sept. 20, 1909 in Saratoga, Wyo., she would later marry Floyd Pantle on Nov. 8, 1929 in Fort Collins, Colo.
They made their home in Monitor where they farmed. She also worked at Birdseye for seven years and taught school for one year.
She was a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting, dancing and annual trips to Wyoming.
She was a member of the Rebekahs and the Friendly Club in Monitor. Her husband preceded her in death in November 1995.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Jan. 7 at Cornwell Colonial Chapel. Private entombment was at Portland Memorial Mausoleum.
Arrangements by Cornwell Colonial Chapel, Woodburn.

Stone
WOODBURN -- Doris Bernice Stone, 79, of Woodburn died Dec. 21, 2002.
Born Aug. 30, in 1923, she served in the U.S. Navy Waves during World War II. She lived in Vancouver, Wash., before moving to Woodburn in 1993.
She married Thomas J. Stone Aug. 19, 1950, in Everett, Wash.
Survivors include her husband; son, Leonard of Bremerton, Wash.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements were by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, Salem.

Brown
WOODBURN -- Glenn Lowery Brown, 89, of Woodburn died Dec. 31, 2002.
Born March 21, 1913, in Stayton, he worked as a cabinet maker. He also designed patterns for wood manufacturing operations. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He moved to Woodburn in 1960. He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 2637, VFW and the New Era Church in Canby.
His interests included woodcarving and giving carving lessons.
He married Drusilla Brown Aug. 6, 1997, in Canby.
Survivors include his wife; and stepson, Larry Philbrick.
At his request, no services will be held.
Arrangements were by Simon-Woodburn Funeral Chapel.

Williams
WOODBURN -- Floyd Earl Williams, 78, of Woodburn died Dec. 29, 2002.
Born Oct. 5, 1924, in Evansville, Ind., he was a security officer for Wells Fargo and a Los Angeles gas company. He attended trade school in business management. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Wesleyan Church.
He married Ruby Rose May 11, 1982, in Huntington Park, Calif.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Dale Bowman of Los Angeles, Paul Williams of Florida, Max Williams of Indiana, Dick Bowman of Oregon; several children; and several great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 3 in Simon-Woodburn Funeral Chapel, Woodburn.
Arrangements were by Simon-Woodburn Funeral Chapel.

Butterfield
Jessie S. Butterfield, 90, of Mercer Island, Wash., formerly of Woodburn, died Dec. 20, 2002.
Born June 5, 1912, in Woodburn, she graduated from Woodburn High School in 1931. She also attended Oregon State University. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood Chapter F in Woodburn and Chapter FH, Washington, Eastern Star, Priscilla Chapter No. 96, Washington.
She married Neal A. Butterfield Jan. 26, 1935, in New Brunswick, N.J.
Survivors include her son, Allen Neal Butterfield of Christiansburg, Va.; and daughters, Annie May Smight of Renton, Wash., and Florence Bergum of Mercer Island, Wash.
Services will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements are by Green Funeral Home, Bellevue, Wash.
Contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
