Mary Frances Kenney
Mary Frances Kenney, 90, of Talent, died Monday (Feb. 3, 2003) at her home. A private service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97201.

She was born Aug. 18, 1912, in Oklahoma City, to John B. and Ruth (Lewis) Helm.

Ms. Kenney worked for Western Filling in Los Angeles for 25 years. She movedfrom L.A. to the Rogue Valley in the early 1980s.

Survivors include a niece, Frances P. Nelson, Medford; and a nephew, Carl R. Spencer, Central Point.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

William ‘Willie’ Joseph
William "Willie" Joseph, 72, of Central Point, died Jan. 30, 2003, at his home. The cryptside service was held Wednesday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 W. Sixth St., Medford, OR 97501.

He was born April 18, 1930, in San Rafael, Calif.

Mr. Joseph was a laborer and technician with McNairs Brick Company in San Rafael, Calif., for approximately 30 years, retiring in 1992. He moved to the Rogue Valley 10 years ago from San Rafael, Calif.

Survivors include two brothers, Ronald, Sonoma, Calif., and Richard, Santa Rosa, Calif.; and two sisters, Barbara Jean Pernoni, San Rafael, Calif., and Annie Mabry, Santa Rosa, Calif.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Beverly Ann Geiger
Beverly Ann Geiger, 64, of Central Point, died Monday (Feb. 3, 2003) at her home. No service is planned.

She was born May 31, 1938, in Oklahoma City.

Ms. Geiger was an administrator in the electronics industry. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 2001 from Auburn, Wash.

She was involved in foster grandparenting and the SMART Reading Program in the schools.

Ms. Geiger was a member of the Eastern Pyramid Chapter 252 in Federal Way, Wash.

Survivors include a daughter, Tamara Templer, Medford; her parents, Jack and Ilene Kearns, Federal Way, Wash.; and one grandchild.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford.

Howard R. Delaney
The Mass of Christian Burial for Howard R. Delaney will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anne Catholic Church in Grants Pass. His son, the Rev. Brian Delaney, will officiate. Committal will follow at 1 p.m. at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Mr. Delaney, 84, of Grants Pass, died Monday (Jan. 20, 2003) at his home.

He was born May 2, 1918, in Chicago and grew up in Glendale, Calif. On Aug. 24, 1946, in Glendale, Calif., he married Marjorie Ola Smith, who survives. In 1958, he earned a doctorate in philosophy from St. Louis University.

For 36 years until his retirement in 1987, Mr. Delaney taught philosophy at Chaminade College in Hawaii, at Santa Clara University and at Loyola Marymount University in California. He also traveled as a lecturer on creativity and on the philosophy of death. He moved to Grants Pass in 1987 from Westchester, Calif.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Infantry in the Aleutian Islands and in Europe.

Mr. Delaney was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church. He was a member of the St. Anne School Board and volunteered at the school as a storyteller. He also participated in other church ministries to the divorced, separated and the sick.

He enjoyed reading, gardening, walks, sailboats, horses and children.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include six sons, Brian, Santa Monica, Calif., Steve, El Segundo, Calif., Robert, Hamamatsu, Japan, Paul, Westchester, Calif., Patrick, San Diego, Calif., and Martin, Huntington Beach, Calif.; four daughters, Cora Delaney, El Segundo, Calif., Mary Delaney, Herndon, Va., Dorothy Delaney, Grants Pass, and Theresa Delaney, Suisun, Calif.; a brother, Bob, San Jose, Calif.; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael; and two sisters, Marjorie Miller and Mary Lou Green.

Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Rose Martha Gearheard
The graveside service for Rose Martha Gearheard will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Eagle Point National cemetery. Pastor Bob Huntoon of Valley Bible Fellowship in Talent will officiate.

Mrs. Gearheard, 60, of Talent, died Monday (Jan. 20, 2003) at Ashland Community Hospital.

