Odie D. ‘Bud’ Calvary
Odie D. "Bud" Calvary, 79, of Ashland, died Sunday (Feb. 9, 2003) at Skylark Extended Care Center, Ashland. A private service was held. Interment was at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

He was born May 4, 1923, in Myrtle, Miss., to Lonnie and Willie Calvary, and was raised in Mississippi. On May 13, 1946, in Liberty, Miss., he married Charline Rogers, who preceded him in death.

They moved to Ashland in 1955 where Mr. Calvary helped build McGrew Brothers Saw Mill in Ashland, and continued as the foreman of the mill until his retirement in 1985.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Calvary was a member of the Elks Lodge, B.P.O.E. No. 944 in Ashland.

Survivors include a son, Wayne, Tacoma, Wash.; a daughter, Johnnie Ruth Clark, Medford; a brother, Audie Calvary, Medford; a sister, Mamie Williamson, Medford; four grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son and a brother.

Gertrude ‘Trudy’ E. Bibbins
Gertrude "Trudy" E. Bibbins, 92, of Eagle Point, died Monday (Feb. 10, 2003) at a foster care home in Medford. The memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2600 Siskiyou Blvd., Suite 100, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Jan. 21, 1911, in Alameda, Calif., to Harry and Sarah Benson. On Feb. 22, 1958, in Sacramento, Calif., she married William "Bib" Bibbins, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1994 from Boulder Creek, Calif.

Mrs. Bibbins was an assembler for Singer Calculator Company for 24 years.

She was a member of the Eagles and the Order of the Eastern Star in California. She was the past president of the Women’s Sportsman Association. She was also a member of the Masonic Family Camping Club and the National Campers Travelers of Siskiyou Travelers No. 155.

Mrs. Bibbins enjoyed baseball, sewing, travel and cooking.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Bob Singleton, Modesto, Calif.; two stepsons, William "Bill" Bibbins, Orangevale, Calif., and Leon K. Bibbins, Florence; a daughter, Barbara Kelly, Yuma, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Filona Allen, Igo, Calif.; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Dick Singleton.

Helen Converse
The memorial service for Helen Converse will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wolf Creek Alliance Community Church. Private interment will be at Wolf Creek cemetery.

Mrs. Converse, 87, of Wolf Creek, died Friday (Feb. 7, 2003) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wolf Creek Alliance Community Church, P.O. Box 215, Wolf Creek, OR 97497, or Food and Friends, P.O. Box 3275, Central Point, OR 97502.

She was born Helen Elizabeth Tissot on Sept. 12, 1915, in Lima, Ohio. In 1928, she moved to Wolf Creek from Lima. On Aug. 29, 1935, in Wolf Creek, she married Wilber David Converse, who died in 1972.

Mrs. Converse was a cook at Wolf Creek Elementary School for many years, retiring in 1980.

She was a charter member of Wolf Creek Alliance Community Church. She was active in many organizations, including the Community Concert Association, Thimble Club, Friends of the Library, Child Evangelism Fellowship, 4-H and Food and Friends. She also served on the Wolf Creek cemetery board.

Mrs. Converse enjoyed reading, music, gardening and traveling.

Survivors include four sons, Alan and Merle, both Wolf Greek, and Dan and Dick, both Grants Pass; a daughter, Sylvia Bailey, Vancouver, Wash.; a sister, Ruth Naylor, Grants Pass; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne.

Nancy L. Wigand
The memorial service for Nancy L. Wigand will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Eagle Point. Pastor Chuck Symmank will officiate.

Mrs. Wigand, 64, of Trail, died Monday (Feb. 3, 2003) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Feb. 24, 1938, in McKeesport, Pa., to Harry and Avonelle Eitemiller. She graduated with honors from McKeesport High School in 1955. On Aug. 1, 1958, she married Frank L. Wigand, who survives.

