Violet J. Reeves
Violet Jesse Reeves died June 17, 2005, at her home in Riverton, Wyo. She was 83.
She was born July 25, 1921, in Elbert County, Colo. She married Harold Reeves in March 1938. In 1957, the couple bought a farm near Riverton where they lived for the next 45 years, until his death.
She was a member at First Baptist Church until her health declined. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school, and helped lead a women's missionary society that provided assistance to the needy at home and abroad. For 20 years, she held a Bible study in her home.
Her family said she enjoyed working with disabled children at the Wyoming State Training School in Lander, first as a volunteer and later as an activity therapist. She enjoyed mothering, gardening and walking the hills, collecting rocks and artifacts.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001.
Survivors include: daughters, Roberta Engnell of Newberg and Mary Ann Bell of Middleburg, Va.; son Weston Reeves of Casper, Wyo.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sisters, Ruth of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Nellie Butler of Florence, Colo.
Burial was held June 20. A memorial service will be held on Aug. 5 at First Baptist Church in Riverton.
Memorial contributions may be made to help care for abandoned children with disabilities at Sunshine School in Romania through Romanian Christian Enterprises, 21058 Unison Road, Middleburg, VA 20117-2508.

Margaret E. Trebelhorn
Margaret Evelyn Trebelhorn of Newberg died June 22, 2005, at King City Rehabilitation and Living Center. She was 86.
She was born March 23, 1919, in Normal, Ill. She lived in the Portland and Tigard areas. She worked as a banquet coordinator for the Hilton Hotel.
Survivors include: daughters, Susan Maddy of Salem and Sandra Schmidt of Newberg; sons, Bob and Ken Trebelhorn, both of Gresham; sister Edith Bartlett of Palm Springs, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. July 2 at the home of Sandra Schmidt, 29600 N.E. David Lane, Newberg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association or to the Willamette Falls Hospice.

Carolyn R. Majors
Former Newberg resident Carolyn R. Majors died June 12, 2005, at her home in McMinnville. She was 58.
She was born April 12, 1947, to Raymond and Elizabeth (Petrie) Hovee in Corvallis. She was raised in Newberg. She attended Dundee Elementary School, Edwards Junior High School and graduated from Newberg High School in 1965. She graduated from Oregon State University in 1969. She taught biology at Corvallis High School for two years. She also worked at a research lab at OSU, eventually put in charge of the research facility for the study of the tussock moth.
She married Calvin Majors on November 1974 in Corvallis. She moved to McMinnville in 1985. She went to work for the McMinnville School District in 1993 and taught at Grandhaven School. She was a Title One Educational Assistant in 1999.
She enjoyed genealogy, gardening, music and reading. She played the violin.
Survivors include: husband Cal of McMinnville; sons, David of Hillsboro, Ben of Harbor City, Calif., Jake of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Joseph of McMinnville; daughters, Calvy Jo Clayton of Meridian, Idaho, Mary Archibald of Monmouth and Heather Majors of McMinnville; father Ray Hovee of Newberg; stepmother Neva Hovee of Newberg; sister Ann Hovee of Tigard and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brother Alan.
A service was held June 12 at the chapel of Macy and Son Funeral Directors in McMinnville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or the Genealogical Society, care of Macy and Son Funeral Directors, 135 N. Evans, McMinnville, OR 97128.

Lloyd G. Parrott
Newberg native Lloyd George Parrott died June 19, 2005, at a Salem care facility. He was 88.
He was born April 24, 1917, to James and Beretta (Riley) Parrott in Newberg. He grew up and received his early education at Ladd Hill Grade School and Butteville School. In 1936 he graduated from Newberg High School and moved to Crescent, where he farmed. On May 29, 1939, he married Dorothy Martin in Bend. In 1942, they returned to Sherwood, where he farmed until he began work as a truck driver. He drove trucks for 52 years, working for Lee Moore Trucking, Stanton Manufacturing and Rose Island Concrete. At 62, he retired. He and his wife moved to Dallas, where they have resided for the past 11 years.
He was a former member of the Sherwood United Methodist Church and the Teamster's Union. He built several homes for his family. He was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards and enjoyed the organ and the piano.
Survivors include: wife Dorothy of Dallas; daughters, Sharon Delker of Seaside, Vicki Beal of Lake Oswego and Toni McCarthy of Dallas; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
A funeral service was held June 23 at Attrell's Sherwood Funeral Chapel with Pastor Gerry Hill officiating. Committal followed at Pleasant View cemetery in Sherwood.

