Lawrence Leonard Clark
Former valley resident, Lawrence Leonard Clark, 95, died Wednesday, December 17, 2003 in Hillsboro, Oregon. No services are planned at this time.

Larry was born October 11, 1908 in Huntsburg, Ohio. He relocated to Portland in 1928 and began his 48 year career with First National Bank of Oregon. He attended Northwestern School of Law at night graduating in 1934. He has remained an honored alumni and attended luncheons annually until his death.

On September 13, 1936, Larry married Mae Feroglia, the love of his life, who preceded him in death in 2000. In 1953, they moved to Medford with their 3 children, Larry Jr. of Rancho Mirage, CA, Sandra Vandergaw of Anchorage, AK and Gini Vaughan of Tigard.

Retirement came for Larry in 1976. He and Mae enjoyed golf at Rogue Valley Country Club with their many friends. Larry touched many lives while residing in the Rogue Valley. He was a member of the Medford Rotary Club, Medford Water Commission, founding director of Rogue Valley Memorial Hospital, Treasurer and Elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church of which he and Mae were charter members and worked at the Pro Shop at Rogue Valley CC until 1997.

In 1997, Mae and Larry relocated to Hillsboro, OR where they resided in Rosewood Park Retirement Community. Larry continued his "community" involvement serving on the residents committee and participating in bridge, pinochle and stamping groups.

Larry will be remembered as a gentle person who always thought of others before himself. He made friends wherever he went. His caregivers were especially fond of his positive outlook and ready smile. He was a favorite of his grandchildren, he always had time for them. His one regret was not meeting his two adopted great-grandchildren from China. He insisted their pictures accompany him on his last journey to the hospital.

Larry is survived by his brother, Keith Clark, his 3 children, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Mary Elizabeth Voris
Mary Elizabeth Voris, 86, of Ashland, died Monday, December 22, 2003 at her home.

The Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Hall, 73 Winburn Way, Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Medford Gospel Mission and Providence Hospice.

She was born on September 18, 1917 in Clifton Forge, VA the daughter of Chalmers Charles and Grace (Miller) Walton, Sr. She was married to Robert William, who preceded her in death March 4, 1982. Moving from Arizona, she lived in the Rogue Valley area since 1950.

She enjoyed playing golf, tennis, and Duplicate Bridge. She was a member of the Gold Point Life Master American Contract Bridge League and a member of the Tudor Guild.

Survivors include: sons, Robert Leslie Voris of Sun Lake, AZ, and Randy Voris of Ashland; daughter, Lyn Conklin of Medford; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Nicholas Voris in 2003; grandson, Shane Conklin; 3 brothers; and her husband.

Nancy S. Blount
Nancy S. Blount, 77, of Phoenix, died December 23, 2003 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

The memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., December 29, 2004 at Phoenix Church of Christ, 411 First Street, Phoenix, OR. Ministers David Humphreys and Darold Hutsell will officiate.

Nancy was born April 9, 1926 in Hutchenson, Kansas. On August 20, 1947 in Los Angeles, CA, she married George Blount, who survives her.

Graduating from UCLA with a Bachelors, and from the University of Washington, Seattle with her Masters, Nancy was a librarian at Westmont College in Santa Barbara.

She lived on Green Springs Hwy near Lincoln in Ashland, but most recently lived in Phoenix. She was a member of the Phoenix Church of Christ.

Nancy was a mother, grandmother, a bestfriend, a wonderful neighbor and meant a lot to many extended families. She was deeply loved In addition to her husband, George of Phoenix, she is survived by daughters, Mary, Lyn, Melody and Judy; and 8 grandchildren.

Robert 'Bob' Fitzsimmons
A celebration of the life of Robert Allen "Bob" Fitzsimmons, 78, of Medford, will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Conger Morris Chapel, Medford. Chaplain DelGado of Providence Hospital officiating. Committal service to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

Viewing will be at Conger Morris from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2003. Bob died on Christmas Day at his home.

Bob was born in Kearney, Nebraska, July 20, 1925 to Alfred and Alyce (Hutchinson) Fitzsimmons.

For many years, Bob worked for Glen's Bakery in Crescent City, CA. Bob moved back to Medford in 1958 and drove dump truck for Hughes and Dodd. He then joined Local 701 operating heavy equipment till 1979 when illness forced him to retire.

he served 4 years in the United States Navy during World War II.

Bob enjoyed working on cars and building Hot Rods, spending time with all of his family and watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren race stock cars and Outlaw Go Carts. One of his greatest joys was having lunch every Saturday with family at Angelo's Pizza in Medford.

In 1947, he married Laotha Faye Young, they later divorced in 1958. On May 25, 1963, he married Anita Muir in Reno, Nevada.

Surviving Bob, in addition to his wife, are his six children, Alfred Glen Fitzsimmons of Medford, Gary Fitzsimmons of Medford, Marilyn Russell of Eugene, Terre Sequeira of Central Point, Carl Fitzsimmons of Shady Cove, and Diana Robertson of Medford; two brothers, Harold Fitzsimmons of Medford and Bill Fitzsimmons of Crescent City, CA; a brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Roberta Young of Crescent City, CA; 25 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Alyce Fitzsimmons and sister, Pat Folconer.

