Robert Kimball
Robert Kimball, 78, of Talent, died Saturday (Jan. 25, 2003) in Medford. No service is planned.

He was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Pasadena, Calif., to Howard and Mary Kimball. He attended college for four years. He moved to Grants Pass from Santa Barbara, Calif., in 1966.

Mr. Kimball was an engineer for the City of Grants Pass Water Sanitation Department. He had previously worked for the cities of Palmdale and San Diego in California, and for Princeville Corp. in Hawaii.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his former wife, Rosemary Kimball, Phoenix; a son, David, Snyder, N.Y.; two daughters, Diann Ferguson, Ashland, and Sharon Dolan, San Diego; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, Medford.

Frederick Johnston Richardson
The memorial service for Frederick Johnston Richardson will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Eagle Point National cemetery Interment Shelter. Jack Bacon of the Shady Cove Assembly of God will officiate.

Mr. Richardson, 77, of Shady Cove, died Friday (Jan. 24, 2003) at his home.

He was born June 14, 1925, in Port Angeles, Wash., to Gardiner and Maudie Richardson. He graduated from telegraph school in Seattle in 1952. On Nov. 11, 1961, at Lake Stevens, Wash., he married Helen Schmitz, who died in 2002. They moved to the Rogue Valley from Tonasket, Wash., in 1997.

Mr. Richardson worked as a telegrapher for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and for the Alaska and Milwaukee Railroad. He was also a published author and a patented inventor.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Richardson was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He enjoyed mining, panning for gold and politics.

Survivors include a son, Fred Jr.; seven daughters, Tessie Hammer and Samantha Adams, both Shady Cove, Beth Sprau, Ravensdale, Wash., Marian Bellah, Las Vegas, Sheryll Moorehead-Eyre, Vancouver, Wash., Debbie Weeks, in Nevada; and Anna Barton, Thomaston, Conn.; two brothers, Richard, Quilcene, Wash., and Charles, Goldendale, Wash.; a sister, Helen Cleveland, Auburn, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pamela Cheryl Merriman
The memorial service for Pamela Cheryl Merriman will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Central Point. The Rev. Dwayne Brown will officiate. The graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

Mrs. Merriman, 56, of Central Point, died Wednesday (Jan. 22, 2003) at her home.

She was born March 31, 1946, in Aberdeen, Wash., to Harvey and Opal Wyatt. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1993 from Eugene. On Sept. 9, 2000, in Central Point, she married Kelly Merriman, who survives.

Mrs. Merriman was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Central Point and was active with the Chamber of Commerce Greeters.

She enjoyed fishing and camping, reading, gambling and crafts.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Monica Lightle, Springfield; a stepdaughter, Rebecca Merriman, White City; a sister, Judy Butts, Roseburg; and five grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at 550 Business Park Drive, Medford.

Dorothy Jean Nugent Harper
The funeral Mass for Dorothy Jean Nugent Harper will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Ashland. The Rev. Joseph Betschart will officiate.

Ms. Nugent Harper, 75, of Ashland, died Thursday (Jan. 23, 2003) at Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland.

She was born May 19, 1927, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Louis Thomas Nugent and Cecilia Katherine Lyman Nugent. She attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. She moved to Ashland in 1978 from Summerland, Calif.

Ms. Nugent Harper was a painter and a poet.

Survivors include three sons, Thomas Campbell, Arroyo Grande, Calif., William Campbell, Newcastle, Okla., and Peter Harper, Oak View, Calif.; three daughters, Kathryn Campbell and Rebecca Sanders, both Ashland, and Cecelia Harper, Davis, Calif.; three sisters, Ann Wilson, Santa Fe, N.M., Ruth McCoy, Canyon Country, Calif., and Susan Feldmann, Arroyo Grande, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Melvin O. Shilts
The memorial service for Melvin O. Shilts will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church in Medford. Chaplain John Braund of Rogue Valley Hospice will officiate.

Mr. Shilts, 67, of Medford, died Tuesday (Jan. 21, 2003) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Hospice, 2960 Doctor’s Park Drive, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Feb. 1, 1935, in Stanley, Wis., to Chester and Emma (Johnson) Shilts. He grew up in Wisconsin and moved to Klamath Falls when he was 17. He moved to the Rogue Valley following his military service. On Oct. 6, 1961, in Ashland, he married Rose Jean Sweet, who died in 1988.

