Virginia P. Fazio
Virginia P. Fazio, 86, of Jacksonville, died Monday (May 27, 2002) at her home. The memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2600 Siskiyou Blvd., Suite 100, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Sept. 8, 1915, in Chicago, to Emil and Pearl Spoeri. On Sept. 12, 1936, in Chicago, she married Joseph P. Fazio, who died in 1982.

Mrs. Fazio worked at Sears in Los Angeles in the 1960s. She was also a self-employed bookkeeper, retiring in 1987. She moved to the Rogue Valley 2½ years ago from San Diego.

She was an avid reader.

Survivors include a son, Joseph, Jacksonville; a daughter, Judi Crewse, Chester, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Richard Earl Tryon
The funeral for Richard Earl Tryon will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Mr. Tryon, 70, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (May 28, 2002) at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Grants Pass.

He was born May 21, 1932, in Sheridan. On July 13, 1991, in Las Vegas, he married Josefa "Peppy" de la Macorra, who survives. They moved to Grants Pass in 1995 from Las Vegas.

Mr. Tryon was a technician for the Atomic Energy Commission until his retirement.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

Mr. Tryon was a member of the Caveman Kiwanis Club in Grants Pass.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and woodworking.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Maria Elena Clark, Cadiz, Spain; a son, Andre King, Las Vegas; a sister, Beverly Archamboutz, Tillamook; and a grandson.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Melvin John Hansen
The Mass for Melvin John Hansen will be celebrated Thursday at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church of Central Point.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 W. Sixth St., Medford, OR 97501.

Mr. Hansen, 90, of Central Point, died Friday (Feb. 7., 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born July 4, 1912, in Finley, N.D., the son of Peter and Ida Hansen. On June 28, 1936, in Kellogg, Idaho, he married June Catherine Hauser, who died in 1995.

Mr. Hansen was a foreman for Cummings Diesel Co. in Los Angeles for 28 years before retiring in 1978.

He was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church of Central Point.

He enjoyed woodworking, antique refinishing and fishing.

Survivors include a son, Melvin R., Sherwood; a daughter, Gaille Schmidt, Central Point; a brother, Bob Hansen, Deary, Idaho; a sister, Clara Huffman, Spokane, Wash.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Hansen was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Christopher A. Nepper
Christopher A. Nepper, 79, of Vancouver, Wash., formerly of Ashland, died Saturday (Feb. 8, 2003) in Portland.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, 1101 N.E. 112th Ave., Vancouver. Interment will be at Post Military cemetery, Vancouver Barracks, Fourth Plain at L Street in Vancouver.

Memorial contributions may be made to Father Flanagan’s Boys Home, Boys Town, NE 68010.

Mr. Nepper was born July 23, 1923, in Lynch, Neb. He and his wife, Cornelia, were married for 52 years. She died in 1998.

Mr. Nepper served with the U.S. Air Force for 20 years. While living in Ashland, he worked in real estate and built and operated the Sunshine Rest Home.

He was an Oregon State University Extension Service master gardener.

Mr. Nepper was a former post commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He enjoyed fishing, painting and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Orr, Vancouver; two sons, Christopher Joseph, Portland, and Paul John, Reno; a brother, Lawrence Nepper, Tacoma; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, Vancouver, Wash.

Carolyn Barnes
A graveside service for Carolyn Barnes will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford. Friends may pay their respects between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou.

Mrs. Barnes, 68, of Medford, died Saturday (Feb. 8, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born Carolyn Jean Guyer on Oct. 21, 1934, in Pendleton, the daughter of John and Iva (VanLouven) Guyer.

In 1970, Mrs. Barnes moved to the Rogue Valley from Klamath Falls.

Mrs. Barnes worked for Rogue Valley Medical Center for 22 years, the last 12 as an admitting clerk.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Barnes, Medford; and a brother, Dennis Guyer, Glendale, Calif.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Verne Beebe
A celebration of the life of Verne Beebe will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday at Abigail’s Antique Store, 125 W. California St., Jacksonville.

Mrs. Beebe, 72, of Jacksonville, died Friday (March 14, 2003) at her home.

Arline Alice Taylor
The memorial service for Arline Alice Taylor will be at 2 p.m. today at Community Bible Church in Central Point. The Revs. Pete Slusher of Community Bible Church and Bernard Plumb of the Church of Christ will officiate. Private interment will be at Memory Gardens, Medford.

