Yvonne Michael
Paulette Yvonne Michael of Lincoln City died Nov. 3, 2011.
Paulette was born in Bremerton, Wash., to Violet and Dewain Baggett. She was raised in Stockton, Calif., where she lived for most of her life. She worked for Diamond Walnut Company for many years before she retired. Her hobbies were collecting rocks and making jewelry. She loved her grandchildren very much and will be missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Yvette Cardenas and her son, Tony Michael; six grandchildren; brother Richard Baggett and sister April Aynes, both of Washington; and her father, Dewain Baggett.
Her mother, Violet Baggett of Lincoln City and sister Barbara Miller of Stockton both died earlier.
A memorial has been held in Stockton.
Arrangements by the Neptune Society.

Linda Lee Day
Linda Lee Day died at her home in Lincoln Beach, Oct. 29, 2011. She was 60.
She was born in Oakland, Calif., to William and Annabelle (Zimmerman) Lively on April 1, 1951.
There are no services planned at this time.
Pacific View Memorial Chapel is handling the arrangements.

Carole Lorraine Butzen
Carole Lorraine Butzen of Lincoln City died Nov. 7, 2011, at Lakeview Assisted Living in Lincoln City. She was 74.
Carole was born Jan. 8, 1937, in Chicago, Ill., to Alfred J. and Miriam J. (Udell) Rose.
Services entrusted into the care of Affordable Burial & Cremation Co.

Dixie Anna Ricks
Dixie Anna Ricks of Otis died Dec. 21, 2011, after heart surgery. She was 80.
Dixie was born Sept. 22, 1931, in San Francisco, Calif., to Amos and Mildred Foster.
Dixie started out making candles at Colonial Candle Co., then became a telegrapher for the railroad. She then went on to sell cars and from that worked her way up from switchboard operator to controller at the Times-Standard Newspaper in Eureka, Calif. She met Walt Ricks, a teacher, at Trinidad Elementary in 1971. They were married in 1972. She retired in 1994 and moved to Otis, Ore.
Dixie loved her T.O.P.S. friends. She liked good jazz, classical music, her beloved pug, Edgar, cats, vultures, condors and horses. She always wished she could go to Peru and see Machu Picchu. She saw every Harry Potter movie and read voraciously. She had a witty and sharp sense of humor. Dixie was not religious, but deeply spiritual.
Dixie is survived by her husband, Walter R. Ricks or Otis; her children, Jeff Wahlund of Eureka, Calif., Eric Wahlund (Cindy) of Horton, Mich., and Lisa Wahlund of Otis; her siblings, Margy Hawkins of South Carolina and Claudia Houtz of Pennsylvania; and three grandchildren.
Her first husband, Earl Wahlund, died earlier on March 10, 1994.
Per her request, there will be no service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter.

David L. Vice
David L. Vice died Dec.16, 2011, in Gleneden Beach. He was 52.
David was born Jan. 7, 1959, in Auburn, Neb., to Merlin and Norma (Gilliland) Vice. Dave graduated from Colorado State University at Fort Collins, Colo., in the field of Forestry and Land Management. He worked in the Black Hills of South Dakota; with his parents at Camper Cove near Hemlock, Ore.; and his final position was at WorldMark in Gleneden Beach.
He thoroughly enjoyed his leisure time playing his mandolin, reading, and many creative ventures.
He is survived by his mother, Norma L. Origer and stepdad Mike C. Origer of Cloverdale, Ore.; father Merlin D. Vice and stepmother Cris Vice of Pueblo, Colo; brother Darrell L. Vice of Orinda, Calif. and Darrell's son Chris; and his stepbrothers and stepsisters, Sarah, Chris, Derek, and Robin.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements are in care of Waud's Funeral Home, Tillamook.

HAZEL BEA ANDREW EPPS
Hazel was born December 22, 1916, in Wheaton, Mo. She passed away on Friday, January 15, 2016, at Graceland Adult Care Home in Newport at the age of 99.
Hazel was married to George Epps for 69 years. They resided in Miami, Okla., before moving to Seattle in 1941.
Her life was lived in faith and service to those in need. She attended the All City Fellowship in Seattle and Women’s Coterie through the years. She was an active member of the Seattle Milk Fund and local charities. She loved to cook, bake and sew. Her hands provided many meals for family, friends and church functions.
A loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to all. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, gracious spirit and Christian heart.
Hazel is survived by two daughters, Janice Epps Wilder (Raymond) of Lincoln City and Marilyn Epps Noel (Jim) of Selah, Wash.; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nena Martin of Austin, Texas.
She became a member of the Lincoln City Congregational Church in 2011.
A memorial service will be held at the Lincoln City Congregational Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016.
Remembrances can be made to the Family Promise of Lincoln County.

Thomas Rutledge
Thomas Rutledge of Welches, Ore., died peacefully in his home Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, after an 18-month battle with brain cancer. He was 64.
Tom was born on Feb. 27, 1947, to Dale L. and Zela V. Rutledge and raised in Gleneden Beach. He attended Taft grade school and high school, graduated from Salem High School and attended Western Oregon University. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1966 and served in Vietnam, attaining the rank of Lance Corporal. He returned from military service and attended Clackamas Community College before moving to the Welches area where he spent the last 40 years of his life.
Tom operated an independent logging business until his death. He loved the great outdoors and had a passion for the natural beauty of the area in which he was fortunate to live. He enjoyed fishing, especially the time he spent fishing in Alaska with his father.
Tom will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
Tom is survived by his mother, Zela Rutledge of Gleneden Beach; his wife, Kimberly Perry-Rutledge; brother Dale W. (Sherry) Rutledge of Gleneden Beach; nephew Adam Rutledge of Gleneden Beach; sister Piri (David) Pompa of Rockaway Beach; aunt Marcia (Pete) Berry of Toledo; close cousins Peggy Gesik of Lincoln City and Bonnie Kessler of Otis; and stepson Dalton Bixby.
His father, Dale L. Rutledge, died earlier.
There will be military services at Willamette National cemetery in Portland and a Celebration of Life in Welches, the dates to be determined.

