Helen Horton
No public services are planned for Helen Horton, 90, of Ashland, who died Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at the Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland.

She was born Helen Potter on August 9, 1913 in Collingswood, New Jersey to Robert and Lillian Potter.

After the death of her father, Helen moved to California with her mother and two sisters for a warmer climate. In 1950, she met and married Richard Horton, who preceded her in death in October 1995. They started an electrical contracting business and raised five children. In 1962, they moved to Oregon and finally settled in the Rogue Valley.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her two sisters. She is survived by a son, Robert Horton and his wife, Mary of Medford; a daughter, Dotti Kalemkeris and her husband, Christos of Ashland; a son Tom Horton and his wife Connie of Glendale, CA; her daughter Shirley Resnick and her husband Marvin of Northridge, CA; her daughter Patricia Umphenour and her husband Jesse of Burelson, TX; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.

Arrangements; Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

June Elizabeth Eatinger
June Elizabeth Eatinger, 85, of Ashland, died Saturday (Aug. 14, 2004) at her home. No services are planned.

Mrs. Eatinger was born on Aug. 30, 1918 in Lanark, IL. She moved to Ashland in June 1986.

She loved animals. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jackson County Animal Shelter, 5595 S. Pacific Hwy., Phoenix, OR 97535.

Survivors include a son, Edward Earl Eatinger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Carl Eatinger and a son, John Franklin Eatinger.

Mary Gloria Mora
Mary Gloria Mora, age 52, of Ashland, passed away, Thursday, August 19, 2004.

A celebratiion of her life has been held. Rosary Services were held August 20, 2004 at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 21, 2004 at Our Lady of the Mountain, Catholic Church with Pastor Joseph officiating. Burial was at Mountain View cemetery in Ashland.

Mary was born in Los Angeles and raised in La Puente, California. She recently moved to Oregon and is survived by her husband, George M. Mora; a son, Max A. Mora and his wife Tami; her grandchildren, Zachary, Brianna and Frankie. She is survived her brother Tony Molina and wife Dolores; their daughters, Raeleen and Antoinette; son, Tony Jr., his wife Mary, and their children: Dennis, Jordan, Brandon, Rory, Lonny, wife Maribel, and their children: Eric, Matthew, Klarika, Perdita, Denise, husband Mike, and their children: Serena, Stephanie, and Jake. Also surviving are her sisters, Sylvia Roseli and her daughters: Paulette and Jessica, husband Greg, and their children: Brian, Nick and Megan; and sister, Yolanda Archuleta, husband Rudy, and their daughters: Bernadette, husband Mike, and their children: Jeremy, Cady, Victoria, husband Marc, and their children: Tyler and Mya.

Mary loved her husband, daughter, son, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and family more than life itself.

We love you wife, mom, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend.

You will be missed all the days of our lives.

Mary Trim
Mary Trim, 71, died at her Medford home Friday August 13, 2004.

She was born February 5, 1933 in Medford, the daughter of Raymond and Mazie Miksche. She attended the University of Oregon in Eugene where she met her future husband Peter Trim of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. They were wed in June of 1952.

After settling in Medford, Mary forged a life of great devotion to family and friends, and faithful service to her Medford community and church. She discovered a uniquely creative entrepreneurial spirit as her children became more independent. Bird Stix, her giftware manufacturing and marketing company grew and flourished in the 1970s. She and her husband Peter purchased an office products store in the mid 1980s. Trim Office Products was launched and she and Peter took pride in their business as it served the needs of the local community.

Mary was a past member of The Junior Service League and a sustaining member of The Gold Diggers Guild.

She attended St. Mark's Episcopal Church and belonged to The Colony Club. Mary was a participant in The Contemporary Book Club and showed great compassion as a volunteer for the Rogue Valley Medical Center Auxiliary. She was an avid contract bridge player with her Bridge Group of 25 years.

Mary was a beloved wife, a loving mother, a devoted grandmother, a steadfast sister and friend. She had a thirst for knowledge and a gratitude for her new community at the Rogue Valley Manor.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Peter. Mary's survivors include her four children, Allison Jackson, Leslie Trim, Stephanie Stirm, and Brian Trim. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, her sister Stephanie Morehouse and her brother Mike Miksche.

A memorial service was held Tuesday morning August 17th at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with internment that afternoon at Siskiyou Memorial Park. The family was blessed to have Father Chuck Christopher officiating.

