A joint memorial/funeral is scheduled for Thursday, July 2, at 1 p.m. at Idlewilde cemetery in Hood River, Ore., for four former Hood River residents from the same family:
Dorothy Elizabeth Orr (Mrs. Ivan Orr) died shortly after midnight on the morning of Jan. 1, 2009. She was born to William Frances and Clarisee Moore Nov. 30, 1909, in Pine Island, Minn. She was raised by her grandparents after her mother died when Dorothy was 7.
She married
Ivan Lyle Orr on Oct. 31, 1927, in Gardner, Iowa. They had three children: Betty, Shirley and Bud. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Robinson, and son-in-law, Bill, of The Dalles, Ore., and three granddaughters: Linda Forton and her husband, Robert, of Oceanside, Calif., Sue Borton and her husband, Alan, of The Dalles, Ore., and Dottie Ruoss and her husband, Bill, and his family, of Georgia; and one grandson, Michael Orr, of California.
Her great-grandchildren are Naomi and her husband, Omega Spells; Cami and her husband, Andrew Mason; Richard Forton, of California; Michael Scotty Orr, Nichole Orr, Branden and Paula Zeller, Jennifer and Daniel Wollam, Jodie and Noe Zaragoza, and Christie Borton, of The Dalles; Jennifer Borton, of Hood River, Michael McDonald, of Tualatin, Mahlcolm, of The Dalles, Clarisee and her husband, Adam, of Georgia, and Cindy and her finance, John, of Florida.
Also surviving are 14 great-great-grandchildren: Leilani Forton, Natalie, Ivy and Kyndra Wollam, Noe, Gavin and Maria Zaragoza, Taylor Couch, Abigail and Marley Porritt and Samantha and Elizabeth McDonald, and Nicole's son. She is also survived by her nephews Pat Moore and his wife, Ellie, of Utah, Mike of North Carolina and Terry and his wife, Terry, of Reno; and her niece, Jody, of Alaska, and their children and grandchildren. She would have been 100 years old on her next birthday.
Ivan Cedric William Orr (Buddy) was born Sept. 13, 1931, in Ortonville, Minn. He passed away Oct. 7, 2006, in Oceanside, Calif., where he resided.
He retired from the U.S. Navy Aug. 30, 1974, after 24 years' service. He married
Matsu June 1, 1956, and they had two children, Linda and Michael. He also had a daughter, Diane.
He is survived by his wife, Matsu, daughter Linda Forton and family and son Michael Orr and family, as well as sister Shirley Robinson and family same as listed above.
Betty Jane Orr Moran was born Jan. 19, 1929, in Ortonville, Minn. Her life's joy was taking care of her family. She died Nov. 13, 2007, in Georgia at the home of her daughter, Dottie Ruoss. She is survived by her daughter, Dottie, and family as well as sister, Shirley Robinson and family as listed above.
Del Robinson was born April 6, 1952, in Hood River, Ore., to Bill and Shirley Robinson. He passed away on March 24, 2009, in San Francisco, Calif. He was the grandson of Dorothy and Ivan Orr of Hood River.
He is survived by his parents, Bill and Shirley Robinson, of The Dalles; sister, Sue Borton and family (listed above), also of The Dalles; his Aunt Helen and Uncle Carl and family, of Vandalia, Mo., Uncle Vernon and cousin, Deb, of Vandalia, Mo., as well as numerous cousins in Missouri.
Several years ago, he changed his name to Dylan, but former friends from Hood River will remember him as Del.
They are all greatly missed!

Edward Clarke
Edward Hugh Clarke was born on Nov. 16, 1919, and was raised on a farm in Clinton County, Iowa, and attended school in Elwood, Iowa. He was one of four children: John, Marion, Ed and Lois.
He worked his way through college while attending Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry in 1942. From 1942 to 1945 he was a naval aviator in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and specifically was an instrumentation instructor.
He met Theola Mortvedt in 1941 in Ames, Iowa, and they were married
on April 1, 1944, and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2009. While stationed at the Melbourne Naval Air Station in Florida, their first daughter, Pamela Dee, was born in September 1945.
He continued his graduate studies at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and graduated with a master's degree in 1948 from Syracuse University in New York. While in Arkansas, their second daughter, Margaret Ann, was born in January 1947.
He taught forestry at Tennessee University in Knoxville prior to joining the U.S. Forest Service in Madison, Wis., in 1950. From there he served more than five years in Portland, Ore., followed by 10 years in Washington, D.C.
Before accepting other work transfers, he held out for another position in the Pacific Northwest and moved back to Portland in 1971. He retired in 1980, but enjoyed meeting his work associates for coffee and attending events with the 30-Year Forestry group.
