Mildred ‘Millie’ D. Long
Mildred "Millie" D. Long, 87, of Ashland, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2003) at Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland.

No service is planned.

Mrs. Long was born July 15, 1915, at Washougal, Wash., to Fred and Jennifer Olive (Clearwater) Martin. She graduated from Medford High School.

She enjoyed card playing, animals, chocolate and yellow roses.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Allen and Judy Corallo, both Ashland; five brothers; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great grandchildren. Her husband, Albert C. Long, preceded her in death in 1971.

Doris May Forbes
The funeral for Doris May Forbes will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Memory Gardens Mortuary in Medford.

Mrs. Forbes, 83, of Medford, died Tuesday (Dec. 31, 2002) at a foster care home.

She was born Doris Brooks on May 18, 1919, in Perryville, Ark.

Incorrect information was provided for Friday’s obituary.

Doris Myra Foster
The memorial service for Doris Myra Foster will be at 1 p.m. today at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home. Her son, the Rev. Gary S. Foster, will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Grants Pass.

Ms. Foster, 86, of Ashland, died Wednesday (Jan. 1, 2003) at Skylark Assisted Living in Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Asante Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Dec. 13, 1916, in Courtland, Calif., to Clarence L. and Aveline (Bohman) Runyon. She moved to Ashland in 1992, after living in Rogue River for 12 years.

Ms. Foster was a member of the Grants Pass Four Square Church where she was the director of senior activities. In Ashland, she was a member of the Christian Center and was active in their senior programs until her health prevented it. She lived at Skylark Assisted Living for the past five years.

She enjoyed growing violets and roses, embroidery, doll making and traveling.

Survivors include her son, Gary S. Foster, Gold Hill; two daughters, Carol L. Tillery, Klamath Falls, and Joan L. Scott, Grass Valley, Calif.; a sister, Lucille A. Runyon, Sacramento, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

John Thomas Richards
John Thomas Richards, 81, of Rogue River, died Thursday (Jan. 2, 2003) at Medford Rehabilitation Center. A private service will be held. Inurnment will be at Eagle Point National cemetery.

He was born Oct. 15, 1921, in Overton, Neb. On June 20, 1942, in Lexington, Neb., he married Eva McCance, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1964 from Cozad, Neb.

Mr. Richards was a golf course superintendent for Grants Pass Golf Course and Reames Golf and Country Club.

During World War II, he served as a technician fourth grade in the U.S. Army in the 97th Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Richards was an avid sports fan and enjoyed golf, fishing and travel.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, John, Portland; two daughters, Winnie Wagner, Klamath Falls, and Carolyn Frazier, Couquille; a sister, Jane Kruse, Cozad, Neb.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Herb, Art and Dick; and a sister, Frances Richman.

Iris Christel Tyner
The memorial service for Iris Christel Tyner will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, at First Church of the Nazarene in Medford. Joe McMahan, Director of Pastoral Care, Asante, will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Eagle Point National cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504 for breast cancer awareness and research.

Mrs. Tyner, 62, of Ashland, died Tuesday (Dec. 31, 2002) at her home.

She was born Dec. 9, 1940, in Berlin, Germany. On Dec. 31, 1965, in Albany, Ga., she married W. T. "Wayne" Tyner, whom she had met in Germany. They moved to Ashland in 1970 and built a home on the Greensprings, where they moved in 1971. Her husband died in 2000.

Mrs. Tyner worked as a phlebotomist at a military hospital in Germany before coming to the United States in 1965. She attained her U.S. citizenship and continued her health care education, becoming a certified nurses assistant, licensed practical nurse and following graduation from Southern Oregon University in Ashland in 1978, a registered nurse.

She began her career at Rogue Valley Medical Center in 1979, where she eventually became director of patient services. Her most recent position was that of critical care unit manager.

Survivors include three daughters, Corina Noah, Frederick, Md.; Patricia Gutschmidt Jamestown, N.D.; and Pamela Taylor, Frederick, Md.; one brother, Peter Friedrichs, Schwedt, Germany; one sister, Sylvia Hoffman, Frankfurt, Germany; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

Earl Sandor Bokor
Earl Sandor Bokor, 77, of Rogue River, died Wednesday (Jan. 1, 2003) at Royale Gardens Health and Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass. A private cremation service was held at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home in Grants Pass.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, c/o Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, 2065 Upper River Road, Grants Pass, OR 97526.

He was born March 22, 1925, in South Gate, Calif. On Sept. 12, 1963, in South Gate, Calif., he married Marilyn Puffett, who survives. They moved to Rogue River in 1973 from Lynwood, Calif.

Mr. Bokor was the grounds supervisor at Josephine County Fairgrounds until his retirement in 1990. He also set the starting gates for horse racing at the Josephine County Fairgrounds each year.

He served in the Marine Corps during World War II.

Mr. Bokor enjoyed fishing, gardening and hunting for agates at the coast.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Shelley Bokor, Salem; two sons, Donald, Boise, Idaho, and David, Crescent City, Calif.; and a sister, Dorothy Willis, Whittier, Calif.

Everett Henry McGee
The graveside service for Everett Henry McGee will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mountain View cemetery in Ashland. Pastor Jim Larsen of the Christian Church of Ashland will officiate. A reception and sharing time will follow at noon at the Christian Church of Ashland.

Mr. McGee, 93, of Ashland, died Monday (Dec. 30, 2002) at Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Church of Ashland, 318 B St., Ashland, OR 97520.

He was born July 27, 1909, in Ashland, to James H. and Olive (Wing) McGee, and lived there throughout his life. He was baptized in the old Christian Church building on the corner of Second and B streets in 1931. On June 20, 1931, in Ashland, he married Donzella Neill, who died in 1995. He and his wife entered the Northwest Christian College in Eugene in 1936, and graduated in 1940. In 1942, he became the minister of the Phoenix Church of Christ and ministered there for 10 years.

