Russell J. Mason
March 31, 1908 - April 15, 1999

PHILOMATH - Russell James Mason, 91, of Philomath died Thursday at Good Samaritan Hospital.

He was born in Osakis, Minn., to Clinton and Bertha (Kidwell) Mason. He married Ann Marie Bernier 70 years ago, on Aug. 14, 1928, in Virginia, Minn.

The Masons lived in International Falls, Minn., and Springfield. They moved to Philomath in 1972, after he retired.

Mr. Mason worked for Weyerhaeuser Co. in Springfield for many years. He enjoyed reading, woodworking, camping and spending time with his family.

Surviving are wife Ann; daughters Barbara Myers of Portland and Shirley Mason of Philomath; brothers Kenneth and Harry Morgan; and four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Lawn Memorial Park cemetery in Corvallis. Bishop Kenneth Steiner will officiate. McHenry Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Clara M. Iverson
Nov. 11, 1912 - April 13, 1999

Clara Mildred Iverson, 86, of Albany died Tuesday.

She was born in Welcome, Minn., to Ruben and Anna (Bast) Stussie. Her first husband, Glen Zollinger, died in 1961. She was married to Alvin Iverson, and he died in 1988.

Mrs. Iverson lived in Reno, where she worked until age 70 for Tiny's Waffle Shop. She moved to Albany in 1990.

She belonged to the Missionary Alliance Church and especially enjoyed cooking.

Surviving are daughter Kathleen Arnold of Albany; stepdaughter Claire Fillipini of Loyalton, Calif.; and grandchildren Barbara Espinoza and Robert and Kristilyn Arnold. There are four great-grandchildren.

Brothers Roland and Walter and sisters Lillian, Luella, Alma and Laverne died earlier.

There will be no public services. Burial will be at Mt. View cemetery in Reno, Nev. AAsum Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Ellen L. Pruitt
Sept. 2, 1914 - April 14, 1999

CRAWFORDSVILLE - Ellen L. Pruitt, 84, of Crawfordsville died Wednesday.

Born in Hamilton, Ala., she was the daughter of Robert and Lola (Kerr) Stidham. She grew up in Jasper, Ala., where she married Elbert Pruitt on Nov. 24, 1930.

The Pruitts lived in Crawfordsville for 18 years and in Ontario, Calif. for 30 years. Mr. Pruitt died in 1990. Mrs. Pruitt recently returned to Crawfordsville.

She was an avid gardener.

Surviving are son Howard of Depoe Bay; sisters Stella Bass of Cucamonga, Calif., and Ruth Gaskey of Sweet Home; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Daughter DeLois Strickland died in 1995; brothers George and Robert Stidham and sister Bernice Smith died before Mrs. Pruitt.

Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel in Sweet Home. Mrs. Pruitt's funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral chapel, with Pastor Terry Medina officiating. Burial will be at Union cemetery, Crawfordsville.

Contributions in her name may be made to the American Heart Association.

Edith Weaver Turner
Jan. 5, 1914 - April 14, 1999

Edith Weaver Turner, 85, died Wednesday at her Albany apartment.

She was born in Pau Pau, Ill., to Clark and Mary (Larrabee) Weaver. She moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., at age 7 and earned a degree in English from Colorado College in 1934.

She was an English teacher and a legal secretary before her marriage.

She married Mortimer M. "Mike" Turner Sept. 25, 1945, in Denver, Colo. They lived in Kansas City, Mo., and moved to a farm near Climax Springs, Mo., in 1971. Mr. Turner died in 1993, and Mrs. Turner moved to Independence in 1995, to be with her son and granddaughter.

She was an avid reader and was especially interested in family history.

Surviving are sons Michael of Missouri and Paul of Independence; and grandchildren Sean, Stephen and Helen. Brothers "Doc" and Jim Weaver and sister Dorothy Smith died earlier.

Private services will be held. DeMoss-Durdan Garden Chapel is handling arrangements.