He and his wife, Tee, served as escorts in the Odyssey Travel Club and were able to travel extensively around the world and throughout America. Besides travel, he enjoyed camping, fishing, reading, golf, his small woodworking shop, and was an avid TV sports fan and news junkie. He had a strong religious faith and was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church in Tigard, Ore.
He is survived by his wife, Tee, and daughters Pamela C. Simpson, of Annandale, Va., and Margaret C. Jacobson, of Trout Lake, Wash.; as well as two sons-in-law, Andrew Jacobson and George Baroniak.
He also leaves three grandchildren: Danielle Bourdo (and husband Mark), of Fenton, Mich., Dane Jacobson, of Trout Lake, Wash., and Darrin Jacobson (and wife Amanda), of Acton, Calif.; and eight great-grandchildren: Calvin, Dane and Aidan Bourdo, Ty and KayLeigh Jacobson and Chase, Andrew, and Nathan Jacobson.
His favorite expression was 'wood is good' and plastic toothpicks were verboten. His favorite color was orange. It was hard to separate him from his little dog, Molly, who was constantly at his side.
He died of natural causes on June 20, 2009, at his home in Hood River, Ore. Two Celebration of Life services are arranged. The first is scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, at 1:30 pm at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Tigard, Ore., which will include the military presence, and the second on Friday, June 26, at 10:30 a.m. at Hawks Ridge Assisted Living in Hood River, Ore., where he resided.

Muriel Braxton
Helen Muriel Braxton began life in Monroe, Ore., on Nov. 5, 1925. On June 22, 2009, after 83 years, she began her eternal life with her Lord and Savior leaving Portland, Ore., after battling Parkinson's disease with grace, humor and quiet determination.
The daughter of Harold Robert Moore and Eleanor Francis Church, Muriel married
Herman Braxton on Dec. 3, 1962.
Muriel grew up in Hood River, Ore. She enjoyed the outdoors and the beauty of nature. She and Herman moved to McMinnville, Ore., in 1972 and opened Braxton's, a clothing store that they owned for more than two decades.
Muriel's family was her pride and joy. She was the best wife, mother and grandma anyone could ask for. She was loving, patient, creative and encouraging. Her Christian faith and humor inspired us all.
Muriel was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, and her brother Bob. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Braxton; her son-in-law, Blake Sakamoto; grandchildren Zach and Jaiden; sister, Jane Livingston; and brother, Bill Moore.
Public viewing is Sunday, June 28, from noon to 4 p.m. at Chapel of Macy and Son, 135 N.E. Evans St., McMinnville, OR 97128.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 30, at 11 a.m. at Chapel of Macy and Son with Rev. Jim Peterson officiating.
Private interment will be at Willamette National cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Parkinson's Resources of Oregon, 3975 Mercantile Drive, Ste. 154, Lake Oswego, OR 97035.
Charles Hooper
Charles Ransom Hooper, of Richland, Wash., died at home on Friday evening, June 26, 2009, with his family and hospice caring for him. After his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in January, he enjoyed about four months of tennis with friends at the Court Club and many visits from family and friends.
Charles was born June 22, 1930, in Des Moines, Iowa, to parents Charles Hooper and Gertrude Burnett Hooper. At age 18, his family moved to Long Beach, Calif., where he graduated from Cal State Long Beach.
After teaching for two years in California, he wandered to France and taught on the American base at Etain. In 1958 he met and married
Beverlee DeBode, and then they moved to an Air Force base in England, where they worked in the overseas schools.
After 20 years in Europe, Charles and family moved back to the U.S. and settled in Husum, Wash., where they planted a vineyard and established the Charles Hooper Family Winery. He retired and moved to Richland 12 years ago.
Charles is survived by his wife, Beverlee; daughter Jan Bostian and son-in-law Paul, of Spokane, Wash.; son Chris Hooper and daughter-in-law Aymee, of White Salmon, Wash.; and daughter Kim Cutsforth and son-in-law Jerry, of Richland, Wash.
He is also survived by and was very proud of his grandchildren, Zachary and Rachel Frazier, Ryan Cutsforth and his wife, Erika, and Desi and Charlie Hooper.
The family appreciates the sensitive and efficient care of Cleo, Amy, Kirk and staff of Hospice at the Chaplaincy in Kennewick. We also appreciate the kindness of his fellow tennis players who made him feel welcome to play as long as he was able.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Hospice at the Chaplaincy would be appreciated. Charles requested cremation. Please visit Einan's Web site to express thoughts. The family will be at home on July 18 between 1 and 4 p.m. for friends who wish to share memories and stories about Charles.
Alice Galloway
Alice Sophia Fisher Galloway of Hood River, Ore., died Dec. 3, 2006, at Parkhurst Care Center.
