Paul L. Cappoen
Paul Louis Cappoen of Sherwood died May 14, 2007. He was 89.
He was born July 19, 1917, to Jerome and Rose (Fuhrer) Cappoen at their Chehalem Mountain homestead and grew up in the Scholls area. On March 13, 1939, he married Florence Ramsdell. The couple settled in Tigard near Bull Mountain, where they purchased a farm. He worked at Fashioncraft Furniture Co. and developed his property as a commercial farm.
After retiring he moved to a small farm outside Sherwood, where he continued to raise vegetables for small markets. He enjoyed motorcycling and playing the organ.
Survivors include: sons, Paul of Portland, Merl of Hillsboro and David of Milwaukie; daughters, Betty Smith of Federal Way, Wash., Dorothy of Clackamas and Joan of Gladstone; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Attrell's Sherwood Funeral Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sherwood Senior Center in care of Attrell's, 161195 S.W. First St., Sherwood OR 97140.

Burnett F. Ledbetter
Burnett Franklin Ledbetter of Newberg died May 19, 2007. He was 82.
He was born May 22, 1924, to Doug and Georgia (Moriss) Ledbetter in Covington, Texas. He graduated from Godley High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include: sons, Gary Ledbetter, Tom Nixon, Mike Nixon and Johnny Nixon; daughter Dianne Najera; brother Joe; sister Emma Jean Grace; 26 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren and seven great-great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by wives Virginia Wynn and Doris Nixon; three brothers, three sisters and one grandchild.
Graveside services with military honors were held May 22 at Willamette National cemetery in Portland.

John E. Barrows
John Everett Barrows of Newberg died April 26, 2007. He was 47.
He was born July 15, 1959, to Robert and Jean (Rinehart) Barrows in Ithaca, N.Y., He attended California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, Calif. He worked as a manufacturing product engineer at A-dec Inc.
He enjoyed mountain biking, sailing and spending time with family and friends. He belonged to the Universalist Unitarian church.
Survivors include: father Robert of Santa Rosa, Calif.; mother Jean Barrows of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; stepmother Janet Barrows of Santa Rosa, Calif.; brother Robert Jr. of Eugene; sisters, Elizabeth Barrows of Springfield and Judy and Paige Barrows, both of San Francisco.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today (Saturday) at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Salem, 5090 Center St. N.E. Disposition is by cremation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sierra Club or the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, in care of Attrell's Newberg Funeral Home, 207 Villa Road, Newberg OR 97132.

Faith A. Fendall
Faith Alice Fendall, who has family in the Newberg area, died May 16, 2007, in Prineville. She was 78.
She was born Dec. 5, 1928, in Wenatchee, Wash., to Dillon and Fern (Fewless) Mills. She graduated from Greenleaf High School in Greenleaf, Idaho. She attended Cascade College in Portland and worked at Emanuel Hospital. She married Phillip Fendall on Sept. 2, 1949, in Boise, Idaho.
She worked as a nurse at Providence Hospital in Portland and as a teacher's aide at Happy Valley Elementary School in Clackamas County.
She was a member of the Friends Church in Clackamas Park. She enjoyed oil painting, birdwatching and spending time with family.
Survivors include: husband Phillip of Prineville; son Steve of Oregon City; daughters, Cheryl Taylor of Prineville and Rosanne Harmon of Oregon City; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Greg and a brother.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at West Chehalem Friends Church with pastor Paul Almquist officiating.

Maudie A. Nimmo
Maudie Arletta Nimmo, who has family in Newberg, died May 9, 2007, in Flagstaff, Ariz. She was 92.
She was born March 10, 1915, to Samuel and Johannah (Stepsnik) Nimmo in Salida, Colo. She was one of the original 'Rosie the Riveters, ' working on an assembly line for Douglas Aircraft during World War II.
She enjoyed doll making and stitchery.
Survivors include: sons, Ted and John of Newberg; stepdaughter Eileen; stepson Kim; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Willamette National cemetery in Portland. A service date has yet to be announced. Arrangements are in care of Lozano's Flagstaff Mortuary, 2545 N. Fourth St., Flagstaff AZ 86004.

Bill A. Wright
Bill A. Wright of Amity died May 10, 2007, from prostate cancer. He was 62.
He was born Nov. 17, 1944, in Oroville, Calif., to Bervin and Mary Jean Wright. He and his wife, Carol, owned and operated Wright's Insurance Agency in Newberg since 1970.
He enjoyed hunting, ranching and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include: wife Carol of Amity; mother Jean; brother Doyle; sister Bonnie Wamsley; sons, Joe of Hollister, Calif., Shawn of Amity and Brad of Carlton; daughters, Dorrena of Forest Ranch, Calif., Leah of Sherwood and Pauline DeHart of Amity; and nine grandchildren.
A funeral service was held May 15 at Macy and Son Funeral Home in McMinnville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU) Prostate Cancer Research Fund, in care of Macy and Son Funeral Home, 135 N. Evans St. McMinnville OR 97128.

