Avis E. Bach
Parrett Mountain resident Avis E. Bach died Nov. 4, 2005. She was 95.
She was born Nov. 22, 1909, to Theodore and Alma (Thompson) Bakke in Fergus Falls, Minn., where she grew up and graduated from high school. She went to college to obtain a teaching certificate and taught in the public schools in Minnesota. She married Jack Brewster and the couple moved to Sherwood. They purchased 85 acres on Parrett Mountain, where they started Sherwood Lumber Products, making survey stakes.
Her husband preceded her in death after 29 years of marriage. She continued to operate the lumber company.
In 1966 she married Herbert Bach. They ran the business together until they both retired. The couple enjoyed traveling. Her second husband preceded her in death in March 1995 after 29 years of marriage.
A piano player, she enjoyed music and dancing. She was a member of Eastern Star, the Grange and the Rebekah Lodge. She also enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors include: daughter Amber Hutchens of Chugiak, Alaska; sons, Robert Bach of Appleton, Wash., Bill Brewster of Corvallis and Tom Brewster of McMinnville; three brothers in Minnesota and Florida; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Nov. 8 at Attrell's Sherwood Funeral Chapel with Pastor John Wild officiating. Committal was private.

Goldie V. Brunson
Longtime Newberg resident Goldie Viola Brunson died Oct. 29, 2005, at a Newberg care facility. She was 87.
She was born July 13, 1918, to William and Ethel (Morris) Hays in Agate, Colo. She lived in Colorado, Missouri and Ohio. Her father was a railroad man and her family moved as his job required. In 1942, she moved to Newberg, where she has since resided. She married Stanley Brunson on Aug. 3, 1950, in Reno. The couple made Newberg their home.
An avid traveler, she enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. She was a member of the 1918 club.
Survivors include: husband Stanley of Newberg; sons, Robert Fugate of Sherwood and Richard Fugate of Prineville; daughter Beverly Meeker of Newberg; brother John Hays of Newberg; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Nov. 19 at Newberg Christian Church with Pastor David Case officiating. Committal is private.

Harry R. Bryant
St. Paul resident Harry Richard 'Dick' Bryant died Oct. 27, 2005, in Newberg. He was 79.
He was born Jan. 30, 1926, to Harry and Louise (McKimens) Bryant in Portland. He served in the Navy on the USS Bon Homme during World War II. He attended Sherwood High School, from 1941 to 1943 and Oregon State University, where he earned a master's degree in forest engineering. He worked for 33 years for the U.S. Forest Service in Eugene, Medford, Portland and Washington, D.C. He worked the past 30-plus years as a farmer in St Paul.
He married Patricia Erben on June 21, 1946.
He was a 50-year member of the Society of American Foresters. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, the outdoors and spending time with family.
Survivors include: wife Patricia of St. Paul; sons, Andrew of Sherwood and David of Cordova, Alaska; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sister Claire Louise, parents Lousie and Harry, and daughter Pamella Kline.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Newberg Presbyterian Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Newberg Presbyterian Church, 501 Mission Drive.