She was born May 9, 1942, in Abington, Pa., to Rose and Herbert Hellyer. She was raised in Pennsylvania and lived in California and Michigan before moving to the Rogue Valley in 1988. On Nov. 3, 1992, in Gold Hill, she married Charles Gearheard, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Gearheard was the head housekeeper at the Mark Antony Hotel in Ashland for several years.

She enjoyed crafts, knitting and her grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Tina Richards, Talent, and Dierdra Vertichio, Chatsworth, Calif.; two sons, James Bohannon and Kenneth Bohannan, both in California; a brother, Herbert Hellyer, Talent; and 15 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother.

Cooper Alexander Lewis
A time of sharing memorial for Cooper Alexander Lewis will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Upper Lithia Park in Ashland.

Mr. Lewis, 37, of Ashland, died Jan. 16, 2003, in Ashland, when his congenitally-impaired heart failed.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cooper Lewis Memorial, Parks and Recreation Department, 340 S. Pioneer St., Ashland, OR 97520.

He was born Oct. 29, 1965, in Marin County, Calif. He attended Briscoe School and Ashland Junior and Senior High School.

For several seasons, Mr. Lewis performed a variety of roles with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and founded the "Black Cygnets, " a children’s performing art troupe. He was awarded a scholarship to a summer session of the noted Minneapolis Children’s Theater.

In 1986, with his brother and sister, he opened the China Pepper Restaurant in Sun Valley, Idaho, in partnership with Beasy McMillan. Throughout his education for and work in the graphic arts field, he continued to be involved in restaurant work.

Following a trip to Europe in 1989, he concentrated on developing his artistic skills and attended Kodak’s Palm Beach workshops studying advanced digital imaging. Before establishing his own freelance business, Mr. Lewis was art director for Satory, Mathis and Beedle Advertising Agency as well as Palm Beach and Hamptons Magazines. He exhibited fine art images at West End Arts in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Most recently, he combined his graphic art and restaurant experience in helping to open a new Ashland establishment.

Survivors include his father, Geoffrey, Ashland; mother, Patricia, Novato, Calif.; two brothers, Prescott, Ashland, and Courtney, Cotati, Calif.; and a sister, Paulette Butler, Hailey, Idaho.

Roswitha Anna Groom
A gathering of the family and friends of Roswitha Anna Groom will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the family home, 6186 Iris Lane, Central Point.

Mrs. Groom, 71, of Central Point, died Wednesday (Jan. 22, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born June 15, 1931, in Germany, to Arthur and Annapaulina Klabuhn. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1973 from Germany. On Nov. 23, 1973, in Medford, she married LeRoy Walter Groom, who died in 2000.

Mrs. Groom worked in housekeeping at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was a member of the Eagles and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include a son, Ralf Potfeld, Los Angeles; two daughters, Monika Zlatek, Central Point, and Petra Denton, Kapaau, Hawaii; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.

Kathy Lochard
The memorial service for Kathy Lochard will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Providence Portland Medical Center Chapel. The graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Siskiyou Memorial Park in Medford, where she will be placed near her mother and father.

Mrs. Lochard, 54, of Clackamas, died Monday (Jan. 20, 2003) at Providence Portland Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Portland Medical Foundation’s Cancer Research Fund, 4805 N.E. Glisan Ave., Portland, OR 97213.

She was born Sept. 30, 1948, in Bemidji, Minn. She graduated from Crater High School in 1966, and from Portland’s Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in 1969. She lived most of her life in Oregon.

Mrs. Lochard’s long nursing career including caring for patients at Central Point Medical Group, Providence Medford Medical Center, Rogue Valley Medical Center, Providence Hospital of Milwaukie and finally Providence Portland Gateway Medical Clinic.

Survivors include her husband, Scott, Clackamas; two daughters, Kristen Brink, Klamath Falls, and Amy Clark, Gonvick, Minn.; a sister, Barbara Morgan, Medford; brother, George Galbraith, Tualatin; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements: Peake Funeral Chapel of Milwaukie and Perl Funeral Home of Medford.