Wilma J. Parrish
Wilma Josephine Parrish of Newberg died May 6, 2007. She was 97.
She was born Jan. 12, 1910, in Newberg to William and Josephine (McGuire) Cornell. She attended Newberg High School, graduating in 1927.
She took business classes at Pacific College (now George Fox University) and worked as a legal secretary for the city of Newberg, office manager for Spaulding Paper Co. (now SP Newsprint) and as executive secretary for the Newberg School District.
She was a member of the Newberg Christian Church, where she played piano for the church orchestra. She married Elery Parrish on July 23, 1933.
Her husband began a career as a pastor in Newberg and Portland's West Hills. She worked as church pianist and head musician, a role she would continue to play throughout his career in the ministry.
In 1944, the couple cofounded Wi-Ne-Ma Christian Camp outside Cloverdale. From 1947-49, they pastored Parkrose Christian Church in Portland, followed by terms at the Liberty Church of Christ in Salem (1949-51) and the First Christian Church of McMinnville (1951-55). The couple also served congregations in Seaside, Klamath Falls, Athena, Oretown and El Cajon, Calif.
In 1958, the couple was appointed to lead the North Willamette Christian Evangelic Association, a ministry they held until 1968. During that time, they helped establish congregations in Portland, Milwaukie, Beaverton, Tigard and West Linn.
In 1968, they traveled around the United States before returning to Oregon, where they headed the Kern Park Christian Church of Portland and the Singing Hills Christian Church of Hillsboro. They also assisted in the Oregon Christian Convention in Turner, where they helped found Turner Retirement Homes.
In 1971, they settled on the Parrish family farm outside Newberg. Her husband preceded her in death in 1993. In 2002, she moved to Turner Retirement Home, returning to Newberg in 2005.
Survivors include: sons, Ronald and Warren, both of Newberg; daughter Edith Parrish of Sunriver; two grandsons and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.
Viewing and visitation is 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today (Saturday) and May 14-18 at Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel.
A requiem service will be held at 9 a.m. May 19 at Newberg Christian Church. A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. Internment will follow at Fernwood Pioneer cemetery in Newberg.

Florence Terwilliger
Florence Terwilliger, formerly of Newberg, died April 26 in Sun City, Ariz. She was 92.
She was born July 24, 1914, in Bethany to Lewis and Sara (Krug) Buell. The family moved to Newberg when she was 5-years-old. She graduated from Newberg High School in 1932.
She married William Terwilliger on Dec. 26, 1937. She attended the University of Oregon, graduating in 1953, and in 1956 earned a master's degree in education. She worked as a music and gym teacher in Klamath Falls and at Goshen Elementary in Springfield, where she later became principal.
She attended the Ebbert Memorial Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and volunteered as a youth group adviser. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Business and Professional Women.
Survivors include: sons, Don of Eugene, Richard of Oklahoma City, Okla., and David of Dayton, Nev.; daughter Carol Shafer of Sun City, Ariz; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. May 26 at Ebbert Memorial Methodist Church in Springfield.

Harold J. Osborn
Harold John Osborn of Newberg died May 7 at a local care center. He was 95.
He was born Nov. 22, 1911, in Dodge Center, Minn., to John and Pansy (Crandall) Osborn. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving on a number of ships at various ports on the West Coast. Following his service, he moved to California, later settling in Oregon. He worked as a house painter and later as a watch and clock repairman.
He married Vivian Hughes in California on April 15, 1938.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and oval track car racing. He was a member of the Sherwood Community Friends Church.
Survivors include: son Lawrence of Newberg; two grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife Vivian in 1993.
A graveside service with military honors was held May 11 in Willamette National cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sherwood Community Friends Church in care of Alternative Burial and Cremation, PO Box 202, Sherwood OR 97140.

Bobby J. Mays
Bobby Joe Mays of Sequim, Wash., who has family in Newberg, died April 7, 2007. He was 52.
He was born Jan. 22, 1955, in Elkhart, Ind., to Kyle and Della (Sheppard) Mays. He worked as an auto mechanic.
Survivors include: wife Elizabeth of Sequim; brother Terry of Maui, Hawaii; sister Sharron Courter of Maui, Hawaii; son James Thompson of Glendale, Ariz.; daughters, Heather Kum of Newberg and Lorna Thompson of Sequim; nephew Corbin Mays of McMinnville and niece Marcy Courter of Newberg.
A private service was held April 14 at the Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Liver Foundation.
