James ‘Jim’ Everett Rose
James "Jim" Everett Rose, 44, of Medford, died May 2, 2003, in Sacramento, Calif. The memorial service was held May 10 at the Church of Christ in Gold Beach. Ed Knapp officiated.

He was born Nov. 7, 1958, in North Bend. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975 and attended elementary school in Ashland and schools in Medford. On June 24, 1994, in Reno, Nev., he married Michele C. Jackson, who survives.

Mr. Rose was a mill worker for Boise Cascade in White City for 15 years.

He attended Applegate Christian Fellowship.

Mr. Rose enjoyed spending time with his wife and stepchildren, Brandt, Branden and Brittanie Summers, walking on the beach, weightlifting and stand-up comedy and poetry.

Survivors include his wife, Michele C. Rose, Medford; a son, Alex, in Arizona; two stepsons, Brandt Michael Summers and Branden Richard Summers, both of Medford; three daughters, Salina, Robin and Rachel, all in Arizona; and a stepdaughter, Brittanie Richele Summers, Medford; his mother, Marlene M. Duffy, Central Point; his father and stepmother, John A. and Rita Rose, North Bend; two brothers, Jerry, Estacada, and Gary, Vancouver, Wash.; a half- brother, Brett, Gold Beach; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley, Roseville, Calif.

Oweta Richardson
Oweta Richardson, 87, of Medford, died Wednesday (June 11, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private graveside service was held. Pastor Bob Gass of Harvest Baptist Temple in Medford officiated. Interment was at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Center, 228 N. Holly St., Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Oweta Medart on Oct. 28, 1915, in Pearl, Texas. On Sept. 14, 1937, in Gatesville, Texas, she married Earl M. Richardson, who died in 1989. They moved to the Rogue Valley more than 60 years ago.

Mrs. Richardson was a homemaker and a volunteer at the Southern Oregon Blind Center for many years. She enjoyed working with the blind and attended five international conventions in Mexico City, Las Vegas, Hawaii and Dallas, Texas. She had been a member of the Lioness Club since 1956, and served as state secretary in 1976. She was also a member of the Lone Pine Extension for many years.

She was an outdoorswoman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling.

Survivors include a son, Bill, Medford; two brothers, Jack and Otha Medart, both in Texas; two sisters, Valla Gene Apel and Oma Lee Coward, both in Texas; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a twin sister, Oveta; and a brother, Otis Medart.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Edward Jack Parker
Edward Jack Parker, 67, of Medford, died Thursday (June 12, 2003) at his home. A private service will be held.

He was born July 12, 1935, in Medford, to Joseph Sam and Myrtle M. Parker. He was a lifetime Rogue Valley resident and attended Howard Elementary, Medford High School and Rogue Community College. On July 3, 1965, in Medford, he married Patsy Parker. They later divorced.

Mr. Parker was a firefighter and mill worker.

He served in the U.S. Navy for four years aboard the USS St. Paul.

Mr. Parker enjoyed computers, golf, bowling and parenting.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph J. and Dennis K.; a daughter, Lesley D. Lamb; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice M. Parker and Myrtle M. Parker.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Robert H. Montgomery
The memorial service for Robert H. Montgomery will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at Eastwood Baptist Church in Medford. A celebration of life will follow in the church reception area.

Mr. Montgomery, 71, of Medford, formerly of Scottsburg, Ind., died May 25, 2003, at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.

Born in Scott County, Ind., he graduated from Scottsburg High School in Scottsburg, Ind., in 1950. In 1951, he married Norma J. Broady, who survives. He later received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in agriculture from Purdue University.

Mr. Montgomery retired as a federal soil scientist from the Bureau of Reclamation in 1992. He moved to Medford in 1999 from Denver.

He was a member of the Soil Conservation Society of America and received several awards for his work as a soil scientist.

Survivors, include his wife, Norma J., Medford; two sons, Michael, John Day, and Greg, Portland; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Alice Meyer Grimes
Alice Meyer Grimes, 67, of White City, died June 1, 2003, at Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jackson County Library, 413 W. Main St., Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Feb. 2, 1936, in Medford, to Harry and Pearl (Boussum) Meyers. She was a graduate of Medford High School and lived in the Rogue Valley for 60 years. On April 26, 1956, in Lewiston, Calif., she married John W. Grimes, who died in 1996.

Mrs. Grimes was a librarian at the Jackson County Library for 32 years, retiring in 1998.

She was a member of Gamma Zeta and was recognized as Woman of the Year by the Cascade Butte Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association.

Mrs. Grimes served on the Southern Oregon Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association Board, was a 20-year volunteer with the Children’s Festival and was active in the Storytelling Guild.

Survivors include a son, Raymond J., Guthrie, Okla.; a brother, Tom Puckett, Grants Pass; two sisters, Ruth Gillum, Taft, Calif., and LaVern Poole, Houston; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.

Norman George Shannon
Norman George Shannon, 85, of Medford, died Wednesday (June 4, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 33 N. Central Ave., Suite 428, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born April 12, 1918, in Lennox, Calif. On June 24, 1939, in Glendale, Calif., he married R. June Howell, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1965 from Los Angeles.

Mr. Shannon owned and operated Tele-Radio Service in Hollywood, Calif., for 20 years. In Oregon, he was the service manager at Sears from 1965 to 1980.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Shannon was a member of the Moose Lodge.

