While in training at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, Oregon she met her future husband, Glen, who was a medical student working part time at that hospital. Thereafter they traveled extensively to many countries in Europe, India, Africa, and Southeast Asia. Their favorite place to vacation, however, remained in the US. They would later divorce, but remained friends.
Over the years Rick worked many jobs, but he truly loved his years in the woods logging, and then being a chef at various local establishments. He couldn't wait to whip up some pasta alfredo, or fantastic seafood for anyone ready for a great meal.
In his free time he loved the chance to get outside where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and tearing up the roadways. You could always hear him coming with his radio blasting some country tunes. He loved sports, and most of his conversations would end with a "Go Patriots!" or "Go Beavs!" He enjoyed putting a smile on anyone's face, he always had a goofy joke or a little tune to sing for any occasion. In his later years Rick set out for greener pastures and traveled around the country seeing some sights and having some fun. He had a great time enjoying his grandchildren and watching them grow.

Six grandchildren, his brother Ronald (Sheila) Bly, sisters, Janet (Brent) Langham, and Judy Jansen, many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Robert (Jim) James Clarke
Nov 7, 1942 - Oct 4, 2013
Jim passed away in Sheridan, OR, on Oct. 4th after a five-year battle with Parkinsons Disease.
Jim was born in 11-7-1942, in Astoria Oregon. He spent his childhood in Portland, attending Grant High School. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the US Navy, and was in active service from 1961 to 1963. He was promoted to Signalman, on supply ship USS Regulus. He then served in the US Naval Reserves until 1967, and was honorably discharged. He took advantage of the GI Bill and graduated from Portland State University, with a BS in Humanities. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Whittington on April 10, 1965, and they had a wonderful son, Brent Matthew Clarke. They later divorced. Jim had several jobs before purchasing the Rose Lodge Park Store, including working in the fly fishing department in Norm Thompson in Portland, and working for Travelers Insurance as a claims adjuster. Jim purchased the Rose Lodge Park Store in 1976, and remained owner and operator of the small convenience/gas station/ tackle store until about 2005. He met his future wife shortly after moving to Rose Lodge, and she opened Rose Lodge Feed Store in 1980. They spent 37 wonderful years together, mostly running the stores on a daily basis.
Jim loved the outdoors, camping, and especially fishing on the Salmon River. He was ahead of his time in now-common angling practices such as catch and release fishing, using barbless hooks, and generally being a proponent of responsible fishing. Unfortunately for some tourists, they found out the hard way that Jim did not condone catching and keeping of dark (spawning) fish.. He refused to weigh or take pictures of them when bringing them in. He was always on the salmon’s side! Jim was a common sight, along with his black labs, Toke, and later Coal, fishing well upriver from the Salmon River hatchery.
Jim is survived by his wife, Betsey Grieser-Clarke, son Brent Matthew Clarke (Jodie Throckmorton), two brothers, William D. (Twoey) Clarke, and T. Hunter Clarke. He has two lovely granddaughters, Rhaine and Rhiley Throckmorton Clarke. His parents, Robert and Peggy Clarke preceded him in death.
His family would like to thank special caregiver, Susan C. from Aging Wisely, Samaritan North Lincoln Home Health nurses, and the staff at Sheridan Care Center for his compassionate care when battling Parkinson’s disease.