Contributions may be sent to the St. Mark's Episcopal Church Building Fund at 426 W. 6th Street, Medford OR, 97501 or to a charity of your choice.

The family extends its most heartfelt gratitude to Mary's friends and community family who surrounded them with their love and clear voices that spoke to the remarkable woman she was.

We will forever miss her smile.

Maurine Peeks
Maurine Caroline Wacker Peeks was born on April 23, 1922, in Wilton, Iowa, a daughter of Harold and Etha Doran Wacker.

She died on August 20, 2004 at the Medford Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Medford.

Maurine attended the Zion Lutheran Schools and graduated from Wilton High School in 1939. During World War II, she served in the Navy (WAVES) in Washington D.C. On January 13, 1945, she married Norman Peeks in Baltimore, Maryland. Norman and Maurine were the parents of five children: Pamela, Melanie, Frederick ("Rick"), Sandra and Suzanne. She worked in her husband's business in the early years and later in the retail business.

In 1984, Maurine moved to Medford. She was a volunteer with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program for several years. She loved her family, helped raise her Oregon grandchildren and enjoyed shopping.

Maurine is survived by her daughters, Pam Lucas of Medford, Melanie Stamos of Prairie Village, Kansas, Sandra Jandik of Eagan, Minnesota and Suzanne Peeks of Medford. Also surviving are her sisters, Anita Wyatt and Glenna Van Atta of Wilton, Iowa; and her brothers, Harold Wacker Jr. of Wilton, Iowa and Steve Wacker of Marana, Arizona; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Her parents, her husband Norman, and her son, Rick, preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held on August 29, 2004, at Zion Lutheran Church, in Wilton, Iowa.

Memorial contributions can be made to: Kidneeds - GCRC Foundation, 200 First St. SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404. Kidneeds main purpose is to stimulate medical research on MPGN type 2 - a kidney disease.

Melvin Lee Peterson
Melvin Lee Peterson, 77, of Medford, died Thursday, August 19, 2004 at his home.

Family and friends may pay their respects between noon and 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at Memory Gardens Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m., officiated by Pastor Williams Lehmann of St. Peters Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Avenue, Suite 10, Medford, OR 97504.

Melvin was born July 16, 1927 in Wolsey, SD. From South Dakota, he moved to the Rogue Valley in 1936.

In Reno, NV on August 21, 1964 he married Delores Rose. He passed away 2 days before his 40th Anniversary.

He was an Ashland Ranger District volunteer, assistant manager at Desert Paradise RV Park in Yuma, AZ. He was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church and Moose Lodge. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and the outdoors.

He worked for Bernards Floor Covering for 14 years. He and his brother, Robert Peterson, owned Specialty Contractor, Inc. for 28 years.

Survivors include: his wife Delores Peterson of Medford; two daughters, Melody Lee Peterson of Medford, and Cheryl Ann Maertz of Central Point; Robin Ray Rossi of Central Point; brother, Robert Peterson of Medford; and grandchildren: Mellisa Rogers, Kianna Rossi, Helena Rossi, Talhia Rossi, Justin Peterson, Aaron Peterson, Donald Maertz and Dalton Maertz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reimer Henry Peterson and Marguerita Caroline (Graham) Peterson.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Rusty Miller
Rusty Miller, 58, passed away on Aug. 18, 2004, at his home in Butte Falls. He was born in Medford Oregon and lived in the valley for many years.

Services will be held at the Butte Falls Community Bible Church in Butte Falls, on Friday, Aug. 27, at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Dick Earl of Eagle Point and Jan Cooper of Sacramento.

Rusty's parents were Albert and Cecile Miller who had lived in the valley since 1937. Both deceased.

On October 7, 1972, in Reno Nevada Rusty married Mary Anne Elrod.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Mary Anne Elrod-Miller; two sons, Jefrey Miller of Salem and Todd Miller of Corcoran, CA; one daughter, Ona Boyce of Gladstone; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Also surviving is his sister, Kemra Martin-Arias living in Gladstone, OR.

Rusty was a pipefitter for 32 years and retired in 2002. He loved fishing and hunting. He volunteered his time to community service and helping historical societies.

He was a Viet Nam veteran.

C.E. 'Chuck' Pedersen
C.E. "Chuck" Pedersen, 74, died at his Medford home Saturday August 21, 2004 surrounded by his loving family.

Chuck was born February 8, 1930 in Guide Rock, NE, the son of Henry and Doris Pedersen. He came to Oregon in 1948 and started his career in banking with First National Bank of Oregon.

