Marialena ‘Bunny’ J. Viramontes
The memorial service for Marialena "Bunny" J. Viramontes will be at 5 p.m. today at Hillcrest Chapel in Medford. Pastor Mike Brown of Table Rock Fellowship will officiate.

Mrs. Viramontes, 53, of Medford, died Thursday (July 24, 2003) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Table Rock Fellowship, P.O. Box 5600, Central Point, OR 97502.

She was born June 29, 1950, in Westwood, Calif., to John Adolph Schwartz and Leoma Grace (Duff) Sanchez. She moved to the Rogue Valley 35 years ago from California. On Feb. 26, 1972, in Medford, she married Evelio M. Viramontes, who survives.

Mrs. Viramontes was an account executive at Bear Creek Corp., handling preferred customers’ accounts for 25 years.

She was a member of Table Rock Fellowship.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Moira Lee, Medford; her mother, Leoma Sanchez, New Ulm, Minn.; a sister, Gayla Robles, San Diego, Calif.; and six brothers, Alberto Sanchez, Elma, Wash., Kim Sanchez, Lakeside, Calif., Rodney Sanchez, New Ulm, Minn., Tracy Sanchez, Lafayette, Minn., and Gary Schwartz and Terry Schwartz, both in Florida.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, Medford.

Ramona R. Palmer
The graveside service for Ramona R. Palmer will be at noon Wednesday at Sterns cemetery in Talent.

Mrs. Palmer, 63, of Rogue River, died Sunday (July 27, 2003) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lovejoy Hospice, 939 S.E. Eighth St., Grants Pass, OR 97526.

She was born Ramona Rose Butler on Feb. 16, 1940, in Springfield, Mo., and grew up in Wichita, Kan. On Oct. 4, 1957, in Newkirk, Okla., she married Robert H. Palmer, who survives. They moved to Rogue River in 1989 from Modesto, Calif.

Mrs. Palmer was a homemaker.

She was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Central Point.

Mrs. Palmer enjoyed reading and her pets.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four daughters, Cathy L., Rogue River, Bobby H., Grants Pass, Holly A. Johnson, in Nevada, and Karen Welch, in California; a brother, Charles P. Butler, Modesto, Calif.; a sister, Carol Sitzler, in California; six grandchildren; and one great- grandchild.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Emil ‘Sonny’ Higuera
The memorial service for Emil "Sonny" Higuera will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Trail Christian Fellowship.

Mr. Higuera, 74, of Medford, died Sunday (July 27, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Evelyn R. Woods
A celebration of the life of Evelyn R. Woods will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bateman Funeral Home, 915 N.E. Yaquina Heights Drive, Newport. Family members will officiate.

Mrs. Woods, 89, of Central Point, died Friday (July 25, 2003) at Auburn Care Center in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

She was born June 29, 1914, in Mineral Springs, Mo., to Dan and Edna (Warren) Holliday. On April 29, 1931, in Cassville, Mo., she married Francis Woods, who died in 1984. In 1940, they moved from Missouri to the Wheeler County community of Kinzua. In 1957, they left Kinzua and moved to Portland.

In 1964, they left Portland and moved to the Lincoln County community of Toledo, where Mrs. Woods lived and sold real estate until 1984. She lived in other Oregon towns and settled in Vancouver, Wash., in 1995. She lived there until moving to Central Point in 2001.

She was a member of the Church of Christ and the Toledo Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include three sons, Joe, Columbia City, Jerry, Chehalis, Wash., and Lonnie, Vancouver, Wash.; two daughters, Patsy Hoover, Fossil, and Dixie Samples, Central Point; two sisters, Dorothy Sizemore and Margie Sizemore, both Clackamas; and at least 60 grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers; two sisters; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.

Peggy J. Logan-Hall
The memorial service for Peggy J. Logan-Hall will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at The Ministry Center, 1025 Court St., Medford.

