Carolyn Carhart
A graveside service will be held for Carolyn S. Carhart at noon Tuesday at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford, with Chaplain Paul Hagedorn of Providence Hospice officiating. Inurnment will be in Hillcrest.

Mrs. Carhart, 52, of Medford, died Thursday (Aug. 8, 2002) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Huntington’s Disease Society of America, 158 W. 29th St., Seventh Floor, New York, NY 10001.

She was born May 10, 1950, in Colorado Springs, Colo., and lived in the Rogue Valley for 26 years after moving from Ingelwood, Calif.

She was a Montessori pre-school teacher for 10 years.

She enjoyed home Bible study, her family, and her cat, Ben.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Wilkinson, Medford; a son, Tyler M. Carhart, Medford; her mother, Dorothy McCarty, Medford; a brother, Ronald McCarty, Aurora, Colo.; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Dennis Miller
The service for Dennis Raymond Miller will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lundberg’s Funeral Home in Grants Pass, with the Rev. Don Carlson officiating. A graveside service follows at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Miller, 61, of Grants Pass, died Thursday (Aug. 8, 2002).

Memorial contributions made be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Kidney Foundation in care of Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home, 141 N.W. C St., Grants Pass, OR 97526.

He was born Feb. 20, 1941, in Sioux City, Iowa, a son of Francis "Bud" and Frances Miller. He moved with his family to San Diego, Calif., where he graduated from Mission Bay High School in 1959. He was an accomplished athlete and Eagle Scout.

He enjoyed golf and played fast-pitch softball. He was inducted into the Oregon Softball Hall of Fame. He and his wife, Judy, owned race horses and enjoyed the track.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Daniel Miller, Salem; seven daughters, Debbie Conklin, Walla Walla, Wash., Dori Harris, Richland, Wash., DeAnna Dickerson, Grants Pass, Mindi Noland, Klamath Falls, Daralyn Hurst, Grants Pass, Kim Hoyle Mainville, Ohio, and Trisha White, Medford; his mother, Frances Miller, Grants Pass; a brother, Jim Miller; and 19 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and brother Gary.

Alice Yeager
No service is planned for Alice Ruby Yeager. Mrs. Yeager, 85, of Medford, died Friday (Aug. 9, 2002) at her home.

She was born Nov. 12, 1916, in White Earth, N.D., a daughter of Thomas and Bertha Moore. On May 27, 1946, in Washington, she married Edelbert Yeager, who died in 1989.

She ran concessions at amusement parks for many years, including the seal pool at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, Calif. She enjoyed gardening, canning and traveling.

Survivors include two sons, John Thomas Yeager, Trail, and William Delbert Yeager, Medford; a daughter, Sharon Mae Carpenter, Medford; two brothers, Thomas Moore, Stanley, N.D., and Emmett Moore, Tioga, N.D.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, two brothers and one sister.

James ‘Jim’ Edwin Metcalf
A private celebration of the life of James "Jim" Edwin Metcalf will be held at a later date.

Mr. Metcalf, 51, of Eagle Point, died Tuesday (Aug. 6, 2002) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Foundation Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born on Feb. 19, 1951 in Springfield, Mass. In 1987, in Dillon, S.C., he married Sally LaFreniere, who survives.

He lived in the Rogue Valley since 1991, moving from North Carolina.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a technician.

Mr. Metcalf was an Eagle Scout who enjoyed motorcycles, his pets and Jimmy Buffett.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, a son, his father, a brother, two sisters and six grandchildren.

Leo F. West
No service is planned for Leo F. West, 77, of Medford, who died Tuesday (Aug. 6, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born on Jan. 16, 1925, in Hawthorne, Calif. In 1947 in Los Angeles, he married Mary Lou Kent, who survives.

Mr. West lived in the Rogue Valley all of his life. He was supervisor in the State Employment Office in Medford, retiring after 10 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years in World War II. He also served in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening and was a member of Non-Commissioned Officers Association.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Sue Hunt, Medford; a son, Bob, Medford; a sister, Lorraine Weber, Arvada, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.

Carley ‘Carl’ Helton
A private family service will be held for Carley "Carl" Helton, 81, of Eagle Point, who died Tuesday (Aug. 6, 2002) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 31 West Sixth St., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born on Feb. 28, 1921, in Richmond, Va., son of James and Mary Helton. On Jan. 29, 1941, in Harmon, Va., he married Birchie Dales, who preceded him in death.

He lived in the Rogue Valley since 1972, moving from Ohio.

He started working in the coal mines of Grundy, Va., at the age of 12. After serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, he was a truck driver for the Teamsters.

Mr. Helton enjoyed fishing and hunting and was an avid supporter of casinos.

Survivors include four daughters, Judy Merrill-Mead, Eagle Point, Jackie Jones, Central Point, Melba Jones, Pittsburg, Calif., and Deborah Holt, Central Point; two sons, Allen, Clear Lake, Calif., and Richard Steven, Medford; one brother, Gene, Florida; a sister, Juanita Davis, Grundy, Va.; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

John Robert Rossi
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date for John Robert Rossi of Medford.

