Hazel Josephine Anderson
Hazel Josephine Anderson, 96, of Medford, died Sunday (May 11, 2003) at her home. No service is planned. Interment will be at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

She was born Feb. 26, 1907, in Lawrence County, Tenn., to Clinton and Pearl (Hubbard) Graham. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1923 from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. On Sept. 10, 1928, in Medford, she married Earl Anderson, who died in 1974.

Mrs. Anderson was a homemaker.

She enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Survivors include two daughters, Ella Johnson, Florence, and Loretta Rice, Pohoa, Hawaii; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers; a sister; and a grandson.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.

LeRoy ‘Roy’ T. Kobza
LeRoy "Roy" T. Kobza, 68, of Eagle Point, died Friday (May 9, 2003) at his home. Private committal will be at Eagle Point National cemetery.

He was born Sept. 21, 1934, in Dwight, Neb., to Jerry and Agnes (Levichy) Kobza. He attended Holloway High School in Minnesota and Santa Rosa Junior High.

Mr. Kobza retired from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office in 1980 after 20 years of service. He was a firearms instructor, range master and taxidermist. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1992 from Kenwood, Calif.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, bird watching, boxing, rodeo and country music.

Survivors include four daughters, Brenda Fields, Noelle Kobza, Denise Roumbanis and Becky Maners; three brothers, Dennis, Valerian and Duane; and four grandchildren.

Dorothy Jean Harris
The graveside service for Dorothy Jean Harris will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford. Pastor Damon McCoy of Central Point Baptist Church will officiate.
Mrs. Harris, 68, of Central Point, died Saturday (June 7, 2003) in Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2860 State St., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Dec. 24, 1934, in Tremont, Tenn., to Henry and Flayvilla (Noland) Ownby. She graduated from Peshastin High School in Peshastin, Wash. In 1953, she married Wilse Proffitt, who died in 1978. In 1991, she married Grover Harris, who died in 2001. She lived in the Rogue Valley for the last 50 years.

Mrs. Harris owned a bakery in Spokane, Wash.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Central Point.

Mrs. Harris enjoyed knitting, sewing and traveling.

Survivors include a daughter, Shannon Walter, Cathedral City, Calif.; two sisters, Tina Colette, Ashland, and Sue Stinson, Phoenix; three brothers, Larry Ownby, Butte Falls, Frank Ownby, North Pole, Alaska, and Bob Ownby, Redding, Calif. She was preceded in death by four brothers.

Cina L. Kinney
The graveside service for Cina L. Kinney will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Siskiyou Memorial Park in Medford.

Mrs. Kinney, 88, of Medford, died Sunday (June 8, 2003) at a foster care home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1311 N.W. 21st Ave., Portland, OR 97209.

She was born Sept. 14, 1914, in Marshfield, to Fred and Edna Smith. She graduated from Marshfield High School. On Oct. 21, 1939, in Marshfield, she married Charles Lyle Kinney, who died in 1989. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1945 from Marshfield.

Mrs. Kinney was a homemaker. She also volunteered at Rogue Valley Medical Center for many years, where she was in charge of the Christmas decorations among other things, and volunteered at the heart and children’s clinics.

She enjoyed flower gardening and spending time at the family cabin with her family and friends.

Survivors include a son, Robert, Medford; a daughter, Lynn Kinney, Olympia, Wash.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dean Smith.

Thelma M. Lucy
The memorial service for Thelma M. Lucy will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Eagle Point National cemetery. Inurnment will be at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Mrs. Lucy, 76, of Medford, died Friday (June 6, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 12, 1927, in Butler, Pa., to William and Etta Weaver McQuistion. In 1926, in Detroit, she married Howard B. Lucy, who died in 1967. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 2001 from North Hollywood, Calif.

Mrs. Lucy enjoyed sewing, crocheting and her family.

Survivors include a son, Larry H., Central Point; a brother, Harry McQuistion, Los Angeles; a sister, Betty Buckley, in Pennsylvania; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Alan R. Lucy.

Rex Nyle Clarke
The memorial service for Rex Nyle Clarke will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Perl Funeral Home in Medford.

Mr. Clarke, 62, of Medford, died May 29, 2003, at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Vurl Virginia Harrison
The memorial service for Vurl Virginia Harrison will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rogue Valley Manor in Medford. The Rev. Don Hildebrand will officiate. A second memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at the First United Methodist Church in Coos Bay. The Rev. Adele Hustis will officiate. Interment will be at Ocean View Memory Gardens in Coos Bay.

Mrs. Harrison, 84, of Medford, died Saturday (June 7, 2003) at Rogue Valley Manor Health Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Manor Assistance Fund, 1200 Mira Mar Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Feb. 27, 1919, in Vancouver, Wash., to Henry E. and Eva Blanche (Hornor) Mallory. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Portland and Linfield College in McMinnville. On Aug. 26, 1939, in Portland, she married James Harrison, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1962 from the Coos Bay area.

Mrs. Harrison was a deputy county clerk in the Coos County and Jackson County Clerk’s Office, and retired as Jackson County treasurer. She was also a homemaker and the wife of retired Coos County Judge James Harrison.

She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Mrs. Harrison was well-known for her sewing and mending for family, friends, and the Rogue Valley Manor Health Center.

Survivors, in addition to her husband of 63 years, include a son, Ron, Coos Bay; a daughter, Norrene L. Mallams, Medford; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Clarence T. Lamp
The memorial service for Clarence T. Lamp will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Lamp, 59, formerly of Medford, died May 16, 2003, in Miami Beach, Fla.