The Wigands moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1962, where Mrs. Wigand resumed a career in banking, retiring as vice president of the Bank of California in 1986. After moving to Southern Oregon in 1987, she served as administrator and financial officer for Kwik-Loc Corp., which she helped found in 1988. The company was sold in 1997.

She was an active member of the American Business Women’s Association and the Women of the Moose.

Mrs. Wigand enjoyed her grandchildren, bowling, pool, bingo.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Michelle Wigand and Lori Brown, both Trail; her mother, Avonelle Eitemiller, Eagle Point; two brothers, Bud Eitemiller, The Colony, Texas, and Skip Eitemiller, Manteca, Calif.; a sister, Margaret Mikel, Newark, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Alan Joseph Karle
Alan Joseph Karle, 46, of Phoenix, died Feb. 1, 2003, in Phoenix. Private interment will be in Detroit.

He was born Feb. 22, 1956, in Detroit, to Al and MaryJane Karle. Mr. Karle moved to Medford four years ago.

Survivors include his mother, MaryJane Karle, in Florida; and a sister, Elaine, Detroit.

Mary Gladys Nollner
The funeral for Mary Gladys Nollner will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford. The cryptside service will be at 10 a.m. Sunday at Sunset Memorial Park in Coos Bay.

Mrs. Nollner, 102, of Medford, died Sunday (Feb. 9, 2003) at Waterford Assisted Living Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

She was born Sept. 5, 1900, in Snyder, Texas, to John and Lavina (Rankin) McDermott. In 1926, in Gold Hill, she married Lloyd I. Nollner, who died in 1988. She lived in North Bend from 1925 to 1997, when she moved to Medford.

Mrs. Nollner was a registered nurse and was the first public health nurse in Coos County. She retired at age 72 and had been a volunteer nurse with the Red Cross since 1950.

She was a member of the Red Cross, a life member of Zulemia Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star (North Bend), a member of the Oregon Nursing Association, and a charter member of the First Christian Church in North Bend and the North Bend Historical Society.

Survivors include 16 nieces and nephews; 40 great-nieces and nephews; and 10-great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

Shuler ‘Boots’ Meadors Jr.
The funeral for Shuler M. "Boots" Meadors Jr. will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford. Pastor Huntly Barnes will officiate. Interment will be at Jacksonville cemetery.

Mr. Meadors, 75, of Medford, died Saturday (Feb. 8, 2003) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2860 State St., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Oct. 11, 1927, in Mulberry, Ark., to Shuler M. and Melda C. (White) Meadors. On July 7, 1947, in Richmond, Calif., he married Jeanne Marie Brown, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1947 from Richmond, Calif.

Mr. Meadors worked for Pacific Power and Light (PPL) in Grants Pass, retiring in 1983. Since his retirement, he had worked part-time at Hillcrest Orchard.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in Guam.

Mr. Meadors was a member of the Applegate Historical Society and the Applegate Lions Club, and was a volunteer for Rural Action Team (R.A.T.) of Ruch.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Madeline C. Grizzell, Tigard; two sons, Jon H., Medford, and Gregory D., Lake Oswego; a sister, Sue Mastrucci, Albuquerque, N.M.; three brothers, Paul, Mulberry, Ark., and Algie Lee and Pierce W., both Bakersfield, Calif.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Daniel LeRoy Loper
The memorial service for Daniel LeRoy Loper will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trail Christian Fellowship in Shady Cove. Pastor Jack Bacon of Shady Cove Assembly of God will officiate. Interment will be at Phoenix cemetery.

Mr. Loper, 56, of Trail, died Friday (Feb. 7, 2003) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Eagle Point High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter, 203 N. Platt Ave., Eagle Point, OR 97524, or the Eagle Point High School Equestrian Team, 203 N. Platt Ave., Eagle Point, OR 97524.

He was born Nov. 26, 1946, in Medford, to John and Mary (Muse) Loper. He moved from to Trail from Applegate when he was five years old and graduated from Eagle Point High School.