Mr. Rossi, 84, died Tuesday (Aug. 6, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 16, 1917, in Sacramento, Calif., the son of Alexander and Gertrude Rossi.

On Jan. 9, 1949, he married Catheryn Ferrera, who preceded him in death in 1997.

Mr. Rossi served in the U.S. Army and worked for three years in the Pentagon. He was secretary to the president of the Pacific Rail Road for 40 years.

Mr. Rossi was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Church, Knights of Columbus, Senior Aces and Friendship Group.

The couple moved to the Rogue Valley from Daly City, Calif., in 1989.

Mr. Rossi enjoyed photography — especially digital photography — as well as golf and classical and opera music.

Survivors include a companion, Mary Korpa; a brother, Leonard Rossi, Sacramento; and one nephew.

Charles William ‘Chuck’ Clemmer
The memorial service for Charles William "Chuck" Clemmer took place at Monday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Silverton.

A private interment at I.O.O.F. cemetery in Central Point is planned.

Mr. Clemmer, 71, of Mt. Angel, formerly of Medford, died Sunday (Aug. 3, 2002) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland.

Mr. Clemmer was born Dec. 12, 1930, in Hartford, Kansas, the son of Bill and Ruth (Andersen) Clemmer.

He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1941 and over the years lived in Jacksonville, Shady Cove and Central Point. In 1994 Mr. Clemmer left Southern Oregon and moved to Kansas.

On Feb. 14, 1953, in Medford, he married Aileen Sellar, who survives.

Mr. Clemmer was a graduate of Jacksonville High School. He and his wife worked for many years at yard maintenance in Medford.

The couple moved to Mt. Angel in 2000, where Mr. Clemmers worked at Wilco Farmers gas station.

Mr. Clemmer was an active Bible school teacher. He enjoyed Bible study, spending time with his family and outdoor activities.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Charleen Worden, Enterprise, Sharon Hanscom, Mt. Angel, and Ellen Mann, Loomis, Calif.; his mother, Ruth Clemmer, Reno; two sisters, Eva Berton, Medford, and Barbara Hammersley, Reno; and three grandsons.

Bon Silene Pattee
A celebration of life for Bon Silene Pattee will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at The Bridge Retirement Center in Grants Pass.
Mrs. Pattee, 92, of Grants Pass, died Saturday (Aug. 10, 2002) at the retirement center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grants Pass YMCA in care of Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home, 141 N.W. C St., Grants Pass, OR 97526.

Survivors include three sons, Tom, Grants Pass, Bob, Amherst, Mass., and Steve, Winona, Wisc.; and seven grandchildren.

Arrangements: Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Lydia P. Blood
Lydia P. Blood, 100, of Medford, died Monday (Aug. 12, 2002) in Medford. Interment will be in Mount Moriah cemetery in Kansas City, Mo.

She was born Oct. 21, 1901, in Cole Camp, Mo., the daughter of Louis and Mary Gerken. On April 4, 1931, in Kansas City, she married Sidney H. Blood, who died in 1986.

Mrs. Blood and her husband owned and operated the Fish Lake resort from the 1930s to the 1950s.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church since she moved to Oregon in 1931. She enjoyed golf, going to flea markets and collecting antiques.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.

Mary Jane Myers
A graveside service for Mary Jane Myers will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Siskiyou Memorial Park in Medford. The Rev. Jim Clifford will officiate.

Mrs. Myers, 86, of Central Point, died Sunday (Aug. 11, 2002).

She was born Mary Jane Beebe on Jan. 15, 1916, in Central Point, a daughter of Kenneth Weldon Beebe and Gladys Mildred Kindle, pioneer farmers of Central Point. On Feb. 21, 1948, she married John E. Myers, who died in 2000.

Mrs. Myers was raised on the Beebe Farm and graduated from Central Point High School in 1933.

She and her husband purchased the old Kubki Ranch below Ruch and built a large home. She worked as a teller and officer at First Federal Savings and Loan for 32 years.

Survivors include a brother, Kenneth Beebe, Central Point.

Elizabeth Virginia Carlisle
A private service for Elizabeth Virginia Carlisle will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Carlisle, 85, of Grants Pass, died Saturday (Aug. 10, 2002) at Royale Gardens Health Care Facility in Grants Pass.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lovejoy Hospice, 939 S.E. Eighth St., Grants Pass, OR 97526.

She was born on Sept. 16, 1916, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She graduated from Inglewood High School in Los Angeles in 1934. Her family moved to Stockton, Calif., in 1935, where she attended art school.

On Oct. 11, 1937, she married Emmett Earl Carlisle. They divorced in 1959.

For more than 25 years, she worked as head cook at La Salette Care Facility in Stockton. After her retirement, she moved to Grants Pass to live with her son and daughter-in-law.

She enjoyed art, sewing, knitting, crocheting and folk and square dancing. She also enjoyed driving her 1952 MGTD.

Survivors include her son, Gordon, Grants Pass; a daughter, Marjorie Lichtenberg, Perry, Utah; a sister, Marjorie Brooking, West Point, Calif.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Nanette Burnside, and two brothers, Irl Burnside Jr. and William Robert Burnside.
