Shirley Kinkade
Newberg native Shirley Ann Kinkade of Brookings died Jan. 15, 2007, at Oregon Health and Sciences University Hospital in Portland. She was 71.
She was born July 12, 1935, to Curtis and Verna (Dressel) Martin of Newberg. She grew up in the Newberg area. In 1951, she married Glen Canfield of Newberg. She remarried twice, to Berle Stonebrink in 1956, and Ronald Kinkade in 1966.
She owned and operated the 'Shape Up Tone & Tan' salon in Brookings. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and solitaire, and was a member of the Brookings Elks Lodge.
Survivors include: brothers, Curtis Martin of Salem and Larry Martin of Beaverton; sons, Scott Canfield of Newberg and Loren Stonebrink of Brookings; daughters, Paula McKeen of Lebanon and Pamela Ornduff of Brookings; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by son Gary Stonebrink in 1991, and her third husband Ron Kinkade in 1998.
Memorial services are being planned in Newberg and Brookings.

Amelia Schneider
Amelia 'Millie' Schneider died Jan. 14, 2007, at Chehalem Health and Rehabilitation in Newberg. She was 88.
She was born Oct. 22, 1918, in Milwaukee, Wisc., to David and Elizabeth (Kaiser) Wagner. She moved with her family to Oregon in the early 1930s. She worked at New System Portland Laundry. She married Joe Schneider on March 19, 1938. They came to Newberg in 1952, when they purchased Newberg Garbage and Recycling Service from her parents.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, the Parent-Teacher Association and the Business and Professional Women's association. She enjoyed cooking and sewing and was a fan of the TV series 'I Love Lucy.'
Survivors include: sons, Alan of Bunker Hill, Va., and Marvin of Newberg; daughters, Joanne Goehner of Dundee and Carol Smith of Malta, Mont.; sisters, Ruth Flud and Katie LaJoie of Newberg; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995, brother Jacob Wagner, sisters Lydia Black and Mary Wendt, and grandson Jeff Schneider.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today (Saturday) at Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel with Pastor Norman Olson officiating. Committal will follow at Valley View Memorial Park in Newberg.

Rebecca A. Morrow
Rebecca Ann 'Becky' Morrow died Jan. 12, 2007, in a car accident. She was 21.
She was born March 6, 1985, in Portland to Mark and Cynthia (Martinez) Morrow. She grew up in St. Paul, attending St. Paul Grade School and Newberg High School. She became a certified pharmacy technician and worked at Walgreen's in Oregon City.
She was a former member of the NHS school choir and enjoyed reading and watching movies.
Survivors include: parents Mark and Cynthia of St. Paul; brothers, Joseph Lenhardt of Salem and Marcus of St. Paul; grandparents, Olivia Martinez of St. Paul, Carol Lenhardt of Canby, Ken of Lincoln City and Russ of Milwaukie; and great-grandparents Addie Willbroad of Canby and Evelyn Morrow of Pomeroy, Wash.
A funeral service was held Jan. 19 at Newberg Christian Church with pastor David Case officiating. Committal followed at St. Paul Catholic cemetery; a reception followed at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Newberg F.I.S.H. (Friends In Service to Humanity) in care of Attrell's, 207 Villa Road, Newberg OR 97132.

Arthur D. Hay
Former Newberg resident Arthur David Hay died of natural causes on Jan. 13, 2006, in Brush Prairie, Wash. He was 74.
He was born Oct. 2, 1932, in Glasgow, Scotland, and resided in Oregon from 1971 to 1998. He worked as a restaurateur, primarily self-employed.
He married Joan Say in 1957. They moved to Washington state in 1998.
Survivors include: wife Joan of Brush Prairie; sons, Gary and Scott; daughter Sandie; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Memorial Park. Call 503-771-1117 for more information.

Karen K. Linke
Karen Kay Linke of Dayton died Jan. 16, 2007. She was 66.
She was born Dec. 19, 1940, in Beatrice, Neb., to Phillip and Mary (McKernen) Moser. She grew up in Nebraska. She married Delano Linke on May 3, 1972. The couple moved to Dayton in 1981, where they operated Delano Supply. The couple adopted three children
She enjoyed country music and collecting dolls.
Survivors include: husband Delano of Dayton; sister Phyllis Kechley of Nebraska; sons, Bill Moser and Pat and Chris Linke of Omaha, Todd Heineman of Columbus, Neb., and Randy Linke of Banks; daughters, Kimberly Thomas of Kansas City, Mo., Marcy Linke of Nebraska and Rhonda Larrison of Enterprise; 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her children Benny, Pam and Marty; and 13 siblings.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today (Saturday) at Joyful Servant Lutheran Church in Newberg. Committal will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery in McMinnville.

