Francis ‘Bob’ Shaughnessy
The memorial service for Francis "Bob" Thomas Shaughnessy will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at the Palmerton Park, Rogue River. Robert Jacobs will officiate.

Mr. Shaughnessy, 78, of Rogue River, died Friday (July 26, 2002) at his home.

He was born on Feb. 10, 1924, in Nevada City, Calif., a son of Francis and Blanch Deal Shaughnessy.

On Sept. 29, 1946, in Nevada City, he married Jean M. Kelley, who survives.

Mr. Shaughnessy lived in the Rogue Valley for the past 26 years, moving here from Concord, Calif.

He was a dairy route deliverer for Umpqua Dairy, and served in the U.S. Army.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and reading.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Bob, Sacramento, Calif., and Stephen, Rogue River; a daughter, Deborah Has, Myrtle Point; two sisters, Leila Rasmussen, Alameda, Calif., and Betty Biaggi, Grass Valley, Calif.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, in Medford.

Clara ‘Biles’ LeVeille
No service is planned for Clara "Biles" LeVeille, 100, of Rogue River, who died Friday (July 19, 2002) at a foster care home in Grants Pass.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a donation be given to the donor’s favorite charity.

Mrs. LeVeille was born July 1, 1902, in Zearing, Iowa, to Charley and Myrtle May (Kinzer) Thomas.

At age 7, she traveled from Zearing by covered wagon to Neosho, Mo., and later on to Burlington, Ark., where she attended public schools.

In 1919, she married Henry Clay Biles in Harrison, Ark.

In 1924, she moved to Gold Hill from Sanger, Calif.

She was a homemaker and managed the Old Wallers Inn in Rogue River until she retired. She then worked at the Seniors Center in Rogue River for several years.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting lap robes for the elderly.

She was a member of Rogue River Seniors, Home Extension Unit in Foots Creek and the Flower Club in Foots Creek.

Survivors include two children, Robert L. Biles of Grants Pass and May Brecount of Rogue River; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two children, Ross Biles and Bonnie Jean Biles Ayers; three sisters; and two brothers.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Ollie Lorene Ross
No service is planned for Ollie Lorene Ross, 92, of Medford, who died Tuesday (July 24, 2002) at the Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

Interment will be in the Jacksonville cemetery.

She was born June 16, 1910, in Grandsile, Texas, to Thomas and Maud Bradberry. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1951. On Sept. 22, 1967, in Reno, Nev., she married John Ross, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Ross was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Pat Cuviello of Klamath Falls and Sam Garcia of Medford; two sons, William Evans of Lometa, Texas, and Virgil Evans of Bastrap, Texas; a sister, Mildred Painter of Lampasas, Texas; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patty Davis, and a sister, Beebie Smith.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory, Medford.

Helen Permelia Dias
Funeral services for Helen Permelia Dias will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Central Valley Chapel.

Mrs. Dias, 90, of Central Point, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at a Medford residential care center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2860 State St., Medford, OR 97504.

Mrs. Dias was born Nov. 22, 1911, in Pacific Grove, Calif., to Lakeview pioneers Ole and Lillian (Hill) Bulle. The family name was originally Bull, and her great-great grandparents donated Bull’s Prairie to the town of Lakeview.

On March 16, 1940, in Reno, Nev., she married Clyde Dias, who survives.

Mrs. Dias worked as a beautician in California for five years. Her hobbies included crafts, gardening, arts and rock collecting. She was a member of the Catholic church.

She had lived in the Rogue Valley for the past 12 years after moving from Cottage Grove.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Clyde Dias Jr. of Ben Lomond, Calif.; a daughter, Pat Dykes, of Baltimore; a brother, Vern Bulle, of Cottage Grove; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Richard; two sisters; a brother; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Central Valley Chapel.

Michael Alex Sovia
A memorial service for Michael Alex Sovia will be at 6 p.m. Monday at Medford First Christian Church, 1900 Crater Lake Ave. The Rev. Paul Hagedorn, chaplain for Providence Hospice, will officiate.

Mr. Sovia, 54, of Eagle Point, died Monday (July 22, 2002) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 31, 1948, to Vernon and Margaret Sovia in Detroit. He had lived in the Rogue Valley since moving from San Jose, Calif., in 1997.

He was a professional business manager and nonprofit services manager throughout his career. He spent the last 10 years with the American Red Cross. Locally, he served as a program coordinator and instructor for the Rogue Valley Red Cross chapter. Nationally, he was an instructor and officer of damage assessment.

He is survived by a son, Bryan Sovia, San Jose, Calif.; his mother, Margaret Setterington, of Eagle Point; two brothers, Gary Sovia of Eagle Point and Ron Sovia of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and a sister, Lynn Mongiovi of Ashland.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.

Leota Tuttle
Leota Augusta Albertina Tuttle, 96, of Lincoln City, formerly of Medford, died July 20, 2002, in Lincoln City.

No services are planned. Interment will be in Memory Gardens in Medford.

She was born Leota Schukar on March 30, 1906, in Watertown, Neb. On April 2, 1923, in Sheridan, she married Orvel Earl Tuttle, who died in 1968.

She lived in Medford from 1945 to 1995. She worked for many years as a sales clerk at department and grocery stores in Medford.

