Margaret B. Allis
June 18, 1914 ~ Sept. 29, 2003 Margaret B. Allis died on Monday (Sept. 29, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford. She was 89.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 745 N. 10th St. in Central Point. Pastor Herbert Percy will officiate. Inurnment will be held at Monument cemetery in Monument, Colorado.

Mrs. Allis was born on June 18, 1914 in Dumbarton, Scotland to David and Jean (Boss) Goudie. She lived there until moving to Philadelphia at 9 years old. She later lived in Long Island, New York before moving to Eagle Point in 1969. She lived there until moving to Castle Rock, CO in 1984, returning to the Rogue Valley in 1994.

Margaret married George Meyer in Elmont, L.I. New York in 1938. He passed away in 1945. She would later marry Robert Kean in Hicksville, L.I. New York in 1948. He preceded her in death in 1966. She married Al Allis in Monument, CO in 1987. He preceded her in death in 1997.

Mrs. Allis was a member of the Lutheran Church for most of her life. She was active in the Love Circle at St. John Lutheran Church in Eagle Point. She was most recently involved with Gloria Dei in Central Point.

She enjoyed reading, painting, crocheting and knitting, but most of all, she loved her family and was known to never miss a birthday.

Survivors include her son: George Meyer and his wife Karen of Lynchburg, VA; daughters and their husbands, Margaret and Bill Chambers of Eagle Point, Mary and Gary Bohannon of Medford, Nancy and Ronald Pemberton of Eagle Point, Dorothy and Richard Kerby of Ashland; 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Allis was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1311 NW 21st St., Portland, OR 97209, or the American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Suite 10, Medford, OR 97504 or to the American Lung Association, 7420 SW Bridgeport Rd., Suite 200, Tualatin, OR 97224.

Nina Bouton White
A graveside service for Nina Bouton White will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Westside cemetery, Taft, Calif. Associate Pastor Michael Pollack of Taft First Baptist Church will officiate.

Mrs. White, 89, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Sept. 30, 2003) at Alderwood Assisted Living.

She was born on June 10, 1914 in Cookeville, TN to Mack and Elizabeth (Sloan) Henry. On Jun 14, 1934 in Taft, CA she married C. Vane White who preceded her in death. She moved to the Rogue Valley in October of 2001.

Mrs. White, formerly of Taft, CA. had been a homemaker during her life.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading and spending time with her family.

Survivors include; her son and his wife, Tom & Jean White of Medford; her daughter and her husband, Sandra and Ed Nicoletti of Alpharetta, GA; a daughter-in-law, Barbara White of Bakersfield, CA; and three grandsons and their wives, Drew and Kathy White of Central Point, Scott and Beth White of Medford, and Jered White of North Carolina; 7 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Ronald, a grandson, Carl, 4 brothers, Paul, Claude, Curt and S.J. Henry, and 1 sister, Mary Nusse.

William Karl Kachmarik
A memorial celebration of the life of Bill Kachmarik will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. at the Ascension Lutheran Church, 2617 E. Barnett Road, Medford. Pastor Robert Larson will officiate.

Bill, 57, affectionately known to many as Kach, had lived and worked in the Rogue Valley since moving here from Pennsylvania in 1976. Bill was a respected member of the community, and a dedicated teacher.

After receiving his Masters Degree in Education he taught and coached in Pennsylvania, until he moved to the valley. He retired in 2002 after 23 years of teaching Social Studies, and coaching at Eagle Point High School. He continued teaching at the Academy Program and Online courses for SOU. He was an avid sports fan. Bill enjoyed attending and singing for his church and was a member of the Southern Oregon Repertory Singers. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for more than 15 years.

After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1977, he became an active member of the MS Society and received worldwide recognition. He lobbied successfully for changes in accessibility laws for people with disabilities, and was known for his role in supporting those newly diagnosed with the disease.

Bill is survived by his father, Alexander; three brothers, Tom, Fred, and Ed; two sisters Sally Williams, and Joan Young, who all live out of state; his children, a son, Nathan Kachmarik of Ashland; daughters Aubrey Kachmarik of Roseburg, and Alicia Wilcox of Medford; and two grandchildren, Dylan and Fletcher.

Flowers can be sent to, Ascension Lutheran Church at the above mentioned address, and charitable donations may be made to: National MS Society, Oregon Chapter, 1650 NW Naito Parkway, Suite, 190, Portland, OR 97209.

Lyda E. Martin
The funeral for Lyda E. Martin will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Officiating will be Pastor Rod Howell of the Central Neighborhood Church, Phoenix. Interment will follow at the Mountain View cemetery, Ashland.

Mrs. Martin, 86, of Phoenix, died Friday, October 3, 2003 at home. She was born June 2, 1917, at Derby, Oregon the daughter of Edwin and Lorena Koenig. She was raised and attended schools in Derby and Reese Creek, Oregon. In 1933 at Reese Creek she married Vernon J. Haynes who preceded her in death. On April 14, 1973 at Griffin Creek, Oregon she married Archibald Martin who survives. Mrs. Martin drove school bus in the Medford School system for many years.

