Shirley P. Guedon
Shirley P. Guedon of Newberg died May 25, 2007. She was 75.
She was born Oct. 26, 1931, in Portland to John and Idella (Homberger) Wohlgemuth. She graduated from Newberg High School in 1949.
On Sept. 5, 1953, she married Noel Guedon. The couple made their home in Newberg, where she worked as a medical assistant to a local doctor.
She enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
Survivors include: husband Noel of Newberg; son Mike of Newberg; daughters, Denise Guedon and Connie Williams, both of Newberg, and Donna Guedon of San Carlos, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
A celebration of life was held May 31 in Chehalem Valley Baptist Church. A graveside service was held at Willamette National cemetery in Portland.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation in care of Alternative Burial and Cremation, P.O. Box 202, Sherwood OR 97140.

Roberta A. Abbe
Roberta Adeline Abbe of Dundee died May 24, 2007. She was 81.
She was born on June 10, 1925, in Ironridge, Wis. She came west at the age of 18. She married Howard Abbe in Riverside, Calif., on Nov. 29, 1946. The couple made their home in Oregon in 1948.
She was a member of the Newberg First Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing and crafts.
Survivors include: husband Howard of Dundee; sons, Howard of Orlando, Fla., and Robert of Anaheim Lake, B.C., Canada; daughters, Donna Cronan of Newberg, Ronette Glover of Portland and Margaret Manfroi of Salem; brother Donald Boeder of Sequin, Texas; sister Viloa Sheppard of Foxlake, Wis.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
No funeral services are scheduled. Arrangements are in care of Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel.

Venola A. Clarke
Venola Avis 'Nolie' Clarke of Newberg died May 23, 2007. She was 85.
She was born June 6, 1921, in Newton, Kan., to Elton and Etna Turner. On Oct. 9, 1937, she married James Clarke. The couple made their home in Prosser, Wash., where she worked as a cook for the Prosser School District and assisted her husband in his custom homebuilding business.
She enjoyed hosting family get-togethers and racing horses in Washington, Oregon and Omaha, Neb.
Survivors include: brother Marion Turner of Nevada; sister Genny McElroy of Colorado; son Larry Clark of Newberg; daughter Joyce Johnson of McMinnville; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son Elton; two brothers; a sister and two grandchildren.
A funeral service was held May 26 in the Prosser cemetery.

Maurice H. Eide
Maurice Harold Eide, formerly of Newberg, died May 26, 2007, in Woodland, Wash. He was 74.
He was born Aug. 14, 1932, in Belle Fourche, S.D., to Orin and Clara (Hulce) Eide. His family moved to Newberg in 1947 and he graduated from Newberg High School in 1950.
He joined the U.S. Navy after graduation, receiving an honorable discharge in 1953. He worked for the Oregon State Police, Yamhill County Sheriff's Office and Northwest Marine Iron Works in Portland. Prior to his death, he worked at the Lewis River Golf Club.
He was a member of the Steamfitters Local #290. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and tinkering around his home.
Survivors include: wife Merla of Woodland; brother Sterling of Kenai, Alaska; sisters, Janet Umfleet of Newberg, Arlie Smith of Grants Pass and Judy Garland of Vashon, Wash.; six children; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today (Saturday) in the Ridgefield Church of the Nazarene, 747 Pioneer St., Ridgefield, Wash.

Lucile F. Sheppard
Lucile F. Sheppard of Newberg died May 27, 2007. She was 94.
She was born June 23, 1912, in Little Rock, Ark., to Joseph and Nina (Henderson) Lowry. Orphaned at an early age, she was raised by her grandparents and in an orphanage. She worked as a practical nurse for most of her life.
In 1929 she married Earl Adkins in Los Angeles. He preceded her in death in 1932. She married Thomas Ryan in 1934. They settled in Toledo, Ohio. They divorced in 1955. In 1956, she married Leo Ritchie. He preceded her in death in 1960. She returned to Los Angeles, where she married Hiram Sheppard in 1963. He preceded her in death in 1970.
She enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, birds and pets.
Survivors include: son Thomas Ryan of Chattsworth, Calif.; daughter Eunice Longfellow of Newberg; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by daughter Jackie Warren; three brothers and two sisters.
A private family service was held. Arrangements are in care of Macy and Son Funeral Directors of McMinnville.

