Austin L. Morris
December 11, 1919 - March 5, 2006

Austin L. Morris, 86, of Tualatin died March 5.
He was born in Hebron, Neb. He was a farmer and owned a farm in Scotts Mills until 1992, when he moved to Salem. He lived in Salem for two years before moving to Tualatin to be near his family.
He married Irene Gorenson in 1954. She preceded him in death in 1991.
Survivors include his sisters, Lillian Brink and Oma Mae Frerichs.
A graveside service was at 3 p.m. today at Evans Valley cemetery. Remembrances: Tualatin United Methodist Church. Arrangements: Young’s Funeral Home.

Georgia Marie Holt
February 20, 1918 - March 2, 2006

Georgia Marie Holt, 88, of Mount Angel died March 2.
She was born in Branson, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlon Holt.
Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Bianchi of Silverton; sister, Maxine Robinson of Camarillo, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services at set for 1 p.m. tomorrow at Canejo Mountain Memorial Park, Camarillo, Calif. Arrangements: Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton.

Beatrice M. Impecoven
February 28, 1911 - February 28, 2006

Beatrice M. Impecoven, 95, died Feb. 28.
She was born in Amherst, S.D., to Arthur and Edna Patterson. She married Arthur Impecoven and they moved to the Silverton area. She was loved and respected.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Survivors include her son, Grant; brother, Lloyd Patterson; two grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
No services were held.

Evert F. Aldridge
May 10, 1934 - March 2, 2006

Evert F. Aldridge, 71, of Woodburn died March 2.
He was born in Lamar, Colo. He received his Charter Life Underwriters designation and had worked as a life insurance agent for Prudential Insurance Company for 25 years before retiring. He lived in Longview; Monument, Ore., where he had a ranch; and Vancouver, Wash. He moved to Woodburn Senior Estates in 1989.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a state wrestling champion and a professional baseball player.
He was a member of the Woodburn Christian Church. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, rose gardens, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He swam the Columbia River in September 2005.
He married Betty Huddleston on March 8, 1957, in Vancouver, Wash.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Linda Atwell of Silverton, Beth Molzahn of Newberg and Kandi Savage of Cove, Ore.; son, Evert Aldridge Jr. of Pleasant Hill; brothers, John of Keizer and Russell of Washington; sisters, Rosemary Buker of Vancouver, Wash., and Doris Horn of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life is set for 11:30 a.m. tomorrow at Woodburn Christian Church. Private graveside services were at Belle Passi cemetery, Woodburn. Remembrances: Woodburn Christian Church. Arrangements: Cornwell Colonial Chapel, Woodburn.

Alice E. Shipp
January 8, 1911 - March 9, 2006

Alice E. Shipp, 95, of Scotts Mills died March 9.
She was born in Myrtle Point, Ore., to Arthur and Caroline Train. She graduated from Myrtle Point High School in 1928.
She married Milton Cooper in 1928. They had three children.
She moved to Portland in 1942 to work in the shipyards with her second husband Mike Conley. They moved to Silverton in 1944, where they owned and operated the Silverton Green Houses until 1948. They moved to Crooked Finger in the Scotts Mills area in 1948, where she started raising strawberries in 1949. She retired from the strawberry fields in 1998 a the age of 87. She and Mike had two children. Mike was killed in 1950 working as a timber faller.
She married Talmade Shipp in 1951.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Talmade; and sons, David and Jimmy Cooper.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary Ann Lucas of Eugene and Kathleen Wilson of Silverton; son, Patrick Conley of Scotts Mills; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton.

Gertrude Theresa Sander
November 25, 1919 - February 26, 2006

Gertrude Theresa Sander, 86, of Mount Angel died Feb. 26.
She was born in Tillamook. She received a teaching certificate from the Sisters of St. Mary at Mount Angel. She taught at several Catholic schools around Oregon and later at Portland Public Schools. She moved to Portland around 1980 and most recently lived in Mount Angel.
Survivors include her brothers, Clarence “Sandy” of Hillsboro, Father Bernard OSB of St. Benedict, Father Timothy OSB of Alaska and Father Placidus OSB of Canada; and sisters, Beatrice Schmidt of Portland and Theresa Schmidt of Eugene.
A funeral Mass was held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Portland. A graveside service was at Sacred Heart cemetery, Tillamook. Arrangements: Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton.

