The Rev. Glen E. McCollister
The Rev. Glen McCollister died July 9, 2007, at his home in Dundee. He was 83.
He was born Oct. 2, 1923, in Raymond, Wash., to Ralph and Elizabeth McCollister. The family moved to the Newberg area in 1925. He served as a medic in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He attended Glad Tidings Bible Institute (now Bethany University), graduating in 1949 with a ministerial degree. He served as a pastor in the towns of Weaverville, Richmond and Arbuckle in California.
In 1950, he moved to Hawaii and married Ruth Garland one year later. They started a church in Haleiwa, on the island of Oahu, in 1951. Together they ministered in churches in Kailua, Waimanalo and Waialae-Kahala on Oahu and in Kahului on the island of Maui. In 1975 they started a preschool in Waialae-Kahala called 'Kinder Campus' which they owned and operated for the next 20 years.
They moved to Newberg in 1993. In 1995, the couple became directors of Noah's Ark Daycare and Preschool in McMinnville, where they worked until 2005. They also established the Children's Music Station preschool, which will open this September in Dundee.
Survivors include: wife Ruth of Dundee; daughter Glenda; son Gordon and granddaughter Malia.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Newberg Family Life Church.

Winnie Love
Winnie Caroline Love died July 1, 2007, at a Newberg care facility. She was 100.
She was born Nov. 14, 1906, in Prague, Okla., to William and Nettie Ferris. She attended school in Stillwater, Okla. In 1925, she married Arthur Akins. In 1944, she settled in Oregon and married Henry French. The couple made their home in Newberg. He preceded her in death in 1959. She married Norman Love in 1966; he preceded her in death in 1967.
She enjoyed fishing and sports, especially the Portland Trail Blazers.
Survivors include: many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by children Phyllis Welch, Wilbur Akins and Raymon Akins.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 2:30 p.m. today (Saturday) at the home of Ray Welch in Newberg. A private committal will follow at Valley View Memorial cemetery in Newberg.

Thomas Baggenstos
Thomas Bernard Baggenstos of Newberg died July 3, 2007. He was 55.
He was born July 20, 1951, in Portland to Bernard and Ora (Oberg) Baggenstos.
He graduated from Canby High School.
He moved to Newberg in 1973 after serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. He worked for his father in the drywall business until 1977, then went into business for himself.
In 1980, he married Laurel Ingram in Scholls.
Survivors include: wife Laurel of Newberg; sons, Christopher and Andrew of Newberg; daughter Jessica Rodriguez of San Antonio, Texas; sisters, Cecelia Cullison of Canby, Joanie Kruse of Aurora, Lisa Erb of Dayton, Janine Bruce of Brandon and Theresa Baggenstos of Beaverton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held July 9 at Mountainside cemetery in Scholls with Father Jim Nibler officiating.

Maynard M. Barr
Maynard Miles Barr of Dundee died July 1, 2007. He was 75.
He was born Sept. 17, 1931, in Decatur, Neb., to Melvin and Ruth (Miles) Barr. He attended high school in Gaston. In 1953, he married F. Carole Hudson. He served in the U.S. Air Force and worked as a manager for W.L. May Company and Oldsfield Appliances, retiring in 1993.
Survivors include: wife Carole of Dundee; son Steven of Aloha; daughter Sharon Rao of Wilsonville; brothers, John of Springfield and Darrell of Aloha; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son Scott in 1983.
A funeral service was held July 5 at the Mt. Scott Funeral Home in Portland. Burial was at Willamette National cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Providence Hospice, in care of Mt. Scott Funeral Home, 4205 S.E. 59th Ave., Portland OR 97206.

Evelyn Rodgers
Evelyn Rodgers died June 27, 2007, at a local nursing home. She was 84.
She was born July 7, 1922, in Ryder, Okla., to Jesse and Carrie (Byrd) James. She attended school in Adaire, Okla., graduating from high school in 1941.
She married Guy Rodgers in 1941 in Choteau, Okla. The couple moved to California in 1946, settling in the San Joaquin Valley.
She worked building airplanes during World War II. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Strathmore, Calif. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, making most of her children's clothes.
Survivors include: daughters, Linda Long and Carole Roscoe, both of Newberg; sister Ora'Lee Minter of Richland, Wash.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001.
A funeral service was held July 3 in Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel with Pastor Tom Frisinger officiating. Committal was at Mountainside cemetery in Scholls.