Jack Lynn Bouvia
Jan. 26, 1950 - March 28, 1999

Former Albany resident Jack Lynn Bouvia, 49, died of cancer March 28 in Falls City.

He was born in Lebanon and grew up in Albany. His parents were Richard and Ruth (Dunham) Bouvia.

He moved to Bozeman, Mont., where he married Vicki Brischoss in 1971. They were divorced in 1977, and Mr. Bouvia returned to Albany. He moved to Falls City in 1993.

A general construction carpenter for 25 years, Mr. Bouvia was proud of his Native American heritage and participated in cultural activities. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and being with family.

Surviving are daughter Jessica Bouvia of Ogden, Utah, and Amy Elam of Great Falls, Mont.; mother Ruth Alldridge of Albany; brother Rick of Falls City; three grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of Jack Bouvia's life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at the Albany Eagles Club, 127 Broadalbin St. N.W. His brother will scatter his ashes as Mr. Bouvia requested.

Contributions in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of Dallas Mortuary Chapel, 287 S.W. Washington St., Dallas, Ore. 97338.

Thomas E. Johnston
March 6, 1944 - April 8, 1999

Thomas Elwood Johnston, 55, of Albany died April 8 at Albany General Hospital.

Mr. Johnston was born, grew up and was educated in Prairie City. His parents were Cecil Elwood and Sylvia Alice (Pierce) Johnston.

He moved to Albany and worked for several plywood mills from Eugene to Sutherlin in Oregon and Stevenson to Lacey in Washington, but he always returned to Albany.

He attended Lane Community College.

Mr. Johnston enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and traveling in California, Nevada and eastern Oregon. Surviving are son Linsey of Weatherford, Okla.; daughters Chrissy Johnston, serving in the Army, and Lisa Johnson and Mia Johnston, both of Albany; mother Sylvia Jensen of Albany; brother Glen Johnston of Albany; and grandsons Joshua, Dylan and Gary, all of Albany.

His father and daughter Lori Johnston died earlier.

A memorial service will be at noon Saturday in Eleanor Park, Albany.

Joy A. Haygood
Jan. 6, 1914 - April 13, 1999

Joy A. Haygood, 85, of Albany died Tuesday at Albany General Hospital.

She was born in Minnesota to James and Rachel (Heaton) Niles. She married Earl V. Jondahl in 1932 in Minnesota, and they lived in California before moving to Philomath in 1947.

Mr. Jondahl died in 1980, and she had married Myrl Haygood. He died several years ago.

Mrs. Haygood was a member of the Benton County Historical Society and the Philomath First Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing and antiques.

Surviving are sons Earl Jondahl of Corvallis, Don Jondahl of Pleasanton, Calif., Winton Jondahl of Battle Ground, Wash., and Terry Jondahl of Philomath; daughters Aileen Gellatly of Philomath and Sharon Hobson of Woodburn; brothers James Niles of Portland and Dwight Niles of Cambridge, Minn., and sister Maureen March of Vancouver, Wash. There are 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Haygood's funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the McHenry Funeral home Chapel in Corvallis, with Pastor Alan Stensvad officiating. Burial will follow at Twin Oaks Memorial Park in Albany.

Karen Kay Kramer
Sept. 3, 1943 - April 12, 1999

JEFFERSON - Karen Kay Kramer, 55, of Jefferson died in Portland Monday from a sudden illness.

She was born in Vanport near Portland and lived as a girl in the Los Angeles area. She moved to Scio in 1958 and graduated from Scio High School in 1961.

She moved to Sweet Home in 1962 and to Jefferson in 1969.

Mrs. Kramer was a homemaker and had worked as a caregiver for elderly persons.

She belonged to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Albany and liked reading scriptures. She also liked the outdoors, animals and gardening, and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

Surviving are son Wade of Keizer; daughters Penny Kramer and Lori Kramer, both of Crescent City, Calif.; companion Jim Hinds of Millersburg; parents Kenneth and Pearl (Stienke) Rickel of Albany; sister Robin Katzenstein of Albany; and brother Kerry Rickel of Scio. There are six grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Willamette Memorial Park in Millersburg, with Pastor Arnold Abel officiating.