Carol V. Collins
Carol V. Collins, 89, of Medford, died Sunday (June 8, 2003) at her home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Carol V. Love on Jan. 21, 1914, in Omaha, Neb. On Dec. 1, 1939, in Papillion, Neb., she married Lyle Collins, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1951 from Olathe, Kan.

Mrs. Collins was a homemaker.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, James, San Diego.

Charles ‘Chuck’ Hawes
A celebration of the life of Charles "Chuck" Hawes will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at 1407 Ball Road, Eagle Point.
Mr. Hawes, 61, of Eagle Point, died Wednesday (June 11, 2003) after a long bout of illnesses.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eagle Point Community Fireworks Fund, P.O. Box 75, Eagle Point, OR 97524.

He was born Jan. 5, 1942, in the Chicago area, to Frank and Elsie Hawes. He was raised and completed school in the Chicago area.

Mr. Hawes joined the U.S. Army in 1961 and was admitted into the first fixed-wing flight training class for Army enlisted personnel. After flight training, he served his remaining active duty tour as a pilot in Europe, attaining the rank of chief warrant officer. After active duty, he joined the Army Reserves and flew helicopters until 1982.

In 1966, he joined Pan Am World Airlines to fly international routes, including the evacuation of personnel from Vietnam. His position was eventually absorbed into United Airlines, and he ended his professional flying career as a 747 captain.

He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1971. In addition to his professional career, he was also a part-time rancher.

Mr. Hawes enjoyed ranching, the outdoors, world travel and cruises, and his friends.

Survivors includes his wife, Deanna Hawes, Eagle Point; a stepson, Scott Lowe, Springfield; stepdaughter, Debby Gros, Eagle Point; his mother, Elsie Hawes, Medford; a brother, Bill, Lyle, Ill.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard.

Robert ‘Bob’ Henry Nagle
The funeral for Robert "Bob" Henry Nagle will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Central Point.

Mr. Nagle, 84, of Central Point, died Monday (June 9, 2003) in Tumwater, Wash. He was traveling home from Seattle, when his car left the highway and flipped into a pond.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Missionary Fund, 2305 Taylor Road, Central Point, OR 97502.

He was born Sept. 27, 1918, in Stoutland, Mo., to Ernest and Elsie May Howard. His father died when he was 2 and he was raised and attended grade school in Independence, Mo. He went to trade school in Kansas City, Mo., where he learned welding. On Aug. 7, 1949, in Klamath Falls, he married Ethel Mary Nelson, who died in 1999. They moved to Central Point in 1953 and raised six children.

Mr. Nagle was a welder and fabricator for Medford Steel (Medford Fabrication), retiring in 1984.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy, stationed on Oahu.

Mr. Nagle was an active member of the LDS Church and served the church in many positions.

He enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include three sons, David, Denver, Bruce, Provo, Utah, and Ron, Seattle; two daughters, Kathryn Van Meter, Bakersfield, Calif., and Jennifer Ricks, West Jordan, Utah; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Robert C. Nagle.

James ‘Jim’ Everett Rose
James "Jim" Everett Rose, 44, of Medford, died May 2, 2003, in Sacramento, Calif. The memorial service was held May 10 at the Church of Christ in Gold Beach. Ed Knapp officiated.

He was born Nov. 7, 1958, in North Bend. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975 and attended elementary school in Ashland and schools in Medford. On June 24, 1994, in Reno, Nev., he married Michele C. Jackson, who survives.

Mr. Rose was a mill worker for Boise Cascade in White City for 15 years. He attended Applegate Christian Fellowship.

Mr. Rose enjoyed spending time with his family, walking on the beach, weightlifting and stand-up comedy and poetry.

Survivors include his wife, Michele C. Rose, Medford; a son, Alex, in Arizona; two stepsons, Brandt Michael Summers and Branden Richard Summers, both of Medford; three daughters, Salina, Robin and Rachel, all in Arizona; and a stepdaughter, Brittanie Richele Summers, Medford; two brothers, Jerry, Estacada, and Gary, Vancouver, Wash.; a half-brother, Brett, Gold Beach; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley, Roseville, Calif.

Jack Duembler Kellhofer
Jack Duembler Kellhofer, 81, of White City, died Wednesday (June 11, 2003) in White City. No service is planned. Inurnment will be in Eagle Point National cemetery.

He was born Aug. 3, 1921, in Seneca, Mo., to Edward and Nina Kellhofer.

Mr. Kellhofer worked as a driller and powder man in heavy construction. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Jackie Ann Winholtz, Benton, Ky.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Elva Kellhofer.

Alfred Middleton
Alfred Middleton, 90, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday (June 10, 2003) at a Grants Pass foster care home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 W. Sixth St., Medford, OR 97501.

He was born April 21, 1913, in Grants Pass. He attended Jerome Prairie School through the eighth grade, and then attended Grants Pass High School. On May 29, 1935, in Central Point, he married Dorothy Jones, who died in 2002.

Mr. Middleton lived in Southern Oregon for most of his life. He worked for some of the local mills and did some carpentry work. He also worked his own farm, and enjoyed teaching people the value of farming.

He was a life member of the Elks and was active in the Boy Scouts throughout his life.

Mr. Middleton enjoyed shuffleboard, traveling and hunting.

Survivors include two sons, Theron, Grants Pass, and David, Eugene; and a sister, Vera Hamilton, Redding, Calif. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
