Emil ‘Sonny’ Higuera
The memorial service for Emil "Sonny" Higuera will be at 1 p.m. today at Trail Christian Fellowship.

Mr. Higuera, 74, of Medford, died Sunday (July 27, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born May 27, 1929, in San Francisco. On Feb. 18, 1951, in Oakland, Calif., he married Floria Nigro, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1986 from San Leandro, Calif.

Mr. Higuera was an automobile mechanic, retiring in 1986.

He served in the U.S. Army Paratroopers.

Mr. Higuera enjoyed woodworking, reading, camping and motorcycling.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Deborah Wolfe, Castro Valley, Calif., and Linda Smith, Hayward, Calif.; a son, Doug, Medford; three sisters, Dorothea Davis, Diane Calderon and Shirley Esquerra; a brother, Bill Callison; six grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Christopher and Joseph; and a brother, Raymond.

Ethel Brisbin
The funeral for Ethel Brisbin will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park in Medford.

Mrs. Brisbin, 87, of Rogue River, died Friday (July 25, 2003) at her family’s home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Feb. 5, 1916, in Warren, Okla., to Woodson and Nannie (Settles) McDoniel. She attended Jackson County School in Blair, Okla. On Dec. 24, 1935, in Blair, she married Hubert Alexander Brisbin, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Brisbin was a homemaker. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1989 from Madera, Calif.

She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and puzzles.

Survivors include a son, Bud, El Sobrante, Calif.; two daughters, Linda Guillemette, Gold Hill, and Marlene Valenzuela, Sacramento, Calif.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a sister, Emily Ard; three brothers, Woodson, Punk and Hershell McDoniel; and a grandson, Steven Williams.

Clister ‘Martha’ Celmer
The memorial service for Clister "Martha" Celmer will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Medford. The Rev. Charles Christopher will officiate. The interment ceremony will be held in September. Her ashes will be placed next to her husband’s at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salinas, Calif.

Mrs. Celmer, 85, of Medford, died July 18, 2003, at Dempsey Residential Care in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2600 Siskiyou Blvd., Suite 100, Medford, OR 97504, or to a favorite charity.

She was born Dec. 29, 1917, in Millport, Ala., the youngest of 11 children of William B. and Willie Waldrop McDaniel. She became a registered nurse in 1940 after graduating from Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Birmingham, Ala. In 1940, she joined the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of second lieutenant. On April 2, 1943, in Honolulu, she married Lt. Theodore "Ted" B. Celmer, who preceded her in death. She received a bachelor’s degree in nursing education from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., in 1952.

She lived in Fort Benning, Ga., Spokane, Wash., Washington, D.C., Germany, and Salinas, Calif., where her husband retired from the 7th Army Infantry in Fort Ord, Calif. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 2001 to be near her daughter and her family.

Mrs. Celmer served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1943, and was an Army nurse from 1943 to 1947. She became a surgical supervisor for Monterey County in California in the mid-1960s, and was a public health nurse in Monterey County from 1968 to 1971. In later years, she was an active hospice volunteer.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salinas, Calif., and the Salinas Hospice Association.

Mrs. Celmer enjoyed cooking, gardening and swimming.

Survivors include a daughter, Jeanne K. Butterbaugh, Medford; a son, Ted P., Bellevue, Wash.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Theodore B. Celmer; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Helen Grace Gardipee
The graveside service for Helen Grace Gardipee was held Tuesday at Eagle Point National cemetery. Dr. Ralph Wilson officiated.

Mrs. Gardipee, 83, of Medford, died Friday (July 25, 2003) at Three Fountains Nursing Center, Medford.

Her age was incorrect in Monday’s obituary.

Floyd Bateman Whillock
The graveside service for Floyd Bateman Whillock will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

Mr. Whillock, 76, of Medford, died Friday (July 25, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 29, 1926, in Medford, to Floyd and Martha (Bateman) Whillock.

Mr. Whillock worked in sawmills in the timber industry all of his life. He was a lifelong Rogue Valley resident.

He was a cook in the U.S. Army

Survivors include two sons, Robert P. Whillock and Ivan S. Owings, both Medford; two daughters, Brenda J. Wold, Medford, and Jane A. Hopkins, Reno, Nev.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, Medford.

Constance ‘Connie’ Schauer
The funeral for Constance "Connie" Schauer will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mrs. Schauer, 97, of Medford, died Monday (July 28, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 1, 1906, in Grants Pass, to Henry and Myrtle Andrews. She married Karl Schauer, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Schauer worked as a secretary for the Jackson County Court and a local high school. She also ran the K.C. Motel on North Riverside Avenue in Medford.

She was a lifelong Rogue Valley resident and enjoyed gardening and dancing.

Survivors include a niece, Evelyn Pickerrell, Daly City, Calif.; one grandniece; two grandnephews; and several great-grandnieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Andrews.

Vance Alton Pearce
The memorial service for Vance Alton Pearce will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Table Rock Church of Christ in Central Point. Pastor Carlos Pena will officiate. Inurnment will be at Logtown cemetery in Jacksonville.

Mr. Pearce, 88, of Central Point, died July 21, 2003, at his son’s home in Jacksonville.

Among his survivors is a son, Bob Titus, Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jon Titus.

Alice E. Briery
The funeral for Alice Elizabeth Briery will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Interment will follow at Hill Dunn cemetery in Ashland.

Mrs. Briery, 84, of Pacifica, Calif., formerly of Ashland, died July 21, 2003, at her home.

