Patricia Walden
Patricia Walden, 75, wife, mother, teacher and humanitarian, died July 6, 2004 at home after a short illness.

She spent her childhood in Billings, Oklahoma, attended Cottey College Missouri for 2 years, and Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas, where she met her first husband, Mendole Marsh. After a short residence in New Jersey where Pat did social work, the young family with their first child, Jeanie, came to Palo Alto, CA, where a second daughter, Sudee, was born. The little family lost their father to cancer after a few years, and Pat resumed her professional activities by entering the early-childhood teaching profession.

She married her second husband, Philip Walden, in 1962, and they continued the family's residence in Palo Alto until 1991. During most of that period, Pat was a kindergarten teacher in Palo Alto schools until she retired in 1986. In 1991, she and Philip moved to Ashland, where she was active in the Universalist Fellowship, AAUW and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) efforts. Inside the house, Pat liked to cook, and outside, she was a passionate gardener, earning her Master Gardener certificate. She loved flowers and giving and receiving lovely bouquets. Pat was an avid traveler and reader, and continued her education through SOLIR.

Gifts of remembrance may be made in Pat's name to CASA of Jackson County, 10 South Grape St., Medford, OR 97501.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at the Unitarian Center, 87 4th St., Ashland.

William Wesley Wales
The graveside service for William Wesley Wales will be held at 2 p.m. on July 13, at Eagle Point National cemetery. Rev. Flo Bohnert will be officiating.

Mr. Wales, 74, of Central Point, died July 8, 2004 at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Bill was born on July 1, 1930 in Glendale, CA and moved to Oregon in 1965. He owned and operated Central Window Cleaning and Janitor Service from 1966 until 1979.

He enjoyed fishing, making jewelry, his family, riding his bicycle, rock hounding, and was also a member of the Roxy Ann Gem & Mineral Society, Inc.

Survivors include: his wife of 54 years, Marjory; two sons, Steven of White City and Randy of Eagle Point; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.

Bobby Vanzant
Elizabeth 'Becky' (Bartlett) Vanzant Zoe Vanzant Bobby Vanzant, 27, his wife Elizabeth "Becky'', 24, their infant daughter, Zoe, one-month-old, and Becky's brother, Robert Bartlett, all of Central Point, died Sunday July 25, 2004 in an automobile accident on Highway 140.

The memorial service for Bobby, Becky, Zoe and Robert will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3 at Calvary Temple, located at 5th and Pine, Central Point. Rev. Glenn Tucker and Rev. Larry Spivey will officiate. Conger-Morris Funeral Directors in Medford is handling the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to: The Bartlett Family Memorial Fund at PremierWest Bank at the Branch offices in Central Point and Medford; or to the Vanzant/ Bartlett Memorial Fund at Key Bank in Medford.

Bobby
Bobby was born on Nov. 3, 1976 in Bakersfield, CA, a son of Rita McGraw. On July 25, 2003 he married Becky Bartlett.

He attended South Medford High School and worked at Pacific Tool and Gauge. He enjoyed camping and trips to the ocean.

Survivors include his two year old step-daughter, Juliana Bartlett, his mother Rita McGraw, sister, Shawna Stanley, his brother-in-law Josh Stanley, two nieces, and one nephew.

Becky
Becky was born on Aug. 1, 1979 in Medford, OR, a daughter of Rick and Roberta Bartlett. On July 25, 2003 she married her childhood friend turned love of her life, Bobby Vanzant.

She is a Crater High School graduate and she worked at Pacific Tool & Gauge.

She was a loving Mom to her two daughters and Becky enjoyed camping, and trips to the ocean.

Survivors include her two year old daughter, Juliana Bartlett; her parents, Rick and Roberta Bartlett, all of Central Point, sister Ginny Culver of Eagle Point, two nephews and a beautiful extended family of loving aunts and uncles.

Zoe
Zoe was born on June 5, 2004. To know this baby was to love her.We will miss you Zoe. We know you, your mommy, daddy and Uncle Robert are safe in God's care now.

We love you all, you will live in our hearts forever.

Marjorie Sawyer (Biller)
Marjorie Sawyer (Biller), beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Ashland, Oregon, on July 27, 2004, following a lengthy struggle with Parkinson's disease.

