Brenda Lea Dressler
A memorial service for Brenda Lee Dressler will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at Ruch Community Church, 190 Upper Applegate Road. Rev. Ron McKay will officiate.

Brenda, 38, of White City, died Saturday (Jan. 10, 2004) Providence Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fibromyalgia Foundation.

She was born Sept. 21, 1965 in Medford.

Brenda was a animal lover, she loved to train horses, as well as dogs and cats, and cockatiel birds.

She enjoyed camping and the outdoors.

Survivors include; her parents, Earl and Edie Ruthstrom of White City; a sister, Cindy S. Brown of Central Point; a brother, James Sabin of Medford; a cousin Kevin Colley who was like a brother; two children, Jesse Brown and Courtney Brown both of Central Point; step-sister, Vickie Howell of Gold Hill; two step-brothers, Rodney Ruthstrom, and Russell Ruthstrom, both of Medford. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, two uncles, Don Suttle and Stanley Suttle, and one cousin, Sonny Suttle.

Catherine 'Kitty' M. Dudek
Catherine "Kitty" M. (Griggs) Dudek, 80, of Home, PA, died Sunday (January 11 2004) at Scenery Hill Manor in Indiana, PA.

The daughter of Mark Twain and Juanita Grace (Walkousky) Griggs, she was born on July 24, 1923 in Riddle Oregon. She is survived by her two sons: Craig Dudek of Charleston, S.C., and Kevin M. Dudek and wife Anna of Home, PA; two granddaughters: Leila Matts and husband Joe of DuBois, PA and Sherri Dudek of Home, PA; two great-granddaughters: Elizabeth and Sandra Matts. She is also survived by her sister Virginia Comer of Venice, FL and brother Mark Griggs of Winter Haven, FL. Mrs. Dudek was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Eleanor Donny.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. at 18944 Route 286 Hwy East, Hillsdale, PA. An 8 p.m. funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 14, 2004. Joseph Traynor will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to Scenery Hill Manor.

Dennis J. Zurlinden
The memorial service for Dennis Zurlinden, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, in the Conger-Morris Chapel, Medford. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn of Providence Hospice will officiate.

Mr. Zurlinden, 59, of Central Point, died Wednesday (Jan. 7, 2004) at his home.

He was born on July 13, 1944, in Oregon City, OR. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975 from Bolinas, CA.

Mr. Zurlinden served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He worked as a salesman for the Automobile Association of Oregon.

Mr. Zurlinden was a avid bowler and supporter of youth bowling at Medford Lanes and Lava Lanes.

Survivors include two sons, Zachariah and Elijah Zurlinden both of Central Point; three sisters, Jackie Johnston of Sacramento, CA, Judy Smith of Roy, Utah, and Berta Pulsipher of Denver, CO. Arrangements: Conger-Morris, Central Point Chapel.

Donna Lee Blankenship
Donna Lee Blankenship, 79, a former long time resident of Ashland, OR. died of natural causes at her residence in Klamath Falls, OR. on Saturday (January 10, 2004). Disposition was by Pyramid Cremations. Formal funeral services will not be held. A private family inurnment will be held at the Mt. View cemetery in Ashland at a later date.

Those wishing to do so may send contributions in memory of Mrs. Blankenship to Klamath Hospice, Inc., 437 Main Street, Klamath Falls, OR., 97601 or to PanCAN, 2221 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite # 131, El Segundo, CA 90245.

She was born May 26, 1924 in Miami, OK. to Donald R. & Mable E. (Landers) Sweem. She graduated from Southgate High School. She moved to Los Angeles in 1936 and to Ashland in 1946. She was married in Ashland to Wesley ."Wess" Blankenship in 1947.

While living in Ashland, Donna worked in real estate and established a very successful career prior to moving to Klamath Falls in 1975. Donna & Wess moved to Klamath Falls to assist in the family business at the A & W drive in restaurant. She retired in 1986.

Donna was a member of the Klamath Kruisers.

In addition to her husband Wess of Klamath Falls she is survived by her son, Jeff Blankenship of Tillamook, OR; and her daughter & son-in-law Lea and Dale Bowles of Klamath Falls; a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Betty Sweem of Shady Cove, OR; and grandchildren, Cydne Bowels of Corvallis, OR., Zack Bowles of Klamath Falls and a niece Becky Gratsinger of Newberg, OR. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Jack Sween.

Elvir Kathleen Austin
Elvir Kathleen Austin, 83, of Medford, died January 10, 2004.

