Lawrence 'Larry' DeVore
A memorial service for Lawrence "Larry" Earl DeVore will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 3 at Butte Creek Baptist Church, 429 N. Royal Ave., Eagle Point. Pastor Chris Naranjo of Butte Creek Baptist Church will officiate. Inurnment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

Mr. DeVore, 68, of White City, died Sunday (March 21, 2004) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Mr. DeVore was born on July 3, 1935 in Los Angeles, CA to James and Elizabeth (Hunsburger) DeVore. He moved to Eagle Point in 1978 from Gilroy, CA. On March 4, 1989 in Eagle Point he married Betty Jo, who survives.

He worked as a saw filer for Cal-Or Carbide until his retirement.

Mr. DeVore attended Butte Creek Baptist Church.

He enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing, camping and enjoyed membership in TOYS Club activities.

In addition to his wife survivors include: three daughters, Carol Orsetti-Connolly of Medford, Joan Schermerhorn of Woodvillage, OR and Deanna DeVore of Parkdale, OR; a step-son, Laine Ivie of McDill AFB, FL; a brother Harvey DeVore of San Diego, CA; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary, Medford.

Ruth M. Hooker
Funeral services for Ruth Mary Hooker will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 26, in the Memory Gardens Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Mark Burton of the Medford Friends Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park. A reception will follow in the Memory Gardens chapel.

Mrs. Hooker, 84, of Medford, died Monday, (March 22, 2004). She was born June 27, 1919 in Post Falls, ID. On Dec. 2, 1945 in Central Point, she married Alfred L. Hooker, who preceded her in death in 1994.

Years ago she operated the elevator in the Medford Center Building. Later she worked in the passenger train depot of So. Pacific Railroad.

She was a member of the Medford Friends Church. She enjoyed her yard and family.

She is survived by her companion, Charles L. Hughes of Central Point; a sister, Lois E. Simmons and a brother, Burl Johnson, both of Medford. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Visitation will be on Thursday, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Memory Gardens Mortuary.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary.

Aric Christopher Vilks
A celebration for Aric Vilks will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 10th at Del Rio Vineyards, 52 N. River Rd., Gold Hill.

Aric was born on November 30, 1983.

Aric continues to live in the hearts of Deitl and Patty Vilks; his big brother, Aleks; and numerous local friends and relatives from California, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Washington.

He will be remembered as a young man who gave and received equally of those he touched during his short time with us.

He played youth soccer and basketball and soccer for Crater High. He loved basketball, friends, camping and the outdoors.

His love to his family and friends was his greatest gift of all.

In lieu of flowers, contributions would be gratefully accepted for either the "Aric Vilks Scholarship" at Crossroads School or "Aric Vilks Memorial Scholarship" at Crater High.

Clarence Hall
Clarence Armory Hall, 83, of Medford, died March 30, 2004, at Three Fountains Nursing Center.

A funeral service for Mr. Hall will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2004 at the Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel, committal to be at the Eagle Point National cemetery. A visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 9, at Conger-Morris, Central Point.

Clarence was born Feb. 14, 1921 in Medford, to Charles and Anna (Louis) Hall. He married Evelyn, they later divorced.

He served in the U.S. Army during WW II, from 1942 to 1946 in the Military Police as a medical technician. He worked as a sawyer for several mills including Medco and Cascade Wood Products retiring in 1985.

Clarence was an avid reader.

He is survived by his son, Terry Hall of White City; daughter, Jodi Hall of Tigard; six step-children, Sandi Hendrix of Medford, Roger of Eagle Point, James of White City, Thomas of Sutherland, Rodney of Medford, and Mark Rikard of White City; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn and Joyce Ann.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris, Central Point Chapel.

David Chester Hendrix
David Chester Hendrix, 78, of Medford, died Monday (April 5, 2004) after an extended illness. He died peacefully at home. Funeral services will be held at the Hillcrest Chapel, 2201 N. Phoenix Road.

He was born on Sept. 26, 1925 to Edmund P. and Nora Hendrix in Ontario, Oregon. When he was 17, he joined the Navy and served three years aboard the USS Swenning 394, where he saw action in the Pacific and Atlantic.

In 1951, he moved from Vale, Oregon to Medford where he served as Jackson County State Watermaster for 31 years.

Dave was an avid hunter, sharing many memorable hunting trips with his wife Irma, and his son Ed. He also enjoyed bowling, and bowled on leagues and in tournaments for many years.

In addition to his wife Irma, he is survived by a daughter Annie Hendrix of Miles City, Montana; a son Ed, of Boring, Oregon; and three stepdaughters, Janice Smith of Ruch, OR, Cynda Webb of Medford, and Kimmie Steinmetz of Central Point; a sister Lovena Horner of Milwaukie, OR, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 West Sixth. Medford, OR 97501 or to The National WW II Memorial, 2300 Clarendon Blvd., Suite 501, Arlington, VA 22201.

