Patricia Diane Garcia
Patricia Diane Garcia, 51, of Denver, formerly of the Rogue Valley, died Jan. 24, 2003, at her home. No services are planned.

She was born Dec. 21, 1951, in Medford, the daughter of Ray and Anna Barnard.

She had lived most of her life in the Rogue Valley and worked for Bear Creek Corp. before moving to Denver six years ago.

She enjoyed fishing, cooking and taking care of her friends.

She is survived by four sons, James Carter, Medford, Tony Carter, Salem, Steve Carter, White City, and Ray Garcia, Medford; a sister, Debi Dahl, Maple Lake, Minn.; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Dennis Barnard.

Dorothy B. Ihle
The memorial service for Dorothy B. Ihle will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chico cemetery, in Chico, Calif., with the Rev. Tom Shifflet of Chico First Christian Church officiating. Inurnment will be at Chico cemetery.

Mrs. Ihle, 89, of Medford, died Wednesday (Jan. 29, 2003) at Hearthstone Manor.

Memorial contributions may be made to N.T. Enloe Memorial Hospital in Chico.

She was born July 11, 1913, in Hastings, Neb., the daughter of Fred and Albina Bay. In August 1953, in Carson City, Nev., she married Walter Ihle.

She has lived in the Rogue Valley for five years, moving here from Chico.

She worked for the telephone company in Chico for 33 years and retired in 1974 as a supervisor. During World War II, she was a factory worker in Manteca, Calif. in a war-related company.

She was past president of the N.T. Enloe Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the American Cancer Society, the First Christian Church of Chico and Telephone Pioneers.

She enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and Europe and doing community volunteer work.

Survivors include a son, Bill Ihle, Medford; and a sister, Helen Midgley, Roseville, Calif.

Michelle Rose Ellen Aguirre
The funeral for Michelle Rose Ellen Aguirre will be at noon Monday at Talent Friends Church, 50 Talent Ave., Talent, with Pastor David Howell officiating.

Friends may pay their respects from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the church.

Michelle, 10, of Medford, died Jan. 26, 2003, in an accident.

She was born Nov. 6, 1992, in Phoenix, to Edward A. and Carroll B. (Wheeler) Aguirre. She lived in the Rogue Valley all her life and was home schooled.

She loved to collect lizards and doodlebugs, and she loved animals — particularly training her dog, Regis.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include six sisters, Mary Aguirre of Sausalito, Calif., April Pace of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Cheerie, Spring, Suzanne and Hollie Aguirre, all of Medford; five brothers, Andrew, Jonathan, Mark, Jared and Joshua, all of Medford; and her grandparents, Adeline Aguirre of San Jose, Calif., and Wade and Ann Wheeler, of Dunlap, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jed, in 1990.

Dannie D. Chartier
Dannie D. Chartier, 61, of Medford, died Tuesday (Jan. 28, 2003) at his home. A private service will be held.

He was born Feb. 6, 1941, in Hugo, Colo. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1976 from Arvada, Colo.

Mr. Chartier was a member of the Corvette Club and enjoyed working on old cars. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing and gambling.

Survivors include a son, Dan Jr., Medford; a daughter, Denise Moody, Eagle Point; two brothers, Leroy, Central Point, and Larry, Medford; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Christopher Lynn Bitgood
A celebration of the life of Christopher Lynn Bitgood will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Table Rock Fellowship, 3601 N. Pacific Highway, Medford. The Rev. Douglas Cox will officiate.

Mr. Bitgood, 23, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Jan. 28, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

The funeral home incorrectly referred to Rev. Cox as Pastor, and the caption under Thursday’s photo of the memorial at the parking structure listed the wrong site for the service.

Sheila Josephine Kuntz
Private services will be held for Sheila Josephine Kuntz.

Mrs. Kuntz, 76, of Medford, died Friday (Jan. 31, 2003) in Medford.

She was born March 19, 1926, in New York City, the daughter of Preston and Florence Hinman.

On May 31, 1947, in New York, she married Francis Kuntz, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1991 from Santa Ana, Calif.

She enjoyed reading, concerts and her family.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include sons James and Paul Kuntz, Medford, and Preston Kuntz, LaVerne, Calif.; one sister, Patricia Steele, Hillsdale, N.J.; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Kuntz.

Sue L. Thomas
The memorial service for Sue L. Thomas will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Eagle Point National cemetery Committal Shelter.

Mrs. Thomas, 49, of Eagle Point, died Friday (Jan. 31, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Advocacy Center, 816 W. 10th St., Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Dec. 21, 1953, in Medford, to David and Betty (Bradshaw) Cox. She graduated from Eagle Point High School in 1971. In November 1971, in Reno, Nev., she married Wes Cowden. They later divorced. On Aug. 21, 1993, in Eagle Point, she married Joe Thomas, who survives.

Mrs. Thomas was a homemaker and occasionally worked as a bartender. She volunteered with Helpline, answering phones, and with the Children’s Advocacy Center in Medford.

Mrs. Thomas enjoyed arts and crafts, sewing, cooking and baking, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Rob Cowden, Eagle Point, and Rich Cowden, currently serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Kitty Hawk in Yokosuka, Japan; two stepsons, John Thomas, Corvallis, and Brett Thomas, currently serving in the U.S. Air Force in Kansas; four stepdaughters, Alissa Tooley, Central Point, Heather Smith, Rogue River, Angie Astett, Medford, and Shannon Nef, White City; her mother, Betty (Cox) Osborne, Medford; a brother, Richard "Dick" Cox, Medford; a sister, Shelly Funderburg, Eagle Point; two grandchildren; and 13 step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Dave Cox.