Marge was born October 13, 1923 to Bernard and Alice Sawyer in Castine, Maine. She spent a happy childhood in the coastal village and used her leisure time for swimming, fishing, learning about local wildlife, sledding and ice skating. She attended the Eastern Normal School following her graduation from high school.

Marge enlisted as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy with the advent of America's participation in WWII. Following the war, she received an Honorable Discharge and married Jack Biller in Alabama in 1946.

Marge and Jack raised four children (Tom, Don, Judy and Jim) in Ventura, California. She was an active volunteer with the local Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls (Bluebirds) organizations.

When empty nest syndrome occurred in the early 1970s, Marge became an avid horsewoman. She helped breathe new life into the Ventura County Saddle Club, emphasizing its youth events and trail rides. She and her horse went for regular trail rides on Sulpher and Pine Mountains. Marge continued to enjoy her horses throughout most of her life.

Upon moving to Ashland, Oregon she shifted her interests to the flocks of ducks at Lithia Park (Ashland), and the regular visits of wild turkeys, deer, and multitudes of small birds to her front yard.

Marge was predeceased by her parents, sister, two brothers, and her husband Jack (April 2003). She is survived by her children, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren; Tom (Liz; Grechen and Bill); Don (Jeannie; Beau, James, David and Christopher); Judy (Diana); and Jim (Susan-Marie: Dondra and Brianna).

Marge's ashes will be interred next to her father's grave at the family plot in Castine, ME.

May her sweet spirit be surrounded by her loved ones who have passed on before.

Mary L. Irwin
Mary L. Irwin, 92, of Klamath Falls, died July 29, 2004 at Merle West Medical Center of natural causes. At her request no services will be held.

She was born on April 30, 1912 in Tennessee to William and Eunice (Rawls) Long. Mrs. Irwin lived in Medford from 1971 until 1998 when she moved to Klamath Falls to be near her late husband's son, Gary A. Irwin and his family. Mrs. Irwin was originally from Mt. Pleasant Tennessee. She moved to New York City in the 1930's to live and work at MGM.

She was a member of the Christian Science Church for many years.

Survivors include: step-son, Gary and his wife, Barbara and their sons, Shawn R. Irwin and Bryan C. Irwin. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Irwin.

Arrangements: Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, Klamath Falls.

Richard Robert Britton
1946 - 2004 Rick Britton passed away July 26, 2004, while a heart patient at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene.

He is survived by his daughter Audra and her husband, Chad Dannen and infant grandson, Marshall Brit of Eugene; his parents, Robert and Martha Britton of Ashland; his sister, Diana Keller and her husband Richard; and their two daughters, Erin and Brittony San Jose; his brother Tom and his wife Christine and family of Riverside, CA.

He was a great believer in education and held several masters degrees. He was graduated with honors from the University of Oregon in Psychology; from Portland State in Social Work; Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo in Natural Resources; and Cal Poly in Pomona in Education. He was employed for some time as a psychologist at SOU. He also gave freely of his time at several Eugene clinics.

Rick was most proud of his service in the U.S. Marines during the height of the Viet Nam war. He was awarded several decorations: the Silver Star, Bronze Star, three Purple Hearts and numerous campaign ribbons.

A memorial service will be held at the Buell Funeral Home, Springfield, OR at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4. He will be interred at Arlington, VA National cemetery. A military service is scheduled for Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. at Arlington.

Robert Bartlett
Robert Bartlett, 23, of Central Point, died Sunday, July 25, 2004 in an automobile accident on Highway 140, along with his sister, Becky Vanzant, brother-in-law Bobby Vanzant and niece Zoe Vanzant.

The memorial service for Robert, Bobby, Becky and Zoe will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at Calvary Temple, located at 5th and Pine, Central Point. Rev. Glenn Tucker and Rev. Larry Spivey will officiate. Conger-Morris Funeral Directors in Medford is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his parents, Rick and Roberta Bartlett of Central Point, sister, Ginny Culver of Eagle Point, niece, Juliana Bartlett of Central Point; two nephews, and a beautiful extended family of loving aunts and uncles.

Dale Robert Cooper
The funeral service for Dale Robert Cooper will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, 1004, at Hillcrest Chapel, Medford.

A visitation will be held from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 31 at Hillcrest Chapel. Matt Garris will officiate.

Mr. Cooper, 48, of Gold Hill, died in Buenos Aires, Argentina on July 18, 2004.