She was an artist, wood carver, and enjoyed handwork.

Mrs. Martin was active in many outdoor sports and enjoyed swimming and spending time with family.

Surviving in addition to her husband are: two sons, Vernon M. Haynes of Chandler, AZ and Donnell R. Haynes of Mesa, AZ; two daughters, Lorena Ann Bennett of Central Point, and Patricia Carol Sakraida of Williams; one step daughter Glennora J. Arnold of Phoenix; one half-brother David Robertson of Central Point; one sister Bette Ziegler of Roseburg; seventeen grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one step-son and one brother. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue Valley Medical Center Hospice, Rogue Valley Foundation, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504. Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland.

Mark David Winningham
A graveside service for Mark David Winningham will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct 9, 2003, at Logtown cemetery. Mark, 22, of Applegate, died Friday, (Oct. 5, 2003) at his home. He was born on June 5, 1981 in Medford to Thomas and Susan Winningham. He lived in the Rogue Valley all his life.

Mark graduated from Hidden Valley High School in 2001.

He worked as a loader operator in the construction industry.

Survivors include: his parents, Thomas and Susan of Applegate; a brother, Chad of Medford, and his Maternal Grandparents, John and Maxine DeYoung of Applegate.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Conger- Morris, 715 W. Main St., Medford.

Lillian Muslin
Lillian Muslin, 92, died Wednesday (Oct. 1, 2003) at an adult foster home in Medford. She was born Lillian Feinstein on Aug. 24, 1911 in NY, NY. On July 4, 1928 she married Morris Muslin who preceded her in death. She lived in Southern CA before moving to Medford in 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, Naomi Seidman of Medford; a son Dr. Joseph Muslin of Torrance, CA; 3 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers; and 2 sisters.

A private interment service will be held on Wed., Oct. 8, 2003, at Forest Lawn cemetery in Cypress, CA.

Donations in her memory may be made to Asante Hospice, Medford.

Mabel Ann Smith
A memorial service for Mabel Ann Smith will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003 at Trail Christian Fellowship. Rev. Don Holmes of Trail Christian Fellowship will officiate.

Mrs. Smith, 86, of Gold Hill, died Sunday (Sept. 28, 2003) at her son's home.

She was born Feb. 22, 1917 in Gold Hill, OR to Calvin Dusenberry and Nina Householder (Dusenberry). On April 23, 1936, in Gold Hill she married Dale F. Smith. She lived in the Rogue Valley all of her life.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and she enjoyed gardening, bowling, and her grandchildren.

Survivors include: a son, Delmer C. Smith of Central Point; a brother, Don Dusenberry of Seattle, WA; a sister, Nora Bailey of Medford; 6 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, Oct. 12, 2002, a son, Clifford Smith, May 13, 2000, 2 sisters, and 1 brother.

Thada A. Hilton
A graveside service for Thada A. Hilton will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at Siskiyou Memorial Park, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford.

Mrs. Hilton, 87, of Medford, died Thursday (Oct. 2, 2003) at her home.

She was born on March 25, 1916, in Central Point. On Oct. 18, 1933, she married Floyd R. Hilton who preceded her in death in 1971.

Thada was active in the business, F.R. Hilton & Sons Trucking. She worked as a secretary for Timber Products and retired from Medco Corp.

She was active in the flower club, loved to take pictures, and travel. She traveled to most countries in the world.

She is survived by a son, Raymond Hilton of Central Point; two daughters, Patricia Hall of Grants Pass, Peggy Little of Norco, CA; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Earl Owen Moody
Earl Owen Moody, 71, of Phoenix died Thursday (Oct. 9, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 14th at 11 a.m. at Memory Gardens Chapel in Medford. Committal will follow in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mr. Moody was born Feb. 10, 1932 to Breece and Clemon (Alford) Moody in Blytheville, Arkansas. On Feb. 1, 1969, in Reno, NV he married Carol A. Edsall, who survives him. Moving from Sutherlin, he lived in the Rogue Valley since 1962.

Mr. Moody owned his own truck and was a long haul truck driver.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include: two sons, Larry Rose and Gary Moody, both of Medford; six daughters, Paula Moody of Medford, Linda Durrer of Madera, CA, Diana Jacobsen of Central Point, Pauline Hession of Anaheim, CA, Linda Moody of Oklahoma, and Shari Hubbard of Washington; her sister, Louise Jackson; 14 grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday, Oct. 13th from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Memory Gardens Chapel in Medford.

Elizabeth Smith
Elizabeth Smith, beloved wife, mother, sister and friend died in her home Wed., Oct. 8.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Sacred Heart Church, Medford.

She is survived by many loving family members and friends including her husband Dale, daughter Samantha, son Kevin (and his wife Paula), sister Mary McGuigan, brother Thomas McGuigan, and brother-in-law Richard Green. She was the sister of the late Philip McGuigan and daughter of the late Philip and Catherine McGuigan.