Mrs. Logan-Hall, 55, of Medford, died Friday (July 25, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pastor Peggy Logan Memorial Fund for Uganda Orphaned Children at any Washington Mutual Bank.

She was born Peggy Logan on Aug. 3, 1947, in Tacoma, Wash. On Dec. 12, 1992, in Medford, she married Alan Hall, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Klamath Falls, where she taught school.

Mrs. Logan-Hall was the senior pastor at House of Worship in Medford for the past 12 years. She previously taught school, held a real estate license and taught piano. She authored three books, wrote and recorded worship music, had a program on the Rogue Valley public TV channel, and in January began a ministry for orphaned children in Fort Portal, Uganda.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Rick VerSteeg, Roseburg, and Jim VerSteeg, Medford; a daughter, Jody VerSteeg, Medford; her mother, Dollie Logan, Vancouver, Wash.; two sisters, Meda Logan and Sheri Tillett, both Vancouver; a brother, Jim Logan, Longview, Wash.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Logan.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Vernon Virgil Murray
Private interment for Vernon Virgil Murray will be in New Castle cemetery in New Castle, Calif.

Mr. Murray, 73, of Gold Hill, died Sunday (July 27, 2003) in Medford.

He was born Oct. 11, 1929, in Clayton, Okla., to Harrison and Lavina (Hughes) Murray.

Mr. Murray was a carpenter for 40 years and an ordained minister for 30 years. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 2000 from Oklahoma City.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and work.

Survivors include his wife, Elanore, Oklahoma City; three daughters, Lynn, Boon, Iowa, Twila McKelfish, in Arkansas, and Gina Marston, Oklahoma City; three sons, Tim, Gold Hill, Perry, Portland, and Jeff, Lincoln, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer.

Charles Duane Brazille
The funeral for Charles Duane Brazille will be at 11 a.m. today at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home in Grants Pass. Family members will officiate. Interment will be at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Brazille, 79, of Grants Pass, died Saturday (July 5, 2003) at his home.

He was born March 27, 1924, in Selma, to Christina and John Brazille. On Sept. 4, 1946, in Reno, Nev., he married Ruth E. Ream, who died in 1992. They lived in Hugo until her death.

Mr. Brazille worked as a logger until a logging accident forced his retirement in 1980.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 35th Infantry Division. Among his awards was the Philippine Liberation Medal with a Bronze service star.

Mr. Brazille was an avid reader. He enjoyed his family, hunting and the outdoors.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Abreu, Grants Pass, and Jackie Gray, Wolf Creek; seven sons, Charles, Terry, Richard, Art, Danny, Jeff and Harold, all Grants Pass; four sisters, Bernie Kolkow, Irene Kolkow, and Julia Brownfield, all Grants Pass, and JoAnne Fry, Coos Bay; a brother, John, Eugene; 26 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ed, Martin and Carl.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Lola Dawkins Campbell
A dinner in memory of Lola Dawkins Campbell will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at Illinois Valley Pentecostal Church, 2110 Caves Highway, Cave Junction. The memorial service will follow at 6:30 p.m. Pastor Wendell Owens will officiate.

Mrs. Campbell, 76, of Grants Pass, died Thursday (July 3, 2003) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tupelo Children’s Mission, P.O. Box 167, Tupelo, MS 38802.

She was born May 25, 1927, in Clinton, Okla., to Harry and Edith Dougherty. Her family moved to Medford when she was 7. She graduated from Medford High School in 1946 and attended George Fox University for two years.

Mrs. Campbell taught Sunday School for several years at the Illinois Valley Pentecostal Church.

She enjoyed helping others and singing gospel hymns.

Survivors include two sons, Chuck Vanderpool, Central Point, and Harry Vanderpool, Salem; two sisters, Lilian Loika, in Wisconsin, and Loveda Weatherby, in Idaho; a brother, Harry Dougherty, in Idaho; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three husbands; and a son, Fred Vanderpool.