Mrs. Taylor, 89, of Central Point, died Monday (March 17, 2003) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Bible Church Building Fund, 500 N. 10th St., Central Point, OR 97502.

She was born May 31, 1913, in Iola, Kan., to August and Ada Richardson Schwardt. On Feb. 16, 1936, in Iola, Kan., she married W. Frank Taylor, who died in 1996. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1947 from Kansas.

Mrs. Taylor was a teacher for 24 years. She taught at Central Point Elementary School in School District No. 6 from 1968 to 1975, and at Hugo Elementary School in Grants Pass from 1951-1967. She retired in 1975.

She was a member of Community Bible Church of Central Point.

Mrs. Taylor enjoyed quilting, pets and music.

Survivors include a son, John, Selah, Wash.; and a daughter, Alice Taylor, Central Point. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra L. Taylor; a sister, Mary M. Gilson; and a brother, Herbert H. Schwardt.

Bill John Clarkson
The memorial service for Bill John Clarkson will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Central Point Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bishop Kelly Thompson will officiate.

Mr. Clarkson, 77, of Medford, died Friday (March 14, 2003) at his daughter’s home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Center, 228 N. Holly St., Medford, OR 97501.

He was born June 14, 1925, in Thermopolis, Wyo., to John and Marie (Farris) Clarkson. On June 29, 1960, in Las Vegas, he married Helen B. Purcell, who died in 2001. They moved to the Rogue Valley 35 years ago from Klamath Falls.

Mr. Clarkson worked as a truck driver, mechanic, welder, sheep herder and bouncer.

He was a Golden Gloves boxer, rode motorcycles with the Grey Goose Motorcycle Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. Clarkson was a member of the Jacksonville Ward of the LDS Church.

Survivors include four sons, Bill Clarkson, Coos Bay, Merrill Shamblen, Medford, Melvin Shamblen, Mountain View, Calif., and Charles Shamblen, Bonanza; four daughters, Billie Rossi and Rose Marsh, both Medford, Connie Johnston, Trail, and Janie Cousey, Phoenix; 29 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.

Olive ‘Pat’ Young
The funeral for Olive "Pat" Young will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford. Pastor Aaron Veach of Hope Christian Church in Central Point will officiate. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Young, 81, of Medford, died Saturday (March 15, 2003) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, c/o Rainbow Girls, 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97201.

She was born Olive Wait on July 24, 1921, in Broken Bow, Neb. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1945 from Vallejo, Calif. On May 16, 1945, in Reno, Nev., she married Edmund H. Young, who died in 1995.

Mrs. Young worked for Pacific Northwest Bell for more than 40 years, retiring in a management position.

She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America Association and a life member of the Rainbow Chapter of Eastern Star in Medford for 40 years.

Mrs. Young enjoyed her dogs and Rainbow Girls membership.

Survivors include a brother, Raymond Wait, in Nebraska.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

James Wordon Slattery
James Wordon Slattery, 73, formerly of Medford, died Saturday (March 15, 2003) in Medford. No service is planned.

He was born May 5, 1929, in San Francisco, to Kent and Dorothy Slattery.

Mr. Slattery worked as a custodian in Veterans Affairs hospitals for 25 years. He returned to the Rogue Valley a short time ago from Antioch, Calif.

He enjoyed animals.

Survivors include an aunt, Marilyn Johnson, Medford.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Ruth Catherine Johnson
Ruth Catherine Johnson, 84, of Ashland, died Saturday (March 15, 2003) at her home. A private memorial service will be held.

She was born Sept. 18, 1918, in New York City. She moved to the Rogue Valley four years ago from Los Angeles.

Ms. Johnson worked in the film industry with Technicolor in Los Angeles.

She enjoyed singing, acting with an improvisation group and playing bridge.

Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Schleining, Ashland; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Peggy Hamilton
Peggy Hamilton, 77, of Medford, died Monday (March 17, 2003) in Medford. No service is planned.

She was born Feb. 16, 1926, in Covina, Calif., to Leo and Marjorie Hollands. On Feb. 14, 1949, she married Arthur L. Hamilton, who died in 1996.

Mrs. Hamilton worked for Oregon-California theaters, managing the Varsity, Holly, Craterian and Cinema Center theaters, and the Starlite, Lithia, Valley and Rogue drive-ins. She retired after the Cinema Center closed.

She enjoyed animals.

Survivors include a daughter, Sherry Ann Hanscom, Medford; a son, Rickey Allen, Warner Robins, Ga.; three grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