Elvir was born December 20, 1920 in Wood Lake, Nebraska to Glenn and Edith (McNare) Bidgood. She graduated from college in Prosser, Washington, in 1942 and started teaching school in Port Townsend, Wash. Elvir married a soldier from Fort Worden named Chester O. Austin on January 15, 1943. Elvir and Chet lived in Salem, Oregon for many years and raised four children. With a love of gardening, they raised acres of vegetables, fruit and berries. Elvir worked most of her career for the Salem-Keizer School District as a teacher and librarian. She moved to Medford in 1994. She enjoyed gardening, family history, genealogy and calligraphy.

Elvir was preceded in death by her husband, Chet; sister, Glenna Beryl Abrams; and brother, Wesley Craig Bidgood. Elvir is survived by her daughter, Joan Austin of Medford; sons, Lawrence Austin and Roger Austin of Salem; James Austin of Royse City, Texas; and their children and grandchildren.

Elvir was a wonderful person who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A private memorial service is to be held in Salem. Interment will be a Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem.

Marjorie H. Brannan
Marjorie passed away peacefully on Friday (Jan. 9, 2004) at Dempsey's Residential Care in Medford after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers.

Marjorie Helen Wooten was born April 14, 1910 in Saginaw, Texas to Arthur and Prudence Wooten. Marjorie was the youngest of five children, brothers, Johnny, Frank, Jim and sister Loleta now all deceased.

Her mother passed away when she was two years old, and until school age was raised with the help of her grandparents and aunts and uncles.

On Sept. 23, 1927 in Wichita, KS. she married Reuben E. Brannan who preceded her in death on March 6, 1985. They lived in Fort Worth, Texas for many years. While there they worked at Consolidated Aircraft where Marjorie was one of the original "Rosie the Riviters" assembling bombers to be used in WWII.

After moving to Talent, OR in Dec. 1945, she was employed for 27 years at Mann's Dept. Store, which later became Millers. She was the supervisor of the alterations dept and after retiring in 1972 continued to work at home for her favorite customers.

Marjorie was a founding member of the Ashland Elkettes and volunteered many hours to their charity work. She was an expert in making quilts which was one of their big fund raisers.

Before her illness, she loved trips to Reno, Seven Feathers and the coast. She was always ready to travel and have a good time.

She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Henry of Baker City, OR, Barbara Smead of Medford, and Glenda Mackay and son-in-law Butch of Florence, OR; four grandsons, Kevin Henry and Michael Henry both of Baker City, OR, Richard Young of Crescent City, CA, and Ronald Mackay of Phoenix, OR; three granddaughters, Cindy Johnson of Medford, Sheila Lee of White City and Margie Davenport of Salem, OR; 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Teri Young in 1959 and Teresa Henry in 1992.

Contributions in Mrs. Brannans name may be made to the Alzheimers' Assoc., 2860 State St. Medford, Or. 97504.

At this time there will be no service, but at a later date there will be a celebration of her life.

There was never anything more important to Mom than her three girls and their families.

Mom, your family will miss you and all the love you showered on us. Thank you for all the beautiful memories.

Marv Hatton
Marv Hatton made a peaceful transition on January 10 at his home in Medford. His wife Rhonda, Rhonda's mother Deana, son Jim and his wife Anita, were at his side. Marv is also survived by his sister Irma Klipping, 94 who lives in Illinois.

A celebration of Life is planned for Saturday January 17, at 1 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living located at, 1119 Ellen, Medford, Oregon.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.

Phyllis Elaine Willis Green
Phyllis Elaine Willis Green, 69, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, December 21, 2003 at her home.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2004 at her home. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to American Heart Association, Oregon Affiliate, 1425 N.E. Irving #100, Portland, OR 97232-4201.

She was born August 13, 1934 in Jacksonville, Oregon, where she was raised and attended schools. On April 27, 1977 in Reno, Nevada, she married Peter Green. She worked as a licensed practical nurse at Southern Oregon Hospital, Ashland Hospital, and an Ashland nursing home. She also was an adult foster care provider for many years. She lived most of her life in Jacksonville and had lived in Grants Pass for the last six years.

She belonged to the Royal Neighbors.

She especially enjoyed gaming at Seven Feathers, playing pinochle and other card games, and cooking.

In addition to her husband, Peter Green of Grants Pass, she is survived by a sister, Wilma Bray of Florence; a brother, Maurice McIntyre of Florence; three step-sons, Dempsey L. Willis of Grants Pass, G. W. Willis of Waco, Texas, and Gene Willis of Grants Pass; a step-daughter, Marlena Burton of Ponca City, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a nephew, Brad McIntyre of Center, Washington; and a niece, Chris Pringle of Anacortes, Washington.