He then moved to Klamath Falls to attend the diesel mechanic program at Oregon Institute of Technology. While attending college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served from 1966 to 1968, attaining the rank of specialist sergeant.

After his military service Mr. Loper returned to the Rogue Valley where he worked at various jobs including logging, farming and construction before going to work for L & M Construction. While working there, he helped build Lost Creek Cablevision in Shady Cove. While working with Lost Creek Cable he also owned a construction business, Loper Construction.

He was a lifetime member of the (NRA) National Rifle Association and was involved with the EPHS FFA program.

Mr. Loper enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors and his family.

Survivors include four daughters, Suzette Bryning and Amanda Loper, both Trail, Holly Morgan, Eagle Point, and Christie Eggleston, Shady Cove; his mother, Mary Loper, Trail; a brother, Dennis, Trail, a sister, Linda Craig, Trail; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, John Loper.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Maria Amanda Blandino
The memorial service for Maria Amanda Blandino will be at 1 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford. The Rev. David Shiferl will officiate. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Blandino, 99, of Jacksonville, died Thursday (Feb. 6, 2003) at her home.

Memorial contribution may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 449 S. Ivy St., Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Maria Meza on Jan. 14, 1904, in Masaya, Nicaragua. In 1927, in Nicaragua, she married Ernaldo Antonio Blandino, who died in 1965.

Mrs. Blandino was a seamstress. She became a U.S. citizen in 1964 in Los Angeles. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1973 from Los Angeles.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sons, Ernaldo Jose, Ruch, and Joseph Antonio, Medford; three sisters, Carmen Pene' and Chapita Meza, both Nicaragua, and Christina Meza, in Brazil; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Evelyne Margaret Beler
The graveside service for Evelyne Margaret Beler will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross cemetery in Culver City, Calif.

Mrs. Beler, 84, of Medford, died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003) in Ashland.

Among her survivors are nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Incomplete information was provided by the funeral home for Friday’s obituary.

Joan Hinson
Joan Hinson, 54, of Jacksonville, died Monday (Feb. 3, 2003) in Jacksonville as the result of a house fire. A private service was held.

Victoria ‘Vickie’ M. Downs
The memorial service for Victoria "Vickie" Marie Downs will be at 2 p.m. Monday at River Valley Community Church in Grants Pass. Pastor Roger Haberman will officiate.

Victoria, 17, of Williams, died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003) at Oregon Health and Science University Hospital in Portland, as the result of an automobile accident on Tuesday, Feb. 4, near Williams.

She was born March 25, 1985, in Grants Pass.

Victoria was a senior at Hidden Valley High School and was attending Rogue Community College. She was a National Honor Student and a volunteer for several organizations, and was involved in many committees in school, including student government and state leadership conferences.

She was a member of River Valley Community Church and participated in several mission trips to Mexico through the church.

Victoria enjoyed music, sports, helping others and spending time with her family and many friends.

Survivors include her parents, Tom and Lyn Downs, Williams; two brothers, David Downs, Williams, and Tom Downs II, Portland; and her grandparents, Iaim and Margaret Downs, of England.

Arrangements: Chapel Of The Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

John Wesley Robart
The graveside service for John Wesley Robart will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Eagle Point National cemetery Interment Shelter.

Mr. Robart, 85, of Medford, died Tuesday (Feb. 4, 2003) at his home.

He was born May 25, 1917, in Seattle, to Frank and Nettie Robart. On Feb. 7, 1948, in Richmond, Calif., he married Emily Montgomery, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1989 from El Cerrito, Calif.

Mr. Robart was the chief engineer for the University of California in Berkeley from 1950 to 1977, when he retired.

He served in the United States Merchant Marine during World War II.

Mr. Robart was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Medford.

He enjoyed traveling and church.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Deborah E. Skidgel, Winfield, Ill.; and two sisters, Lois B. Stidger, Sacramento, Calif., and Marjorie M. Brunckhurst, Sequim, Wash.; and two grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at 550 Business Park Drive, Medford.
