Cliona Luella Haight
No services are planned for Cliona Luella Haight, 70, of Ashland, who died Friday (Dec. 6, 2002) at her home.

She was born March 7, 1932, at Booker, Texas, the daughter of Luella and Cliol Mardock.

On June 24, 1961, in Coquille, she married Fred Haight, who survives.

Mrs. Haight moved to the Rogue Valley in the late 1950s and worked as a waitress at the Steakhouse Restaurant. She later worked for Parson’s Pine Products and retired in 1992.

Her hobbies included camping, fishing and trips to Reno.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Jackie Butterbaugh of Salt Lake City and Connie Graves of Sacramento, Calif.; two sons, Rick Huston of Vacaville, Calif., and Gary Huston of Mountain Home, Idaho; a sister, Elinita Bales of Newberg; a brother, Alvin Mardock of San Jose, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Haight was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

Jack Clemmer
Jack Clemmer, 66, of Medford, died Saturday (Dec. 7, 2002) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

A private service will be held.

Mr. Clemmer was born Oct. 4, 1936, in Pasadena, Calif., the son of Daniel and Constance Clemmer.

Mr. Clemmer lived in Orange County, Calif., where he worked for Disneyland and in auto sales. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1998 and worked for Exxon in Ashland.

Mr. Clemmer served in the Air Force.

Survivors include a sister, Jane L. Ehl of Grand Prairie, Texas; a brother, Kelly Clemmer of St. David, Ariz., seven nephews and three nieces.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Myrtle H. Running
The funeral for Myrtle Helen Running will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Pastor Dwayne Robinson of Ashland First Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Mrs. Running, 102, of Ashland, died Sunday (Dec. 1, 2002) at Ashland Community Hospital.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ashland First Baptist Church, 2004 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland, OR 97520 or to a favorite charity.

She was born July 8, 1900, in Falls City, Wash., to Celia and Harvey Norton and was raised in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. On June 30, 1923, in Union County, Ore., she married Iver Simonsen, who died in 1942. On Nov. 6, 1946, she married Hans Running, who died in 1959.

Mrs. Running lived in Elgin for 26 years before in 1959 moving to Payette, Idaho, where she enjoyed gardening. She was a charter member and active volunteer with the Payette County Senior Citizens and a member of the Payette First Baptist Church. She moved to Ashland in 1992, where she lived at the Ashley Senior Center and was a member of the Ashland First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Ivan Simonsen, Ashland; three daughters, Wanda Coffman, Ashland, Nikki Roseboro, Springfield, and Nancy Strain, Milton-Freewater; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

Hazel L. Huffman
The graveside service for Hazel L. Huffman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Angeles Memorial Park in Port Angeles, Wash. Pastor Earl Anderson will officiate.

Mrs. Huffman, 98, of Central Point, died Sunday (Dec. 1, 2002) at her home.

She was born April 30, 1904, in Spirit Falls, Wis., to Rastus and Emily May Barden. She attended schools in Idaho and cooked for the logging industry when she 16 years old. On May 27, 1920, in St. Maries, Idaho, she married Owen Huffman, who died in 1960.

Mrs. Huffman managed bingo at the Helpful Neighbors Club in Agnew, Wash. She also worked with her husband in the dairy farming business. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1966 from Agnew, Wash., where she had lived since 1944.

She enjoyed fishing, hunting and dairy farming.

Survivors include a son, Howard L., Central Point; three daughters, Peggy Huffman and Dawn Hulse, both Medford, and Judy Jackson, Eagle Point; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Michelle Huffman.

Grady K. Hughes
The funeral for Grady K. Hughes will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Medford.

Mr. Hughes, 80, of Shady Cove, died Saturday (Nov. 30, 2002) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, 1974 E. McAndrews Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born April 1, 1922, in Locust Grove, Okla., to James and Grace (Lawson) Hughes. On July 16, 1944, in Wichita, Kan., he married Erna A. (Greisen) Hughes, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1993 from Glendale, Calif.

Mr. Hughes owned and operated G.K. Hughes Steel Fabrication in California.

He enjoyed church, helping people, making things and spending time with his family.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Karan Diane Fleming, Glendale, Calif.; a sister, Virgie Harris, in Tennessee; and one grandchild.

Eleanor Rachel Grappe
The memorial service for Eleanor Rachel Grappe will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Bethel Assembly of God in Medford. Private interment was at Mountain View cemetery, Ashland.

Mrs. Grappe, 94, of Medford, died Thursday (Nov. 28, 2002) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, P.O. Box 779, Minneapolis, MN 55440-0779.

She was born Jan. 10, 1908, in Glasgow, Scotland, to Jean and Forbes Brown. She moved to the United States in 1910, and was raised in Coos Bay. In 1927, she graduated from Southern Oregon Normal School, now known as Southern Oregon University. She married Charles W. Forrest in 1937 and they moved to Ashland in 1955. He died in 1960. In 1970, in Salem, she married Harold Grappe, who survives.

Mrs. Grappe taught school in the Coos Bay area and was a substitute teacher at Ashland schools.

She was a member of the Oregon State University Mother’s Committee, the Order of the Eastern Star and Medford Aglow. She attended Bethel Assembly of God in Medford.

