Paul A. Anderson
Paul A. Anderson, a leader in natural vision improvement who developed a vision recovery program while living in the Seattle area, died at home in Talent, Oregon, on August 12 of colon cancer.

Through his business, Mind & Sight Resources, he taught others to improve their eyesight for over 12 years. His work is cited in "The Definitive Guide to Alternative Medicine." Mr. Anderson, 60, was born in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from Muskingum College, in Ohio. He moved to Talent in 2000. A wearer of glasses since sixth grade, Mr. Anderson's nearsightedness had steadily declined to the point where he was legally blind without glasses. In 1978, he adopted a natural health diet and decided to see if he could improve his eyesight on his own. His effort was directed by two books - "The Art of Seeing" by the noted scientist Aldous Huxley and "Better Eyesight Without Glasses" by Dr. William H. Bates, a physician who is widely credited with being the world expert in natural vision. At first, Mr. Anderson took off his glasses and walked around his neighborhood for short periods of time. He recalled looking up once and for the first time he could remember he was able to see and read a billboard in the distance.
Following Dr. Bates' methods, he began exercising his eyes for three to four hours a day. Unhappy with his slow progress, Mr. Anderson discovered that he could improve his eyesight exclusively through relaxation. After several years, he recovered more than 80 percent of his vision and often saw perfectly normal for most of the day. "Knowing how to relax deeply at will, releasing all effort in the mind is a human skill that many of us lack today, " he said.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sharon Clelland Anderson; his mother, Marian Anderson Wagner of Medford; and a brother, Robert L. Anderson of Chandler, AZ. He was preceded in death by his father, W. C. Anderson.

A gathering in Paul's memory will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 21, at 166 Autumn Ridge Court, Talent.
