Troni Kae Graber
Troni Kae Graber, 37, of Medford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 21, 2004 at the Beverly H. Schaffer House in Medford, after a 27-month bout with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's Disease.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2004 at FBC The River in Medford.

Troni was born August 13, 1967 in Mesquite, Texas, the first daughter of John and Kae Brettschneider. She attended school in the San Diego area, but returned to Texas with her parents in 1976.

Troni was an inquisitive child that loved to ask questions and listen to stories. In 1974, eight-year-old Troni accepted Jesus Christ into her heart, an event that would shape her life's path to come. She approached her relationship with God with unrelenting devotion and trust, and she continued to talk to God and study the Bible with enthusiasm throughout her teen years. She shared a special bond with her father, with whom she would often talk deep into the night, sharing questions and insight about the Bible and the nature of God. In 1983, she moved with her father and step-mother to Fort Collins, Colo., where she attended Fort Collins High School, graduating in 1985.

As a teenager, Troni was known for her bubbly personality and sharp sense of humor, as long as she was given two hours to properly wake up. She was never a morning person. Troni regularly donned her signature colors of peach and pink, and had more than her share of earrings and charm bracelets. Her parents affectionately recall her first job and first car (Poubelle, meaning "trash can" in French), as events that shaped her teenage life.

After brief stints in Alabama and Texas, Troni settled in Medford in 1990, where she has since resided. She joined First Baptist Church, where she has built a network of devoted and loving friends. Having discovered a knack and a passion for caregiving and fostering the needs of others, Troni trained to become a certified nurse's assistant. She put her skills to work at Linda Vista Care Center in Ashland, where she brought joy and dignity to the lives of many elderly and disabled patients. Troni left Linda Vista to briefly work for Sonitrol Security Systems in Medford, before joining the Southern Oregon ESD STEPS program in 1994 as an educational assistant.

On July 16, 1993, she married Lee Graber in Medford. Lee and Troni approached their marriage with affection, trust and faith, striving to foster loving relationships and responsible paths for their children. They enjoyed riding motorcycles on sunny days, eating out, watching movies, playing computer games, and nurturing the kids' educational and sports activities.

In her heart, Troni was a caregiver. She was a teacher in the truest sense of the word, bringing warmth, patience and humor to the lives of each of her "kids." She supported and encouraged her co-workers, and lived her Christian beliefs at work by her attitudes and actions. She had a beautiful smile and laugh that will remain with those that worked with her, and those blessed to call her a friend. To her friends and family, Troni exuded loyalty and affection, yet she could always be relied on for brutal honesty and tough love. In early 2002, Troni set a goal to continue her education and further her career. She subsequently enrolled at Rogue Community College - but that task was cut short by her devastating ALS diagnosis in May. While friends and family rallied around her, she resolved to foster and enhance the relationships in her life. Despite the gradual decline of her physical strength, Troni met each day with bravery, spiritual and emotional fervor. Although she and her family struggled to cope with her condition, her final two years were filled with an outpouring of love, laughter and revelry. Troni, treasured wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend - we will forever miss you, but are heartened by His promise that we will see you again. She is survived by her devoted husband, Lee Graber of Medford; her beloved children, Michael and Robin Graber, and foster daughter Alicia Febus of Medford; father and stepmother, John and Pat Brettschneider of Austin, Texas; mother and stepfather, Kae and Hiluard Amos of Attalla, Ala.; sister and brother-in-law, Ginger and Robert Flores of Austin, Texas; father- and mother-in-law, Hal and Nancy Graber of Medford; grandparents Ray and Doris Rhodes of Medford; as well as numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, co-workers and extended family.