Friends may pay their respects from 1 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at Conger Morris, Medford.

Eric Evan Parton
A memorial service for Eric Evan Parton will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2004 at Rogue Valley Christian Church, 1440 S. Oakdale Ave., Medford. Rev. Kenne Horton will officiate.

Mr. Parton, 44, of Medford, died Saturday (April 3, 2004) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Dornbecker Children's Hospital, Portland, OR.

Mr. Parton was born on March 26, 1960 in Medford. On April 18, 1992 in Reno, NV he married Kimberly who survives. He lived in the Rogue Valley for 25 years.

He worked as a Assistant General Manager at Rogue Regency Hotel.

In addition to his wife survivors include, his father, James Don Parton, and his mother Roberta Livingston; his twin brother, Derek Parton of Medford, and brothers, Michael Parton of Olympia, WA, and Dennis Parton, Sun Valley, NV; his sister, Tammy Patterson of Medford; seven step-siblings; 25 nieces and nephews; and five great-nieces and nephews,

George Donald Henney
George Donald Henney, 84, of Medford, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on April 3, 2004. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 12, at the First Presbyterian Church, 85 S. Holly, Medford.

George was born in Butler, PA on Aug. 30, 1919 to Sumner David Henney and Florence (Double) Henney. He joined the Army Air Corp and served in WWII in the Panama Canal Zone as a Radio Communications Technician. Before his discharge, he met his future wife, Betty Jean Bowman, who worked for the Federal Civil Services at the Army Air Base at Connellsville, PA. After the war, they married , had two children and lived in Butler, PA until 1955, when they moved to Oregon.

After arriving in Oregon, George worked as a dental lab technician. He then went to work at the Medford Plywood and Veneer Co. for 12 years. George started the first cultured marble company in Southern Oregon, "Grecian Marble Company." He worked for the State of Oregon Worker's Compensation Division until his retirement in 1980.

He was a 30 year member of the Medford Elks, and a member of the Good Sams RV group.

George enjoyed traveling with his wife in their motor home, eventually visiting all 50 states and Canada.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty; their two children, James D. Henney of Central Point; Lenda J. Eek of Medford; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and cousins Betty Balsiger of Butler, PA, and Norma McCabe of Portland, OR.

Helen Louise Hanson
A memorial service for Helen Louise Hanson will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2004 at West Main Assembly of God Church, Medford. Jack Bacon will officiate. Interment will be at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hanson, 69, of Medford, died Sunday April 4, 2004 at her home.

She was born on Jan. 25, 1935 in Sioux Falls, S.D. to Cecil and Leone (Walker) Read. On Oct. 7, 1956 in Carson City, NV she married Richard Hanson, who preceded her in death. They moved to the Rogue Valley 28 years ago from North Bend.

Mrs. Hanson worked as a proof operator in the banking industry.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include: three sons, Edward J. Hanson of Central Point, Jerald A. Hanson of White City, and Robert T. Hanson of Yuma, AZ; a daughter, Holly L. McBriety of Central Point; six brothers, Gordon Read of Medford, Paul Read of Central Point, Stan Read of Ashland, Rodney Read of Medford, Tom Read of Grants Pass, Michael Read of Central Point; three sisters, Cathy Lucas of Eugene, Mary Buchwald of Springfield, Joan Williams of Beaverton; numerous nieces and nephews; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, two brothers, Marvin and James Read.

Marjorie Elaine Metz
Marjorie Metz, 78, of Central Point died Sunday, April 4, 2004 at Providence Medical Center. Private services will be at a later date.

Marjorie was born Nov. 4, 1925 in Arthur, NE to Marion and Fannie (Eberspecher) Crouse. On Nov.. 8, 1952 in Wiesbaden, Germany she married John Metz, who survives. She and her family moved to the Rogue Valley in 1978 from Beal Air Force Base in California.

She served in the US Air Force, from 1950- 1953, also serving in Germany.

Marjorie was a homemaker, she enjoyed her family and was a member of ST. Francis Episcopal Church in Fortuna, CA.

Memorial contributions may be made to: the Southern Oregon Humane Society, 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford, OR 97501.

She is survived by her son, William Metz of Sacramento, CA; a daughter, Elaine Wadley of Grants Pass; a sister, Dona Kessler; and four grandchildren: Brandi, Levi, Dallas, and Blake Metz.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.