Christine V. Brewer
The Mass for Christine V. Brewer will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Ashland.

Mrs. Brewer, 92, of Ashland, died Jan. 14, 2003, at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1311 N.W. 21st Ave., Portland, OR 97209, or the Parkinson’s Disease Association of Oregon, 3181 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Suite 2200, Portland, OR 97201.

She was born Oct. 7, 1910, in Minnesota, to Maria and Luca Devich. In 1934, in San Jose, Calif., she married Everett Brewer, who died in 1993. They moved to Ashland in 1990.

Mrs. Brewer devoted herself to her family, friends, work and church. She was the matriarch of the family and was known for her wisdom, humor and kindness.

She enjoyed creating inviting homes and spectacular gardens everywhere she lived.

Survivors include a son, Jim, Redding, Calif.; two daughters, Karen O’Rourke and Susanne Powell, both Ashland; a brother, Bill Devich; a sister, Sr. Pierre Eymard, O.P.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

Julia Anna Peabody
The graveside service for Julia Anna Peabody will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Siskiyou Memorial Park in Medford.

Mrs. Peabody, 89, of North Bend, formerly of Medford, died Jan. 8, 2003, in North Bend.

She was born July 1, 1913, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Hugh and Mary Loretta (Ryan) Mitchell. The family moved to Medford when she was a young girl, and she was raised and educated in Medford. On March 4, 1930, in Klamath Falls, she married Lewis Peabody, who died in 1970.

The Peabodys made their home in Medford for 25 years and moved in 1955 to Jacksonville, where they owned and operated a "Mom and Pop" store and gas station until retiring in 1969.

She later married Ernest Roussey and they lived in San Diego for 10 years until he died in 1990. She returned to Medford, where she lived until moving to North Bend in 1997.

Mrs. Peabody enjoyed telling stories, fishing, traveling and family gatherings.

Survivors include a daughter, Leah Furnas, Coos Bay; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Mitchell; and three sisters, Fay Crow, Lila Walker and Genevieve Minter.

Arrangements: Nelson’s Bay Area Mortuary.

Ellwood Warren Flock
The memorial service for Ellwood Warren Flock will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at West Main Church of Christ in Medford. Truman Scott will officiate.

Mr. Flock, 82, of Central Point, died Monday (Jan. 20, 2003) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the West Main Church of Christ Building Fund, 1701 W. Main St., Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Dec. 31, 1920, in Fruitland, Idaho, to Earl and Vaye (Bowers) Flock. He attended Pepperdine University and Occidental College and in 1944 received a Marine Corps commission in Quantico, Va. On Aug. 19, 1944, in Fredricksburg, Va., he married EEthel Naomi Dart, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1976.

Mr. Flock worked for the State of Oregon Employment Division, retiring in 1980.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and in the Reserves from 1950 to 1953, for a total of 10 years of service.

Mr. Flock was an elder at West Main Church of Christ.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and roses.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Marlene V. Kilpatrick, La Grande, Beth Flock, Eugene, and Kathleen Bisenius, Redmond; two sons, Gerald E., Central Point, and Ronald W., Bremerton, Wash.; a brother, F. Verne, Boise, Idaho; 13 grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

Catherine Connor
The memorial Mass for Catherine Connor will be at 8 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Ashland. Interment will be at Mountain View cemetery, Ashland.

Mrs. Connor, 95, of Ashland, died Tuesday (Jan. 21, 2003) at Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland.

She was born Dec. 5, 1907, in Fresno, Calif., to Anna and John Clinton. On Aug. 28, 1925, in Needles, Calif., she married Leo J. Connor, who died in 1984. They moved to Ashland in 1945.

Mrs. Connor was a member of Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, Ashland.

Survivors include a son, Leo J., Portland; a daughter, Mary M. Galati, Ashland; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