She was born March 8, 1919, in Pueblo, Colo., to Margaret and Jesse Grever. On Sept. 18, 1935, in Eads, Colo., she married John Henry Briery II, who died in 1977. She moved to Ashland in 1962 from Santa Cruz, Calif.

Mrs. Briery worked at Rogue Valley Packing for many years. She also worked as a beautician in Talent for several years. She moved to Pacifica in 1987.

She was an avid square dancer and a member of the Christian Church of Ashland. She was known as "Aunt Toots" by her many nieces and nephews.

Survivors include a son, John Henry III, Pacifica; a daughter, Sandra Wells, Ashland; five brothers, Charlie Grever, Santa Cruz, Zane Grever, Lodi, Calif., Douglas Grever, Caldwell, Idaho, and John Grever and Bruce Grever, both Middleton, Idaho; three sisters, Luda Latham, Middleton, Peggy Breuner and Barbara Bale, both Caldwell; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home in Ashland.

Nellie Frances Englehart
The funeral for Nellie Frances Englehart will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Memory Gardens Mortuary in Medford. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn of Providence Hospice will officiate. Interment will be in Eagle Point National cemetery.

Mrs. Englehart, 69, of Medford, died Saturday (July 26, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 W. Sixth St., Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Nellie Buchanan on Aug. 13, 1933, in Los Angeles. On Aug. 8, 1959, in Compton, Calif., she married Joseph "Joe" Edward Englehart, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1972 from San Jose, Calif.

Mrs. Englehart was a homemaker and had worked in electronics in San Jose. She worked for Bear Creek Corp. and then Rogue Valley Medical Center in the custodial department.

She was a member of Faith Bible Center in Medford.

Mrs. Englehart enjoyed RV travel.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include five sons, Tim A., Medford, Tom J., Jacksonville, Charles J., White City, David M., Grants Pass, and Joe, Riverside, Calif.; two daughters, Donna M. Ford, Central Point, and Diane Tombyll, Riverside, Calif.; a brother, Danny Buchanan, Norwalk, Calif.; 27 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Tommy Englehart Jr.; a granddaughter, Holly Ford; two sisters and three brothers.

William Jerome ‘Bill’ Moody
The funeral Mass for William Jerome "Bill" Moody will be at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Medford Chapel.

Mr. Moody, 71, of Medford, died Sunday (July 27, 2003) at his home.

He was born April 5, 1932, in Helena, Mont. His adoptive parents, William Justice and Margaret Purcell Moody, preceded him in death. On July 2, 1965, in Reno, Nev., he married Gloria M., who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1983 from the Lincoln City and Salem areas.

Mr. Moody owned and operated Wil-Ho Construction and Cherry City Excavation in Salem.

During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army with the 16th Infantry Rangers.

Mr. Moody was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the South Central A.A.

He enjoyed golf. He was employed by Stewart Meadows Golf Course and served as vice president of the Stewart Meadows Men’s Club for seven years.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Ken Nivens, Salem; a daughter, Rhonda Schafer, Salem; three grandsons; and one granddaughter.

Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Medford Chapel.

Julius Archibald ‘Arch’ Colbrunn Jr.
Julius Archibald "Arch" Colbrunn Jr., M.D., 85, of Medford, died Tuesday (July 29, 2003). The memorial service will be held in Roseburg at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Aug. 8, 1917, in Memphis, Tenn., to Julius Archibald Colbrunn Sr. and Jennie Alvia Clark Colbrunn. On Aug. 25, 1943, in Salem, he married Floydine Ellenora Ringo, who survives.

He received a bachelor’s degree from Memphis State Teachers College in 1936, his M.D. (doctor of medicine) from the University of Tennessee Medical School in 1942, and his graduate degree in radiology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1948.

Dr. Colbrunn was a pioneer in the field of radiology and was the first Oregon radiologist south of Eugene. He practiced in Roseburg from 1949 until his retirement in 1981. In retirement, he volunteered as a medical missionary at McCormick Hospital in Chiang Mai, Thailand. He moved to Medford in 1996 to be near his daughters.

Dr. Colbrunn was a founding member of the Pacific Northwest Radiological Society, a member and fellow of the Radiological Society of North America, and an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. His lifelong interest was in improving quality radiological training and certification standards, and accrediting radiologic technician schools.

During World War II, he served as a major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling to other countries.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Nancy Steffan and Carol Stark, both Medford; a son, Charles, Longwood, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.

Bernice Gorden
A memorial service for Bernice Gorden will be at 2 p.m. Monday, at the First United Methodist Church, 607 W. Main St., Medford. Rev. Darey Burkhalter of the Methodist Church will officiate. A private family graveside service will take place preceding the memorial service.

Mrs. Gorden 95, of Central Point, died Wednesday (Aug. 6, 2002) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to: The First United Methodist Church, 607 W. Main St., Medford, OR. 97504.

Mrs. Gorden was born on Sept. 13, 1907 in Quickville, KS., a daughter of Francis and Irene (Dorland) Dressler. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1912 from Kansas.

On Oct. 16, 1926 in Medford she married Lester Gorden, who preceded her in death.

She attended Medford High School from 1921 to 1925.

Mrs. Gorden was a member of the Central Point Garden Club, the Central Point Grange, and the United Methodist Church.

She was a Master Judge for the National Council of State Garden Clubs. She was president for several terms of the Central Point Garden Club.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Gorden enjoyed sewing, gardening, and her family.

Survivors include; two sons, Theron and Milton Gorden; a daughter, Thais Pacey; two sisters, Enid Dew and Hazel James; two sister-in-laws, Helen Dressler, and Marie Dolby; 11 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