Phillippe Robert
Phillippe Twinley Lynch Robert of Newberg died May 26, 2007. He was 88.
He was born Sept. 12, 1918, to Clark and Theresine Robert in Mahe, on Victoria Island in the Seychelles, where he attended school.
He worked as a refrigeration technician in the aerospace industry before serving with the British Army during World War II.
He married Carline Bouchereau on Seychelles Island on November 23, 1961. After retiring in 1980, they moved to the United States in 1992.
A Newberg resident since 2001, he was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Survivors include: his wife Carline; sons Norbert and Peter Bouchereau of the Seychelles; daughters Luncy Pretty of Australia, Julita Delpeche of South Africa, Lydia Sparks of Newberg, Liletta Wheatman of Colorado Springs, Colo., Luzette Layi of Hawaii, Rosemary Riddle of California and Jane Young of California; brother Hamilton Robert of the Seychelles; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
His funeral mass was held May 28 at St. Peter Catholic Church, with Father Jim Nibler officiating. Committal took place at Valley View Memorial Park in Newberg.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church, in care of Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel, 207 Villa Road, Newberg, OR 97132.

Dorothy C. High
Dorothy Cleo High of Newberg died May 22, 2007. She was 85.
She was born April 28, 1922, to William and Ada (Mortimer) Charlot in Huron, S.D. He graduated from Hitchcock High School in Hitchcock, S.D.
She married Harlo High in South Dakota and was a homemaker and assisted in running her husband's farm. In 1950, they settled in Rapid City, S.D. The couple moved to Newberg in 1974.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975. After his death, she worked at several local jobs, including as a cook for Friendsview Manor.
She enjoyed crocheting flowers, the ocean and spending time with friends and grandchildren.
Survivors include: son Bill of Pe Ell, Wash., and two nieces and nephews.
A cryptside service was held May 29 at Valley View Memorial Park in Newberg with Pastor Peter Blank officiating.

May 26, 2007
E. Lorraine Woodside
Edythe 'Lorraine' Woodside of Newberg died May 20, 2007. She was 82.
She was born July 22, 1924, in Oroville, Calif., to Joseph and Thelma (Kerr) Holcomb. During World War II she worked at Mare Island Naval Yard in Vallejo, Calif. After earning a degree in business, she worked for Dammasch State Hospital in Wilsonville. In 1951, she married Wesley 'Bud' Woodside.
She enjoyed traveling and went on cruises to Panama and Mexico, as well as road trips through Arizona and the West. She also enjoyed playing bunco and was active in local women's groups.
Survivors include: brothers, Charles and Ray Holcomb of California; sisters, Margery Marshall and Martha Vance of California; daughter Cheryl Woodside of Newberg; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today (Saturday) in the Promise Church - Dundee Women's Hall on Highway 99W in Dundee.

James M. Rumph
James Marcus Rumph of Lafayette died May 24, 2007. He was 85.
He was born Dec. 31, 1921, in Silverwood, Mich., to Hillard and Ethel (Thompson) Rumph. He attended school in Pontiac, Mich. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked as a carpenter and truck driver. He moved to Oregon in 1964, where he worked as a cattle breeder. In June 1965, he married Helen. The couple made their home in Newberg for 24 years, later moving to Dayton and Lafayette.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include: wife Helen of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Viewing and visitation hours are 9 a.m. to noon today (Saturday) at Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Newberg Friends cemetery with pastor Mickey Miller officiating.

Mortimer Ross
Mortimer Ross of Dundee died May 17, 2007. He was 88.
He was born Feb. 18, 1919, in New York to Michael and Margaret (Levy) Ross. He grew up in the Bronx. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1941, serving as an airplane and engine mechanic. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
He married Lucille Peterson in Great Falls, Mont., on Nov. 18, 1945. They settled in Forest Grove, where he worked for the local branch of the U.S. Post Office, retiring in 1980 after 26 years.
He was a member of the Forest Grove Elks Lodge. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and dancing. He and his wife wintered in Arizona, where they enjoyed off-roading.
Survivors include: wife Lucille of Dundee; son Dennis Ross; daughters Deanne Comfort, Brenda Seymour and Penny Mann; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. May 31 in the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Forest Grove.

Ronald J. Willard
Ronald John Willard of Carlton died May 17, 2007. He was 65.
He was born March 28, 1942, in Lebanon to Lloyd and Frances (Peters) Willard. He graduated from Lebanon Union High School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Japan, receiving his discharge in 1966. He married Loretta Copeland on Nov. 7, 1970, in Lebanon. He worked for Roseburg Forest Products for 35 years, retiring in 2004.
He was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Yamhill. He enjoyed fishing, reading, watching Western movies and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include: wife Loretta of Lebanon; son Jonathan of Puerto Rico; daughter Aimee Mayhew of Carlton; mother Frances of Lebanon; brothers, George, Duane and Leroy, all of Lebanon; and three grandchildren.
A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, followed by a memorial funeral mass at 11:30 a.m. in St. John Catholic Church of Yamhill.
