Russel John Morris
Russel Morris 55, of Central Point, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003 at Providence Hospital.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Eagle Point National cemetery. A visitation will be Monday, 3-7:30 p.m.

Mr. Morris was born Feb. 20, 1948 in Renton, WA, the son of Robert and Bessie (Joyce) Morris of Central Point. Russel moved here from Kent, WA in 1950. He graduated from Crater High in 1966.

He served in the US Army from 1967-1971 and had worked in road construction. He was a member of the Medford Eagles Lodge.

He is survived by his sons, Robert A. of Ashland, Jerry of Chiloquin, OR; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.

Suzanne Langley
Suzanne Langley, beloved mother and grandmother, died Thursday, December 11, 2003 at her residence in Ashland, surrounded by loved ones. She was 74 years old.

Born Suzanne Isabelle Healy on July 3, 1929, in Brooklyn, New York to George Healy and Isabelle Calhoun Healy, Sue received her undergraduate degree at Trinity College and her masters degree in education at Columbia University. While attending Trinity, she was introduced to her future husband, George Langley, by her soon to be sister-in-law, Mary Jane. They were married in 1954, and raised their family together in Syracuse, New York and Santa Clara County, California.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother, Robert Healy; she is survived by her sister, Joan Healy Calame, and her four daughters: Deborah Langley and Carol Langley of Medford; Joan Langley and her family, Peter, Michael, Jack and Christopher Buckley of Ashland; and Janet Langley of San Diego.

A funeral mass will take place at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 16 at 2 p.m., and a graveside service will be offered at the Oak Hill cemetery in San Jose, California on Thursday, December 18 at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Sue's name to ARC of Jackson County.

Alice Loretta Lowry
Alice Loretta Lowry died December 2, 2003, at the home of her granddaughter, surrounded by loved ones. She was 94.

Alice was born June 23, 1909, in Chicago, IL, to Hugo and Elizabeth (Bess) Kuhlmey. She was raised with her two brothers, Albert and Howard, and by her mother (a practical nurse), grandmother, Mary, and aunts Caroline, Lucy, Winifred, Maime, and Alice. Her favorite childhood pastime was ice skating in Lincoln Park and Sunday afternoon parties hosted by her grandmother.

She worked as a telephone operator and in a Ford and Lincoln dealership.

In 1931, she married McClellan "Mac" Lowry and became a homemaker. They had three children, Alice Marie, George, and Elizabeth Ann "Betsy." Mac's career as a food chemist took them from Chicago to Kansas City, MO, and Fullerton, CA. They spent many summers at their cottage in Montello, WI. In 1973, they retired to San Antonio, TX, where Mac soon passed away.

Alice returned to Chicago, the place she always called home in 1973 to care for her ailing mother. She enjoyed being with her brother Howard, a priest, spending time with her many nieces and nephews, and social times with her bridge groups.

After the deaths of her mother and brothers, Alice moved to Salem, OR in 1987 to be with her youngest daughter, Betsy and help raise her grandchildren Mary and Scott Spicer.

Alice spent her remaining 5 years in Medford, cared for by her granddaughter Sunny Spicer. She delighted in her great grandchildren, Craig and Taylor Schneider (ages 5 and 3) and their friends, spending many hours reading stories, playing games, and reminiscing. The greatest love of her life was her family, and her devotion has been and will be felt for generations.

Alice is survived by her children Alice Marie Zellmer of Montello, WI, Dr. George M. Lowry of San Antonio, TX and Betsy Spicer of Salem; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Byron Kinkade
Byron Kinkade, 64, (Oct. 7, 1939) of White City, died Wednesday (Dec. 10, 2003) at Providence Medford Medical Center. Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Calvin Sarver
Calvin Y. Sarver, 64, of La Quinta, died Nov. 30, 2003, in Palm Desert.

He was born Nov. 25, 1939, to Gertrude (Scott) and Charles T. Sarver in Bakersfield.

He married Claudia Lampkin on Aug. 18, 1962, in Westminster.

He pastored at Hulse Memorial Baptist Church from 1973-1974 and received his Masters in Education in 1974 from S.O.S.C, Ashland.

A member of the California Teachers Association, he was a teacher for 40 years, most recently at La Quinta Middle School for six years. He received Teacher of the Year awards in 2001 and in 2002. A Southern Baptist minister, he was a missionary in Africa from 1976 to 1979.

He was the voice of Woodlake Football from 1984 to 1994.

He served in the Army from 1957 to 1959.

He is survived by his wife, Claudia of La Quinta; three sons, Calvin Mark of Topeka, KS, James Edward of San Jose and Timothy Andrew of San Luis Obispo; two sisters, Robert Leist of Bakersfield and Joyce Kennedy of Mountain Home, Idaho; three brothers, Charlie of Sunset Beach, J.D. of Newcastle and Kenny of Bakersfield; and two grandchildren.