Lisa Baurer
Lisa Anne Baurer, who has family in Newberg, died of a heart attack June 27, 2007, at a Portland hospital. She was 42.
She was born in 1965 to Donald Duncan and Constance Johnson. She was raised in Maryland, returning to Hillsboro in 1984. In 1989, she married Michael Baurer.
Survivors include: husband Michael of Newberg; son Nick of Newberg; father and stepmother, Donald and Auria Duncan of Florida; mother and stepfather Constance and Lloyd Johnson of Hillsboro; stepsister Tiana Johnson of Mercer Island, Wash.; stepbrother Daniel Johnson of La Habra, Calif.; and numerous aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her brother, David Duncan of Maryland.
Private services are being scheduled. Arrangements are in care of Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Edna Myrtle Burton
Edna Myrtle Burton of Newberg died June 11, 2007. She was 89.
She was born Dec. 13, 1917, in Greenleaf, Idaho, to William and Edna (Antrim) Altig. She graduated from Greenleaf Friends Academy in 1935. She attended Portland Bible Institute from 1937 to 1938. She married Loren Burton on June 18, 1938. The couple lived in Vale and several other towns in Oregon and Idaho, where her husband served as a pastor. In 1950, they moved to Greenleaf, returning to Newberg in 1989.
She served as mayor of Greenleaf and as a member of the city council. She was involved in the PTA, 4-H and Home Extension clubs. She was also a member of the Friends church and in women's missionary and fellowship groups, as well as Sunday school programs.
Survivors include: sons, Sterling of Boise, Daryl of Newberg and Vaughan of Chicago; daughters, Lorene Hopper of Newberg, Karen Merrell of Nampa, Idaho, and Melodie Burton of Newberg; brothers, Kenneth Altig of Boise and Caleb Altig of Montana; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Loren in 2001; her parents; brothers Ralph, Robert and Francis; and sister Betty Roberts.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. July 6 in North Valley Friends Church in Newberg. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. July 14 in Greenleaf.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Greenleaf Friends Academy or to North Valley Friends Church in care of Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel, 207 Villa Road, Newberg OR 97132.

Donald L. Crete
Donald L. Crete of Newberg died June 18, 2007. He was 79.
He was born Jan 16, 1928, to August and Tillie Crete in St. Paul, and moved to Newberg in 1936, where he attended school.
He served in the U.S. Navy and worked at several jobs in the Newberg area, primarily the Westnut packing plant in Dundee.
He married Peggy Fugate in 1960.
Survivors include his wife Peggy; sons, Richard, Randy, Kelly and Chris; and one grandchild.
No services are scheduled.

Lucille D. Orcutt
Lucille Dora Orcutt died June 17, 2007, at a local care center. She was 91.
She was born Aug. 5, 1915, in Kaw City, Okla., to Ira and Pearl (Pope) Haughn. She grew up in Oklahoma. She married Vernon Orcutt on April 29, 1935, in Neosho, Mo. They settled in Oregon's Hood River Valley in 1943, living outside Pine Grove. She assisted her husband with his wallpaper-hanging business and attended the Mt. Hood Assembly of God Church.
She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include: husband Vernon of Newberg; daughters, Mary Brewer of Miami, Okla., Dora Bailey of Dundee and Linda Hazen of Willard, Wash.; 17 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held June 22 in the Idlewild cemetery in Hood River.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans in care of Anderson's Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River, OR 97031.

Keith O. Thomas Sr.
Keith Owen Thomas Sr. of Newberg died June 14, 2007. He was 80.
He was born Aug. 28, 1926, in Eugene to Owen and Eleanor (Squires) Thomas. In 1945, he joined the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He moved to the Portland area in 1984, where he worked as an apartment manager. In 1985, he married Jeanne Olsen in Surprise, Ariz. She preceded him in death in 1996.
Survivors include: sons, Raymond and Keith Jr.; daughters, Mary Jane Gibson, Gloria DeFoor and Beverley Sauser; sister Jacqulyn Phillips; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held June 20 at Avamere Assisted Living Center.

Delbert A. Denos
Delbert Anthony Denos of Dundee died June 15, 2007. He was 42.
He was born April 14, 1965, to Alonzo and Beverly (Herman) Denos in Reno, Nev. His family moved to Lake Oswego in 1979, and he graduated from Lake Oswego High School in 1983.
He attended the University of Oregon from 1983 to 1985, and graduated from Western Culinary Institute in Portland in 1988.
A resident of Dundee since 2001, he worked as a chef and restaurant manager in the Portland area until 2005, when he became general manager for Radio Shack in McMinnville and Newberg.
He was a member of the Memorial Christian Gospel Assemblies Church, and enjoyed traveling and cooking.
Survivors include: wife Carmen, son Keldon and daughter Anna, all of Dundee; father Alonzo of Carson City, Nev.; mother Beverly of Tualatin; brother Jason of Bloomington, Ill.; and sister Heide Denos of Raleigh, N.C.
His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Christian Gospel Assemblies Church, 14000 NE Hwy 240., with Rev. Thomas Valencia officiating. A private committal will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park in McMinnville.
