Stanley James Forest
November 21, 1920 - December 17, 2004

Stanley James Forest, 84, of Salem died Dec. 17 of cancer.
He was born in Lyons to Walter Ward Forrest and Emma Long Sandberg Forrest. He was raised in the Fox Valley area and attended school in Mill City. He married Florence Lucas in Vancouver, Wash., on Sept. 5, 1940, and they raised five children.
As a teenager, he worked at various car lots in Salem, fostering his love of cars and mechanics. He drove log trucks until entering the U.S. Army during World War II, serving honorably and receiving the Asiatic Pacific Service medal, Good Conduct medal and a Victory medal for his service in Japan.
He built and delivered saw mill equipment throughout the United States and Central America, becoming vice president of Salem Equipment. He later worked for Gerlinger Power in West Salem.
He was an avid reader of anything non-fiction and expanded his many skills, becoming a master mechanic and perfecting the art of finding and restoring antique cars. He was a cofounder of the original Salem Chapter of the Horseless Carriage Club of America and the Willamette Valley Model T Ford Club. He was also an honorary life member of the Mid-Columbia Car Club. He became a member of the Santiam Memorial Hospital in 1951.
He lived in The Dalles for six years before moving to Salem this year.
He loved animals, aircrafts and motorcycles, and his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond; and two infant sons.
Survivors include his wife; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Michael Fritz of The Dalles; daughters, Sheryl of Jefferson and Susan of Albany; sons, Stanley Ward of Lyons and Scott of Keizer; sisters, Wardine Jepsen of Stayton and Marie Christensen and Anita Limbeck, both of Keizer; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Ronald Magee

Ronald Simms Magee, 68, of Aurora, died June 8, 2006, of complications from cancer.
He was born Aug. 29, 1937, in Corpus Christi, Texas, one of three children of Rupert and Alice Magee.
He graduated from North Salem High School in 1955 and played softball on a Salem town team. He served in the Air National Guard and was a firefighter in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.
In his career, he owned three cosmetology schools, one in downtown Portland, another in Vancouver, Wash., and one in Beaverton. He retired in 2001.
An avid golfer, he was a member of Willamette Valley Country Club for many years and served on its board.
He enjoyed fishing in Alaska and vacationing in Black Butte, Palm Desert and Hawaii. He was a devoted Oregon Ducks fan and enjoyed drift trips down the Deschutes River.
He was also a member of the Oregon Senior Association and the Willamette Valley senior group.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Rahna; daughter Kelli and husband Rick; and son Gregg and wife Marti; and five grandchildren.
A private family service will be held. A gathering for family and friends will be announced later.

Dr. E. Colton Meek Jr.

Dr. E. Colton Meek Jr., of Wilsonville, died on June 17, 2006 at the age of 86. No service will be held at the request of the deceased.
Dr. Meek was born on June 20, 1919 in Portland, ore. He was a graduate of Franklin High School, Oregon State College and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He married E. Jean Ward in 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a pathologist at the Physicians and Surgeons Hospital from 1954 until retiring in 1977.
Dr. Meek is survived by his wife, Jean Ward Meek; and daughters, Marjorie and Laura Meek. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Ward Meek, in 1975.
Remembrances may be made to Oregon Public Broadcasting. River View cemetery Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.

Frank R. Mahony

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on June 20, 2006 at St. Cyril Catholic Church in Wilsonville for Frank Mahony of Tualatin. He died on June 17, 2006 at the age of 100.
Mr. Mahony was born on Dec. 23, 1905 in San Francisco, Calif. He married Vivian Scoles on Dec. 31, 1938 in Santa Barbara, Calif. He worked as a business executive for McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Company.
Mr. Mahony is survived by his wife, Vivian Mahony, of Tualatin; son, Frank M. Mahony; daughter, Rita Perez, of Tualatin; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Cornwell Colonial Chapel is in care of arrangements.

Philip P. Dana

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at Willamette National cemetery for Philip Dana of Wilsonville.
He died of congestive heart failure, after a long battle with Alzheimers and cancer, on June 16, 2006 at the age of 82.
Mr. Dana was born in Seattle, Wash. on October 31, 1924. He was a Marine Corp. veteran in World War II and received the Purple Heart. In 1947 he married Jean Rogers and had four children. Jean passed away in 1987.
He married Arlene Everett in 1989 and they moved to Charbonneau where he was active in the men’s golf club and was a member of the Sweet Sixteens golf group. He was known as the candy man because he would leave candies on the tees for the next group to find.
Mr. Dana worked for Times Litho in Forest Grove and then at Schultz, Wack, Weir in Portland as a sales representative.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene Dana, of Wilsonville; sons, Philip Dana III and Gordon Dana, of Hillsboro and Manning; daughters, Kevin Ness and Patricia Smith, of Eugene and Hillsboro; step-daughter, Linda Sauvain, of Aloha; step-sons, Tom Sauvain and Charles Sauvain, of Canby and Lake Oswego; brother, Marchall Dana, of Portland; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Remembrances may be made to Alzheimers Research at OHSU and Legacy Hospice in McMinnville. Cornwell Colonial Chapel is in care of arrangements.

