Verla Lutz Dunbar
Verla Elizabeth Lutz Dunbar, 96, of Ashland, died Tuesday (June 3, 2003) at Ashland Community Hospital. A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Nevada City, Calif.

She was born Nov. 29, 1906, in Indian Flat, near Nevada City, to Charles and Fannie Eden. After graduating from Nevada City High School, she worked as a bookkeeper for Standard Oil Company in Bakersfield, Calif. In 1925, in Bakersfield, she married Louis Otto Lutz, who preceded her in death. The couple moved to Grants Pass in 1927 and to the Siskiyou Mountains south of Ashland in 1938.

During World War II, she worked for the U.S. Department of Commerce Weather Bureau, Siskiyou Summit observation station. Between 1948 and 1951, she was a clerk with the Ashland School Board. The couple moved to Klamath Falls, where she was a bookkeeper and clerk for Klamath Union High School. She returned to Ashland in 1956 after the death of her husband, and became a bookkeeper for Trowbridge and Flynn in Medford.

In 1960, she married Watson Dunbar and moved to Vancouver, then Langley, British Columbia. She returned to Ashland after Mr. Dunbar’s death in 1989.

Mrs. Dunbar was a Past Matron of Alpha Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Ashland.

Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Wishard, Gig Harbor, Wash., and Marjorie O’Harra, Ashland; two sisters, Lois Davies and Elma Baker, both Nevada City, Calif.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by three brothers, a sister, and a grandson.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland.

Ira ‘Bud’ Kilgore
Ira "Bud" Kilgore, 81, of Grants Pass, died Friday (May 30, 203) at Royale Gardens Health and Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass. A family gathering will be held at a later date.

He was born Nov. 13, 1921, in Hazleton, Idaho.

Mr. Kilgore served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 until 1945. He then worked for the Navy in electronics at a naval shipyard until his retirement in 1974.

He moved to Grants Pass from Benicia, Calif., in 1998. On June 9, 1999, in Carson City, Nev., he married Freida Frazier, who survives.

Mr. Kilgore was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, and the Old Time Fiddlers and was a past member of The American Legion.

He enjoyed music, working with his hands and spending time outdoors.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Gary, Cotati, Calif., and Richard, Rhonert Park, Calif.; two stepsons, Wayne Howell, Woodland, Wash., and Robert Howell, Tacoma, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Lee Hoffer, Puyallup, Wash., and Marla Stohr, Bonney Lake, Wash.; a sister, Edith Smith, Modesto, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two wives, Margaret and June.

Arrangements: Grants Pass Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.

Evelyn Schaecher Donahue
Evelyn G. Schaecher Donahue, 91, of Medford, died Monday (June 2, 2003) at a foster home. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 449 S. Ivy St., Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Evelyn Flynn on Sept. 9, 1911, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1952 from Eugene. She married Lawrence Schaecher and they owned Larry’s Rich Main Ice Cream from 1952 to 1976. He died in 1978. She later married Jim Donahue, who died in 1999.

Mrs. Donahue was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Anne’s Altar Society and was a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Schaecher, Medford, and Ron Schaecher, Nags Head, N.C.; a sister, Lena Fossum, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Glen Dennis Engstrom
Glen Dennis Engstrom, 93, of Medford, died Monday (June 2, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A private service will be held at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon Lung Association, 9320 S.W. Barbur Blvd., Suite 140, Portland, OR 97201.

He was born Oct. 4, 1909, in Minnesota. On Oct. 5, 1969, in Burns, he married Pauline E. Worrell Stafford, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1970 from Burns.

Mr. Engstrom was a sawyer at Himes Lumber Company for 40 years.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Burns.

Mr. Engstrom enjoyed fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two stepsons, Bill Stafford, Medford, and Roy Stafford, San Bernardino, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son.

Samuel C. Serrage
The funeral for Samuel C. Serrage will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Chapel in Grants Pass. Pastor Carlos Pimentel will officiate.

Mr. Serrage, 60, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday (June 4, 2003) at his home.

He was born April 12, 1943, in Fresno, Calif. He received a degree in finance from California State University at Fresno and went on to become a certified public accountant. On Aug. 14, 1965, in Fresno, Calif., he married Terry Leef, who survives. They moved to Grants Pass in 1997.

Mr. Serrage established the firm of Serrage & Serrage Certified Public Accountants in Grants Pass.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Serrage was a member of Calvary Chapel, the Greater Grants Pass Rotary Club, the Grants Pass Chamber of Commerce, the Oregon Society of Public Accountants and was a member of and served on the board of Crimestoppers.

He enjoyed golf and dancing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Samuel, Grants Pass; a daughter, Sandra Lynne Hiatt, Fresno, Calif.; his mother, Vivian Serrage, Fresno, Calif.; a sister, Ginel Phillips, Fresno, Calif.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel; and a brother, Dennis.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

E. Kathleen McCann
The graveside service for E. Kathleen McCann will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Sunset Garden in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford. Pastor Bob Batte of Prospect Baptist Church will officiate.

Mrs. McCann, 93, of Central Point, died Wednesday (June 4, 2003) at a foster care facility in Medford.

She was born April 30, 1910, in Birch Tree, Mo., to Alexander and Edna (Wright) VanOrsdel. On Sept. 26, 1931, in Missouri, she married Albert McCann, who died in 1986. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1939 from Missouri.

Mrs. McCann was a homemaker and a member of Lampman Road Baptist Church.

She was an avid gardener and enjoyed painting.