She worked as a bookkeeper at California Pacific Gas Co. in Medford for 17 years until her retirement. She worked at her daughter’s business in San Francisco and learned to use a computer at age 72.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Medford and Chapel by the Sea in Lincoln City.

She wrote poetry and played the piano. She won a sales award from Sears in 1943, earned a certificate for outstanding service from the gas company in 1971, and an award of appreciation in 1990 from Medford Community Center for 2, 224 hours of community service.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet L. Smith, Neotsu; a son, Robert D. Tuttle, Medford; two brothers, Clarence Schukar, Sheridan, and Milton Schukar, Willamina; a sister, Selma King, North Bend; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a daughter in September 2001.

Arrangements: Pacific View Memorial Chapel, Lincoln City.

Willis Duane Sears
Willis Duane Sears, 85, of Medford, died Tuesday (July 23, 2002) at his home.

No services are planned. Inurnment will be at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Mr. Sears was born Aug. 20, 1916, in Tacoma, Wash. On June 2, 1939, in Tacoma, he married Helen M. Cheeseworth, who survives. He has lived in the Rogue Valley since moving from Washington in 1983.

He managed the meat department at the Fort Lewis Army Base commissary for 35 years before his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Stillacom Indian Tribe and the Waldo Mining District. He was a rockhound, gold miner and a silversmith.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Shirley A. Schmitt, Medford; two sons, Dale A. Sears, Gig Harbor, Wash., and Donald A. Sears, Olympia, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Kevin Scott Staniforth
Memorial services for Kevin Scott Staniforth were held Saturday in Phoenix.

Mr. Staniforth, 38, died July 16, 2002, in Seattle.

He was born Dec. 16, 1963, in Huntington Park, Calif., to Dexter D. and Sandra J. Staniforth. He lived in the Rogue Valley from 1971 to 1988, graduating from Phoenix High School in 1982. He was a waiter living in Seattle at the time of his death.

He enjoyed making jewelry, gardening and traveling.

He is survived by two brothers, Dexter C. Staniforth and Steven E.E. Staniforth, and one sister, Shannon Lauchstedt.

Arrangements: Bleitz of Bellevue, Wash.

Susan Clawson Morris
Services for Susan Clawson Morris will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Conger-Morris Chapel, Medford.

Mrs. Morris, 45, of Tacoma, Wash., a former Rogue River resident, died Wednesday (July 24, 2002) in Rogue River.

Conger-Morris Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Wilbert ‘Will’ S. Lewis
Wilbert "Will" S. Lewis, 72, of Central Point died Friday (July 26, 2002) at Providence Medford Medical Center.
The memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

Born on Feb. 15, 1930, in Watsonville, Calif., to Tony and Mary (Marshall) Lewis, Mr. Lewis was married to Ramona Horn on Feb. 25, 1995, in Phoenix.

He owned and operated an auto parts store in Watsonville.

Mr. Lewis attended First Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of the Rod and Gun Club, Monterey Motorcycle Association, Ashland Gun Club, International Pistol Shooters Association, and the NRA. He was a gun club instructor and in 1972 was Man of the Year in Monterey, Calif., for citizenship.

Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Tony, Abottsford, Canada, and Brian Lewis, Phoenix; three daughters, Rochele Smith, Phoenix, Pamela Lewis, Central Point and Sandra Miller, Castle Rock, Colo.; four stepchildren, Carol Sanchas, Medford, Janet Bollweg, Grants Pass, Beverly Marshall, Salem, and Alan Horn, Weston; and 14 grandchil-dren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors.

Catherine ‘Kit’ Church
The memorial service for Catherine Marie "Kit" Church will be at noon Saturday, in Canby Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Church, 56, of Mulino, died Sunday (July 28, 2002).

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Catherine Marie Gilchrist, on May 29, 1946, in Eureka, Mont. Mrs. Church attended schools in Grants Pass and Medford, and graduated from Medford High School. On July 14, 1990, she married Ronald Church.

She was instrumental in the formation of Silver Lake Fire and Ambulance Rescue as an EMT instructor. She worked for the U.S. Forest Service for more than 20 years and more recently was an engineering technician for the city of Tigard.

She was a member of the Eagles, Moose, American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Charles Horton, Bend; a daughter, Dawn Neal, Central Point; a stepson, Robert Church, SeaTac, Wash.; her mother and stepfather, Phyllis and Bill Kincaid, Central Point; two brothers, Martin Gilchrist, Medford, and Edward Gilchrist, Paradise, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

Arrangements: Canby Funeral Chapel, Canby.

Roman Bernard Meccia
The memorial service for Roman Bernard Meccia will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Rogue Room of the Mountain Meadows Club House in Ashland.

Mr. Meccia, 89, of Ashland, died Sunday (July 28, 2002) at his residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Rogue Valley Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born April 23, 1913, in Chicago, the son of Peter and Clara (Mehrforth) Meccia.

On Nov. 23, 1938, in Chicago, he married Mary Elizabeth McKenna, who survives. They moved to Ashland in 1999 from Watsonville, Calif.

Mr. Meccia was a proofreader in the printing industry and retired in 1980.

He was a member of Sons in Retirement and enjoyed sports, hiking, playing cards and family.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Roberta Bowman, Ashland, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.
