Florence Velma Krause
The memorial service for Florence Velma Krause will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Medford. The Rev. Darey Burkhalter will officiate. Private interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.

Mrs. Krause, 80, of Medford, died Tuesday (March 25, 2003) in Medford.

She was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Millbank, S.D., to Percy V. and Florence L. (Tession) Hart. On Nov. 7, 1945, in Watertown, S.D., she married Esten Krause, who died in 1979. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1948.

Mrs. Krause worked as a dietary cook for 25 years, mainly at Villa Royal Health Care Center.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Medford, a lodge member of Degree of Honor, and was involved in the Christian Singles group.

Mrs. Krause enjoyed doing crafts.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Cramer, Medford; a sister, Dorothy Smith, in Missouri; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Conger-Morris Funeral Home in Medford.

Denis Joseph Scully
The funeral for Denis Joseph Scully will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary Catholic Chapel in White City. The Rev. Paschol Salisbury will officiate. The committal service wll be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Chapel, Medford. The Rev. Francis Springer will officiate.

Mr. Scully, 81, of Medford, died Monday (March 24, 2003) in Medford.

He was born March 5, 1922, in San Francisco, to Michael and Hannah (Sullivan) Scully. On Sept. 5, 1953, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, he married Ella Nugent, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley eight months ago from San Mateo, Calif.

Mr. Scully co-owned and operated Pride Paint Manufacturing in San Mateo from 1964 until his retirement.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Scully enjoyed music and played many different instruments. He also enjoyed baseball.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Kevin, Newark, Calif., and Michael D., San Mateo; a daughter, Maureen Scully, Redwood City, Calif.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Linda Marie Norris
The graveside service for Linda Marie Norris will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford. The Rev. Marion Clarkson will officiate.

Ms. Norris, 52, of Medford, died March 14, 2003, in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born March 12, 1951, in Los Angeles, to Fred and Therese (Grenier) Norris.

Ms. Norris worked for Kmart for 20 years.

She was a lifelong Rogue Valley resident and a member of the Nazarene Church in Medford.

Ms. Norris enjoyed crocheting, doodle art and her cat.

Survivors include a daughter, Felisha Norris, Medford; a son, Marcos, Medford; a brother, Gary Norris, Powers; four sisters, Leta Green, Medford, Lucie Maddox, Jacksonville, Toni Harris, Susanville, Calif., and Karen Klassy, Wilsonville. She was preceded in death by her mother.

Eldon E. Storey
The memorial service for Eldon E. Storey will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ascension Lutheran Church in Medford.

Mr. Storey, 83, of Medford, died Friday (March 21, 2003) at Hearthstone in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dogs for the Deaf, 10175 Wheeler Road, Central Point, OR 97502.

He was born Nov. 27, 1919, in Merrill, to Alonzo and Lulu (Hayes) Storey. He graduated from Merrill High School. On Sept. 14, 1946, in Klamath Falls, he married Lorraine Blattman, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1990 from Klamath Falls.

Mr. Storey started his own well drilling business and operated it for 39 years.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines.

Mr. Storey enjoyed designing and building his own equipment, traveling in his motorhome, boating and working with wood.

He was a charter member of the Oregon Drilling Association, where he served as past president and on the board of directors for 25-30 years. He was a life member of the Elks Club, AmVets, American Legion and National Rifle Association.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, David M., Red Bluff, Calif., and Douglas A., Klamath Falls. He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Doris Virginia Helliwell
The memorial service for Doris Virginia Helliwell will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hull & Hull Chapel in Grants Pass. Chaplain Kathy Stewart will officiate.

Mrs. Helliwell, 92, of Grants Pass, died March 18, 2003, at Royale Gardens Health and Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

She was born March 19, 1910, in Caldwell, Idaho, to Rainer and Minnie Brett. She attended the School for the Deaf and Blind in Gooding, Idaho. On Feb. 19, 1944, in Long Beach, Calif., she married Philip Forrest Helliwell, who died in 1983.

Mrs. Helliwell worked out of her home as a fly-tyer for a small company in Inglewood, Calif. When her children were of school age, she worked as an assembly line inspector for Hughes Aircraft Company in El Segundo, Calif., for 26 years. She moved to Grants Pass from Gardena, Calif., in 1979.

She enjoyed volunteering her time to various Grants Pass organizations. She was a member of a Grants Pass bowling team and enjoyed bowling and traveling to various bowling tournaments.

In addition to bowling, Mrs. Helliwell enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, knitting, traveling and reading.

Survivors include two daughters, Lorraine Levitt, Williams, and Marjean Lombardo, Grants Pass; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Brett and Pauline Oliver; and two brothers, Durward and Peyton Brett.

Emily Elizabeth Robart
The funeral for Emily Elizabeth Robart will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Medford. Pastor Kevin Gowland will officiate. Interment will be in Eagle Point National cemetery.

Mrs. Robart, 88, of Medford, died Friday (March 21, 2003) at her home.

She was born Jan. 22, 1915, in Calgary, Canada. On Feb. 7, 1948, in Richmond, Calif., she married John Robart, who died in 2003. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1989 from El Cerrito, Calif.

Mrs. Robart arranged flowers for the pulpit for Richmond Church of the Nazarene, and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

She enjoyed cooking, reading, oil painting and ceramics work.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah E. Skidgel, Winfield, Ill.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Joe Montgomery.

Sheldon Dewaine Bywater
Sheldon Dewaine Bywater, 63, of Medford, died Monday (March 24, 2003) at his home. No service is planned.

He was born May 10, 1939, in Grand Junction, Colo., to Jake and Pearl (Cotner) Bywater. On Aug. 28, 1975, in Chiloquin, he married Patricia Graves, who survives.