Family and friends of Bob Fitzsimmons are invited to join the family gathering after the service at the home of Glen Fitzsimmons, 1800 Rossanley Dr., Medford.

Memorial contributions can be made to Providence Adult Day Health Center, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford.

'Skookie' Watson
The graveside service for Ileene "Skookie" Watson will be 11 a.m., Tuesday at the Eagle Point National cemetery.

Mrs. Watson, 93, of Trail, died Thursday (Dec. 25, 2003) at Three Fountains Nursing Center, Medford.

She was born Nov. 28, 1910 in Chandler, North Dakota to Cortez "Cordy" C. and Anna R. (Baker) Elliott. On June 16, 1946 in Brookings, she married John G. Watson, who preceded her in death in 1978. She came to the Rogue Valley in 1937.

Mrs. Watson served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. She was a retired school teacher and taught in Medford and Prospect for about 40 years.

Survivors include her sister, Eva Johnson of Trail, Oregon.

William 'Bill' C. Mullins
William "Bill" C. Mullins of Medford, died Monday (Dec. 22, 2003) at Three Fountains. He was 77.

A committal service will be held on Monday, Jan. 5, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Eagle Point National cemetery. Chaplain Paul Hagedorn will officiate.

Mr. Mullins was born on April 20, 1926 in Mt. Vernon, KY to Casper and Stella (Gentry) Mullins. He grew up in Florida until entering the United States Navy where he would serve as a sail maker during WWII. Following his military service, Bill moved to California working in the bay area making awnings. He married Frances Reizer in San Rafael, CA on May 15, 1944. The couple moved to Southern California and Bill opened an auto upholstery business. Bill retired from that but would continue, in his retirement, to do custom auto upholstery for hot rods. He and Frances moved to Medford in July of 2000. Bill enjoyed fishing and spending time with his granddaughters.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law: Steve and Sheila Mullins of Ashland, daughter and son-in-law: Kathy and Charles Minter of Boulder, CO, sisters, Anita Faye Hayes, Patsy Ann Hopkins and Leahine Wolfe, brother, Casper Cline Mullins, granddaughters, Alise Minter, Sierra and Arianna Mullins. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Frances on Dec. 19, 2002 and his parents, including his mother in 2002.

Anne Louise Hitchcock
The graveside service for Anne Louise Hitchcock will be at 11 a.m. Wed., Dec. 10, 2003 at Mt. View Cemetary in Ashland.

Mrs. Hitchcock, 88, of Medord, died Friday (Dec. 5, 2003) at her son's home in Canby.

She was born on the Klamath River in Gottville, CA, on Feb. 21, 1915, one of 13 brothers and sisters. In 1936 she married Richard Hitchcock of Ashland, who preceded her in death in 1983.

Mrs. Hitchcock was a member of the Unity Church in Medford, the Methodist Church in Klamath Falls, and a 50 year member of Eastern Star in Dunsmuir, CA.

She enjoyed gardening, collecting, and fishing. She sent over 100 birthday and Christmas cards to friends and family every year.

Survivors include a son, Daniel and his wife, Patricia of Canby; a grandson, Daniel R. Hitchcock of Canby; granddaughter, Tiffany A. Hitchcock; granddaughter-in-law, Jennifer Hitchcock; great-granddaughters, Jordon D. Hitchcock, and Morgan N. Hitchcock; daughter-in-law, Patty A. Hitchcock of Mt. Shasta, CA; two sisters, Minnie Fileppe of Eugene and Babe Mulvany of Weed, CA; a brother, Joe DeAvilla of Mt. Shasta, CA. and 32 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Richard of Mt. Shasta in 2002, and 9 brothers and sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to a hospice of your choice.

Barton Gately
Private family services will be held for Barton Gately, 59, of Ashland, who died Wednesday (Dec. 3, 2003) at his home.

Mr. Gately was born July 9, 1944 in North Platte, Nebraska to Mary Ruth Calvin and Lt. Floyd Bert Calvin. Shortly thereafter Mrs. Calvin divorced Lt. Calvin and married Gordon H. Gately.

The family moved to Ashland in 1946 where Mr. Gately managed the old Lithia Theatre.

Barton graduated from Ashland Senior High in June of 1962 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in November. Following his discharge Mr. Gately lived in Santa Monica, California and worked for Standard Fire Equipment Co. He developed innovations that are still in use today.

Mr. Gately met and married Jeanice Carol Burkett in June 1967 at Playa Del Ray, California. A son, Shawn Barton Gately, was born in April 1969. The Gatelys moved back to Ashland in 1971. They divorced in 1984.

Mr. Gately worked at the Mark Anthony Hotel, eventually becoming the manager. Because of the frequent change of ownership of the hotel, Mr. Gately was later among the ranks of ex-managers. Mr. Gately worked as a maintenance man for McDonalds and later became Head Custodian at Ashland High School.