James Arnold Wanless
March 17, 1925 - August 7, 2013
Jim was born in Richland Center on the family farm until in 1945 he married Evelyn. Jim was the youngest of 6 children: John, Katherine, Carolyn, Mills, Avis. Jim and Evelyn had three sons, Myron Gene, James Dean and Dennis Earl. During the years until 1960 when he moved his family to Oregon, Jim was a farmer, truck driver and cheese maker. After moving to Oregon he worked in a shingle factory in Portland, for the City of Beaverton Water Department, McCall Oil Co., and retired from BW Feed.
Jim was a volunteer fireman for the City of Beaverton for over 20 years and was honored as a Fireman of the Year during his time there, charter member of the Sherwood BPOE #2342, and a member of the Masons in Richland Center.
In 1974, Jim and Evelyn divorced. Jim met and married Janet (Hendershott) Mitchell in 1975. Jan had a four-year-old daughter, Bonnie who Jim loved as though she was his own. During their 38-year marriage they lived in Aloha and Hillsboro before moving to Lincoln City in 1991. Jim was a farmer again in Hillsboro raising beef cattle. He was very mechanical and could fix anything whether he was in the home or on the farm. After moving to Lincoln City Jim helped anyone who asked. He was always available to make emergency repair calls for people or complete a project someone requested. He drove rental cars for Robben Rent-A-Car and volunteered at the SDA Thrift Store.
Anyone who knew Jim will remember the jokes and stories he could tell with never-a-missed punch line. He will be remembered as a kind, caring, funny man who never met a stranger; friend to all.
Jim is survived by his wife, Jan of Lincoln City; son Myron (Janet) of Virginia; sons James (Kay) and Dennis (Debi) of Tigard; daughter Bonnie (Kevin) Dornfield of Connecticut. He had six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and a special friend he called his daughter, Sue (Don) Woodson of Hillsboro.
A private family memorial will be held in September. Donations can be made in Jim’s name to a charity of your choice. Make a Wish Foundations and Jerry’s Kids were charities close to Jim’s heart.

Brenda Sue Lindsey
Brenda Sue Lindsey died Dec. 15, 2011, in Newport. She was 50.
Brenda was born Jan. 23, 1961, in Crescent City, Calif., to James and Victoria (Leturno) Lindsey Sr.
Brenda was a joy to all who knew her.
She is survived by her mother, Victoria Lindsey; three brothers Jim Jr., Paul and David Lindsey; three sisters Eva, Judy and Barbara; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews all of Otis, Ore.
Her father, James Lindsey, died earlier.
A graveside service has been held.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Shangri-La Corporation in Newport, Oregon.
Bateman Pacific View is handling the arrangements.

Joseph Patrick Furlan
Joseph "Joe" Patrick Furlan of Lincoln City died Dec. 17, 2011, in Portland, Ore. He was 17.
Joe was born on Oct. 26, 1994, in McMinnville, Ore., and raised primarily in Lincoln City. He was in the 11th grade at Taft High School.
Joe loved to surf, play drums, karate, play poker, eat Taco Bell and hang out with his friends. He enjoyed watching MMA fights, paintball, being a kid and going to church. He was a member of Canby Christian Church.
He is survived by his father Donald (Pam) Furlan of Canby; his mother Catherine (Floyd) Whitworth of Otis; his brothers, Jimmy and Calvin; sisters Amanda, Keriann, Emily, Courtney and Jessica; stepmother Pam Furlan of Canby; and stepfather Floyd Whitworth of Otis.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at Camp Wi-ne-ma, 5195 Winema Road in Cloverdale.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House and Camp Wi-ne-ma.
Arrangements are being handled by Crown Memorial Center in Salem.

Joseph F. Kangiser
Joseph Frank Kangiser died Dec. 28, 2011, of natural causes. He was 93.
He was born on June 21, 1918, to Joseph and Florence (Mabel) Kangiser at their home in Rose Lodge, Ore. His father owned and operated the first sawmill in North Lincoln County up Widow Creek in Rose Lodge. He grew up learning logging and cutting and hunting and fishing from his family. During his teenage years, he helped fight fire on the Tillamook burn. Just before World War II, he was employed driving trolley cars in Portland.
He enlisted in the Navy in December of 1941, and served as an aviation machinists mate 1st class aboard the Escort Carrier USS Sangamon. He served throughout the war and received an honorable discharge in November 1945. He returned home and on May 25, 1947, married Donna Schneider in Vancouver, Wash. They bought a house and farm on Widow Creek the same year and began milking dairy cattle and raising chickens. Later he would raise beef cattle. He loved working with cattle and continued this passion the rest of his life. He returned to logging and cutting timber and did this until he retired in 1989.
He spent his time at his farm every day tending the cattle and farm related chores. He enjoyed visiting with friends and was a very social person. He was a charter member of the Elks Lodge #1886. In the early ‘70s he became a member of the Devils Lake Volunteer Fire Department and served there for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Kangiser of Lincoln City; son and daughter, Steve and Teresa; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother Marion; sister Joann Schneider; and many nieces and nephews.
His brothers, Gilbert and Lawrence, died earlier.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 21, 2012, at the Oceanlake Elks Lodge #1886, 2020 N.E. 22nd Street, Lincoln City.