Mr. Shilts worked in logging and timber. He later worked for the Jackson County Roads Department and for Bear Creek Corp. He also helped install the roof on the Rogue Valley Manor and was involved in the construction of the North Umpqua section of the Pacific Crest Trail.

He entered the U.S. Army after high school and served until 1957.

Mr. Shilts enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, mining and camping.

Survivors include a daughter, Sonia Lemacks, Central Point; a son, Steve, Roseburg; a brother, Harold Dailey, Salem; two sisters, Sharon Bradfield, Medford, and Alice Sweet, Phoenix; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Dailey.

Patricia ‘Pat’ Jeanne Best
The memorial service for Patricia "Pat" Jeanne Best will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Eagle Point National cemetery Interment Shelter. The Rev. Liam Carey of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford will officiate.

Mrs. Best, 77, of Medford, died Thursday (Jan. 23, 2003) at her home.

She was born June 1, 1925, in El Paso, Texas, to Franklin and Emawylie Davenport. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1959 from Texas. She graduated from the Oregon College of Education in Monmouth in 1977, receiving a bachelor’s degree in social sciences. In 1981, in Reno, Nev., she married Robert W. Best, who died in 2000.

Mrs. Best enjoyed bingo, ballroom dancing with her husband and sewing.

Survivors include three daughters, Wyllajo Martin and Mayde L. Evans, both Medford, and Jeanne A. Heinz, Burns; a brother, Bill F. Davenport, Pecos, Texas; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Evalyn Sparr Graf
Evalyn Sparr Graf, 85, of Ashland, died Thursday (Jan. 23, 2003) at Northridge Center. No service is planned.

She was born July 16, 1917, in Painesville, Ohio, to Thomas and Pearl Sparr. In 1942, in Burton, Ohio, she married J. Lucas Graf, who died in 1965. She moved to the Rogue Valley eight years ago from Manhattan, Kan. Before living in Kansas she lived in Rocky River, Ohio.

Mrs. Graf was an assistant vice president with Society Corp., which is now Key Corp. in Cleveland.

She was a past member of the Ashland Newcomers and a local bridge club.

Mrs. Graf enjoyed bridge, boating and spending time with her family.

Survivors include a son, Joseph L., Ashland; and one grandson. She was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Sparr.

Anne Marie Hicks
The memorial service for Ann Marie Hicks will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 28, 2003) at Perl Funeral Chapel at Siskiyou. Mrs. Hicks, 87, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 330 SW Curry St., Portland, OR 97201.

She was born March 3, 1915, in Venturia, S.D., a daughter of John and Magdalene Waltz. In 1941, in Medford, she married Walter Dean Hicks. She had lived in the Rogue Valley since 1990 after moving from Tacoma, Wash.

Mrs. Hicks enjoyed reading, gardening, and arts and crafts.

Survivors include two sisters, Clara Brockel, Forsyth, Mont., and Irene Thomas, Medford. She was preceded in death by her husband, five sisters and a brother.

Billey Langley
The funeral for Billey L. Langley will be at 1 p.m. Monday (Jan. 27, 2003) at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel in Pahrump, Nev. Mr. Langley, 84, of Pahrump, died Saturday (Jan. 18, 2003) in Pahrump.

The Rev. V. Lee Gregory of Medford Neighborhood Church will officiate.

He was born Dec. 21, 1918, in Duncan, Okla., a son of Ezra and Myrtle Sinnett. He lived in Ashland and Talent from 1956 to 1986. A rancher, he enjoyed exploring the desert on an ATV, crafts and restoring Model T Fords.

He was preceded in death by a longtime companion, Violet Beecham; a sister; a brother; and one son.

