Norman "Gene" Borger
1919-2004
Norman "Gene" Borger, 84, of Cottage Grove died from age-related causes July 28.
He was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Fresno, Calif., to Alexander and Anna Borger.
He married Lillian Miller March 20, 1943, in Fresno, Calif.
He was in the 11th Army Horse Calvary and in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II.
He was part of a family partnership in A Diel Grocery in Fresnos Old Russian Town. He later owned and operated a liquor store.
He lived most of his life in Fresno, Calif., before moving to Cottage Grove 10 years ago.
He enjoyed old cars, restoring a 1937 Chevy, loved to fish and was renowned for his German sausage, which was a family tradition. He was always there for his family.
He was a board member of Twilight Haven Convalescent Home in Fresno, Calif., and a member of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America - Yosemite Chapter. He was also a South Lane Wheels volunteer.
Survivors include his wife; sons: Kurt Borger of Clovis, Calif., and Dave Borger of Cottage Grove; sister: Frances Hogan of Fresno, Calif.; brother: Tom Borger of Morro Bay, Calif.; and brothers-in-law: Don, Bud and Shannon.
A private gathering will be held at a later date. Interment was held at Belmont Memorial Park in Fresno, Calif. Smith-Lund-Mills was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Twilight Haven Convalescent Home in Fresno, Calif., or to a charity of choice.

Ivan C. Hoyer
1926-2004
Ivan C. Hoyer, 77, of Cottage Grove, died Sunday from heart failure.
Visitation is Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove. A funeral is scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Interment will be at Willamette National cemetery in Portland.
Hoyer was born Nov. 28, 1926, in Battle Creek, Iowa, to Vern and Ella Hoyer.
He moved to Cottage Grove in 1941 and graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1944. He graduated from the University of Oregon with degrees in business and broadcasting.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II.
He married June Lee Hughes in Eugene Aug. 14, 1948.
He took over the family accounting firm, Hoyer Accounting, in the early 1970s. He later sold the firm to his daughter but continued to work there throughout his life. He also worked as a radio announcer and advertising-sales representative at KNND radio. He had an entrepreneurial business spirit throughout his life.
He collected stamps, enjoyed traveling, gold mining in the Bohemia Mines, and he was an avid reader.
He was on the board of directors in 1959 of On to Oregon Cavalcade, he served eight years on the Oregon Board of Tax Service Examiners, he was a longtime member of Cottage Grove Rotary, was a member of Bohemia Mine Owners Association, was a member of the Prospectors and Golddiggers and was past president of the Oregon Society of Tax Consultants.
He was named Cottage Grove First Citizen in 1991.
Survivors include daughter and spouse: Karen and Jim Winters of Cottage Grove; sons and spouses: Verne and Linda Hoyer of Brownsville and Gary and Ruby Hoyer of Aloha; Brother: Lowry Hoyer of Aloha; sister: Sharon Bush of Cottage Grove; companion: Bunny Jamison; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
His wife and daughter, Laura Ann Hoyer, preceded him in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Norida N. Cameron
1933-2004
Norida N. Cameron, 71, of Lorane died Aug. 22 from cancer-related illness.
She was born Feb. 16, 1933, to Benjamin and Agness (Willis) Newton in Inman, Va.
She married William Cameron of Carson City, Nev., April 26, 1962. She was a homemaker.
She moved to Oregon from the San Francisco Bay area.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening indoors and outdoors and feeding her pet deer.
Survivors include two sons: William Cameron Jr. and Robert Cameron of Salem; sister: Peggy Buchholz of Milton, Fla.; granddaughter and grandson: Salina Cameron and Chance Cameron-Hatch; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Joe and Kathy Hatch; friends and neighbors: Jack Adams, Dee Johnson, Betty Jo Johnson and Inez Combs-Edsel.
A potluck gathering was held Thursday at the Lorane Grange. A private cremation was held under the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lorane Grange.

Harold Tapp
1914-2004
Harold Tapp, a 61-year resident of Cottage Grove, died at the age of 90 from cancer.
He was born Aug. 9, 1914, in Renton, Wash., to Louis and Emma Tapp.
He was raised in Elkton and completed eighth grade at Muddy Flat . He was a member of CCC at which time he made and played his own violin.
He married Mae Leatherwood May 19, 1936. She died a few years later. He married Jane Harris June 7, 1952, in Grants Pass.
He was a truck mechanic and worked for R&W; Trucking Co., Bohemia, Georgia Pacific and Pass Creek Paving.
He enjoyed woodworking; repairing pianos, music boxes and clocks; and building player pianos. He was an Intarsia artist and has two pieces of work at the Cottage Grove Museum. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He built his own home, fireplace and patio with rock he and his wife collected, sliced and polished. He also repaired the nickelodeon for the carousel that will be used in a proposed mining and timber park.
He loved people, nature, word search puzzles, jokes and life.
He was a lifetime member of the Masonic and Elks lodges.
He was preceded in death by his wife and daughter, Sue Harris.
No service is planned. A private cremation was held at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove. A register book is available at Magnolia Gardens.

Margaret Wilson
1924-2004
Margaret Wilson of Lorane died Sept. 29 at the age of 80 from age-related causes.
She was born April 29, 1924, to Allen and Katherine Baker in Selma, Calif.
She married Lawrence F. Wilson in Oakland, Calif., Aug. 25, 1945. The couple then moved to Lorane.
She studied to become an LPN in Oakland. She was an LPN in Cottage Grove Hospital for eight years. After she retired she and some doctors from the hospital held periodic shot clinics at her home.
She enjoyed University of Oregon sports and making flower arrangements for Lorane Christian Church, which she was a member of.
She and her husband were married for almost 51 years when he died March 30, 1996. Her son, Lawrence Humes Wilson, died in the Vietnam War.
Survivors include her son and daughter: Carl Lee Wilson and Markay Wilson, both of Lorane; her sister: Athalee "Bobby" Kuskie of Lorane; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren
A graveside funeral and burial were to be at Lane Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Eugene.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lorane Christian Church.

Robert Heicken
1914-2004
Robert Heicken of Cottage Grove died Oct. 4 at the age of 90 from age-related causes.
He was born May 14, 1914, in Chicago, Ill., to Emil and Louise Heicken.
He was raised and attended school in Chicago.
He married Edith Eich on Nov. 29, 1933, in Chicago. She preceded him in death.
He served in World War II in the U.S. Navy and the Merchant Marines.
He was a printer and lithographer.
He lived in Belmont, Calif., for many years before moving to Cottage Grove to be close to family.
He enjoyed classical music, spending time with his family and an occasional bingo game.
He was a member of the Cottage Grove Faith Center.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law: Colleen and Tom Ellis, of Cottage Grove; his daughter: Cathy Salvucci, of Belmont; his sister: Delores Lynch, of Chicago; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
No service is planned.