Edgar L. Robbins
Newberg resident Edgar Lynn Rollins died Oct. 30, 2005, at Providence Newberg Hospital. He was 84.
He was born Sept. 17, 1921, to Harry and Marie (Haughawout) Rollins in Carthage, Mo. He was known as Lynn. He graduated from Carthage High School and attended Joplin Junior College before transferring to the University of Missouri at Columbia. He earned a degree in business administration. At the university he met Stephanie 'Stevie' Charlet, whom he married on Aug. 14, 1946, in New York City. He had recently returned from serving in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
He and his wife moved in 1948 to Portland. They later moved to Missouri, living in Carthage and St. Joseph. From there they moved to New Orleans, then returned to New York for a time before moving to Lincoln, Neb. In 1992, after his retirement, he and his wife moved to Newberg to be near family.
He was a communicant of Grace Episcopal Church while living in Carthage and most recently of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in McMinnville. He served on the vestry of both churches. He also served on the board of directors of Henderson House in McMinnville.
He enjoyed spending many of his last birthdays in Paris, most recently in 2005.
Survivors include: daughters, Lindy Rollins of Newberg and Donna Rollins of Portland, Maine; granddaughters, Drew Robinson of Portland and Kaelyn Robinson of Olympia; sister Jacquelyn Brown of Carthage and nine nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Stevie and sisters, Dorothy Harrison and Harriet Williams.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 10 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in McMinnville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Irene H. Taylor
Newberg resident Irene Helen Taylor died Oct. 25, 2005, following a sudden illness. She was 68.
She was born Dec. 15, 1936, to George and Letty (Zander) Reeves in Glendale, Calif., where she was raised and educated. She was a homemaker. She was a past member of the Orangevale, Calif., VFW. She lived in Orangevale for more than 20 years. She moved to South Lake Tahoe, Calif., where she lived for seven years prior to moving to Newberg. She lived in Newberg for eight years.
Survivors include: Donald Black; sons, Chris Miller and Mike Black; daughters, Carol Bainbridge, Susan Caldwell, Barbara Rankin and Glenda Bertrand; sister Glenda Horn; aunt Esther Berronge; uncle Bud Reeves; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 29 in Sherwood.

Ronald Crecelius
Longtime Newberg resident Ronald Crecelius died of natural causes on Oct. 1, 2005, at a Newberg retirement home. He was 84.
He was born March 3, 1921, to Charles and Revetta (St. Clair) Crecelius in Columbus, Ind. He served in the Air Force during World War II and the Korean War.
Crecelius attended George Fox College (now George Fox University). There he and three others - Dick Cadd, Harlow Ankeny and Norval Hadley - formed the Four Flats quartet in 1946. They won the Northwest Barbershop Harmony Championship two years in a row. The quartet sang on the CBS Radio Network and traveled extensively with Youth for Christ, ministering at schools churches, youth rallies and service clubs.
Bob Pierce, founder of World Vision, in 1956 invited the quartet to accompany him on a tour of Korea. This began their association with World Vision, where they were known as the World Vision Quartet.
The Four Flats sang for radio broadcasts, Phil Kerr programs, Billy Graham crusades, and presidents Eisenhower and Nixon at the presidential prayer breakfasts. During this time with World Vision, the Four Flats traveled the United States and Asia and released many recordings.
As a recorded minister in the Friends Church, he pastored in the Northwest and California. He later served as a military academy chaplain before assuming the chaplaincy of George Fox College. He served in that role from 1967 to 1985. He then became chaplain emeritus and evangelist at large for George Fox. Later he became an independent speaker throughout the west. Since 1962 he served as chaplain with the Civic Air Patrol.
He earned two degrees from George Fox College and masters degrees from Western Evangelical Seminary and Pasadena College. In 1981 he was awarded an honorary doctor of divinity degree from Western Evangelical Seminary. He has been a member of the American Guild of Variety Artists, Optimist International and National Educators Fellowship.
On June 17, 1947, he marred his college sweetheart, Divonna Schweitzer.
Survivors include: sons, Rodney of Hayden Lake, Idaho, and Ron Jr. and Robin, both of Haines, Alaska; daughters, DiAnn Garner of Hayden Lake and Denise of Newberg; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brother Charles.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Newberg Friends Church, 307 S. College.
Memorial contributions may be made to the George Fox University Scholarship Fund or to the Twin Rocks Friends Camp.