Services were held Friday at FitzHenry Funeral Home, Indio, CA. Burial was at Coachella Valley cemetery.

Cora Rhawn Behringer
Strock Caldwell Cora Rhawn Behringer Strock Caldwell, age 26, died in New Mexico on November 11, 2003, on her way home for the Thanksgiving holiday. She is survived in Ashland by her parents, Josh T. Timmens and Marcy Rhawn Behringer and by her three sisters: Mary Cordelia Strock, Tessa Ames Strock and Rosetta Everly Timmens. She is survived in Santa Fe, New Mexico by parents Glen Strock and Alida Strock and their son Joshua de Lira. Cora was married to Charles Caldwell of Santa Fe and is survived by her two lovely daughters: Autumn Lynn Caldwell and Cailyn Cordelia Caldwell.

Cora was born in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico on February 27, 1977. Cora spent most of her childhood in Dixon, New Mexico. She also spent time in Evergreen, Colorado as a teenager. Recently Cora, Autumn and Cailyn lived in Ashland, Oregon. The children attended Children's World Montessori Preschool located at First United Methodist Church at 175 North Main.

Cora loved play with children and to play with her sisters. She loved to play chess and to play tennis. Cora was an avid fan of football and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed cooking for her loved ones. In her childhood she loved playing piano and reading music.

Memorial Services have already been held in Northern New Mexico. Friends and family remember Cora's beautiful smile and her gentle spirit. Family members have set up a memorial custodial trust for Cora's children, Autumn (age seven) and Cailyn Caldwell (age five) at Umpqua Bank in Ashland.

Letha May Horne
Private inurnment will be in Mountain View cemetery, Ashland, for Letha May Horne, 93, formerly of Ashland, who died November 25, 2003 at her Portland home.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, P.O. Box 1270, Charlotte, NC 28201-1270.

Letha was born March 13, 1910 in Biggs, CA to Willard and Dora (Ward) Miles. Her family moved to Ashland when she was a child, and she attended Ashland schools. She received a teaching degree from Southern Oregon College and taught in a one room school house in Agnes, OR on the lower Rogue River.

On June 14, 1931 in Ashland, OR she married Paul H. Horne. In 1937 they moved to Klamath Falls, OR where Letha worked as a clerk and bookkeeper at Woods Drug Store, retiring in 1972. Returning to Medford in 1973, she became active in the Phoenix Presbyterian Church, until moving to Portland in 1999, following the death of her husband Paul. Letha enjoyed antiquing, was active in the church choir, and was a 50-year member of Aloha Chapter #5 Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include daughter, Paula Leanne Jepson of Portland, OR; foster daughter, Joanne Dean York of Newark, CA; sister, Yvonne Williams of Talent, OR; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren. Her husband, Paul, as well as one son and one daughter, preceded her in death.

Marguerite "Peggy" Sawyer
Marguerite "Peggy" Sawyer, a much-loved mother, wife, midwife and friend, died at her Talent home on December 4, 2003, the eve of her 51st. birthday.

A memorial celebration of her life and spirit will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 13, 2003, at Havurah Shir Haddash, 185 N. Mountain Ave., Ashland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to a memorial foundation being set up to further Peggy's work.

Peggy was born December 5, 1952, in Portland to Peggy Magill Sawyer and the late Kenneth E. Sawyer. She graduated from Bend Senior High School in 1971, and attended Lane Community College, The University of Oregon and the University of New Hampshire. In the last few years, she was attending the National College of Midwifery in Taos, New Mexico, where she was also a faculty member.

Peggy was a woman who helped others give birth. During 23 years as a local midwife and founder of Trillium Midwifery Care, she helped deliver more than 1, 000 babies, including her two grandsons. She was active in the Oregon Midwifery Council and the Midwives Alliance of North America for many years.

"She was a midwife's midwife, someone other midwives looked up to as a teacher, " said Sue Morningstar, an Ashland certified nurse-midwife and former colleague.

A dedicated homeschooling mother, Peggy also helped anchor the homeschooling community in Southern Oregon, providing support and ecouragement to countless families. She was instrumental in the founding of the homeschooling support program in Ashland in 1997, which has grown into the popular Willow Wind Community Learning Center.

Peggy was also a committed environmental activist, who cared deeply about the earth.

But Peggy's contribution to her family, friends, and her larger community here went even deeper. Her family and many friends remember her great spirit, her honesty, her loving mothering and her laugh.

She lived simply with her family in a cabin in Talent and thought spending time with her family was more important than cleaning her refrigerator. Despite the demands of her profession, she was always available for her family and was abundantly generous with her time and wisdom with her friends and anyone who needed help or support. She was the person others turned to.

"Peggy lived her beliefs and her truth in everything she did: birth, education, parenting, death, " said her husband, Will Sears. "That's why so many people trusted and believed in her. She had such an open heart and touched many lives." Peggy is survived by her husband, mother; daughters, Melissa Davis, Rohanna Buchanan and Sage Padma Sears; sons, Kavi Taraka, Teja Kritika and Dharma Sears and grandsons Liam McKenzie Davis and Milo Rogue Davis.

