Frank B. Wachter III
Frank B. Wachter III, 63, of Eagle Point, died Sunday (Jan. 19, 2003) at his home. A private service will be held.

He was born March 19, 1939, in St. Louis, to Frank Jr. and Helen (Banji) Wachter. On Nov. 5, 1989, in Klamath Falls, he married Donna WayLand, who survives.

Mr. Wachter worked as a heavy equipment operator, lineman-crew boss, welder, carpenter and electrician. He moved to the Rogue Valley 13 years ago from St. Louis.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Wachter enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Clifford, St. Louis, and Frank IV, in Ohio; two daughters, Christina Fiuren and Teresa Fiuren, both Ashland; a brother, Fred, St. Louis; a sister, Doris Tessmer, St. Louis; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, James Fiuren and Donald Wachter.

Robert Thomas ‘Bob’ Gall
The memorial service for Robert Thomas "Bob" Gall will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel in Medford. Jim Feeney will officiate.

Mr. Gall, 68, of Medford, died Tuesday (Jan. 21, 2003) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Medford Christian Center Building Fund, P.O. Box 479, Phoenix, OR 97535.

He was born Feb. 5, 1934, in Fort Benton, Mont., to Alex Gall and Ethel Medeford. On Sept. 6, 1952, in Great Falls, Mont., he married Juanita "Bunnie" Gall, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley six years ago.

Mr. Gall was an engineer for the state of Alaska for 24 years.

He was associate pastor at the Medford Christian Center.

Mr. Gall enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Dennis, Anchorage, Alaska, Larry, Peters Creek, Alaska, and Mark, Kauai, Hawaii; two daughters, Lisa Gall, Medford, and Julie Zimmerman, Wasilla, Alaska; two sisters, Darlene Harold, Seattle, and Joyce Davis, Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.; two brothers, Dick, Eugene, and Jerry, Missoula, Mont.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Merl, Donald and Al.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, Medford.

Wendell D. Ames
Wendell D. Ames, 99, of Ashland, died Jan. 13, 2003, at his home. No service is planned. Interment will be in the family plot in Lincoln, Neb.

He was born June 24, 1903, in Lincoln, Neb., to Isaac D. and Nelle (Gooch) Ames. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1927 and received a master’s degree from Columbia University in 1933.

Mr. Ames taught in a one-room log school in Idaho in the 1920s, and at Lincoln High School in Nebraska in the early 1930s. He moved to California in 1938 and taught at Tamalpais and Redwood High School in Marin County, Calif., from 1954 to 1968.

He and his wife owned and operated Ames Book Shop in San Francisco’s Financial District from 1939 to 1958.

Mr. Ames was a civilian employee of the U.S. Navy on the San Francisco Embarcadero and volunteered as an aircraft spotter during World War II.

He served on the Mill Valley, Calif., School Board in the 1950s and was a member of the Marin County School District Reorganization Committee. He also tutored American Indian children, was a California Department of Forestry fire watch volunteer and an election volunteer in El Dorado County, Calif.

Survivors include two sons, John W., Ashland, and David B., Hilo, Hawaii; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Alice Slama Ames.

John H. Lewis
John Henry Lewis, 79, of Ashland, died Monday (Jan. 20, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private service is planned.

He was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Hueysville, Ky., to Zetta and John Lewis, and was raised in Kentucky. On July 14, 1950, in Spanaway Park, Wash., he married Lorraine Elizabeth Ellis, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Lewis joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and served for 22 years. During his military career, he served in World War II, the Korean War, and was recalled to serve in the Vietnam War. He was trapped behind enemy lines during the Korean War and received several military honors.

He and his wife moved to Ashland in 1984, where he worked for Linda Vista Care Center as a maintenance supervisor. During his wife’s extended illness, he provided full-time health care until her death.

Mr. Lewis was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph K. and Verin, both Ashland; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Robert Mettler
Robert Mettler, 75, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (Jan. 21, 2003) at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A private service will be held.

He was born Aug. 7, 1927, in Menno, S.D. On Oct. 12, 1947, in Shafter, Calif., he married Maxine Albright, who survives. They moved to Grants Pass from Shafter in 1958.

Mr. Mettler was a nationally-known horse trainer and showman.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Mettler was a member of the Quarter Horse Association and the Cutting Horse Association.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Michael and Murray, both Grants Pass, and Mark, Glenpool, Okla.; a daughter, Melissa Convery, Portola Valley, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Mitchell.

Naomi Crawford
The memorial service for Naomi Crawford will be at 3 p.m. today at Bethel Assembly of God in Medford. Pastor Tim Olson will officiate. Private interment was at Jacksonville cemetery in Jacksonville.

Mrs. Crawford, 83, of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 18, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Missions at Bethel Church, 1225 E. McAndrews Road, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Sept. 26, 1919, in Gans, Okla., to Leroy and Annie (Norton) Walker. On July 11, 1937, in Smithville, Okla., she married the Rev. Hubert Crawford, who died in 1998. They moved to Oregon in 1947 and lived in Lakeview and various other areas.

Mrs. Crawford was a homemaker. She moved to Medford to be near family in 1998.

She was very active in her church, and enjoyed sewing and reading.

Survivors include five daughters, Joan Allbritton and Donna Crawford, both Medford, Lois Myatt, Ukiah, Calif., Bonnie Wong, San Jose, Calif., and Gloria Cavallaro, Oklahoma City; two sons, Wendell, Miami, Okla., and Danny, Silver Springs, Nev.; two brothers, Carl Walker and the Rev. Lewis Walker; a sister, Edith Spradling; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William "Rick" Walker and Rufus Walker; a sister, Stella Nabors; and a granddaughter, Rhonda Crawford.