Alice was born Jan. 1, 1911, in Colton, Calif., to Albert Bertram Fisher and Polly (Osborne) Fisher.
She married
Wayne Kenneth Galloway from Satanta, Kansas, May 28, 1943. After his tour of active duty in World War II as a transport pilot, they moved to Klamath Falls, Ore.
Alice was active for many years in the Klamath Falls Cub and Boy Scout programs and Camp Fire Girls program. She received the scouting Silver Fawn award for her work with scouting. She was the president of the Oregon State University Mothers Club in 1974-75 and active until 1979.
In 1985 the family moved to Hood River, Ore. Until recently she enjoyed square dancing and participating in activities at the Hood River Senior Center.
Her husband preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons Kenneth Galloway and his wife, Judy, of Hood River, and Charles Galloway and his wife, Mikell, of Boise, Idaho. She had seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A private funeral service for family and close friends will be held and she will be interred beside her husband at Willamette National cemetery. Harvey Christensen
Harvey Clyde Christensen, 82, a Hood River, Ore., resident, died Dec. 4, 2006, at the Hood River Care Center.
Harvey was born Jan. 27, 1924, in Oshkosh, Wis., to Harvey and Esther (Troughett) Christensen. He was raised and educated in Wisconsin, moving to California at the age of 24. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946.
Harvey lived in Seattle, Wash., for more than 20 years, where he worked as a finish carpenter. He came to Hood River in 1994. He was a member of the Retired Carpenters and the American Legion Post 112 in Seattle. He enjoyed going out on his boat, crabbing and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Christensen of Hood River; son Harvey Clyde Christensen of Stockton, Calif.; sisters Marian Wasser of Wisconsin and Vivian Belsky of Arizona; granddaughter Susan Santoyo and her husband, German; grandson Mike Robertson and his wife, Nicole; great-grandchildren Rebecca and Tyler Santoyo; and many cousins.

Elvera 'Vera' Embree
Vera Embree, age 75, died Dec. 1, 2006, at her Odell, Ore., residence.
Services will be held on Friday, Dec. 8, at 1 p.m. at Anderson's Tribute Center.
Vera was born Aug. 6, 1931, in Green Ridge, Mo., to Norvel and Erna (Campbell) Embree. She attended grade school in Green Ridge, Mo., and then moved to Windsor, Mo., where she attended high school.
She moved to Twentynine Palms, Calif., where she managed a jewelry store. She was a pearl appraiser and hearing aid specialist. She then moved to Las Vegas, Nev., for approximately four years.
In 1981 Vera wanted to be closer to her family, and made the decision to move to Hood River, Ore. She worked until her retirement for the State of Oregon Social Service Department in Hood River.
Vera enjoyed painting, fishing, cooking, reading and her little trips to the casino where she always won. She was a loving daughter, sister and friend. Although God did not bestow Vera with children she was a mother to every child she met, and to her family.
Vera is survived by her sister, Mary Jo Reynolds of Clinton, Mo.; brothers Ron Embree of Hood River and Don Embree and his wife, Marsha, of Vancouver, Wash.; nephews Jackie and Vance Reynolds and Alan Embree; and nieces Tina Embree, Tabby Bussey and Macie Reynolds. Numerous cousins also survive.
Private interment will be at the Upper Valley cemetery in Parkdale, Ore.

Ray Parsons
Ray Parsons, age 64, died Dec. 3, 2006, at his Hood River, Ore., residence.
Services will be held on Friday, Dec. 8, at 1 p.m. at Anderson's Tribute Center. Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 7, from 4-6 p.m. at Anderson's Tribute Center.
Ray was born Jan. 2, 1942, in Holmesville, Ohio, to Forest and Esther (Crawford) Parsons. He then served in the U.S. Army. He moved to Hood River in 1970.
On Dec. 24, 1971, he and Jean Dunn were married
in White Salmon, Wash. Ray worked for SDS Lumber for 16 years and then for six years for Stadelman Fruit. He enjoyed playing guitar and working on cars.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Maxine, and wife, Jean.
He is survived by his son, Roger Parsons of Killbuck, Ohio; daughter Lisa Parsons, of Klickitat, Wash.; three stepchildren, Scott, Tammy and Kelly Lindsey; three sisters, Fay Leckrone (his twin sister) of Wooster, Ohio; Marie Luft of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and Mona Fortune of Shreve, Ohio; four brothers, Charles 'Bud' Parsons and his wife, Helen, of Mosier, Ore., LeLand Parsons and his wife, Kathy, of Revenna, Ohio, and Larry Parsons and his wife, Mildred, of Cardington, Ohio. Twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Private interment will be at Pine Grove cemetery.