Mrs. Grappe was a pianist and enjoyed painting with oils.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Doug and Bob Forrest, both Medford; a daughter, Jean Hartmann, Honolulu; two stepsons, Don Grappe and Dan Norton, both Portland; three stepdaughters, Marilyn Lux, Klamath Falls, Paula Geck, Boulder, Colo., and Bernadine Getchell, Portland; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

John William Mathes
The memorial service for John William Mathes will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Eternal Hills Chapel in Klamath Falls.

Mr. Mathes, 79, of Klamath Falls, formerly of Medford, died Friday (Nov. 29, 2002) in Klamath Falls.

Memorial contributions may be made to Klamath Hospice, 437 Main St., Klamath Falls, OR 97601, or the Alzheimer’s Association, 1311 N.W. 21st Ave., Portland, OR 97209.

He was born Feb. 11, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo., to William and Veronica (Renner) Mathes. He was raised in Kansas City and moved to Klamath Falls in 1936. On July 2, 1948, in Klamath Falls, he married Patsey Tilton, who survives.

Mr. Mathes owned Barco Janitorial Supplies for 30 years. He lived in Medford for nine years, and had lived in Klamath Falls since then.

He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II, stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska.

Mr. Mathes was a member of the American Legion and Poe Valley Grange. He was a private pilot involved with Search and Rescue with the Civil Air Patrol.

He enjoyed hunting, boating and snowmobiling, camping and small engine repair.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, David, Klamath Falls; a daughter, Susan Getz, Rogue River; a sister, Catherine Parr, Klamath Falls; a brother, Rev. Ernest Mathes, Klamath Falls.; and five grandchildren.

Arrangements: Eternal Hill Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, Klamath Falls.

Bernice Carney
The memorial service for Bernice Carney will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Ashland. The Rev. Betschart will officiate. A reception will follow the Mass.

Ms. Carney, 88, of Ashland, died Nov. 26, 2002, at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2860 State St., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Nov. 18, 1914, in East Chain, Minn., to Edward and Julia Blachowski. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975 from California.

Ms. Carney enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters, JoAnna Kissinger, Eagle Point, Kathleen Martin, Ashland, and Patricia L. Peterson, Blaine, Minn.; a son, David, Alamo, Calif.; a sister, Virginia Peck, Fairmont, Minn.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters; three brothers; and a grandson.

Michael Lamont Marshino
A celebration of the life of Michael Lamont Marshino will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Church of the Harvest, 4646 Fox Hollow, Eugene.

Mr. Marshino, 48, of Redding, Calif., formerly of Medford and Eugene, died Nov. 24, 2002, of medical complications.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Marine Corps Christmas Toy Drive, Toys for Tots, c/o Bud Cullmer, coordinator, 6634 Domino Road, Central Point, OR 97502.

He was born March 17, 1954, in Denver, to George and Janet Marshino.

Mr. Marshino was a telephone PBX specialist installer.

He enjoyed the outdoors, rock collecting, fishing, his two Labs, Sir and Lady, and his cat, Weebee.

Survivors include his parents, George Marshino, Redding, Calif., and Janet Hartung, Redmond; two brothers, George, Vancouver, Wash., and Creston, Fall Creek; three sisters, Laurie Johnson, Creswell, Mary Fuller, Harrisburg, and Karen Hoyt, Redding, Calif.

Arrangements: Allen and Dahl Funeral Chapel, Redding.

John David Cowan
A celebration of the life of John David Cowan will be at 5 p.m. Saturday in the big gym at Ashland Middle School.

Mr. Cowan, 52, died Sunday (Dec. 1, 2002) in a bicycle accident.

On Feb. 14, 1987, he married Katy, who survives.

Mr. Cowan was a maintenance worker for Ashland School District and enjoyed the children at the school.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, sports, dancing and spaghetti.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Samuel Burton, and Jackson Phillip; a stepdaughter, Ruth Ellen; his mother Betty; five sisters, Mary, Christine, Denise, Kathleen, and Laurie; six brothers, Mike, Enrico, Jim, Andy, George and Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Burton.

Juanita Ruby Telkamp
Juanita Ruby Telkamp, 89, of Medford, died Thursday (Nov. 28, 2002) at Providence Medford Medical Center. No service is planned.

She was born July 1, 1913, in Geneseo, Kan., to Sanford and Pearl Seder.

Mrs. Telkamp was a homemaker. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1991 from Watsonville, Calif.

She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, painting and collecting Oriental things.

Survivors include a son, Donald Skinner, Medford; a daughter, Donna Moore, Watsonville, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters; a brother; and a grandchild.

Dorothy Kiewiz
Dorothy Kiewiz, 80, of White City, died Saturday (Nov. 30, 2002) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private service will be held at a later date.

She was born Jan. 9, 1922, in St. Paul, Minn., to Milan and Martha Simcox. On Jan. 23, 1942, in Long Beach, Calif., she married Robert H. Kiewiz, who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1976 from Diamond Bar, Calif.

Mrs. Kiewiz was a member of the Lutheran church.

She enjoyed arts, crafts, reading and baking.

Survivors include two daughters, Alaine Norton and Deborah Slagowski, both Medford; a son, Tracy, in Washington; a sister, Corinne Christina, Minneapolis; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.
