Samuel D. Barnhouse of Monmouth, Oregon died October 1, 2005 he was 75 years old.
Samuel was born February 12, 1930 in Friendly, West Virginia to Thomas H. and Lucy J. Richmond Barnhouse.
He joined the US Army on March 20, 1950 and was Honorably Discharged December on 1969 as Sgt. He married Shirley L. Collier February 26, 1955 in Linnton, Oregon she preceded him in death in 1996. He worked Custodial Service for Beaverton School District retiring in 1995.
Samuel enjoyed Fishing, Camping and Woodworking. Was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Monmouth.

Jessie M. Gibbons
Born in Aspen Beach, Gull Lake, Alberta, Canada on Feb. 22, 1915
Departed on Oct. 16, 2005 and resided in Independence, OR.

Jessie M. Gibbons of Independence, Oregon died October 16, 2005 at her home.
Jessie was born February 22, 1915 in Alberta, Canada. Jessie grew up at Gull Lake and attended the local schools. As a young adult she worked in her parent's store which she carried groceries and supplies as well as being a post office and telephone exchange for the local community. Her father was a stone mason and she helped him build many stone fireplaces, pillars, etc. for the Gull Lake District. She loved to play softball and was a catcher on the local Gull Lake women's team. She also played ice hockey.
She married Thomas Gibbons in 1937, and they farmed in Alberta until 1947 when they moved to Talmadge Road in Independence, Oregon where they still reside. Two children were born in Canada Maureen and Dennis and two children were born after moving to the United States, Marilyn and Brian.
After coming to Oregon and raising her family Jessie completed her basic schooling and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She was working for the Payless Drug Store in Salem at time of retirement.
Jessie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Independence and for many years was the church librarian. She liked to sew and quilt and with the ladies of the Church they sewed quilt's for others from Washington, Oregon California and Florida. When on the Mission Board she was instrumental in collecting blankets and used clean cloth and bought enough articles to fill big boxes to send to the Navaho Indians in Northern Arizona.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing, quilting and mission work with the church.

Private Vault Interment will be at Fir Crest cemetery in Monmouth.

Dorothy May Leonard Pugh of Independence, Oregon passed away December 9, 2005 at her home in Independence at the age of 84.
Born 1921 in Wilder, Kansas to Charles and Maude Leonard, moved to Oregon in 1935. She married Maurice Bremer in 1937 had 3 children Dewayne, Sandra and Michael. In 1945 she married Gary Pugh and moved to Independence in 1951, Gary passed away in 1985. Dorothy enjoyed her home, traveling, playing bridge and her family.

Harold Ernest Spears
Born in Guthrie, Oklahoma on Dec. 31, 1914
Departed on Dec. 13, 2005 and resided in Portland, OR.

Harold Ernest Spears of Portland, Oregon passed away Tuesday, December 13. The son of Beulah and Albert Spears, he was born December 31, 1914 in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
He attended grade school in Enid Oklahoma, High School in Oklahoma City and graduated as a proud Sooner from the University of Oklahoma in 1936 with a degree in business. He served in the U.S. Army as a liaison pilot during World War II having attained the rank of First Lieutenant. He married Ruth Chappell April 30, 1941 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Ruth and Harold moved to Portland in 1948 where he opened the first Dairy Queen store in Oregon on S.E. 82nd Street. After honing his business skills, he sold the Dairy Queen and opened one of the first RV businesses in Portland which became Chappell-Spears RV Center, specializing in Holiday Rambler products. He retired in 1986 after selling his RV business.
An avid water-skier and yachtsman, he was captain of the Javelin, a 40 foot power boat which cruised the Columbia and Willamette Rivers, Washington Coast and U.S. and Canadian San Juan Islands. He and Ruth were also members of the Holiday Rambler Recreational Vehicle Club, attending many rallies throughout the U.S. Their most exotic rallies took them through Mexico and Guatemala and by caravan through the U.S.S.R. (now Russia).
During their lives together, Harold and Ruth traveled extensively throughout Europe, Mexico, India, the Caribbean and 49 of the 50 states.
Harold was an active member of Montavilla United Methodist Church for 57 years. Known for his honesty, integrity, kindness and dedication to his family, he gave generously to organizations caring for those in need. He and Ruth delivered Meals on Wheels for Cherry Blossom Loaves and Fishes for over 12 years.
Harold is survived by his wife Ruth, daughters Sherilyn Spears and Barbara Spears of Portland, granddaughter Tristin Tate of Boise, Idaho, brother and sister-in-law E.R & Evelyn Spears of Stroud, Oklahoma, nieces and nephews.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to the caring professionals at Portland Providence Hospice.
A memorial service in his honor will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 19 at Montavilla United Methodist Church, 232 S.E. 80th in Portland.
