Edward 'Ed' Robison

Obit dated: March 7, 2001

Edward 'Ed' Robison, 69, Forest Grove, died Feb. 7, 2001, at Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro.

He was born Dec. 5, 1931, in Langlois.

In the 1950s he served in the U.S. Army. On Feb. 17, 1956 he married Marilyn Chase.

Mr. Robison was a 'Jack of all trades,' but most enjoyed truck driving.

In the 1970s, he worked at various jobs in and around Brookings, including as a firefighter for the U.S Forest Service, Chetco Ranger District. He retired in 1994 from service with the Master/Forest Grove School District.

He was a member of the Fellowship Community Church in Forest Grove.

He enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Robison of Forest Grove; son and daughter-in-law Chuck and Tracy Robison, and granddaughter Samantha Jo Robison, all of Forest Grove; daughter and son-in-law Linda Robison and Bob Griffeth of Hillsboro; brothers Wilton Robison of Forest Grove; Richard Hayes of Brookings; sisters Hazel Fosdick of Sun City, Ariz.; Edith Richmond of Michigan; Beatrice Thomas of Gold Beach; Jean Smith of Brookings.

Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held following cremation at the Fellowship Community Church in Forest Grove.

Elsie Magee 'Micki' Miller

Obit dated: March 7, 2001

Elsie Magee 'Micki' Miller, 92, Las Vegas, Nev., died Feb. 22, 2001, in Las Vegas.

She was born May 14, 1909, to Madison M. and Mable Fleming Magee in Mitchell, Neb., and was the second of three sisters.

When she was 10 years old, she moved to California with her family and completed her education.

In 1932, she and her sisters graduated from the nursing program at St. Helena Sanitarium. Her nursing career spanned more than four decades. She retired to Port Orford around 1980 and remained there until the death of her elder sister in 1994. She then moved to Las Vegas.

Survivors are her sister, Minnie Magee Bird, Loveland, Colo., two nieces and one nephew.

A private service was held.

Memorial Gifts may be sent in her name to Crestone College, P.O.Box 667, Mora, NM 87732-0667.

Arrangements were under the direction of American Burial and Cremation Services.

William Paul Sieg

Obit dated: March 7, 2001

William Paul Sieg, 76, Brookings, died March 2, 2001, in Ashland of pulmonary fibrosis.

He was born Feb. 2, 1925, in Edmond, Okla., to William Ralph Sieg and Alma (Morrill) Sieg.

He served in the Merchant Marines and the Coast Guard from Oct. 9, 1943, to July 26, 1946, when he was discharged in San Pedro, Calif.

He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor of science degree in animal husbandry.

He married Billie D. Sieg. They lived in various places in Maine.

He received the 1958 Distinguished Service Award from the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Sieg worked as the campaign director of the United Way of Greater Portland, Maine.

He and his wife moved to Brookings in 1998 from Eliot, Maine.

Mr. Sieg was a member of the South Coast Humane Society, the Merchant Marine veterans, Chetco Pelican Players and Freedom from Religion Inc.

He enjoyed reading, football and travel.

Survivors are his wife Billie D. Sieg of Brookings; daughters Claudia A. Risbara of Portland, Maine; Joanne William of Ashland; sons Paul L. Sieg of Portland, Maine; David N. Sieg of Ashland; sister Alma Clary of Las Vegas, Nev.; niece Carol Clary of Los Angeles; nephews Duane Clary of Las Vegas, Nev.; Walter Clary of Elk Grove, Calif.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were sisters Mildred Hammons in 1976; Pauline Dobbins in 1978 and Helen Sieg.

Nicki J. (Baldi) Carlson

Obit dated: March 10, 2001

Nicki J. (Baldi) Carlson, 58, Santa Rosa, Calif., died March 7, 2001, in Santa Rosa.

She was born Nov. 8, 1942, in Santa Rosa to Vince and Mary Baldi.

She attended Rincon Valley Elementary School and graduated from Santa Rosa High School.

Mrs. Carlson graduated from the Nursing School at Memorial Hospital.

She married Larry Carlson Aug. 29, 1964. They lived in Corvallis where Larry taught at Oregon State University.

They moved to different states while he was in the Air Force and came to Brookings where Larry worked in commercial fishing.

Survivors are her husband of Santa Rosa; daughter and son-in-law Cheryl (Carlson) Maio and Ed Maio of Brookings; mother Mary Baldi of Santa Rosa; mother-in-law Dorothy Carlson of Brookings; brother Eugene Baldi of Santa Rosa; nephew Daniel Baldi of San Francisco; grandson Ryan Carlson of Santa Rosa.

Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service today (March 10) at 2 p.m. at Lafferty and Smith Colonial Chapel, 4321 Sonoma Highway, Santa Rosa.

Visitation will be held at the chapel after 10 a.m. Saturday.

Donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 1940 E. Deere Avenue, Suite 100, Santa Ana CA 92705.

James Herbert Nelson

Obit dated: March 10, 2001

James Herbert Nelson, 85, Brookings, died March 3, 2001, at his home of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 17, 1916, in La Moille, Minn., to Maude and Herbert Nelson.

He attended Winona County High School and St. Mary's College in Winona, Minn. He attended Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland.

Mr. Nelson practiced law in Portland, Coos Bay, Bandon and Brookings. He moved to Brookings in 1971.

He was a member of Winona Cathedral Catholic Church in Winona, and Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Brookings.

He enjoyed flyfishing and fished all over the world. He owned the Steelhead Lodge on the banks of the Klamath River before it was washed away by a flood.

Survivors are sister Margaret White, North Carolina; friends Ruby Jones, Brookings; Danny Callahan, Salem.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Arrangements are under the direction of Litty's Funeral Directors.

Lila Mae Samuelson

Obit dated: March 14, 2001

Lila Mae Samuelson, 82, Crescent City, died March 10, 2001, in Crescent City.

She was born Jan. 21, 1919, in Benson, Minn. She lived her early years in Bellingham, Wash., and moved to Del Norte County in 1958.

During her later years, she lived at the Crescent City Convalescent Home.

She attended Smith River Baptist Church and was a lifetime Elks Lodge widow member.

Survivors are children Michelle Lee Samuelsen-Smith of Crescent City; Carolyn A. Samuelsen-Davis of Yuba City, Calif.; David M. Samuelsen and Thomas A. Samuelsen, both of Modesto, Calif.; Bobbie Wiltfong of Loomis, Calif.; Merna Clark of Ferndale, Wash.; Leonard LaPlante of Redmond; friend Ruth Anderson Clay and her son Rick Lee Henderson; brother Dale Harriman of Crescent City.

Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her husband Olaf Samuelsen; brother Duane Harriman; sisters Mildred Davis and Dorothy Little.

Family and friends are invited to a blessing of the grave on Saturday, March 17, at 10 a.m. at the Smith River District cemetery.

A fellowship at Smith River Baptist Church will immediately follow the blessing.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel, Crescent City.

Bernell 'Lee' Goodin

Obit dated: March 14, 2001

Bernell 'Lee' Goodin, 71, Amity, died March 11, 2001, at Oakwood Country Place in McMinnville.

He was born Dec. 28, 1929, in Arbuckle, Calif., to William Vyrl and Grace Katherine Holly Goodin.

He was raised and educated in California. He graduated from Central High School in San Francisco. He moved to Washington for a short time, then to Cannon Beach Junction where his family owned and operated a gas station. He served in the U.S. Navy.

He worked as a gravel and logging truck driver for Van Vlett Logging Co., then he became a tree faller.

He married Lois Crain on Feb. 9, 1951, in Vancouver, Wash.

They moved to Smith River in 1954 where he started a career as a sawfiler. In 1955, he worked at South Coast Lumber Co. in Brookings as a sawfiler. He also worked for Simonson Lumber Co. in Smith River.

He lived in Reedsport and Toledo before moving to Cornelius in 1984. He moved to Amity in 1994 and worked for Stimson Lumber Co., retiring in 1995.

He was a member of the American Legion and a life member and past exalted ruler for the Elks Lodge. He was a Mason in Reedsport and he belonged to the Eagles Lodge in Cornelius. He was a member of McMinnville Senior Citizens. He enjoyed golf and bowling.

Survivors are his wife of Amity; daughters Holly Center of Collierville, Tenn.; Janine Jefferies of Brookings; son Bill Goodin of Forest Grove.

Also surviving are five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Tuesday. Funeral services will be today, (March 14) at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Macy and Son, 135 N. Evans, McMinnville.

Interment will be at Ocean View cemetery in Astoria.

Memorial contributions may be made to Casey Eye Clinic c/o Macy and Son, 135 N. Evans, McMinnville, OR 97128-4682.

Arrangements are under the direction of Macy and Son Funeral Directors, McMinnville.