Lawrence W. Raymer
Newberg resident Lawrence W. Raymer died of natural causes on Oct. 18, 2005, at St. Vincent's Hospital. He was 89.
He was born Feb. 24, 1916, to Charles and Amanda (Bloxom) Raymer in Neoga, Ill. He was self educated. He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps and for Boeing. He also worked as a dairy farmer, real estate investor and electrical worker.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine, in 1988.
He married Tena Vanderzee-Raymer on Nov. 14, 1992.
Survivors include: his wife, Tena; daughters, Lorraine Bjork of Newberg, Myra Harvey of Rice Lake, Wis., Dorsey Bjork of Auburn, Wash., Colleen Prine of Ashland, Wis., and Julia Raymer of Ashland, Wis.; son Douglas Raymer of San Diego; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is 2 p.m. Nov. 6 at Newberg First United Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Cancer Society.

Doris L. Koch
Former Newberg resident Doris Louise Koch died Oct. 25, 2005, at her granddaughter's home in Hillsboro. She was 89.
She was born Feb. 21, 1916, to Roy and Effie (McCabe) McFall in Oshkosh, Neb. She grew up and went to school in Nebraska. On Sept. 23, 1937, she married Bernard Koch in Cheyenne, Wyo. The couple moved to Newberg in 1940. They moved in 1972 to Redmond, where they lived until her husband's retirement. In 1987, they moved to Beaverton for two years and then to Tigard, where she has since resided. On March 13, 2003, her husband preceded her in death.
Doris enjoyed crafts, including painting dolls and making clothes for them. She bought, sold and collected antiques. She enjoyed her family.
Survivors include: sons, Jerry of Redmond and Kerry of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter Cheryl Pariser of Rancho Mirage, Calif.; brother Lloyd McFall of Sherwood; grandchildren, Kelly A., Kelly W., Tyree, Toby, and Chanie Koch, and Kimberly Harris and Tonya Walshe; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. today (Saturday) at Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel, 207 Villa Road, with the Rev. Don Fivecoat officiating. Concluding service with vault interment will follow at Noble Pioneer cemetery in Newberg.
Chapel viewing and visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the service.

Doris L. Foster
Doris Louise Foster died Oct. 11, 2005, at a care facility in Newberg. She was 93.
She was born March 23, 1912, to Harley and Nancy (Donnell) Osborne in Summit, Penn. She earned a teaching degree from Edinboro State College of Teaching in Ernie, Penn. She first taught in a one-room classroom in Pennsylvania. She moved to Oregon and attended school at Western Oregon State University in Monmouth. She taught school for more than 25 years in the Coos Bay and Newberg areas.
In 1942 she married Elvin Foster. He preceded her in death on May 7, 1991.
Survivors include: daughter Darlene Foster of Newberg; sons, Allen of Bremerton, Wash., and Daryl of Springfield; brothers, Wilbur and Bob Osborn; sister Margaret Tryzkiak; four grandsons; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today (Saturday) at First United Methodist Church in Newberg with Pastor Jane Shafer officiating. Committal is private at Willamette National cemetery in Portland.

Richard J. Mori
Dundee resident Richard John Mori died Oct. 21, 2005, at Providence Newberg Hospital. He was 75.
He was born Sept. 27, 1930, to Pompeo and Beatrice (Benassi) Mori in San Francisco. He grew up in El Cerrito, Calif., where he graduated from El Cerrito High School. He graduated from San Francisco State College with a degree in industrial arts. On Aug. 14, 1965, he married Prudence Lucero. They made their home in Pinole, Calif.
He served in the U.S. Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to El Cerrito, where he began a teaching career. He taught architectural drafting at Redmond High School and later at Pinole Valley High School. He retired in 1991.
Ten years ago the couple relocated to the Pacific Northwest. They live in Sherwood for two years and then moved to Dundee to build their dream home.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Peter Catholic Church in Newberg. He enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, fishing, hunting and backpacking. His family said he told 'the best stories, played a mean hand of cards and read voraciously.'
Survivors include: wife Prudence Mori of Dundee; sons, Richard of Ashland, Jeff of Tigard, Michael of Colfax, Calif., and Chris of Brentwood, Calif.; daughter Cheryl Berndt of Concord, Calif., and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Oct. 25 at Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel with with Father Norman Aldred officiating. Committal was private.
