Edith "Louise" Boustead
1921-2004
Edith "Louise" Boustead, a 44-resident of Cottage Grove, died May 6 at the age of 83 from cancer.
She was born April 9, 1921, in Winterset, Iowa, to Frank and Mary Cooper.
She married Joseph Emge in 1937 and he died in 1950. She married Robert Boustead March 24, 1957, in Woodbine, Iowa. They moved to Cottage Grove in 1960.
Above all, her family was of utmost importance to her. She also enjoyed painting, sewing, basket making, flowers and crafts.
She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Altar Society and a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for over 43 years.
Survivors include her husband; sons: Eric Emge of Albany and Bobby Boustead of Seattle, Wash.; daughters: Judith Connole and Beverly Ward of Cottage Grove, Jean Duncan of Eugene and Anna Reich of Salem; sister: Frances of Sioux City, Iowa; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A recitation of Rosary was held May 9 at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove. A service was held May 10 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and interment was at Sears cemetery in Cottage Grove.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 2350 Oakmont Way, Suite 200, Eugene, OR 97401.

Carol Joan Sunkler
1936-2004
Carol Joan Sunkler, 67, of Monroe died July 8 at Samaritan Heart of the Valley Hospital in Corvallis.
A memorial service will be held July 25 at 4 p.m. at Creswell Church of Christ, 410 Holbrook Lane in Creswell.
She was born in Los Angeles, Calif., Nov. 7, 1936, to Warren and Joan Vaughn.
She married Wilbur Louis Sunkler Feb. 14, 1959, in Los Angeles, Calif. She lived in Prineville in 1962, Creswell from 1963 to 1965, in Glide in 1965, Wistlerbend in 1966, Dixonville from 1967 to 1968, Roseburg from 1969 to 1974, Cottage Grove from 1974 to 1999 and Monroe from 1999 to 2004.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Suburban Christian Church.
Survivors include sisters: Alice Lorimer and Edith Wolff; children: Howard, Michael, Julia and William (Butch) Sunkler.
McHenry Funeral Home of Corvallis is in charge of arrangements.

Elvie L. Hughes
1931-2004
Elvie L. Hughes, of Dorena, died July 20 at the age of 73 from renal failure.
He was born June 27, 1931, with his twin brother, Elzie, to John and Lillian Hughes in Zafra, Okla.
He married Lillian Bennett in October 1950 in Mena, Ark.
He worked as a long-haul truck driver in the Southwest before moving to Oregon in 1954. He worked in the lumber industry for most of his life. He was employed with Weyerhaeuser Lumber Co. at three different operations, including a trimmer operator, over a 28-year period before retiring in 1989.
He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting, working puzzles and coin collecting. He loved animals and his family had lots of pets over the years.
He is survived by his wife; daughter: Elizabeth Whelan of Cobden, Ill.; sons: Daniel Hughes of Conestoga, Penn., Steven Hughes of Springfield and David Hughes of Cottage Grove; longtime companion: Lori Gilliss of Cottage Grove and their dog, Chopper; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Elzie, who was killed in the Korean War. The brothers were the youngest of a family of 12 children. Elvie was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A service was held Monday at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel followed by interment at Sears cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Cottage Grove.

Orville E. White
1914-2004
Orville E. White, 90, a lifelong resident of the area, died Saturday from age-related causes.
A memorial service is scheduled for today at 11 a.m. at Living Faith Christian Fellowship in Cottage Grove. Interment will follow at Taylor Lane cemetery in Cottage Grove. Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
He was born March 17, 1914, to Charles and Ida White in Beaver Creek.
He married Zyla Raye La Blue in Coquille March 8, 1934.
He was a log truck owner and operator and was retired from Bohemia Western Trucking.
He enjoyed horses, rodeo competition and rodeo announcing and fishing.
He was a member of Living Faith Christian Fellowship of Cottage Grove, Cottage Grove Riding Club and Yoncalla Riding Club.
Survivors include his wife; sons: Richard White of Portland and Keith White of Metz; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Family Relief Nursery, P.O. Box1207, Cottage Grove, OR 97424.

