Henderson M. Martens
The funeral service for Henderson M. Martens will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Perl Funeral Home Chapel in Medford. The Rev. Marvin Hein, retired, and Pastor Pete Slusher of Community Bible Church of Central Point, will officiate.

Mr. Martens, 89, of Central Point, died Aug. 16, 2002, at Glass Barn Foster Care Home in Central Point.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Bible Church Building Fund, 500 N. 10th St., Central Point, OR 97502.

He was born Jan. 5, 1913, in Balko, Okla., to Daniel and Anna (Just) Martens. On May 16, 1937, in Shafter, Calif., he married Mabel Shultz, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 2000 from Woodland Hills, Calif.

Mr. Martens owned and operated a service station for 40 years.

He was an active member of Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Woodland Hills, Calif., for more than 50 years, holding various offices, teaching Sunday School and working with teenage boys.

Mr. Martens collected fire fighting and gas service station memorabilia.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Gloria Cannady, Central Point; a son, Ward, Woodland Hills, Calif.; three sisters, Alice Wiebe and Inez Kliewer, both Fairview, Okla., and Mary Helen Hein, Fresno, Calif.; a brother, Harry, Fairview, Okla.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Arthur Christian Stabler
Arthur Christian Stabler, 80, of Medford, died Saturday (Aug. 24, 2002) at Hearthstone. A private service will be held in California. Interment will be in Ogburn cemetery, Shingletown, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504, or Rogue Valley Gideon’s South Camp, P.O. Box 1811, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Dec. 31, 1921, in Redding, Calif., to Dr. Arthur Stabler Sr. and Gladys Stabler. On April 25, 1985, in Lake Tahoe, Nev., he married Lou P. Ingram, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1986 from Atlanta.

Mr. Stabler was an executive for Georgia Pacific Corp. in Atlanta.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1951, achieving the rank of boatswain first class.

Mr. Stabler enjoyed hunting, golfing and fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Diane C. Tilley, Citrus Heights, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Sabra Ingram, Eagle Point; a stepson, Joseph Ingram, North Las Vegas; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Singleton in 1976; and a brother, Bud Lee.

Arnold Stanton Johnson
Arnold Stanton Johnson, 89, of the Rogue Valley Manor in Medford, died Aug. 21, 2002, at Rogue Valley Manor Special Care Center. No service is planned.
He was born Jan. 21, 1913, in Glenn’s Ferry, Idaho, to Edward and Edna Johnson. He attended the University of Arizona at Tucson and the University of Southern California. On Feb. 22, 1962, in Pasadena, Calif., he married Constance "Connie" Martois, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley Manor in 1988.

Mr. Johnson was a registered civil engineer.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Johnson enjoyed computers and writing.

Survivors in addition to his wife, include two sisters, Virginia Clow, Southlake, Texas, and Evelyn Westling, Fresno, Calif.

Leon (Lee) Miller
The memorial service for Leon (Lee) Miller will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Medford. Mr. Miller, 78, of Central Point, died Friday (Sept. 27, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

The Rev. Joyce DeGraaff, host pastor, and John Braund will officiate. Interment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 85 S. Holly St., Medford, OR 97501.

Mr. Miller was born June 20, 1924, the son of George and Hazel Miller in Kewanee, Ill., and grew up in Galva, Ill. On Dec. 14, 1947, in the University of Minnesota Chapel in Minneapolis, he married Arlys Attwooll, who survives.

Following schooling in Galva, he attended the university until joining the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a bombsight and autopilot repair technician with the 5th Army Air Corps, 2nd Squadron, 22nd Bomb Group in the South Pacific.

After the war, Mr. Miller returned to the University of Minnesota, then became an aeronautical structural engineer with McDonnell Aircraft Corp., which later became McDonnell-Douglas Corp. in St. Louis, Mo.

During his 40 years with the company, he was a leader in the wing design of the F4 Phantom, DC10, and redesign of the wing of the British Harrier. He retired in 1987.

The Millers moved to Central Point in 1988. While in St. Louis, Mr. Miller was a member of the Ritenour Camera Club. His other interests were football and gardening. He held the Life rank in Boy Scouts of America and was a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a Scouting fraternity.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Medford, and he was an ordained elder.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Nancy Whatley, Mimbres, N.M.; a son, Gary Miller, Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Joyce Carstens, Cincinnati, Ohio; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Fred Thomas Owen Sr.
The funeral for Fred Thomas Owen Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ascension Lutheran Church in Medford. The Rev. Charlie Marsolini of the First Church of the Nazarene in Medford will officiate. Interment will be in Eagle Point National cemetery.

Mr. Owen, 81, of Medford, died Friday (Sept. 27, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Oregon Humane Society, 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford, OR 97501-1518.

He was born Oct. 14, 1920, in Wellington, Kan., to Samuel and Katie (Ruggles) Owen. On Oct. 5, 1941, in Las Vegas, he married Winona Jacob, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1961 from La Mirada, Calif.

Mr. Owen was the founder of Medford Ready-Mix Concrete Company in 1996. He was retired.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was an Army Air Corps golf instructor at Maxwell Field in Alabama.