Barton enjoyed collecting guns, knives, and coins. He also enjoyed target shooting and reading. He is survived by his longtime companion, Ms. Kathleen Atkinson; a son, Shawn Barton Gately and daughter-in-law, Tamara; grandson, Jonah; granddaughter, McKenna from Livermore, California; and a daughter, Jerusha of Medford.

Ernest Otto Kohlhoff
Ernest Otto Kohlhoff, age 68, died at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Friday (Dec. 5, 2003).

He was born in Patterson, New Jersey on January 22, 1935. Family and friends will gather in celebration of Ernie's life in early May at Natural Bridge, on the Rogue River.

He served in the U.S. Army, and for a time was stationed in Los Angeles where he met his wife, who survives. A long time resident of Oregon, he and his family moved to Jacksonville in 1963.

Ernie was an avid fisherman, and could be found on the banks of the Rogue River just about every Friday morning during fishing season.

He loved to cook, and for special occasions he cooked and served dinners at the Medford Moose Lodge.

He was a member of the Medford VFW and the Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include; his wife, Shirley, of Jacksonville; son, Allen Kohlhoff of Phoenix; daughter, Karla Ratty of Central Point; and two granddaughters. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Howard E. Haley
Howard E. Haley, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and son-in-law died of Alzheimer's disease on November 28, 2003. He was 81.

Howard was born and raised on a farm in Brush, Colorado to Dwight and Ruth Haley of whom he had great respect. Through the years he credited his parents for raising him with a work ethic that became a defining characteristic of Howard.

He served in World War II, and dedicated his professional life to the J.C. Penney Company. He started working for J.C. Penney part-time stocking shoes until he graduated from Vancouver High School. He then went to work full-time while attending Clark Community College. Howard had a reputation as a maverick. He made things happen, created excitement and he inspired his employees to excel. As a boss, he was appreciated for taking charge and taking care of his employees. He treated each one with respect, kindness and fairness. Howard managed J.C. Penney stores in Tacoma, Washington; Mesa, Arizona; Oregon City, Oregon; and finally, after 42 years of service, he retired from the Northridge, California store in 1982. Howard became involved in all of these communities. He believed in giving back to the community he served.

Howard lived his life completely --with love in his heart, dedication to causes and respect for everything living. He was an example of what is good in this world. We celebrate his life, his spirit and his memory by living as he did: with love, kindness and fairness to others.

Howard is survived by Donna, his adoring wife of 25 years; his seven children, Judy Nettleton, Mick Haley, Dennis Haley, James Haley, Michelle Jaynes, Jeff Vinson and Susan Snyder; four daughters-in-law, three sons-in-law; 13 beautiful grandchildren; three sisters, Darlene, Helen and Annabelle; his brother, Lowell; and his mother-in-law, Vuelta Winter.

Services will be held Monday, December 29 at 1 p.m. at Hull & Hull Chapel located at 612 NW "A" St., Grants Pass, Oregon.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to contribute to the Alzeimer's Association, 1311 NW 21st Avenue, Portland, OR 97209.

Dorothy Helen Blair
The funeral service for Dorothy Helen Blair, 79, of Medford, will be on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Memory Gardens Chapel. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Blair died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003 at her home. She was born Sept. 16, 1924 in San Luis Obispo, CA. On Feb. 15, 1947 in Medford, she married Edwin Merle Blair, who preceded her in death in 2001.

She had lived in the Rogue Valley most of her life, and graduated from Medford High School. She and her husband owned and operated the Greatway Shopping Center in Eagle Point for over 30 years. She enjoyed needlework and traveling.

Survivors include: a son, Johnny L. Blair of Central Point; a daughter, Karen Kay Blair of Medford; a sister, Hazel McNeill of Medford; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Stevens and two brothers, Leland and Lawrence Jones.

Memory Gardens Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

John 'Jack' Stong
A funeral mass for John Elliott "Jack" Stong will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.

Mr. Stong was born on Sept. 20, 1921 in Elkader, Iowa to Elliott and Nora Stong. He and his brothers were raised in Alamosa, CO. in the family of a country Doctor.

He attended the University of Colorado.

Mr. Stong joined the U.S. Air Force in 1942, he served as a Navigator in North Africa and Italy. He retired as a Major in the Air Force Reserve. In 1943 he married Olive Miriam Foley, who preceded him in death on July 26, 2003. They moved to Medford in 1946.

He worked with the family music business in downtown Medford, Jack's music stores, known first as Purucker's Piano House, and later as the Medford Magnavox Center, and Music West. They served generations of Rogue Valley music lovers.

In retirement Jack continued to tour the world and revisit the cities he had come to love.

Survivors include; his brother Paul of Alamosa, CO; daughters Mary Myers of Greenwood, CA and Mimi Koza of Junction City, OR; son, Jon Stong of Santa Rosa, CA; and five grandchildren.

We cherish the life that you have shared with us and the lives that you have given us.