Edward `Butch' Wonacott

HUBBARD -- Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002, in Wilsonville Cornwell Colonial Chapel for "Butch" Wonacott, of Hubbard. He lost his battle with cancer on March 17, at the age of 49.
He was born Dec. 8, 1952, to Chet and Wanda Wonacott and lived most of his life in the Woodburn-Canby area. He attended Woodburn High School and started working in the construction field following his 1971 graduation.
He formed his own company, Butch's Custom Concrete, then later worked for Axis Curb Co., Walling Sand and Gravel in the 1990s until staring his own home construction company, Mr. B's Construction in 1998.
He excelled at arm wrestling, and in Las Vegas competition won the rank of third in the world in the light-heavyweight division. He was a cat lover and enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his wife Nicolette (Landeen), whom he married in 1990; his stepdaughter and stepson, Gina and Paul Pagano; a sister, Franke Hoeffling of Coburg; two nieces and many friends; and his cat, Smokey. His parents preceded him in death.
Remembrances may be made to the cancer division of Doernbecher Children's Hospital; North Shore Animal League; or to a charity of your choice.

Trygve F. Dahle Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Community of Hope Church in Wilsonville for Trygve F. Dahle Jr., of Tualatin.
He died July 26, 2002, at the age of 73.
He and his wife moved to Tualatin in 1998 from Windsor, Calif., to live closer to their children.
He had retired early for medical reasons after working for the Defense Contract Administration in Los Angeles. Following his retirement he and his wife, Thelma, traveled in their motor home all over the United States, Canada and Mexico.
He also enjoyed camping with his family, working in his shop, golf, singing, gardening and photography.
His wife, Thelma, died in 1999. He is survived by his daughters, Helen Armstrong of Redmond and Sharon Crowson of Vancouver, Wash.; sons, Dan of Wilsonville and Tryg of Bozeman, Mont.; sisters, Adelene Dahle of Los Angeles; Margaret Zugschwert of St. Paul, Minn., Norma Knudsen of Elbow, Saskatchewan, Canada; brothers, Olof of Grand Terrace, Calif., and Ronald of Granora, N.D.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Cornwell Colonial Chapel in Wilsonville is in care of arrangements.

Carl W. Poss

Carl Winfrey Poss, who lived in the Portland Metro area 48 years, died July 24, 2002. He was 72.
He was born Feb. 13, 1930, in Atlanta, Ga., and attended Decatur High School, Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia.
He was a real estate broker and land developer.
Survivors include his wife, Natalie; daughter and son-in-law Wendy and Loren Fitting; daughter, Melanie Poss; son, John; and three grandchildren, Katie, Beth and James Fitting.
Funeral services were held July 24, at St. John Episcopal Church. Riverview Abbey was in care of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.

Jay L. Perry

A Wilsonville resident since 1972, Jay L. Perry died Oct. 2, 2002, at the age of 80.
He was born Feb. 19, 1922, at Roosevelt, Utah.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he served as a quartermaster on PT boats.
He attended trade school for electronic engineering and systems analysis and retired from the U.S. Postal Service following a 30-year career.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church and enjoyed hunting, reading and farming.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy, whom he married in 1945; sons Stephen and Gregg, both of Hilo, Hawaii; a sister, Dorothy Girt of Coos Bay; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life was held Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Cornwell Colonial Chapel in Wilsonville.

Edith E. Davis

Funeral services for Edith Elizabeth Davis are planned for 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at Cornwell Colonial Chapel in Wilsonville. She died Oct. 5, at the age of 89.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at the chapel.
Mrs. Davis was born Nov. 3, 1912. She married Palmer L. Davis in 1935, and he preceded her in death in 1990.
She was a homemaker and had attended nursing school.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Steve Ryan of Wilsonville; granddaughters Tiffany Ryan-North of Hollywood, Calif., and Heidi and Coree Ryan, both of Wilsonville; and three grandchildren.

Walter W. Labahn

Sherwood resident Walter William Labahn died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at a Newberg hospital. He was 80.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sherwood.
He was born Jan. 23, 1922, in Orange, Calif. He moved with his family to Sherwood in 1929, where he attended school, graduating from Sherwood High School in 1940. He helped his father operate the family farm until 1945 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army.
He served in the Occupation Forces in Japan during World War II.
Following the war he went to Evansville, Ind., where he lived two years before returning to Sherwood, where he again helped on the family farm. He began his own business, known as Labahn Nursery, which he operated until 1987 when he retired.
He was a member of the Oregon Association of Nurserymen and St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he had served as congregational secretary for 27 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling, and spending time with his family.
He married Loretta H. Steffen in San Luis Obispo, Calif. in June 1945, and she survives. Also surviving are his sons, Carl of Oregon City and Loyal of Sherwood; a brother, Charles of Rockaway; a sister, Ada Johns of Salem; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A daughter, Stephanie Labahn preceded him in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran World Relief or American Heart Association, or a charity of one's choice.