Mr. McGee became a grocer after operating the Lake of the Woods store for a summer, and purchased the East Side Grocery on the corner of Iowa and Morse streets in Ashland. In 1942, he had the Market Basket built on the corner of Siskiyou Boulevard and Beach Street, and he and his brother-in-law, Dick Neill, operated the store for several years. In the early 1950s, he purchased the Fridegar Building located just below the Old Ashland Armory between Pioneer and Oak streets, and with Dick Neill operated the store until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Vernon.

Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Wanda V. Messenger
Wanda V. Messenger, 94, of Medford, died Tuesday (Dec. 31, 2002) at a foster care home in Medford, where she had lived for three weeks. A private service will be held in Fresno, Calif. Inurnment will be in Belmont Memorial Park, in Fresno, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

She was born Feb. 14, 1908, in Los Angeles. On Feb. 20, 1930, in Fresno, Calif., she married Mack R. Messenger, who died in 1975.

Mrs. Messenger was a bookkeeper. She had lived in Smith River, Calif., since 1974, moving to a Rogue Valley retirement home 1½ years ago.

She was a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Messenger enjoyed senior bus trips to Reno and was known for her lemon pies.

Survivors include a son, Lee, Medford; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

Earl W. Obenshain
Earl W. Obenshain, 90, of Central Point, died Wednesday (Jan. 1, 2003) at Farmington Square in Medford. Private entombment was at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.

He was born May 12, 1912, in Santa Rosa, Calif. On July 15, 1935, in Santa Ana, Calif., he married Adell M. Kyker, who died in 1998.

Mr. Obenshain lived in the Rogue Valley for 56 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Earlene J. Wyatt, Central Point, and Paula Jean Pendleton, Roseburg; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and eight brothers.

‘Jack’ John T. Naylor
"Jack" John T. Naylor, 89, of Grants Pass, died Dec. 27, 2002, at Royale Gardens Health and Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass. No service is planned.

He was born Jan. 30, 1913, in Orilla, Ontario, Canada, to Ethel and Fred Naylor. He graduated with high honors in electrical engineering from Oregon State University in 1943.

On Dec. 21, 1934, in Portland, he married Ruth Tissot of Wolf Creek. They moved to Grants Pass from Deerfield Beach, Fla., in 1981 and had recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Naylor worked as a self-employed engineer, for General Telephone and ITT. He worked in international communications in the Philippines and South America for 18 years.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Carol Manka, in Maryland, and Joan Crosby, in Canada; a brother, Jim Naylor, in Florida; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Lundberg’s L.B. Hall Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Lester Bailey Wakeman
The memorial service for Lester Bailey Wakeman will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Community Bible Church in Central Point. Pastor Peter Slusser will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.
Mr. Wakeman, 90, of White City, died Saturday (Dec. 28, 2002) at his home.

The pastor’s first name was incorrect in Wednesday’s obituary.

Jeffrey Craig Martin
The memorial service for Jeffrey "Jeff" Craig Martin will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Havurah Shir Haddash Synagogue in Ashland.

Mr. Martin, 48, of Ashland, died Dec. 24, 2002, at Ashland Community Hospital.

Doris May Forbes
The funeral for Doris May Forbes will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Memory Gardens Mortuary in Medford. The Rev. Robert Larson of Ascension Lutheran Church in Medford will officiate. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Forbes, 83, of Medford, died Tuesday (Dec. 31, 2002) at a foster care home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Doris Forbes Memorial Fund, c/o Jesuit High School, 9000 S.W. Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway, Portland, OR 97225.

She was born Doris Orgain on May 18, 1919, in Perryville, Ark. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1948 from Oklahoma. On Dec. 22, 1954, in Yreka, Calif., she married Stuart L. Forbes, who died in 1994.

Mrs. Forbes was a seasonal worker for Naumes for 32 years, retiring in 1981.

She was a member of the Ladies Eagles Auxiliary for 45 years, and was voted outstanding president of the Eagles Auxiliary for the state of Oregon in 1961. She was also a member of the Medford Emblem Club.

Mrs. Forbes was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, camping and her yard.

Survivors include two daughters, Loretta Heath, Central Point, and Lydia Graham, Shelton, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Jewell Mulvania, Carson, Wash.; a stepson, Dee Forbes, in California; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Carl Orgain; and a grandson, Terry Orgain.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Albert ‘Al’ A. Guthmiller
The funeral for Albert "Al" Arthur Guthmiller will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home in Ashland. Pastor John Braund will officiate.

Mr. Guthmiller, 79, of Ashland, died Wednesday (Jan. 1, 2003) in Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2600 Siskiyou Blvd., Suite 100, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born June 30, 1923, in Jamestown, N.D., to Fred and Katie Guthmiller. On Oct. 4, 1945, in Jamestown, N.D., he married Virginia May, who died in May 2002. They moved to Ashland in 1962.

Mr. Guthmiller was a partner with Western Oil and Burner in Ashland. He retired in 1987.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945, and was stationed at Camp White for a brief time in 1945.

Mr. Guthmiller enjoyed woodcrafting, hunting, fishing and auto racing.

Survivors include two sons, Robert "Bob, " Talent, and David, Medford; three sisters, Mary Guthmiller, Jamestown, N.D., Helen Hagel, W. Fargo, N.D., and Margaret Johnson, Jamestown, N.D.; five brothers, Fred, Les and Richard, all Jamestown, N.D., John, Grand Forks, N.D., and Ed, Anoka, Minn.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Jim.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.