Willis Henry Pyle
The funeral for Willis Henry Pyle will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Rogue Valley Christian Church in Medford. Pastor Kenne Horton will officiate. The graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Lawn Memorial Park, 2245 S.W. Whiteside Drive, Corvallis.

Mr. Pyle, 76, of Gold Hill, died Saturday (Jan. 18, 2003) at Three Fountains Nursing Center in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dogs For The Deaf, 10175 Wheeler Road, Central Point, OR 97502.

He was born July 6, 1926, in Alliance, Neb., to Willis and Pacia Pyle. He grew up in Corvallis. On Aug. 9, 1951, in Alhambra, Calif., he married Frances Ruth Davis, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1959 from Temple City, Calif.

Mr. Pyle was an equipment operator for the city of Medford, retiring in 1988 after 22 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Pyle was a member of the Rogue Valley Old Time Car Club and the Horseless Carriage Car Club.

He enjoyed restoring antique cars and playing with his grandchildren.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Keith, Medford, and Scott, Eugene; a daughter, Norma Federico, Salem; three brothers, Keith, Corvallis, Glenn, Portland, and Gaylord, West Richland, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at 550 Business Park Drive, Medford.

Cynthia Fisher-Sever
The memorial service for Cynthia Fisher-Sever will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Ashland. The Rev. Michael Powell will officiate.

Ms. Fisher-Sever, 50, of Ashland, died Jan. 13, 2003, in Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cynthia Fisher Memorial Fund, Rogue Federal Credit Union, 415 Lithia Way, Ashland, OR 97520.

She was born June 21, 1952, in Oakland, Calif., and was raised in the Hayward, Calif., area. She graduated from San Francisco State University and received a teaching credential in theater and music from the University of California at Berkeley. On July 13, 1997, in Ashland, she married Donald Sever, who survives.

Ms. Fisher-Sever was an international concert and recording vocal artist. She lived in Tokyo for six years where she performed with the Yokohama Symphony and the Tokyo Philharmonic and was featured on numerous Japanese television broadcasts.

She moved to Ashland in 1996 and performed with the Rogue Valley Opera. She was the featured soprano for the Opera Italiano ’97 and the summer Festival Italiano ’98.

Ms. Fisher-Sever was a church soloist and had performed for Opera Outreach in Southern Oregon.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include her mother, Charlotte Fisher, Hayward, Calif., and her father, John D. McCarty, El Sobrante, Calif.

Arlin ‘Mac’ McCormack
Arlin "Mac" McCormack, 72, of Miami, Ariz., formerly of Medford, died Jan. 13, 2003, at Northwest Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz. The memorial service was held Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Miami Church of Christ in Miami, Ariz. Inurnment will be at the National Memorial cemetery of Arizona.

He was born June 10, 1930, in Arkansas, to Howard and Ruby (Stroud) McCormack.

Mr. McCormack retired from Boise Cascade as a plywood millworker. He lived in Medford from 1964 to 2001, when he moved to Arizona.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. McCormack was an avid reader and sports enthusiast, and he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Reba McCormack, Miami, Ariz.; two daughters, Susan Wilson, Talent, and Jeannette Chandler, Gulf Breeze, Fla.; two sons, Richard, Portland, and Jeffrey, Phoenix, Ariz.; three brothers, Ray and Carl, both Globe, Ariz., and Ronnie, Latijeras, N.M.; two sisters, Robbie Everette, Central Heights, Ariz., and Shirley LaRocca, Globe, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements; Miles Mortuary, Miami, Ariz.

Quentin Boyd Wilson
Quentin Boyd Wilson, 78, of Grants Pass, died Sunday (Jan. 19, 2003) at Royale Gardens Health Care Facility in Grants Pass. A private service was held. Private interment will be at Eagle Point National cemetery.

He was born July 9, 1924, in Donna, Texas. On June 22, 1985, in Grants Pass, he married Ethel Lincoln Ozanick, who survives.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He moved to Medford following his discharge in 1946. He moved to Grants Pass in 1985.

Mr. Wilson worked for Bates Candy Co. until his retirement in 1987.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge and enjoyed golf and football.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Kelly Wilson, Brookings, and Douglas Lincoln, Cape Girardeau, Mo.; a daughter, Barbara Coleman, Canby; a sister, Pat Staples, Shepherdsville, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marie Anstine.

Marlene Joann Mora
The memorial service for Marlene Joann Mora has been changed to 1 p.m. today at Hope Christian Church, 325 Oak St., Central Point.

Mrs. Mora, 47, of Prineville, formerly of the Rogue Valley, died Jan. 17, 2003, at her home.

Leona Haring Lippincott
The funeral for Leona Haring Lippincott will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Mrs. Lippincott, 91, of Roseburg, formerly of the Rogue Valley, died Monday (Jan. 20, 2003) in Parker, Ariz.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 922 N. Central Ave., Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Leona Inez Alexander on Aug. 12, 1911, in Astoria. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1936 from Waldport, then to Seattle in 1955. In 1957, in Waukegan, Ill., she married John C. Lippincott, who survives.

Mrs. Lippincott was a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and playing cribbage.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Jerrie Watson, Medford, and Joan Jacobson, Huntington Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters.