Elizabeth was born Elizabeth Bedelia McGuigan on Jan. 4, 1939, in Glasgow, Scotland. After a courtship in Scotland with Clifford "Dale" Smith of Fortuna, CA, "Betty" (as she was known to friends), married her sweetheart in Glasgow in 1966. There they had son Kevin and later moved west to California, where daughter Samantha was born.

Elizabeth settled in Monterey County with her family, building a happy home, active in her community and ultimately running her own business.

When the kids were grown and graduated from university, Elizabeth and Dale retired first to Shady Cove, and most recently resided in Eagle Point.

Elizabeth continued her active lifestyle, a member in organizations like the International Ladies' Club and the Friendship Club.

Elizabeth's warm heart touched all of ours. A courageous woman who battled cancer and various complications over the last four years, she will be missed and never forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Ethel Marie Nicodemus
Ethel Marie Nicodemus, a resident of the Medford area for 66 years, died Oct. 4, 2003. A gathering of friends and family was held Oct. 5, at Hillcrest Memorial Park to celebrate her life. Inurnment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to: The Jackson County Animal Shelter, 5595 S. Pacific Hwy., Phoenix, OR 97535.

She was born on Aug. 19, 1915 in Overland, Kansas, to Rennie and Josey Barnes. In 1935 she married Rex. A. Nicodemus. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1937.

Mrs. Nicodemus raised her family and was a homemaker. She was active with the schools and her church.

She began her nursing career in 1960. She retired from RVMC in 1980.

Mrs. Nicodemus served as a president of the local LPN Association, and Toastmistress. After her retirement she continued with Toastmistress and Hospice. She was a former member of the Phoenix and Medford Presbyterian Church.

She enjoyed gardening, painting and writing.

Survivors include a son Rex J. Nicodemus of Sacramento, CA; grandchildren, Jeff Sweet of Gresham, OR, Greg Sweet of Waltham, MA, Rebecca McLamore of Sacramento, CA, Tamara Paul of Reno, NV; a sister Beverly Higley of Atwood, KS; and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Collene Kay Kelly.

Myrtle L. Little In loving memory, devoted mother and friend.
Mrs. Little, 84, of Medford, died Wednesday, (Oct. 8, 2003) in Medford. A celebratio n of her life will be held at a later date.

She was born Myrtle Laree Welling on Sept. 11, 1919 in LaGrande, OR, to Leo John and Margaret May (Jarrett) Welling. In 1940 in Roseburg, she married Jack W. Little who preceded her in death in 1992. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1951.

Mrs. Little was a homemaker.

She was active at the Medford Senior Center and a member of the senior water aerobics class at the the YMCA for the past fifteen years.

Mrs. Little enjoyed sewing, knitting gardening and crafts.

Survivors include: a daughter, Vivian L. Little of Honolulu, Hawaii; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Sam, Chester and Bill Welling, and a sister, Ruby Coles.

Colburn 'Corky' Barrell
A memorial service to honor Colburn "Corky" Barrell, who died Sept. 5, 2003, after a 2 1/2 year battle with cancer was held Monday, September 15th at the Sun Valley Resort Limelight Room, Sun Valley, Idaho.

Corky was born February 12, 1944, at Bend, Oregon, the youngest of three children to Colburn Harry (Bunny) and Ruth Isted Barrell. The family moved to Medford, Oregon in 1950.

Corky graduated from Medford High School in 1962 and earned his Masters Degree in Business from Oregon State University. He began working as a front desk clerk at Sun Valley Resort in the early sixties and wore many hats at the resort before settling as Manager of the Sun Valley Garage in 1977, a position he held until his death.

Corky was recognized by his 1923 Model T Roadster, a project completed while still in high school. He belonged to several car clubs and participated in shows throughout the Northwest.

Corky was an avid skier and he helped to organize the 1974 World Cup Race held at Sun Valley. He was also a 1970 participant in the in the Saunderson Pro-AM where his team took first.

He was an accomplished horseman and worked with the Blaine County Search and Rescue for many years. Corky helped to organize the Warm Springs Riding Club and was a lifetime member. He was also a member of the Sawtooth Rangers. Corky and Andy Schernthanner were largely responsible for pioneering the trails at Adams Gulch.

He was an active member in the Wood River Roping Club and competed in competitions throughout the Northwest in heading and heeling and won numerous buckles. He was instrumental in the organization of the Sagebrush Equine Training Center.

Corky was well-known throughout the area for his generosity, loyalty and winning smile. He was a true friend to all who knew him.

Corky is survived by Lana Breazeale of Hailey; 2 sisters, Marcia Quinney of Layton, Utah, and Brenda Dunlap of Santa Rosa, California; 9 nieces and nephews and 11 great-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to the Sagebrush Arena Handicap Riding Program at PO Box 2918, Sun Valley, ID 83353 or the Hospice of the Wood River Valley, PO Box 4320, Ketchum, ID 83340.