James Michael Dobbins Sr.
James Michael Dobbins Sr., 51, of White City, died Sunday (Feb. 2, 2003) at his home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Cancer Center, Providence Community Health Foundation, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Aug. 2, 1951, in Mesa, Ariz. He moved to the Rogue Valley 15 years ago from Chandler, Ariz.

Mr. Dobbins was a truck driver. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gambling and watching Westerns.

Survivors include three sons, James M. Jr., Joseph F. and Elvis G., all White City; two stepsons, Robbie Harvey, Glendale, Ariz., and Paul L. Willis, Fort Wainwright, Alaska; his mother, Marjorie Skidmore, White City; two brothers, Gary Dobbins, White City, and Earl Skidmore, Auburn, Wash.; a sister, Andrea Kuro, Renton, Wash.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Buford Dobbins.

Sadie Christina Shepherd
The graveside service for Sadie Christina Shepherd will be at 11 a.m. today at Maynard cemetery in Maynard, Ark. John Turner will officiate.

Mrs. Shepherd, 84, of Pocahontas, Ark., formerly of the Rogue Valley, died Sunday (Feb. 2, 2003) at Randolph County Medical Center in Pocahontas, Ark.

She was born July 1, 1918, in Douglas, Ariz., to Finis Orrie and Fannie Opal (Massey) King. She married William "Clark" Shepherd, who preceded her in death. They lived in Southern Oregon from the 1930s to the late 1970s, when they moved to Arkansas.

Survivors include four sons, William, Medford, Robert, Grants Pass, David, Sutherlin, and Jim, Pocahontas, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pauline Crume
Pauline Crume, 97, of Medford, died Friday (Jan. 31, 2003) in Medford. No service is planned.

She was born May 30, 1905, in Grants Pass, to William and Mattie May Thomason. She married Ray Crume, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Crume was a homemaker. She moved to Medford from Temple City, Calif., in 1971.

She was a foster grandparent for the Talent/Phoenix School District and enjoyed children.

Survivors include a daughter, Maxine Robles, Medford; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, Medford.

Elton K. Hilliard
The funeral for Elton K. Hilliard will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Perl Funeral Home in Medford.

Mr. Hilliard, 87, of Eagle Point, died Monday (Feb. 3, 2003) at Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

He was born Sept. 22, 1915, in Troy, Idaho, to Lonson Henry and Anna Davida (Rudeen) Hilliard. He attended what is now Northwest Nazarene University and received a bachelor’s degree in theology in 1945 from Pasadena Nazarene College, now known as Point Loma Nazarene University.

On June 4, 1944, in Pasadena, Calif., he married Betty Glenn, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1974 from Juliaetta, Idaho.

Mr. Hilliard was a Nazarene minister for 26 years in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

He was a member of the Siskiyou Chapter of the North American Rock Garden Society.

Mr. Hilliard enjoyed gardening and photography.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Brenda Tippin, Trail, and Nancy Singh, Fresno, Calif.; a son, Bob, Edenton, N.C.; a sister, Evelyn Hilliard, Lewiston, Idaho; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Hilliard.

Bertha Ford Lowd
The funeral for Bertha Ford Lowd will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home in Grants Pass. Pastor Wes Winn of the First Christian Church will officiate. Interment will be at the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Grants Pass.

Mrs. Lowd, 96, of Grants Pass, died Monday (Feb. 3, 2003) at Royale Gardens Health Care Facility in Grants Pass.

She was born June 3, 1906, in Grants Pass, to Archer and Nellie Ford. She graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1925. She attended Southern Oregon Normal School (now Southern Oregon University) and the University of Oregon. In 1938, in Ashland, she married Howard Lowd, who died in 1972.

Mrs. Lowd was a teacher. She taught at Grave Creek School, New Hope School, Shan Creek School and Riverside School. The Lowds also owned and operated Del Rogue Garage.

She was a member of the Church of God. Mrs. Lowd enjoyed the outdoors, especially flowers, and stamp collecting.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Jeanette Katherns, Lincoln City; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Velma Cummins, three brothers, Lester, Clarence and Archer "Clayton" Ford; and three sisters, Myrtle Neely, Malinda Payne and Nellie Faulkner.

John ‘Jack’ W. Brophy
The memorial service for John "Jack" W. Brophy will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at West Main Church of Christ.

Mr. Brophy, 66, of Medford, died Friday (Jan. 31, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 1, 1936, in Klamath Falls, to John Wesley and Eleanor (Swingle) Brophy. He grew up in the Rogue Valley and is a descendant of the Brophy family that settled in Eagle Point. Brophy Way in Shady Cove is named for his father and Brophy Road in Eagle Point is named for his grandfather.

He attended Medford schools and graduated from Medford High School, where he excelled in track and field. He attended what is now Southern Oregon University and other colleges.

On Aug. 18, 1959, in Tennessee, he married Patsy Donnell, who survives.

Mr. Brophy was an electrical engineer for McDonnell Douglas. After traveling the world for his work with McDonnell Douglas, he moved back to Medford in 1994.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Brophy was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). He was a great history buff and enjoyed flying, computers, investing and genealogy.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, John Wesley III, Redondo Beach, Calif., and Nicolas Clay, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; his stepmother, Helen Brophy, Central Point; a sister, Ardith Ranney, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a half-sister, Nancy Doty, Merlin; and three grandchildren.