Charles Leroy Cotten
1922-2003 Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Chuck lost his 2 year battle with cancer Tuesday, December 23, 2003. Chuck was born in Grand Junction, Colorado in 1922. In 1923, he moved to Compton, California with his parents.

He married Barbara June Robinson in 1940. They were married 63 years. He is also survived by a son, Gary Cotten of Havasu City, Arizona; a daughter, Linda Lindstrom of Whittier, California; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Elaine Strutridge of Oceanside and Norma Berry of National City, California.

Chuck served in the United States Army during World War II. He campaigned in 2 major battles in Central Europe and the Rhineland.

Upon returning home, he was in the welding business. He later owned a steel company in Compton, California. Prior to his retirement, he was the Goodwill Ambassador for Amweld until 1973 when he was forced to retire.

He and his wife, June, moved to the Mountain View Estates in Talent 14 years ago.

He will be greatly missed by all.

Faye L. Larimer
The memorial service for family and close friends of Faye L. Larimer will be at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Mrs. Larimer, 82, of Phoenix, died Dec. 19, 2003 at her home.

She was born Feb. 10, 1921 in Neligh, NE to Clarence and Cora (McMillan) Grubbs. On Sept. 2, 1938 in Grants Pass she married Warren G. Larimer, who survives.

Mrs. Larimer graduated from Ashland High School in 1937. She worked for Harry & David from 1951 to 1971 and then did volunteer work at Providence Hospital for 19 years.

She loved to cook and travel, especially to the Oregon Coast. Mrs. Larimer had been a Rogue Valley resident for the last 70 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: two daughters, Sharon Lesley and Linda Cooper, both of Medford; three grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Frank J. Reed
Frank J. Reed died at Rogue Valley Medical Center on Christmas morning. A private family memorial will be held at his home.

Frank was born July 25, 1938 in Seattle Washington. he worked in the wood industry for Timber Products and Boise Cascade. he spent four years in the Navy after graduating High School in Glendale, OR.

Frank is survived by his wife Diane; sons, Frank Jr. and Bill; one daughter, Dena Bucher; six grandchildren and one sister. He was preceded in death by his father Herb, his mother, Betty, and his brother, John.

Gunhild Marion Shurtz
Gunhild "Gunny" Marion Shurtz, 79, died December 25, 2003 at Farmington Square, Medford. A memorial service for family will be held December 29th at Ascension Lutheran Church at 11 a.m.

She was born Gunhild M. Backlund on November 14, 1924 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, daughter to Gunnar and Sigrid Backlund. She graduated from Kenosha High School and the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

On July 3, 1948 in Kenosha, WI, she married Bill Shurtz. Moving from Porterville, CA, she lived in the Rogue Valley since 1976. Gunny was a homemaker, mother, grandmother, while her husband, Bill, was the manager of JC Penney Stores, CA, retiring from the Medford store.

She enjoyed traveling, visiting the South Pacific, Scandinavia, Finland, Britain, Ireland, Italy, Sicily, Portugal, Spain, Yugoslavia, Greece, Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico.

She was a member of the A.A.U.W (American Association of University Woman), one-time president of Medford Club, and also a volunteer "Pink Lady" at RVMC.

Survivors include: husband, Bill Shurtz; children, Karen Parrish of Mercer Island, WA, Bill Jr. of Medford, and Patty Jurkovich of Porterville, CA; and 6 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home.

John M. Drew
John M. Drew died at his home Dec. 15, 2003 of natural causes. Services are to be held Dec. 30, 2003 at the Veteran's Memorial in Eagle Point at 3 p.m.

He leaves behind his wife of many years, Barbara Drew; 3 beautiful daughters, Lisa, Gina and Julie. John was also proud of his "Grand" children: Anthony, Cody, Daniel, Amber, and Amanda. He is also survived by his loyal friend and business partner, Dennis Roper.

A marine that will always be remembered and honored by all that were touched by his wisdom and "special quotes."

Johnie D. Hales
Loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Johnie D. Hales died December 24, 2003 at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born on July 20, 1921. She lived in the Rogue Valley, Shady Cove, for 25 years.

She loved to play bingo and was very involved in the VFW.

Survivors include, daughter Madeyline Kenniston; granddaughter, Shannon Heim and her 2 kids Rylee and Ashlee.

She will be missed by all the hearts that she has touched.