Barbara Gunter Mudge
Barbara Ann Gunter Mudge, age 55, of Medford, died Thursday, December 4, 2003 at Providence Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

The Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., Dec. 13, 2003 at Talent Friends Church. Pastor Elliott Lovelace of Talent Bible Chapel will officiate.

Barbara Ann Gunter was born November 16, 1948 in Dorena, Oregon. She lived in the Rogue Valley all her life. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1967.

Barbara was a Phoenix/Talent bus driver for 13 years. She was an on-call bus driver in the summer, helping bus firefighters to wildfires. She was a Master Gardener at Holly Hock Nursery for 6 years.

Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, collecting M&M;'s, hunting, fishing, camping, and attending Nascar races. She was active in the Master Gardener's Club.

She is survived by her fiancee, Ron Rentz; daughters, Tammy Neill of Puyallup, WA, Brandi Marshall of Redding, CA, Jeana Brown, also of Redding, CA; 2 step-children, Ronnie and Shasta Rentz, both of Medford; sisters, Bonnie McKinney of Medford, and Brenda Trauter of Redding, CA; brother, Mike Gunter of Ashland; and 8 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, James Gunter, and brothers, Teddy and Gary Gunter.

The family would like to thank all those who helped and supported them through this very rough time.

Barbara was a loving mother, grandma, sister and friend, who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

George S. Duggar
George S. Duggar, of Medford (formerly of Belmont, California), died on November 30, 2003 in his sleep, aged 88.

Mr. Duggar held a PhD in Public Administration from Harvard.

Professor Duggar's early (pre- and post- World War II) research in urban geography, urban renewal planning and forecasting housing demand blossomed into later studies of public finance which influenced urban planning and renewal. His long and brilliant career included work with the New York and San Francisco Planning Departments, a stint with the OSS, and directing the new U.N. Center for Regional Development in Nagoya, Japan. He taught at numerous universities in the United States and outside of it, and was a published author.

When he "retired" in 1977 at the age of 62, he began a second career as a sculptor, earning an MFA from San Francisco State University and participating in many one-man and group shows.

A longtime plant, landscape and out-of-doors enthusiast, he left a request that donations in his name be made to The Nature Conservancy of Oregon.

A memorial service was held December 5th at Rogue Valley Manor in Medford.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Pelton ("Peg") Duggar, three children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Joshua Terry Barron A funeral for Joshua Terry Barron will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2003 at Foothills Baptist Church, Medford. Committal services will follow at Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.

Joshua, 22, of Medford died Saturday (Dec. 6, 2003) in Central Point, as a result of an automobile accident.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Angel Tree Ministries, c/o Foothills Baptist Church, 2722 Springbrook Road, Medford, OR 97504.

Joshua was born on Sept. 6, 1981 in Santa Rosa, CA. He moved to the Rogue Valley eight years ago from Quincy, CA.

He was a co-owner and operator of the family contracting business, Custom Concrete Solutions in Medford, and was also involved in the other family business, Softub Factory Outlet of Southern Oregon.

Joshua was a member of the Foothills Baptist Church in Medford.

He enjoyed fishing, diving, and drawing.

A son of many talents, a son of many challenges, and a son with a huge heart that loved his family more than anything else.

Survivors include; his father and stepmother, Terry and Heidi Barron of Medford; his mother and stepfather, Lauri and Ken Pierson of Quincy, CA; two brothers, Michael and Joseph Barron of Medford; 2 stepbrothers, Justin and Bradley Pierson of Quincy, CA; his grandparents, Calvin and Barbara Murphy of Central Point, Syd and Judy Kahre of Quincy, CA, Fred and Nancy Pierson of Quincy, CA, and Robert and Monica Billingsley of Placerville, CA; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Joshua will be missed by friends but most of all by family.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Conger-Morris Funeral Home, 715 W. Main St., Medford.

L. Frances Kimmons
The memorial service for L. Frances Kimmons will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 13 in the Prospect Community Center. Pastor Bob Batt will officiate. Private entombment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Kimmons, 88, of Central Point, died Saturday (Dec. 6, 2003).

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Mrs. Kimmons was born on Dec. 23, 1914 in Tucumcari, NM. On April 11, 1933 in Carrizozo, NM, she married Henry Douglas Kimmons, who preceded her in death in 1986. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1943 from New Mexico.

She worked packing pears seasonally.

She was instrumental in the forming of Temple Baptist Church in Medford and Prospect Baptist Church. She was a member of Southern Baptist Churches.

Mrs. Kimmons enjoyed music. She was a singer and a pianist.

Survivors include: a daughter-in-law, Charlene Kimmons of Central Point; a brother, James Ray Sloan of Austin, TX; a sister-in-law, Mary Bess Sloan of Alaska; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Keith Kimmons.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.