Survivors include two sons, Albert Lee and Richard Dean McCann, both Central Point; a daughter, BettyJo Juveland, Central Point; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Barbara Jean McCann; and three brothers.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

Rosemary ‘Rosie’ Reisinger
The memorial service for Rosemary Lou "Rosie" (Baker) Reisinger will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford. The Rev. Earl Best will officiate.

Mrs. Reisinger, 43, of Medford, whose body was found May 31 in Lake County, is believed to have died on or near Feb. 3.

The address for memorial contributions to the Southern Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Center should read, 228 N. Holly St., Medford, OR 97501.

The street address was incorrect in Thursday’s obituary.

Harold Gene Reed
Harold Gene Reed, 71, formerly of Medford, died Sunday (June 1, 2003) in Eugene. No service is planned. Interment will be at Eagle Point National cemetery.

He was born July 10, 1931, in Gary, Ind., to Henry and Katherine (Icenogle) Reed. He graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in Long Beach, Calif.

Mr. Reed moved to the Rogue Valley in 1980 and worked at Rogue Valley Memorial Hospital. He moved to Eugene after he retired.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Wilmot; a brother, Jim, Long Beach, Calif.; and two granddaughters.

Arrangements: Long and Shukle Memorial Chapel, Roseburg.

Rodney D. Eller
The memorial service for Rodney D. Eller will be at 2 p.m. today at the Rose Court Clubhouse in Phoenix. Darey Burkhalter will officiate.
Mr. Eller, 47, of Phoenix, died Monday (July 7, 2003) at his home.

He was born Oct. 18, 1955, in Grants Pass. He attended Crater High School in Central Point.

Mr. Eller worked for Red Barn in Phoenix, retiring in 1998.

He enjoyed the Oregon Coast, rafting and games.

Survivors include his companion, Barbara Jane Fincher; two sons, one daughter; a brother, Ronald; and his father, Alvin. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Lois I. Bates
The memorial service for Lois I. Bates will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Christian Church of Shady Cove.

Mrs. Bates, 71, of Eagle Point, died Sunday (July 6, 2003) in Charleston.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital, 505 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

She was born Dec. 16, 1931, in Walla Walla, Wash., to Harry and Carol Jefferis. She graduated from high school in Walla Walla. On May 21, 1950, in Walla Walla, Wash., she married Stanley Raymond Bates, who survives.

Mrs. Bates was a secretary and a homemaker. She lived in Shady Cove from 1972 to 2000, when she moved to Eagle Point.

She was a member of the Bunco Club.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Gary R., Aloha; two daughters, Sheryl Lynn Chaney, Eagle Point, and Shelly Rene Baker, Shady Cove; a brother, Earl Jefferis, North Bend; a sister, Nancy J. Nevin, Shady Cove; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Coos Bay Chapel, Coos Bay.

Leonora A. Dedicatoria
The funeral for Leonora A. Dedicatoria will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mrs. Dedicatoria, 80, of Medford, died Monday (July 7, 2003) at a local foster care home.

She was born Aug. 20, 1922, in the Philippines. In 1937, in Porac Botolan, Zambales, Philippines, she married Emeliano Dedicatoria, who died in 1993.

Mrs. Dedicatoria was a mother and grandmother. She lived on and off in Medford and Vallejo, Calif.

She enjoyed knitting, gardening and her family.

Survivors include five sons; four daughters; and 70 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may pay their respects from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.

Roy M. Martin
Wendy E. Martin

The memorial service for Roy M. Martin and Wendy E. Martin will be at 2:30 p.m. July 27, 2003 at the Cotton Memorial picnic area in Ashland’s Lithia Park. A potluck will follow. Contact Shirley Delsman Botts for further information.

Roy Martin, 49, and Wendy Martin, 51, of Salem, formerly of Ashland, died May 26, 2003, in a car accident near Tyler, Texas.

Steve D. Brown
The funeral for Steve D. Brown will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Walla Walla City Seventh-day Adventist Church in Walla Walla, Wash.

Mr. Brown, 53, of College Place, Wash., formerly of Medford, died Sunday (July 6, 2003) at Kennewick General Hospital in Kennewick, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to Walla Walla City Church Christian Education Fund, c/o Mountain View Funeral Chapel, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, WA 99362.

He was born April 5, 1950, in Roseburg, to Farrell E. and Jeanne (Adamson) Brown. He attended elementary school in Roseburg and Klamath Falls, and Rogue River Junior Academy in Medford. He graduated from Milo Adventist Academy in Days Creek, and attended trade school at Walla Walla College for one year. On June 8, 1969, in Grants Pass, he married Joan Hagood, who survives.

Mr. Brown learned printing while at Milo Adventist Academy. After moving to Walla Walla, he worked for Any & All Printing, then Standard Printing. He became the owner of Standard Printing in 1985.

He was a member of the Walla Walla City Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he served in many capacities in the junior, early teen and youth departments, was chairman of the Social Committee, music leader, Sabbath School superintendent, elder, deacon, member of the education and finance committees, and did photography for the church, including nature programs.

Mr. Brown enjoyed music and started singing at the age of 10. He also enjoyed fishing, golf, fast cars and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Mechelle Trujillo, Fowler, Colo., and Diane Bonjour, Colton, Calif.; his parents, Farrell and Jeanne Brown, College Place; a brother, Gary, College Place; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter.

Friends may pay their respects from 1 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Mountain View Funeral Chapel, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla, Walla.