In 1949, he joined the United States Air force and after discharge in 1953 entered Oregon State University and worked part-time for First National Bank of Oregon. After graduation, the bank employed him full-time. Chuck was also a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington. Chuck managed branch offices in Prineville, Pendleton, and Medford, Oregon and was Regional Vice President in charge of Southern Oregon branches prior to being named Chief Executive Officer of First Interstate Bank of Great Falls, MT. In 1985, he was promoted to Chief Executive Officer of First Interstate Bank of Casper, WY and held that position until retiring in 1990, ending a career in banking that spanned 43 years.

Throughout his career and life Chuck was very active in civic, community and state affairs such as the United Way, Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts of America, Rotary, Masonic Lodge, University Club, the Casper College Foundation, OSU Alumni Association, Montana Bankers Association, Wyoming Bankers Association and the C.M. Russell Museum.

Chuck loved the outdoors and was an avid fly fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed reading of all sorts and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Wanda Pedersen; two daughters, Marsha Easterday, and Kirsten Mizrachi and her husband Tommy; three sons, Merle and his wife Sarah, Mark, and Eric and his wife Nancy; and eight grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother Wayne and his wife Tana; two sisters, Phyllis Baxter and her husband Bill, and Judy Cole.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to: Shriners' Children's Hospital; or Hospice of Medford, OR; or to The American Cancer Society.

Maxine M. Anderson
Maxine M. Anderson, 93, of Medford passed away Thursday (August 19, 2004) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

She was born the eldest daughter of Grace and Henry Hofmann on July 23, 1911, in Kooskia, Idaho. Maxine spent her early years in Moscow, Idaho and graduated from Moscow High School and graduated with a bachelors degree in Home Economics Education from the University of Idaho in 1935. After graduation she taught Home Economics in Idaho high schools. On February 3, 1938 she married Emerson T. Anderson in Lewiston, Idaho. They made their first home in Lewiston, and in succeeding years in LaGrande, OR and then to Medford in 1939.

She assisted her husband in the Anderson Dental Laboratory for many years. She was Food Service Director for the Medford School District for 12 years, retiring in 1977.

Maxine was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Medford. As a volunteer she was active with the Boy and Girl Scouts, PTA, State Treasurer of Republican Women, past president of AAUW Medford, Kiwanian Dames, and Mended Hearts. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, brother Alvin Hofmann and sister Velma Mason.

Maxine is survived by her son Donald E. Anderson (Eleanor) of Bedford, TX; and grandchildren Deborah Anderson of Beaverton, OR and Eric Anderson of Austin, TX; also son Richard C. Anderson of Tucson, AZ, and grandsons Jeffrey Anderson (Nicole) of Pleasant Hill, CA and Darren Anderson ofTucson, AZ. She is also survived by brothers, Harold Hofmann (Lorraine), Robert Hofmann (Louise) and sisters Helen McConkey (Robert) and Jeanne Galletly (James), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her Service will be held on Saturday, August 28, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Medford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mended Hearts, Chapter 137, 4691 Toney Pines Dr. Medford, OR 97501 or to the First United Methodist Church, 607 West St., Medford, OR 97501.

Melvin Lee Peterson
Melvin Lee Peterson, 77, of Medford, died Thursday, August 19, 2004 at his home.

Rusty Miller
Rusty Miller, 58, passed away on Aug. 18, 2004, at his home in Butte Falls. He was born in Medford Oregon and lived in the valley for many years.

Ruth L. (Knight) Cunha
Ruth Lynne (Knight) Cunha, 82, of Medford, died Aug. 14, 2004 in Pleasant Hill, OR. No services are planned.

She was born on Dec. 29, 1921 in Silverton, OR to Charles and Katheryn Ahl. In 1936 she married Earl Knight, they later divorced. In 1984 she married Charles Cuhna who preceded her in death.

Ruth worked as a Director for the Medford Senior Center until her retirement five years ago.

She was a member of the Lamplighters, the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, and she was a member of the Medford's first Ordinance Review Committee.

Ruth enjoyed gardening, her family, and her dogs. When she was younger she enjoyed water skiing, swimming, and camping.

Survivors include; two sons, Earl "Skip" Knight, and M. Sterling Knight; and 16 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband Earl, second husband Chuck, two sons, Lynn "Sunny" Knight, Stephen Knight and her brothers and sisters.