‘Hank’ Herman D. Cannon
The graveside service for "Hank" Herman D. Cannon will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eagle Point National cemetery Interment Shelter. Chaplain John Braund of Rogue Valley Hospice will officiate.

Mr. Cannon, 63, of Talent, died Friday (July 4, 2003) at his home.

He was born Oct. 3, 1939, in South Gate, Calif., to Herman and Hallie Cannon. His family moved to the Rogue Valley when he was 2˝ . Except for the eight years he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, he was a lifelong Rogue Valley resident.

Mr. Cannon worked briefly for Timber Products, then worked as a signal specialist for Southern Pacific Railroad.

He was an avid numismatist and enjoyed small scale train collecting. He also enjoyed his dog, Woo.

Survivors include his daughter, Jessica Bertrand, Medford; and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two brothers, "Bud" and Edward; and a sister, Patsy Lou Cannon.

Herta Chamberlain Teisheira
The memorial service for Herta Chamberlain Teisheira will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Eagle Point National cemetery. Pastor Christopher White of Trail Christian Fellowship will officiate.

Mrs. Chamberlain, 81, of Central Point, died July 2, 2003, at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born July 17, 1921, in Papacyn, Germany. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1970 from San Mateo, Calif. On June 1, 1996, in White City, she married Fred Teisheira, who survives.

Mrs. Teisheira was a homemaker and a member of the Medford Eagles Lodge.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Michael Harms, Central Point.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.

Donald ‘Jim’ James Laibe
A celebration of the life of Donald "Jim" James Laibe will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at his home.

Mr. Laibe, 69, of Jacksonville, died Saturday (July 5, 2003) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born May 25, 1934, in Lima, Ohio. He graduated from Arizona State University, and moved to the Rogue Valley 28 years ago from Arizona.

Mr. Laibe worked for United Pipe and Supply in Medford selling water systems.

He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.

Survivors include his companion, Patricia "Pat" Robertson, Jacksonville; two sons, Donald J. Jr., and Jeffery, both Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Leigh Ann Duclos, in Mississippi; a stepson, Jody James Robertson, Cornelius; his father, Eugene P., Carefree, Ariz.; a brother, George, Antioch, Tenn.; a sister, Eleanor Jane Zuda, Deaver, Wyo.; and 11 grandchildren.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

William A. Hoxie
William A. Hoxie, 86, of Medford, died Friday (July 4, 2003) at a foster care home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born March 11, 1917, in Ashland, to Johnson Eugene and LaVilla Hoxie. He attended Southern Oregon State College, now Southern Oregon University. In 1946, in Vancouver, Wash., he married Ruby Kretschmar, who died in 1982. He was a lifelong Rogue Valley resident.

Mr. Hoxie worked for Reed Barton Investments, retiring in 1980.

His National Guard unit was activated in 1940. He then transferred to the U.S. Army Air Corps where he was a transport pilot.

Mr. Hoxie enjoyed sports, reading and crossword puzzles.

Survivors include a stepson, Charles McDonald, in Texas; a brother, Harry, Ashland; and one step-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister, Opal Devorraux; and two brothers, Rainer and Louis.

Jennifer Lynn Hartman
Jennifer Lynn Hartman, 34, of Medford, died June 26, 2003, at her home. The service will be on Aug. 9 and will be announced by mailed invitation.

She was born Aug. 11, 1968, in Northridge, Calif., to Ronald and Sharon (Rosson) Tate. She attended Hart High School in Valencia, Calif. In August 1985, in Canoga Park, Calif., she married Joseph Hartman.

They later divorced. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1991 from Long Beach, Calif.

Ms. Hartman enjoyed her children, music, reading and laughing.

Survivors include two daughters, Jessica and Jillian Hartman; her parents, Ronald and Sharon Tate; two sisters, Debbie and Barbie Tate; a brother, Mike Howard; and two grandchildren.