Ella Fletcher
Ella L. Fletcher of Newberg died Jan. 13, 2007, at a local care home. She was 86.
She was born Sept. 26, 1920, to Edward and Janet (Symington) Pack in Beaver Lodge, Alberta, Canada. She moved with her family to Neche, N.D., when she was a child. She graduated from Neche High School in 1937. The family spent winters in Newberg, moving here permanently in 1942.
She married Frank Fletcher in 1942 in Newberg. The couple moved to St. Paul in 1950. She worked for GAF, retiring in 1983, at which time she and her husband began spending their winters in Mesa, Ariz.
She became a member of the St. Paul Rodeo Association in 1950. She was also a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the Sherwood Elks Lodge.
She enjoyed gardening, especially roses, geraniums and hydrangeas.
Survivors include: son, William of Reno; daughter Patricia Stone of Glendale, Ariz.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 2000, and by her brother Russ Pack and her parents.
A rosary vigil service was held Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial was Tuesday at the church.

Karl Alteneder
Karl J. Alteneder of Newberg died Jan. 12, 2007. He was 83.
He was born in 1924 in Orofino, Idaho, to Frank and Aleta Alteneder. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific.
He married Donna in 1947. They settled in Portland in 1950, and he began a career in the lumber industry, living at various times in Seaside, Tillamook, Springfield and Sequim, Wash. His wife preceded him in death.
He retired to Newberg in 1987. He was a member of Newberg Friends Church, where he served as head usher.
He served on numerous boards, including those of the Western Evangelical Seminary, Friendsview Manor and the Friends cemetery Committee. He was also a member of Kiwanis, and a 55-year member of Gideons International, where he held local and state offices.
He enjoyed organic gardening and fishing.
Survivors include: wife of eight months Ardys of Newberg; sons, Dave and Randy; daughters, Sherry Mercer, Susan Skyberg and Kathie Thompson; sister Myrna Grasser; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Newberg Friends Church.

Darcy E. Muller
Darcy Elaine Muller died of a rare heart defect on Jan. 8, 2007 at Meridian Park Hospital. She was 11.
She was born Jan. 14, 1995, in Heidelberg, Germany, to Doug and Jan (Palmer) Muller. She and her family came to the U.S. in 1997, making their home in Sherwood.
She attended Hopkins Elementary and Sherwood Middle schools. She played the trumpet and piano, and enjoyed soccer, lacrosse, volleyball and riding horses.
Survivors include: parents Doug and Jan of Sherwood; brother Stuart of Sherwood; grandparents, Margie and Charlie Palmer of Tigard and George and Joyce Muller of Corvallis.
A funeral service was held Jan. 13 at Mount Home United Methodist Church in Sherwood. Private committal was at Gibbs cemetery in Sherwood.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Darcy Elaine Muller Memorial Fund at the Bank of America in Sherwood, or in care of Attrell's Sherwood Funeral Chapel, 16195 S.W. First St., Sherwood, OR 97140.

Jacque Parsons
Jacque 'Jack' Parsons of Sherwood died Jan. 10, 2007. He was 73.
He was born Nov. 26, 1934, in Canaan Valley, W. Va., to Cecil and Sadie (Cooper) Parsons. He graduated from West Virginia University and earned a master's degree in horticulture from the University of Maryland.
He was employed by Oregon State University as an extension agent for 25 years. During that time, he helped promote innovative production of fruits and vegetables.
He married Jennifer Newth of West Linn in 2003.
After retiring, he farmed to supply roadside fruit stands throughout the tri-county area.
He enjoyed travel, western movies and spending time at his vacation home in Astoria.
Survivors include: wife Jennifer of Sherwood; sister Sharon of West Virginia; sons, Michael of Portland, Timothy of Dayton and Cliff of Canby; stepchildren Marshall Martell, Jacob Curtis and Jenessa Roberti; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Jan. 15 at the Sherwood United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made directly to the National Federation for the Blind or through Alternative Burial and Cremation of Oregon, P.O. Box 202, Sherwood, OR 97140.

Mabel E. Walters
Former Newberg resident Mabel E. Walters of Beaverton died Jan. 8, 2007. She was 83.
She was born May 12, 1923, in West Union and graduated from Beaverton High School. She attended business college in Portland. She married Harry Walters in 1941; they settled in Newberg in 1949. She worked as a secretary at Newberg High School, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She enjoyed playing bridge, travel and spending time with family.
Survivors include: daughters, Norma Lee Aragaki of Newberg, Linda Campbell of Portland and Melanie Walters of Alpharetta, Ga.; brother Bill Kent of Apache Junction, Ariz.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, in 2001.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 17 at Zion Lutheran Church in Newberg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
