Harold C. Sitterley

January 3 1919 - October 10, 2003

Harold C. Sitterley, 84 of Lincoln Avenue, Butler, died Friday, October 10, 2003 in UPMC - Shadyside Hospital.

Born January 3, 1919 in Lomoore, Virginia, he was the son of Homer A. Sitterley and Dorothy E. Tauberschmidt.

He was a Retail Manager for the former Gaylords Department Store in Butler and was co-owner/operator with his wife of a retail business selling honey products. He was an active member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth M. Gray Sitterley whom he married on January 6, 1948, one son, Harold C. Sitterley of Hartsville, South Carolina, two daughters, Mrs. Steven (Judy) Bates and Mrs. Don (Deberah) Langager both of San Diego, California, Thirteen Grandchildren, Three Great-Grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Doris Miller of Seneca, Pennsylvania, one brother, Melvin Sitterley of Titusville, Pennsylvania, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were two brothers.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, on Monday, October 13, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend John Neyman officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Contributions may be sent to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 771 Mercer Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Frances L. Shawkey

Frances L. Shawkey, of Lumar Village, Butler, died Sunday, November 30, 2003 at 8:35 p.m. at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of George S. Leith and Jeanne Hill.

Mrs. Shawkey was a retired school teacher for the Butler Area School District. She was a member of North Street Christian Church.

Mrs. Shawkey is survived by one sister, Mrs. Lillian Shaffer of Butler, Pennsylvania, three nieces, Nancy Bonnett, Sally Beals, Maxine Jackson, and one nephew, Charles Leith.

Mrs. Shawkey is preceded in death by her husband Merrill Shawkey, who passed away on August 5, 1983 and by two brothers and one niece.

There will be no public visitation

Entombment will follow in Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Butler County Memorial Park.

Guy M. Stirling

February 20, 1918 - September 13, 2003

Guy M. Stirling, Jr., 85 formerly of Evans City Road, died Saturday, September 13, 2003 in Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Grove City.

Born February 20, 1918 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Guy M. Stirling, Sr. and Blanche Fleeger.

He was the owner and operator of Stirling Riding Stables and also was a partner with his brother Chuck in Stirling Feed and Garden Shop. He was a member of St. Andrew's United Presbyterian Church. Mr. Stirling was a veteran of WW II serving in the Army.

Surviving are Many Nieces and Nephews.

Preceding him in death was his sister, Blanche Gardner, two brothers Charles F. and William Earl Stirling.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, on Friday, September 19, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday, September 20, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend James Mohr officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Vera J. Tack

January 16, 1920 - December 31, 2003

Vera J. Tack, 83, formerly of Monroe Street, died 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2003 in Chicora Medical Center.

Born January 16, 1920 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Carl E. Tack and Ruth J. Yarger.

Miss Tack was employed as a bookkeeper for Pittsburgh Home Savings & Loan, Butler Office. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are one sister, Mrs. June Bruce of Chicora, PA, three nieces and three nephews.

A brother preceded her in death.

Private services were held Friday January 2, 2003 at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. with her church pastor, the Rev. J. David Panther, officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery.

Helen K. Thompson

September 28, 1910 - December 11, 2003

Helen K. Thompson, 93 of Butler, died Thursday, December 11, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born September 28, 1910 in Argentine, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Elizabeth (Funkhouser) Latshaw.

Mrs. Thompson was a Retired schoolteacher for Butler County Schools. She was a member of West Freedom United Methodist Church. Mrs. Thompson was an alumni of Slippery Rock Normal School class of 1930. In 1948 she graduated from Slippery Rock State College with a B.S. degree in education. She is the first surviving teacher of the Renfrew School where she taught for 28 years. Mrs. Thompson also taught 7 years in North Washington Township. She was a life member of Slippery Rock Alumni Association, also a member of the local, state and national teacher's associations. She volunteered for 10 years at the Butler Area Public Library and 25 years for the Symphony Boutique.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by three sisters, Mary Jordan of Ridgeway, Pennsylvania, Dorothy Bowser of Parker, Pennsylvania, Faye Garris of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, number of nieces, nephews and cousins, and her good friend, Joy Patterson McAleer.