Beulah Martin
1909-2004
Beulah Mae Martin, of Cottage Grove, died Oct. 6 of age-related causes. She was 95.
She was born to Ray and Ida Kelly and married Harold L. Martin on Sept. 11, 1927, in Abilene, Kan. He died on Jan. 22, 1995.
She graduated from Abilene High School in 1927 and lived in Abilene until moving to Cottage Grove in August 1940.
She was a clerk at Kellys Meat Market for many years.
She enjoyed the outdoors, often gardening, fishing or visiting the ocean beaches. She was an accomplished painter of outdoor scenes and flowers.
She loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons: C.E. "Lefty" Martin of Cottage Grove and William Martin of Castle Rock, Colo.; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
No service is planned. Private inurnment will be in Fir Grove cemetery.
Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothea Sallila
1921-2004
Dorothea Virginia Sallila, 83, of Cottage Grove, died Oct. 15, 2004, of cancer.
She was born to Joel and Nell (Horne) Kent on Feb. 5, 1921, in Denver, Colo. She married Rupert M. Sallila on April 23, 1974, in Virginia City, Nev.
She lived in San Francisco until 1974 and in Sacramento, Calif., until 1987, then moved to Cottage Grove.
She was assistant manager of the Amazon Theater in San Francisco and motel/hotel manager at the Grenada and Thunderbird Hotels in West Sacramento.
She enjoyed art and collecting dolls.
She belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, the Moose Lodge and American Veterans.
She is survived by her husband: Rupert Sallila; five sons: Joel, Eddy, Fred, Tom and Ron; four daughters: Marie, Charleen, Nancy and Deborah; as well as 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A son, Clarence, died before her.
No service is planned.
Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Francisco Ruiz
1907-2004
Francisco Ruiz, 96, of Modesto, Calif., died Feb. 13 at Modesto Convale-scent Hospital.
He was a native of Zacatecas, Mexico, and lived in Modesto, Calif., for 30 years.
He was an evangelist for 60 years and was a member of Apostolic Assembly First Church of Modesto.
He was preceded in death by a brother, sister and three sons.
He is survived by his wife: Lucia Ruiz of Modesto, Calif.; children: Seferino Ruiz and Jose Ruiz of Sacramento, Santiago Ruiz of Everett, Wash., Epifano Ruiz of Marysville, Wash., Marcos Ruiz of Creswell, Emeterio Ruiz of Cottage Grove, Jesse Ruiz of Mount Vernon, Wash.; Elida Rodriguez of Empire, Hortencia Espinoza and Rose Ruiz of Modesto, Calif.; brother: Estanislado Ruiz of Mexico; 38 grandchildren; and over 50 great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Burial was at Lakewood Memorial cemetery in Empire, Calif., Feb. 18.

Vesta Bell Edin
1920-2004
Vesta Bell Edin, of Tigard, died May 1 at the age of 83 from cancer.
She was born Nov. 20, 1920, in Rainer to Wilson and Alice Lowman.
She attended one year of college.
She married James Edin in Eugene Jan. 4, 1941.
She formerly lived in Yoncalla from 1946 to 1980, Tillamook from 1980 to 1996, and Eugene from 1996 until she moved to Tigard to be with family two years ago.
She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper for a family logging business.
She enjoyed reading.
She was a member of Westside Christian Church in Eugene and the Tillamook Christian Church. She was also a member of the Tillamook Grange.
Survivors include her husband; sons: Phillip Edin of Tigard and Terrence Edin of Lexington, Ky.; sisters-in-law: Wilma Stoddard and Lillian Lowman of Elmira; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A service was held May 6 at Lane Memorial Chapel and interment was at Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene. Arrangements were under the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tigard Christian Church, 13405 S.W. Hall Blvd., Tigard, OR 97223.