He enjoyed golf, fishing, water skiing and snow skiing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Janice Monahan, Medford, and Denise Shannon, Medford; a son, Glen, Denver; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Helen Marie Neth
Helen Marie Neth, 87, of Santa Clarita, Calif., died Wednesday (June 4, 2003) at Waterford at Three Fountains in Medford. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions can be made to Providence Home Health, 1180 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born April 15, 1916, in Albany, to Franklin and Hester (Adams) Way. In April 1957, in Los Angeles, she married Arthur Neth, who died in 1974.

Mrs. Neth was a secretary for a real estate company in California for 12 years. She moved to the Rogue Valley in April 2003.

She enjoyed golf and needlepoint.

Survivors include two brothers, Dean E. Way, Medford, and Charles R. Way, La Pine. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Way, and two infant brothers.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.

Helen Margaret Hughes
A private graveside service is scheduled at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford for Helen Margaret Hughes.

Mrs. Hughes, 95, of Medford, died Friday (June 6, 2003) in Medford.

She was born Feb. 10, 1908, in Farmington, Mo. On Oct. 1, 1926, in Farmington, she married Harry S. Hughes, who preceded her in death.

She lived in Denver and moved to the Rogue Valley in 1967.

Mrs. Hughes was a department manager for JC Penney for 30 years in St. Louis, Denver and Medford.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Ryder of Canyonville, and a son, Harry Hughes Jr. of Colorado.

Mrs. Hughes had nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Alan Randall Hughes.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary.

Robert ‘Grizz’ L. Adams
The memorial service for Robert "Grizz" LeRoy Adams will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Williams Community Church. Pastor Rob Culton will officiate. Private inurnment will be at Mountain View cemetery in Ashland.

Mr. Adams, 81, of Williams, died May 28, 2003, at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Williams Community Church, 228 E. Fork Road, Williams, OR 97544 or to Lovejoy Hospice, 939 S.E. Eighth St., Grants Pass, OR 97526.

He was born Oct. 9, 1921, in White Pine, Mont. He attended Ashland Junior High and High School and obtained his GED in 1957. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1939 and served as a chief machinist mate second class during World War II. On Dec. 3, 1942, in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, he married Mary "May" Rebecca Stone, who died in 1957. He returned to the United States with his family on the HMS Queen Mary in 1945.

In 1946, he worked for Beagle’s Lumber Mill in Ashland. From 1947 to 1948, he worked at Harrison’s Auto Parts in Ashland. In 1949 he began his civil service career at Camp White. He moved to Seattle in 1951 and worked for the Veterans Hospital, Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Keyport Naval Torpedo Station over a span of 25 years.

On Dec. 11, 1959, in Bremerton, Wash., he married June Ann Lott, who survives. He retired in 1976 with 32 years of service as a power plant controlman.

In Poulsbo, Wash., Mr. Adams worked at Lucky’s Auto Parts, did commercial farming, and owned B & B Hay. He and his wife moved to Williams in 1976 from Poulsbo.

He was involved in many organizations in his community. In 1977, he joined the all-volunteer Williams Fire Department and became assistant fire chief. He was the first paid fire chief from 1984 to 1989. He was a charter member of the Williams Quick Response Team and Williams American Legion Post 50. He was also a member of Williams Community Church.

Mr. Adams enjoyed fishing, hunting, RV travel and collecting firefighter paraphernalia.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four daughters, Lavilla Ashby, Medford, Cheryl Williams, and Ethel Adams both Williams, and Emerald "Pat" Alexander, Orlando, Fla.; a son, Richard Adams, Williams, a brother, Bob Crook, Brookings; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, David Lott; two brothers, Dale and Bud Adams; a sister, Betty Reedy; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

Arrangements: Southern Oregon Cremation Services, Grants Pass.

Marion Margaret Lowery
The memorial service for Marion Margaret Lowery will be at 11 am. Sunday. Meet at the parking lot of Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant in Shady Cove.

Ms. Lowery, 68, of Medford, died Friday (June 6, 2003) at Hearthstone.

She was born Dec. 19, 1934, in Philadelphia, to Harry and Margaret (Sauer) Richardson. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1971 from Colorado.

Ms. Lowery enjoyed cooking, painting and gardening.

Survivors include two sons, Steve Gonzalez, in Alaska, and Jim Gonzalez, in Seattle; a daughter, Pam Gonzalez, in Spain; a sister, Vivian Stahnke, Portland; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.

Grete Kohlmann Sutin
Grete Kohlmann Sutin, 86, of Medford, died May 31, 2003, at Rogue Valley Medical Center of complications of colitis. Interment was held Wednesday at Hebrew Memorial Park cemetery near Detroit, Mich.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorder Association, Southern Oregon Chapter, 33 N. Central Ave., Suite 330, Medford, OR 97501, or to a favorite charity.

She was born May 8, 1917, in Mosbach, Germany, the youngest of three daughters of Adolph Kohlmann. After the Nazis came to power, she fled to Holland when she was 18. She learned cooking at a work camp in Holland, where she met Alexander "Sacha" Sutin. They were married in January 1936.

The Sutins moved to England in 1938 and then immigrated to the United States, first to New York, then to the Detroit area.

Mrs. Sutin returned to work in the early 1960s, first as a market researcher for various consumer products and services, then as a sales associate in retail housewares.

She enjoyed travel, entertaining and playing bridge with her friends.

Survivors include a son, Philip, Olivette, Mo.; a daughter, Vivian Stubblefield, Ashland; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland.