Mr. Bywater was a drywall contractor and owned Shell’s Drywall in Talent for 21 years, retiring in 1994.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and working on cars.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Ted, Medford; a daughter, Linda Bywater, Medford; five stepsons, Kevin Barnes, Medford, Randy, Lonnie, and Jamie Barnes and Ricky Reece, St. Joseph, Mo.; 21 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Bywater; and a brother, Teddy.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.

Wilma V. ‘Peggy’ Bridges
The memorial service for Wilma V. "Peggy" Bridges will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Valley Retirement Community Center, Talent. The Rev. John Braund, hospice chaplain, will officiate. A graveside devotion reuniting "Peggy and Bob" will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Mountain View cemetery in Ashland.

Mrs. Bridges, 83, of Talent, died Saturday (March 22, 2003) at her home.

She was born Feb. 19, 1920, in Union City, Wash., to Bertha and Bert Stanley. She was the adopted daughter of Mary and William Terry. She graduated from Bellingham High School, now Whatcom Middle School, in 1938, and from Success Business College in 1940. She lived in Bellingham, Wash., until 1963. At that time, she married "Bob" Bridges. They moved to Lacey, Wash., and then to Anchorage, Alaska, where they lived for 37 years before moving to Oregon. She lived with her husband until his death in 2001, when she remained in her home and was cared for by her daughter.

Mrs. Bridges was a credit manager for Bellingham Credit Bureau, Wahl’s Department Store and St. Joseph Hospital. While living in Anchorage, Alaska, she worked for Montgomery Ward and Anchorage Community Hospital.

She was a past member of the Credit Women’s Association in Bellingham, Wash., and was a member of the Moose, Elks and Alaska Shrine Waheed Court.

Mrs. Bridges enjoyed spending time with her husband, knitting, baking fishing and traveling.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan Paulsen, Talent; four stepdaughters, Judy Brodeur and Jennifer Rieger, both of Ashland, Sandra Evenson, Salem, Michelle Nanney, in Southern California; four stepsons, Ted Bridges, Bellevue, Wash., Jim Bridges, Redmond, Wash., Phil Bridges, Olympia, Wash., and Chuck Bridges, Phoenix; three sisters, Lona Lyddan, Bellingham, Wash., Verna Hall, Tacoma, Wash., and Jewell Dunston, Seattle; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dottie Buchanen.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

John Edwin Nutter Sr.
John Edwin Nutter Sr., 89, of Grants Pass, died Friday (March 21, 2003) at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Grants Pass. No service is planned.

He was born Dec. 11, 1913, in Lebanon, to William and May (Sims) Nutter. His family moved to the Central Point area in 1916, where he attended the old Agate School. In 1930, they moved to the Grants Pass area where he lived until his death. In 1938, in Canyonville, he married Irene Rachor, who died in 1963. He later married June Coleman, who survives. They were the first couple to be married in the little church at Pottsville near Merlin.

During World War II, Mr. Nutter worked as a security guard at Camp White. He worked in the logging industry driving log trucks and operating heavy equipment. He was also a self-employed mechanic and small appliance repairman.

He liked to tinker and built numerous small gadgets. He enjoyed music and played several instruments. He also enjoyed animals, especially his dog, Boo, and his big yellow cat.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, John Jr., Medford; two stepsons, Jay Bell and Wesley Speers; two sisters, Emily Woolsey, Grants Pass, and Mary Ragsdill, Medford; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Loris and James.

Harvey Edward Johnson
The memorial service for Harvey Edward Johnson will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Eagle Point National cemetery. John Mack of the Gospel Tabernacle in Medford will officiate.
Mr. Johnson, 79, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Association of Oregon, 3330 N.W. Yeon Ave., Portland, OR 97210, or the American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Suite 10, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Oct. 17, 1923, in Globe, Ariz., to Charles Harlem and Wilma Johnson. He attended school in Prescott, Ariz., and lived in Arizona until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942, and was stationed at Hilo, Hawaii.

In 1945, he moved to Ashland with his wife, Lola. They had six children. They later divorced, and he married Gladys Carley. They were married for 30 years and had two children and three stepchildren. She preceded him in death.

In 1996, he married Hazel Childers, who survives.

Mr. Johnson was a sawyer in the saw mills, retiring in 1968.

He enjoyed music, woodworking, gardening and going for long drives, which he referred to as "running the ridges."

Survivors include two sons, Gary, Las Vegas, and Randy, Pasco, Wash.; four daughters, Marilyn Trautman, Ashland, Kristy Goldman, Brier, Wash., Kellie Ausmus, Springfield, and Jolene Johnson, White City; three brothers, Douglas, Jacksonville, Kenneth, Medford, and Robert, Cypress, Calif.; a sister, Darlene Reeves, Jacksonville; 19 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two infant children, two brothers and two sisters.

Friends may pay their respects from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, 550 Business Park Drive, Medford.

Lowell William Monroe
The memorial service for Lowell William Monroe will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Eagle Point National cemetery Interment Shelter. Pastor Stan Way of Cornerstone Church, and Mr. Monroe’s nephew, Ed Woolfolk, will officiate.

Mr. Monroe, 81, of White City, died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

He was born May 3, 1921, in Monitor, Alberta, Canada, to Lowell and Jessie Monroe. He moved to the Rogue Valley around 1933 from Canada. On July 23, 1945, in Ardmore, Okla., he married Mildred R. Dennis, who survives.

Mr. Monroe worked in quality and control for Southern Oregon Sales in Medford for more than 30 years, retiring in 2002.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Monroe was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Medford Post No. 1833.

He enjoyed fishing, his family and pets.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Robert Mallory, Woodland, Calif.; a sister, Audrey Conley, Medford; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Margaret Cochrane, Beatrice Cochrane, Alice Duncan and Blanche Woolfolk.