Constance Schmidt
March 25, 1912 - April 13, 1999

LEBANON - Constance C. Schmidt, 87, of Lebanon died Tuesday at Providence Benedictine Nursing Center in Mt. Angel.

She was born in Helena, Mont., and had lived in Washington and Mt. Angel. She married Peter Schmidt on April 20, 1937.

The Schmidts moved to Lebanon in the 1940s, and ran Schmidt's Shoe Repair. Mr. Schmidt died in 1962.

Mrs. Schmidt had worked for several years in housekeeping at Lebanon Community Hospital. She liked gardening, knitting, going for walks, playing the piano and doing art work. She especially enjoyed the Oregon Coast.

Mrs. Schmidt belonged to St. Edward's Catholic Church.

Surviving are daughters Marie James of London, Ark., Bernice McGrory of Albuquerque, N.M., Ruth Paquin of Bloomington, Ill., Phyllis Mayer of Las Vegas and Theresa Floten of Portland; son Joseph of Lebanon; and 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, with recitation of the rosary beginning at 7 p.m., at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Edward's Catholic Church, followed by burial at the Lebanon IOOF cemetery.

Contributions in Mrs. Schmidt's memory may be made to Providence Benedictine Nursing Center, 540 S. Main St., Mt. Angel, Ore. 97362.

Ruth Thissell
Dec. 9, 1905 - April 13, 1999

Ruth Thissell, 93, of Corvallis died Tuesday in Waldport.

She was born in Seattle to Frank and Mollie (Sandell) Hurt. She moved to the Alsea Valley at age 9.

She married Frank Thissell in Toledo and for 10 years they lived on the homestead where their three children were born. They moved to the Corvallis area 27 years ago.

Mr. Thissell died in 1976.

Mrs. Thissell belonged to the Oakville Willamette United Presbyterian Church. She was known for her generosity, her beautiful quilts and embroidered pillow cases and for the applesauce she liked to make and share. She especially enjoyed flowers.

Surviving are sons James "Bud" of Tidewater, and daughter Dorothy Hughey of Corvallis; brothers Jimmie Hurt of Waldport and Francis Hurt of Dallas; and 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Daughter June Phillips died in 1977 and two sisters died before Mrs. Thissell.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakville Willamette United Presbyterian Church, with Pastor John Carpenter officiating. Private burial will be at Oakville cemetery.

Contributions in Mrs. Thissell's name may be made to the Memorial Building Fund at Oakville Willamette United Presbyterian Church.

Doris C. Williams
Jan. 4, 1917 - April 13, 1999

LEBANON - Doris C. Williams, 82, of Lebanon died Tuesday at Lebanon Community Hospital.

She was born in Guelph, N.D., the daughter of Harry and Minnie (Rodine) Young. She graduated from high school in Oakes, N.D., and attended nursing school in South Dakota.

She married John Daleon Dec. 22, 1940, and he died in 1947. In 1949 she moved to Lebanon and married Francis F. Williams Aug. 16, 1952.

Mrs. Williams had worked as a nurse in South Dakota and at the old Lebanon Hospital. She belonged to St. John's Lutheran Church, the Westside Extension Group and the Seventeeners Club.

She enjoyed quilting, writing in her diary and working number puzzles. She liked flowers, especially dahlias.

Surviving are husband Francis; sons Derrel Dale of Lebanon and David Williams of West Linn; daughters Lois Engel of Camas, Wash., and Barbara Van Kleek of Hillsboro; sister Thelma Thomas of North Loup, Neb.; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Son Stephen Williams died in infancy; sister Florence Monroe died before Mrs. Williams.

Viewing will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, with Pastor M.L. Natterer officiating. A private burial service will be at the Lebanon IOOF cemetery.

Contributions in Mrs. Williams' name may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Building Fund or to a charity of the donor's choice. They may be sent in care of Huston-Jost Funeral Home, 86 W. Grant St., Lebanon, Ore. 97355.