Memorial contributions may be made to: The American Cancer Society, 31 S. 6th Street, Medford, OR 97501.

Dale Cooper was born on July 12, 1956 in Medford, OR. He had lived in the Rogue Valley most of his life, including, Phoenix, Medford, Jacksonville and Gold Hill.

He attended Medford Senior High.

Mr. Cooper served in the U.S. Army.

He worked for New Trend Interiors installing vinyl and carpets all his life. He retired one year ago due to his health.

Mr. Cooper enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, water skiing, picking Morel mushrooms, boating, and hiking. He enjoyed being busy, and taking care of everyday responsibilities. He loved his family and friends. Dale was a very strong man and was the Heavy Weight Tough Man Champion for three years.

Survivors include his mother, Carol Lackey of Phoenix; his father and stepmother, Robert and Joanne Cooper of Springfield, OR; a daughter, Kari Rose Cooper of Medford; a grandchild, Jona Llen Cooper of Medford; a sister, Rhonda Lee of Medford; and a nephew, Blake Lee of Medford.

Frank J. Swan
Franklin "Frank" Joseph Swan, 67, of Medford, died Monday (July 26, 2004).

He was born on July 6, 1937 in Watsonville, CA to Marie Josephine Sargent & Franklin Douglas Swan. Frank graduated from Bellarmine Prep in Santa Clara and earned a B.A. in Art and M.A. in Librarianship from San Jose State University.

Frank married Nancy Lynn Hanselman on June 24, 1961 and had one son, Frederick Douglas in 1964.

In 1970, Mr. Swan became Head of Branches and later Assistant Director of The Jackson County Library System in Medford. In 1982, he moved to Evanston, WY where he served as Uinta County Library Director until his retirement in 1999. In Evanston, Frank was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, The Gideons, and the Roundhouse Committee, as well as helping found the Evanston Rotary Club & served as President. The Swans returned to Medford in 1999. Frank was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Southern Oregon Philatelic Society and Roxy Ann Gem & Mineral Society. He was President and Scripture Secretary of the Gideon Rogue Valley North Camp.

He enjoyed his cat P.G., gardening and painting landscapes.

Viewing will be at Perl Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 30. A funeral service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 31, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Frank is survived by Nancy, his wife of 43 years; his son Fred and daughter-in-law, Eva, as well as many beloved cousins and friends.

Pauline June Cummings
A graveside service for Pauline June Cummings will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Memory Gardens, Medford.

Mrs. Cummings, 89, of Medford died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 in Medford.

She was born on June 21, 1915 in Hiteman, Iowa. She married Lloyd Cummings who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Cummings worked as a bookkeeper for Providence Hospital until her retirement.

Survivors include; two daughters, Jean Richardson, and Sharon Kline; a brother Carl Lundahl; a sister Irene Short; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford.

Barbara Wight
Memorial Services for Barbara Wight will be held on Tuesday, August 10, at 3 p.m. at the Ashland Elks Lodge, in the downstairs dining-room. All are welcome to attend.

Mae Avery Moore
A memorial service for Mae Avery Moore will be held at Perl Siskiyou Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, August 2, 2004 at 10 a.m. Officiating will be Reverend John Braund.

Mae, 94, died July 28, 2004. She was born February 28, 1910 in Chico, California, the daughter of William Bradford Avery and Irene Dawson Avery. She lived most of her life in the Rogue Valley. On December 8, 1934, she married Orie Stephen Moore, also a Medford resident, who preceded her in death in 1991.

She was proud of her pioneer great-grandparents who arrived into the Valley in 1864 by covered wagon and homesteaded in the Sams Valley area in the community of Beagle. She was a 54 year member of Roxy Ann Grange and was given an award for being their pianist for 20 years. Even in her last years she played the piano vigorously at family gatherings. She taught herself to play the piano as a young adult. She could play any tune that you could whistle or hum.

Mae enjoyed preparing meals at her home for her large circle of friends and relatives. She was always concerned for relatives and friends who were alone and would invite them to join her family for a meal. Lively games of pinochle followed the meals both at her home and at Fountain Plaza where she was a resident for the past six years.

Surviving are: her daughter Marianne Key and her husband, Jim of Medford; two grandchildren, Katherine Beach and Stephen Goldsby; and three great-grandchildren, all living in California. In addition to her husband, a brother and sister preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

We miss her and will not forget her.