Survivors include four sons, B.A. Langley, Idaho; Doug Richmond, Rainier, Wash., Vaughn Lanley, Seattle, and Travis Langley, Soap Lake, Wash.; four daughters, Sandy Bryant, Pahrump, Carla Mangus, Eagle Point, Pam White, White City, and Mickey Stanfield, Kenai, Alaska; two brothers, Bud and Buzz Sinnett; 26 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

Ronald McIntyre
The funeral for Ronald D. McIntyre will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 29, 2003) at Conger-Morris Chapel, Medford, with Earl Best officiating. Mr. McIntyre, 65, of Medford, died Thursday in Portland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the OHSU Renal Transplant Foundation, 1121 SW Salmon, Portland, OR 97201, or the American Diabetes Association.

Visitation is 3 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Conger-Morris Chapel, 715 W. Main St., Medford. Burial will be in the Jacksonville cemetery.

He was born Aug. 5, 1937, in Medford, a son of Ernest and Helen McIntyre. He graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1955. On Nov. 15, 1957, in Reno, Nev., he married Frances Whiteley, who survives.

Mr. McIntyre worked for the Laborers Union and later operated Ron’s Market in Jacksonville for 21 years.

He was a charter member of Jacksonville Rotary, a volunteer fireman and served for a time as the town’s mayor.

Survivors in addition to his wife are a son, David McIntyre, Ruch; two daughters, Tami Blount, Queen Creek, Ariz., and Terri Harrison, Eugene; a brother, Russell McIntyre, Jacksonville; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Luella Swanson.

Chadwick James Ritchie
The memorial service for Chadwick James Ritchie will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Applegate Christian Fellowship. Pastor Jim Wright will officiate. A private interment service was held.

Mr. Ritchie, 21, of Medford, died Thursday (Jan. 30, 2003) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Applegate Christian Fellowship Camp Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1090, Jacksonville, OR 97530.

He was born Feb. 24, 1981, in Medford, to Mike and Tracy (Baumer) Ritchie. He was raised in Medford. He attended North Medford High School and was active in the band as a drum major.

Mr. Ritchie entered the Oregon National Guard during the summer of his junior year in high school. After high school, he served as an infantryman during deployments to Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

He enjoyed music and played the piano, saxophone, bass guitar and tuba.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include a brother, Bryn, Medford; and his grandparents, Jim and Jean Baumer, Medford, and Chuck and Peggy Ritchie Potter, Medford. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Warren Ritchie.

Benne' Leila Linker
The funeral for Benne' Leila Linker will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Central Valley Chapel in Central Point. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn of Providence Foundation Hospice will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.

Mrs. Linker, 48, of Gold Hill, died Tuesday (Jan. 28, 2003) as a result of an automobile accident in the Rogue River near Gold Hill.

Memorial contributions may be made to MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers), Jackson County Chapter, P.O. Box 1174, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Benne' Anderson on April 9, 1954, in Newberg. On Oct. 12, 1975, in Vancouver, Wash., she married Calvin E. Linker, who survives.

Mrs. Linker was a homemaker most of her life and had worked for Umpqua Bank in Rogue River for the past 2½ years. She was a lifelong Rogue Valley resident.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, traveling and flowers.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Natosha Mickson, Central Point, and Tiffany Ingbretson, Medford; her mother, Donna Anderson, Medford; three brothers, Charles Anderson, Medford, Dale Anderson, Gold Hill, and Kelly Anderson, Portland; a sister, Anna Anderson, Medford; her grandfather, Hubert Bentley, Medford; and one grandchild.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Central Valley Cremation and Funeral Care, Central Point.

Eleanor Ladora Stott
Eleanor Ladora Stott, 79, of Medford, died Friday (Jan. 31, 2003) at Hearthstone in Medford. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 W. Sixth St., Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Dec. 26, 1923, in Niles, Ohio, to John and Gladys (Harsh) Palm, and was a descendant of "Wild Bill" Hickok. She grew up in Ohio and ice skated on Lake Erie as a child.

She later moved to Roseburg, where she worked at The Wagonwheel Cafe' for many years before moving to Medford and working as a waitress and bartender at The Highway Tavern in Medford.

In earlier years, she enjoyed bowling and square dancing. She also enjoyed soap operas, reading romance novels and playing cards.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathleen Andrews, North Bend; and her companion, Hack Stewart, White City. She was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel; and two brothers, Wayne and Merle.