Darlene Hettwer
October 21, 1925 - January 26, 2006

Darlene Hettwer, 80, of Cottage Grove died Jan. 26 of emphysema.
She was born in Bemidji, Minn., to Marvin and Grace (Olson) Reed. She moved to Silverton in 1953, where she grew up and attended school. In Silverton, she worked at George’s Café, The Silverton Theater, the cannery and in the hop fields. During World War II, she worked in the shipyard. She married Eugene J. Hettwer on Oct. 2, 1944, in Silverton. They moved to Lorane in 1950 and later to the Cottage Grove area.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and had a great love for animals and people. She enjoyed German shepherds and trained horses.
She was preceded in death by her husband. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Sheryl and Gary Davis and Linda and Levi Smith, all of Cottage Grove; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Cheryl Hettwer of Portland and Rick and Polly Hettwer of Cottage Grove; sons, Randy and Ron Hettwer, both of Cottage Grove; sister, Cleone Beutler of Silverton; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service is set for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel, Cottage Grove. Private cremation was held. Remembrances: Cottage Grove Humane Society.

Concepcion M. Arellano
February 19, 1935 - January 28, 2006

Concepcion M. Arellano, 70, of Mount Angel died Jan. 28.
She was born in Alamo, Texas.
She married Jesus Arellano on June 6, 1950.
She worked as a migrant farm worker for many years. She and her husband moved to Oregon in 1973. She was a homemaker, a devoted wife, a mother and a grandmother.
She loved to sew, cook and have her family around her. She was very involved with her church, Iglesia Pentacostes of Woodburn, where she served both as a deaconess for several years and loved to sing.
Survivors include her husband; sons, Lupe of Woodburn, Jesus Jr. of Beaverton and Jose of Mount Angel; daughters, Maria Almada of Mount Angel, Maria Silva of Gervais and Enedina Garza of Woodburn; brothers, Baldomero Alejandro and Juan Perez, both of Mount Angel, Jubentino Perez of Salem and Eusevio Perez of Mexico; sisters, Francisca Vasquez and Carmela Ramirez, both of Mexico; 22 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton. Interment was at Calvary cemetery, Mount Angel.

Rev. Henry William LaCerte
April 11, 1933 - January 25, 2006

The Rev. Henry William LaCerte, OSB, 72, of Salem died Jan. 25. He was in the final stages of renal failure, having been on dialysis for the last six years.
He was born in Collyer, Kan. He became a Benedictine monk in 1953 at Holy Cross Abbey in Canon City, Colo., and pronounced his Solemn Vows on July 11, 1957, followed by his ordination to the priesthood in 1959.
He was an exceptional student throughout his life; he earned a Doctorate of Sacred Theology, Doctorate of Canon Law, Doctorate in Theology and a Doctorate of Ministry. He attended the International Benedictine Colegio di San Anselmo in Rome, and the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Canada, for his theological and Canon Law degrees. Later in his career he earned his final degree in ministry from San Francisco Theology Seminary, San Francisco, Calif.
He taught moral theology at Mount Angel Seminary for 30 years and served as Academic Dean for 15 of those years. His last position was Chaplain of Marylhurst University, Lake Oswego and Professor of Theology. His ministry during these years was to the sick and dying, participating in The New Beginnings groups, and counseling those healing marriages and separations.
Father Henry was present in St. Peter’s Square when Pope John XXIII was announced and later was among the students invited to be the choir for John XXIII at the Basilica of St. Paul’s Outside the Walls. It was at this mass that John XXIII announced there would be a Vatican II Council, an experience which greatly influenced Father Henry’s subsequent ministry.
He is survived by his sister, Jeanne LaCerte of Bethesda, Maryland; and caregiver, Ann Satterwhite of Silverton.
Funeral services were at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1410 Pine St., Silverton. Burial was at Miller cemetery, Silverton. Arrangements: City View Funeral Home.

Allan Joseph Schwartz
October 8, 1949 - January 25, 2006

Allan Joseph Schwartz, 56, of Silverton died Jan. 25.
He was born in Queens, N.Y. He and his significant other, Jacki, were together for 16 years after meeting in Hawaii.
Schwartz was a gifted musician, playing the guitar, banjo and keyboard. He was also a professional chef.
Survivors include his significant other, Jacqueline Clark of Silverton; parents, Leonard and Geraldine Schwartz of Delray Beach, Fla.; and sister and brother-in-law, Susan and David Moskowitzof New York, N.Y.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements: Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton.