Chuck A. Connors
Chuck A. Connors died of cancer June 19, 2005, at his home in Newberg. He was 45.
He was born May 11, 1960, to James and Ruth (Flowers) Connors in Seattle. He was on the wrestling team at Mariner High School. He worked in the construction industry. He lived in the Everett, Wash., area before moving to Las Vegas for two years. He moved to Tillamook, where he resided for two years. He moved to Lynnwood, Wash.. In 1989 he moved to Newberg. He married Karla Werner on March 2, 1996, in Newberg.
He worked for Colamette Construction from 1989 to 1994 and from 1996 to 2000. He worked at H&A Construction from 1994 to 1996. He worked at Todd Construction from 2000 to 2001. He worked from 2002 until present for Woodburn Construction.
He enjoyed spending time with family and watching his son wrestle on the high school team. His hobbies included dirt bike riding and drag racing. The family said he 'enjoyed kicking back with friends over a couple of beers.'
Survivors include: wife Karla of Newberg; sons, Dustin of Newberg and Zach Porter of Tualatin; daughter Peggy Porter of Dundee; mother, Ruth Stuart of Riondel, British Columbia, Canada; brothers, Jim of Lynnwood, Wash., Tom of Las Vegas, John of Salem and Steve of Allersberg, Germany.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jim, and brother, Ray.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today (Saturday) at the chapel of Macy and Son Funeral Directors, 135 N. Evans, McMinnville. Pastor Matthew Eagan of Calvary Lutheran Church of Hillsboro will officiate.

Tamera Hearn
Lafayette resident Tamera 'Tami' Hearn died June 15, 2005, in Augusta, Maine. She was 18.
She was born June 9, 1987, to Edward Burroughs and Cheryl and Bob Dodson in McMinnville and spent the first two years of her life in the Yamhill County area. At age 2 her family moved to the Kern River Valley in Kern County, Calif., where she attended school.
Her family returned to McMinnville and Lafayette when she was 9. She attended Wascher Elementary School, Patton Middle School and St. Paul High School for a time before graduating from McMinnville High School June 10. She then flew to Maine.
She coached Special Olympics.
Survivors include: parents, Cheryl and Bob Dodson and Edward Burroughs, all of Lafayette; grandparents, Paul Hearn of Stockton, Calif., and Sandy Chapman of Alaska; brothers Joshua Hearn and Cody Burroughs, both of Lafayette; stepsisters, Darcy Hearn of Anderson, Calif., and Farah Baker of Redding, Calif.; cousin Jesse Kinney of McMinnville; aunts, Susie Kinney of McMinnville, Stacy Hearn of Red Bluff, Calif., and Shiela Hearn of Red Bluff; uncle Scott Hearn of Anderson; fiance Ben Ream of Newberg; and many nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the chapel of Macy and Son, 135 N. Evans St., McMinnville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics of the Mid-Valley Rehab Workshop, care of Macy and Son.

L. Merle Green
L. Merle Green died June 11, 2005, at his Newberg home. He was 92.
He was born Jan. 24, 1913, to Elmer and Martha (Brown) Green north of the Texas Panhandle in Beaver County, Okla. In 1919 the family moved to Wichita, Kan., while his mother was receiving eye treatments.
At 7 he moved with his family to Springbrook, where he attended Springbrook Grade School. He graduated in 1931 from Newberg High School and attended Pacific College and Portland Bible Institute. He graduated from the institute in 1937.
He met Thelma at the institute and married her in October 1938 at Fairhaven Methodist Church in Bellingham, Wash. The couple moved to Woodland, Idaho, for their first pastorate. Five years later, they moved on to Rosemere Friends Church in Vancouver, Wash.
For the next 24 years he pastored churches in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Iowa. He and his wife moved to Newberg and were members of the Newberg Friends Church for one year. In 1973 he was asked to serve as visitation minister and assist on the platform of the Sherwood Friends Church for three years. They remained members there.
Survivors include: sons, Milton and David, both of Newberg; daughter Evangelyn Hammond of Newberg; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four nieces and 11 nephews.
A memorial service was held June 17 at Sherwood Community Friends Church with Pastor Ken Vanden Hoek officiating. Committal followed at Newberg Friends cemetery.

