Alice Elaine Ransom Ross

Alice Elaine Ransom Ross, 78, of Medford, died March 9, 2006, in Medford of complications of Alzheimer's.
She was born June 17, 1927, in Brookings, to Edwin and Freida Steineke Ransom.
Mrs. Ransom was a member of the pioneer Ransom/ Steineke families who were early settlers in the Brookings area. Being very proud of her heritage, she traced the genealogy of her family to the 1600s.
She married
Ezra L. "Red" Ross, Aug. 22, 1943, at Smith River, Calif., while her husband served at the U.S. Coast Guard station.
The couple lived in various locations near the California-Oregon border following her husband's work at the California quarantine stations. Much of their later years were spent living in Brookings, where they enjoyed gardening and beachcombing. They moved to Ashland in 1989, living there until October 2003 when Mr. Ross died.
Mrs. Ross was a homemaker all her life. She enjoyed having various baked and canned goods on hand for everyone to enjoy. Her cookie jar was always full, her family remembers. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, sewing, reading, gardening and genealogy of her family.
Survivors include sons Michael Ross and wife Susan of Salem, Stephen Ross and wife Barbara of Ashland; brother Wallace Ransom of Medford; grandchildren Debby Ross Emerson, Betsy Ross Acarregi, Matthew Ross and Brian Ross. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother and a sister.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 17, at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1811 Ashland St., in Ashland.
Clarence Norman Rykken

Clarence Norman Rykken, 67, of Baker City, died March 10, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Health Services, of natural causes.
He was born Nov. 23, 1938, in Ashland, to Clarence T. and Beryl Rykken.
He lived in Ashland until he graduated from high school in 1956, and joined the U.S. Forest Service.
He worked for the U.S. Forest Service for a few years before joining the U.S. Army as an engineer. He was in the Army from 1962 to 1964, then returned to the Forest Service where he worked until his retirement in 1995.
He met Layle Bostwick and her daughter Kim; they married
in 1966 in Ashland and moved to Union Creek.
The couple later moved to Brookings, where they lived until 1997 when they moved to Baker City with his mother Beryl.
Survivors include his wife, Layle; daughter Kim; son-in-law Randy; grandchildren Kelly and Steven. Also surviving are two sisters.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 17, at First Presbyterian Church in Baker City. Pastor Susan Barnes will officiate. A reception will follow at Rogers Hall in the church.

Clarence Norman Rykken

Clarence Norman Rykken, 67, of Baker City, died March 10, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Health Services, of natural causes.

Gladys Ruth Pettinger

Gladys Ruth Pettinger, 86, of Harbor, died March 9, 2006, at Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City, Calif., of natural causes.
She was born Feb. 4, 1920, in Roselle, Mo., to Guy Greenleaf and Carrie Clyde Standley Lowry.
Mrs. Pettinger was raised and schooled in Fontanelle, Iowa. She graduated from Fontanelle High School in 1939.
She married
Lloyd Reginald Pettinger Oct. 26, 1943, while he was stationed in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Oklahoma City, Okla.
After World War II, the young couple moved to Depoe Bay, where Mr. Pettinger worked as a commercial fisherman and Mrs. Pettinger served as Cub Scout den mother.
In 1961 the Pettingers moved to the Brookings area. Mrs. Pettinger enjoyed bowling and was a league member in the 1950s and 1960s. She was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Ladies Auxiliary.
She was very artistic and liked cooking and canning. She loved quilting and made quilts for the Veterans Administration. She took great pride in being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, her family said.
Survivors include her sons Lloyd R. Jr. and wife Sarah Pettinger, David and wife Wendy Pettinger, all of Harbor, Brad and wife Tami Pettinger of Brookings; daughter Patty and husband Randy Long of Norfolk, Va.; sister Alverda "Babe" Tierney of Alton, Ill. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd in 2000; son Greg in 1987; five brothers; four sisters.
A celebration of her life will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 16, at Living Waters Foursquare Church, 1136 Fifield St., in Brookings. A graveside service will follow at W.J. Ward Memorial cemetery.
Remembrances may be made in her name to a charity of the donor's choice.