Robert Middleton Clark
A "Celebration of Life" service is planned for Robert Middleton Clark, 89, who died Monday, March 29, 2004 at his Ashland home. The celebration of life service will be on Monday, April 12 at 2 p.m. at Skylark Assisted Living, 900 Skylark Place, in Ashland, Oregon.

Bob Clark was born January 25, 1915 in Portland, Oregon to Clara (Poulton) and Robert Middleton Clark, Sr. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Portland and later attended college at Oregon State University, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.

During World War II, he served in the United States Army and was stationed in England and France.

Bob Clark married Kathleen "Kay" Lorraine Predmore in Stevenson, WA and they were married for more than 66 years. Bob and Kay Clark were a fun-loving, active, and adventurous couple who lived in many locales in Oregon, including Portland, Tigard, Lake Oswego, Seal Rock, and Jacksonville, and in Tiburon and Palos Verdes, California.

Bob and Kay made many friends during their lifetime and were always very active in their community. While living in Tiburon, Bob and Kay participated in "painting the town" - a community project to beautify downtown. Bob was also involved in community theater and was an active member of the Gaslight Players of Tiburon. The couple, along with friends, opened the first bowling alley in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

Bob was on the Board of Directors for the Britt Festival in Jacksonville, and served as Director for one term. Bob was involved in the Jacksonville Boosters and was a volunteer for the Vintage Wine Festival, Pioneer Days, and the Jacksonville Information Booth, among other activities. Bob and Kay were the owners/operators of an ivy fronted gift shop in Jacksonville called the "Hen House." Bob Clark spent the majority of his working life as a sales and marketing manager. While he was District Sales Manager for the Bell and Howell Company in the 1950's, he traveled extensively through the United States, including remote parts of Alaska. In the 1960's, he was the marketing manager for Code-a-phone Electronics and again he traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico. By the late 1950's, Bob had flown so many miles that United Airlines presented him with a plaque and made him a member of the "100, 000 mile" Club.

In the 1980's, Mr. Clark was the Jacksonville correspondent for the Daily Tidings.

After retirement, Bob and Kay traveled frequently. For many years they traveled in their motor home and they particularly enjoyed the time they spent in the desert in Arizona. Bob and Kay also made many trips to England where they were reconnected with relatives and friends.

After living more than 28 years in Jacksonville, Bob and Kay moved to Ashland in December 2002. Bob was a beloved resident of Skylark Assisted Living and will be missed by residents, staff, and family members.

Survivors include: four daughters: Judith "Judi" Gibbens of Issaquah, WA, Toby Coulter of Lake Oswego, Lorriane "Rainy" Olsen of Ashland, and Margaret "Peggy" Kindred of Portland; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Clark, three sisters, and his great-granddaughter, Rayleigha Coulter.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Samuel B. Harbison
A memorial service for Samuel B. Harbison will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2004 at the First Presbyterian Church of Medford. Pastor John Braund will officiate. Inurnment will be at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Mr. Harbison, 89, of Medford, died Friday (April 2, 2004) at his home.

He was born on April 25, 1914 in Rosslyn Farms, PA, to John W. and Olive (Bowman) Harbison. On June 24, 1972 in Aloha, Oregon, he married Mary Anne Harbison, who survives him.

Mr. Harbison served in the U.S. Army during WW II, receiving two silver stars.

He had been an attorney in private practice from 1952 to 1986. He also served as a house counsel for Jackson County Federal Savings & Loan Assoc.

Mr. Harbison had 3000 hours of volunteer service for Senior Services. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church his entire life. He was moderator for Presbytery of The Cascades, also moderator of Presbytery of Southwest.

In addition to his wife of 31 years, Mary Anne Harbison, survivors include: his daughter, Joan Becker of Medford; his son, Jim Harbison of Alabama; his step-son, Brian Keller of Texas; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Susan 'Sue' Margaret Bell
Susan "Sue" Margaret Bell, of Medford, passed away Friday (June 18, 2004) at Rogue Valley Medical Center, after fighting a short battle with cancer.

Susan, the daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian Stevens was born Oct. 18, 1947 in Barking, Essex England. She later married Eugene R. Bell on Nov. 4, 1967, who survives. The couple have two sons, Daryl Lee Bell, 35, and Jason Lee Bell, 21.

In addition to her husband, Eugene, survivors include her two sons, Daryl and Jason; mother-in-law, Bernadine Bell; brothers-in-law Bernard (Butch) and Debra Bell, Lawrence (Larry) and Marion Bell; sisters-in-law, Georgia A. Bell, and Linda and Franco Perez, all of Medford. One brother, Peter K. Stevens of Banbury, England, and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, June 22, at Conger Morris Funeral Home in Medford. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, at the Veterans National cemetery, in Eagle Point.