Mrs. Thompson is preceded in death by her husband Martin E. Thompson, who passed away on November 27, 1967; three sisters and one brother.

There will be no public visitation or service. Arrangements are being handled by the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania.

Interment will be in Eau Claire cemetery.

Contributions may be sent to Butler Area Public Library, 218 North McKean Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Doris L. Vogt

October 24, 1921 - December 4, 2003

Doris L. Vogt, 82 of Sugarcreek Rest in Worthington, died Thursday, December 4, 2003 in Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.

Born October 24, 1921 in Chicora, PA, she was the daughter of Carl A. Schultz and Clara Faull.

During WWII, Mrs. Vogt worked at Aircraft Plant in Lima, OH. She also was employed as a salesperson for J.C. Penney's for many years in Butler and she was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Highland Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock, PA. Mrs. Vogt also belonged to the Order of Amaranth #145 and the Clarion Chapter #267 Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Kathy) Madden of Butler, PA, two sons, Larry William Vogt of Grove City, PA, and Dr. Danny E. Vogt of Delaware, OH, ten grandchildren and one great granddaughter, two brothers, Carl A. Schultz of San Gabriel, CA, and Frank R. Schultz of Jackson, MI, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband William J. Vogt who was deceased July 30, 2002, one sister, one brother and one infant sister.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, on Saturday December 6, 2003 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 pm.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday December 6, 2003 at 8:00 pm with Reverend Michelle Nickodemus, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to Fisher Presbyterian Church in Fisher, PA, 16225 or to Highland Presbyterian Church, 310 Franklin Street, Slippery Rock, PA 16057 or to the Butler Memorial Hospital Foundation Stroke Program, 911 East Brady Street, Butler, PA 16001.

Curtis Garth White

May 6, 1912 - December 11, 2003

Curtis Garth White, 91 of Meridian, died Thursday, December 11, 2003 at 7:16 a.m. at Butler V A Medical Center.

Born May 6, 1912 in Muddycreek Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Curtis L. White and Ruby O. Stewart.

Mr. White was a retired equipment operator for W. L. Roe Company.

He was a member of Meridian United Presbyterian Church. Mr. White was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, life member of the Meridian Vet's Club, member of the meridian Volunteer Fireman Company, life member of Tanglewood Senior Center, a member of the U. S. Army Air Corps. and a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in WW II.

Mr. White is survived by his companion, Phyllis M. Bilowich of Butler, Pennsylvania.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Helen M. White, deceased on March 16, 1974 and by two sisters and one brother.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, on Sunday, December 14, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Monday, December 15, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Stephen Cahoon officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Victor R. Wise

July 13, 1921 - November 24, 2003

Victor R. Wise, 82, formerly of Eckstein Road in Renfrew, died Monday, November 24, 2003 in Passavant Retirement Center in Zelienople.

Born July 13, 1921 in Butler, PA, he was the son of Earl Victor Wise and Helen Roth.

Mr. Wise was a member of The First English Lutheran Church. He retired as a mail carrier for Butler Post Office in 1980 after 37 years of service. He was a life member of the Butler Elks Lodge #170 and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Mr. Wise served as a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troup #12, which met at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church for twelve years. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII.

Surviving are his two daughters, Ellen Riley of Houston, TX and Mrs. Elwood (Andrea) Bressler of Curwensville, PA, four grandchildren and one great grandson, two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Evelyn) Clark and Mrs. Lorraine Kesterson of Butler, PA, and a number of nieces and nephews.

His wife, Mary E. Wihelm preceded him in death on September 3, 1999.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, from Wednesday November 26, 2003 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm. There will be no visitation on Thursday November 27, 2003 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Services will be held at the First English Lutheran Church, Friday November 28, 2003 at 11:00 am with the Reverend James W. Dollhopf officiating.

Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park. V.F.W. Post #249 will present military honors at the cemetery.