He was a current member of the Rogue Valley Country Club, and was a member of the Downey Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Owen enjoyed golf and was a top qualifier as an amateur in the Los Angeles Open in 1959. He enjoyed shooting pool, deep-sea fishing and traveling.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Fred T. Jr., Gold Hill, and Kelly, Medford; a daughter, Sharon Schnakenberg, Atlanta; a brother, Carl J., Tarzana, Calif.; a sister, Martha Vandenburgh, Mount Angel; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Tommy; and a brother, Sammy.

David Ward Amick
The memorial service for David Ward Amick will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Ascension Lutheran Church in Medford. The Rev. Bob Larson will officiate.

Mr. Amick, 48, of Medford, died Wednesday (Sept. 25, 2002) at his home.

He was born July 2, 1954, in Vallejo, Calif., and lived most of his life in Boise, Idaho. He graduated from Caldwell High School in 1972, and owned and operated Dave Amick Construction for many years until retiring. He moved to Medford in 2001, and he enjoyed gardening, reading, remodeling, traveling, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; a son, Aaron Amick; a stepdaughter, Natalie; his mother, Maurine; his grandmother, Rose Renfro-Carroll; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ward Amick, and a son, Greg Telford.

There will be no visitation.

Holly Shiree Cicero
The memorial service for Holly Shiree Cicero, 28, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Reese Creek Christian Center, 900 Butte Falls Road, Eagle Point. Tom Reimer will officiate.

She died Tuesday (Sept. 24, 2002) near Butte Falls.

She was born Feb. 9, 1974, in Springfield. She married Nicholas Cicero, who survives, April 9, 1999, and they moved to Eagle Point six months ago.

She worked at various retail jobs and enjoyed hiking and biking.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Jordan Cicero, Eagle Point; her father, Monte Wallace, Springfield; a brother, William Cardin, Eugene; a sister, Brenda, Eugene; a grandfather, Harry Wallace, Springfield; and a grandmother, Essie Mae, Springfield.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Leonard Oliver Howlett
Private services will be held for Leonard Oliver Howlett.

Mr. Howlett, 90, of Medford, died Tuesday (Sept. 24, 2002) at his home.

He was born Nov. 23, 1911, in Clatskanie, the son of Sosia (Burris) and William B. Howlett.

On Aug. 10, 1940, in Chehalis, Wash., he married Frances Moore, who died in 1995. He had lived in the Rogue Valley since 1962.

He worked as a heating and air-conditioning control specialist for Honeywell Corp. and Clean Air Corp. until he retired in 1976.

He was a U.S. Army master sergeant in Okinawa during World War II. While living in Portland, he was a volunteer firefighter.

He was a member of the American Legion in Portland for 50 years, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 1833 and a member of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union.

He enjoyed music and steam engine trains.

Lawrence Clyde Hill
The memorial mass for Lawrence Clyde Hill will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, Ashland.

Mr. Hill, 87, of Ashland, died Thursday (Sept. 25, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born March 1, 1915, in Bakersfield, Calif., the son of Sally and Walter Hill.

On Oct. 12, 1946, in San Jose, Calif., he married Dorothy Chesebro, who survives. He moved to Ashland in 1992 after he retired.

He worked in the banking industry for 25 years, and most recently he was a real estate broker in the San Jose area.

He served in the ordnance division of the U.S. Army during World War II.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son-in-law, Michael C. Hankal of Maui, Hawaii, and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Michal Anne Branson, and a sister.

Carl Francis Kellenberger
The memorial service for Carl Francis Kellenberger will be at 3 p.m. today at Tigard Christian Church. Cliff Berger will officiate.

Mr. Kellenberger, 82, of Tigard, formerly of Medford, died Friday (Sept. 20, 2002) in Portland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, P.O. Box 19024, Seattle, WA 98109, or Providence St. Vincent Hospice, 9340 S.W. Barnes Road, Suite M, Portland, OR 97225.

He was born Aug. 30, 1920, in Portland. He attended Jefferson High School in Portland and Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif. On Feb. 22, 1944, in Portland, he married Gene Forrest, who died in 1998. They lived in Medford from 1959 to 1970.

Mr. Kellenberger worked in transportation and warehousing in Portland, La Grande and Medford. He owned Yellow Cab Co. in Medford. He retired in 1985.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Kellenberger was a member of the Medford Rotary, the Rogue Valley Country Club and the Elks.

He enjoyed golf, fishing and travel.

Survivors include two daughters, Candy Miller, Medford, and Karen Tate, Portland; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Randy.

Lyle Marie Klaus
The memorial service for Lyle Marie Klaus will be at 1 p.m. today at Walton’s Colonial Mortuary in Susanville, Calif. A memorial service for friends and family in Oregon will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Klaus, 56, of Janesville, Calif., formerly of the Rogue Valley, died Friday (Sept. 20, 2002) at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, Nev.

She was born Aug. 19, 1946, in Medford, to Roy and Marvel Watson. She attended public schools in Talent and Ashland and graduated from Ashland Senior High School in 1964.

Mrs. Klaus and her husband, Don, were foster parents for more than 26 years. They took care of as many as 250 children over the years.

She enjoyed spending time with children, gardening and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Don, Janesville; two sons, Gerald, Janesville, and Shawn, Seattle; her mother, Marvel Watson, Eugene; two sisters, Linda Gordon and Patti Rossman, both Eugene; and two brothers, Bob Watson, Ashland, and Dennis Watson, Eugene.

Arrangements: Walton’s Colonial Mortuary, Susanville, Calif.