Marty Rahrer
Lake Oswego resident Marty Rahrer, who had family in Newberg, died June 12, 2005. He was 58.
He was born Oct. 2, 1946, in Portland. He was raised in Woodburn. He graduated from Willamette University and Willamette Law School, followed by Georgetown University. He was a Sigma Alpha Epsilon alumni. After law school, he was an officer in the Navy and remained in the Naval Reserves as a commander until 1998.
He began his law profession in Washington, D.C., as a legislative assistant to Al Ullman. He was then an attorney advisor to the U.S. Treasury Department. He was a partner in the Woodburn firm of Eichsteadt, Bolland, Engle, Schmidtman and Rohrer. He served as justice of the peace for Marion County. He was was a vice president and trust officer at Bank of California and U.S. Bank. In 2003, he became an attorney of counsel for Bullivant, Houser, Bailey, PC.
He was active in many groups, including president of Woodburn Rotary and president of the Oregon Hope and Health Center. He was member of Estate Planning Council of Portland, the Lake Oswego Planning Commission and the Portland Rotary Charitable Trust.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen, and daughters, Michelle and Shannon.
A funeral service was held June 17 at Young's Funeral Home in Tigard.
Memorial contributions may be made at any branch of U.S. Bank in an account dubbed the 'Marty Rahrer Memorial, ' to defray college expenses for his daughter.

David V. Stone
David Vincent Stone died June 8, 2005, at his home in Newberg. He was 52.
He was born May 21, 1953, to Loyd and Edith (Wendell) Stone in Newberg. He grew up in Newberg, attending Ewing Young Elementary School and Newberg High School. He attended Portland Community College, studying automobile mechanics. He worked for Westnut Incorporated.
He enjoyed working on cars, camping, the outdoors, gardening and flowers. He attended the Newberg Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Survivors include: parents, Loyd and Edith Stone of Newberg; brother Terry of Portland; sister Linda Cantrell of Kingman, Ariz., and Newberg; niece Charlene Lefebvre and two grand-nieces.
A memorial service was held June 13, 2005, at Newberg Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Timothy Mayne officiating. Committal was private.

Gary J. Weickum
Former Newberg resident Gary James Weickum died June 10, 2005, at his home in McMinnville. He was 64.
He was born Jan. 15, 1941, to Edvin and Ella (Baesler) Weickum in McMinnville. He was raised and attended school in Portland. After a tour of duty in the Marine Corps in the early 1960s he moved to Newberg. In 1993 he moved to McMinnville. He was an avid photographer. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his son.
Survivors include: son Douglas of Newberg; daughter Julie LeFler of Milwaukie; mother Ella Ahrens of New Leipzig, N.D., and brother Edvin of Portland.
Private family services will be held.

Larry F. Wolff
Larry F. Wolff of Newberg died June 11, 2005. He was 68.
He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on July 27, 1936, to Alex and Dorothy (Robertson) Wolff. He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1954. He married his high school sweetheart, Harriett Knotts, in his hometown on Aug. 20, 1954.
The couple moved to Oregon in 1959 and were co-owners of Modern Plumbing in Tigard. After selling his business and retiring, he worked as a plumbing inspector for Marion County and the cities of Newberg and Eugene.
He enjoyed camping and working in his yard. He was also a square dance caller for the Tigard 59ers. He enjoyed spending time with his family. An avid sports fan, he 'loved to hate the Trail Blazers, ' family members said. He attended Northside Community Church in Newberg.
Survivors include: wife Harriett of Newberg; sons, Jeffrey, John and James, all of Newberg; daughters, Jacquelyn Strayer of Bend and Julie Berry of Salem; father Alex of Oregon City; brother Don of Woodburn; sister Sue Foreman of Corvallis and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Wolff, in 1973.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Evergreen Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Northside Community Church in Newberg.