Shirley K. Simmons Rollins Anders

Shirley K. Simmons Rollins Anders, 76, of Medford died March 3, 2006, at Merle West Medical Center of natural causes after surgery.
She was born Nov. 15, 1929, in Canadian, Texas, to Quimby L. Simmons and Fern Cornelius Simmons.
Mrs. Anders grew up in Yuma, Ariz., and Ramona, Calif.; she graduated from high school in Ramona.'
In 1947, she married
Willard Rollins and the two moved to the Rogue Valley and started a family. That marriage eventually ended.'
She married
Rafe Anders in 1972, in Reno, Nev. He preceded her in death in 1988.'
Mrs. Anders was very active and held numerous different jobs in the field of public relations, including secretary for Medford School District, hostess and banquet manager for the Rogue Valley Country Club. She later lived in Brookings, where she worked to start a First Federal Savings and Loan branch.'She was employed at Ship Ashore Resort in Smith River, Calif., for 13 years as a banquet manager.' While there she met the cast of Star Wars during the filming of "Return of the Jedi." Following that, she worked as activities director for R-Wild Horse Ranch.'She also worked for Living Epistles, an apparel store in Klamath Falls, where she was known as "Nanna Squirrely."' Shirley's final position before retirement was as a pantry sales associate offering samples to customers at Harry and David Country Village in Medford
She was raised in the Southern Baptist faith. Her favorite church was Calvary Chapel in Klamath Falls.
Mrs. Anders loved the outdoors, including hunting, fishing and camping. She was said to be an exceptional cook and enjoyed doing arts and crafts.'She was an accomplished oil painter.'She was very social and enjoyed being with people, especially her family.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Dale and Mary Rollins of Mosier; daughters and sons-in-law Kathy and Steve Gooch of Medford, Julie and Bob Langfield of Klamath Falls; stepdaughter and husband Jane and John Malm of Gregory, S.D.; grandchildren Renee, Rafe, Joel, Tracey, Guy, Adam, Amy, Rachel, Bobby, Laura, Jenny, Kristie and Katie; stepfather and wife Joseph and Marge Stoker of Encinitas, Calif.; stepmother Mary Cahoon of Medford, brothers and sisters-in-law Quimby and Janice Simmons of Hemet, Calif., Jerry and Jackie Simmons of Montana; brother Pat Stoker of La Mesa, Calif.; first husband and friend Willard Rollins of Medford. Also surviving are 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; numerous stepbrothers and stepsisters, nieces and nephews.'
She was preceded in death by her second husband, Rafe Anders; son Rafe Anders Jr.; and her parents.
A memorial tribute service will be at 1 p. m. Saturday, March 18, at Calvary Chapel, 1201 S. Alameda Ave. in Klamath Falls. Pastor Bob Langfield of Calvary Chapel will officiate.

Bettie Doris Currie LeClere

Bettie Doris Currie LeClere, 86, of Brookings, died March 6, 2006, at a local care facility, of natural causes.
She was born April 29, 1919, in Eugene, to Joseph Alexander and Mary Ethel Vincent Currie .
Mrs. LeClere was raised and schooled in Eugene.
She married
Joe Prociw in Springfield in 1937, and they raised three children together.
She married
Leonard LeClere about 1953, and they also raised three children together.
Mrs. LeClere was employed as a waitress at Seymour's Restaurant in Eugene for a number of years before working at the University of Oregon. She retired from University of Oregon in 1975, after being employed as the housekeeper for the university president for approximately10 years.
After retirement, she worked closely with the Springfield Police Department to develop a Neighborhood Watch Program. She attended a number of classes and received various commendations from the police department for her involvement.
Mrs. LeClere was an accomplished seamstress and very good at needlework. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and cross-stitch and won first prize for her work at the Curry County Fair some years ago. She also liked to hand-decorate ceramics and was very skilled at doing custom, hand-drawn designs. She loved to read and was a fan of Louis L'Amour. She also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and specialized in growing irises.
Survivors include son Larrie and wife Beverly Prociw of Roseburg; daughter Bettie Gaye Ridl of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter Donna and husband Jim Blunt of Brookings; daughter Cecelia and husband Layne Worlton of Brookings; son Dwayne LeClere of Kodiak, Alaska, son Tim and wife Pamela LeClere of Winston; twin brother Bert Currie of Anaconda, Mont. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sisters Wilma Roberts, Letta Bloom; brothers Arthur, Keith, and Ralph Currie.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., today (March 11), at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St., Brookings.
Private entombment will be held later at Springfield Memorial Gardens in Springfield.
Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mary Evanich

Mary Evanich, 84, of Brookings, died Feb. 27, 2006, in a car accident in Willets.
She was born Aug. 3, 1921, in Yugoslavia to Jenny and Andrew Evanich.
Mrs. Evanich lived in Brookings the last 25 years. During that time she traveled a great deal.
Survivors include daughters Arlene R. Smith of Las Vegas, Nev., Joan C. Cain of Brookings, Mary Jane Langdon of Las Vegas; sons John E. Langdon of Dalton Gardens, Idaho, Tom Langdon of Signal Hill, Calif., Chad Langdon of La Mirada, Calif. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Arnold E. Krone

Arnold E. Krone, 72, of Florence died March 1, 2006, at his home of cancer.
He was born Jan. 18, 1934, in Sisseton, S.D., to Ernest and Elizabeth Krone.
His family moved to Glendale, Calif., in 1952.
He worked at Universal Studios until he bought his first flower shop in Glendale. He and his wife Edy purchased Virginia's Flowers in Alhambra, Calif.
In 1994 the couple moved to Eugene. In 1995, after his wife's death, Mr. Krone moved to Brookings to be near his sister and her family. While in Brookings he worked nearly 10 years at Fred Meyer.
In the fall of 2005, Mr. Arnold moved to Florence due to health reasons and to be near his family.
Mr. Krone is said to have had a great personality and had many friends. He enjoyed the outdoors and was very thankful for each day with his family and friends, and the time they spent together, they said.
Survivors include sister Alta White of Florence; brother Alan and his wife Candace Krone of San Diego; sister-in-law Phyllis Krone of San Diego; niece and her husband Debbie and Jimmie Simpson of Florence; nephews Jordan and Jarret Krone both of San Diego.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Edy in 1995.
A private service was held.
