Virginia L. Hurley

May 14, 1937 - September 19, 2003

Virginia L. Hurley, 66 of Cliff Street, Butler, died Friday, September 19, 2003 at her residence. Born May 14, 1937 in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Homer J. Fish and Maria Kollar.

She worked and retired as a certified Nurses Aid for Butler Memorial Hospital. She was active church member of First United Methodist Church, she was a member of small groups, a volunteer in the church office and for the community meals. Mrs. Hurley was a watercolor artist and the former owner of The Stencil Shop. She had been a former Girl Scout leader. She was an alumnus of Winfield High School and attended the Butler County Community College. Her family thought of her as the "Best Mother", "Grandma", "Sister", and "Aunt" in the world!

Surviving are three Daughters, Mrs. David J. (Jami) Michael of East Brady, Pennsylvania, Mrs. John J. (Sandi) Eppinger of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Raymond R. (Misi) Fleske, Jr. of Butler, Pennsylvania, Six Grandchildren, one Sister, Mrs. Joseph H. (Carole) Sauers of Harmony, Pennsylvania, nine Nieces and four Nephews, five Great Nieces and seven Great Nephews.

Preceding her in death was her husband James E. Hurley on May 20, 1992.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, September 21, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Monday September 22, 2003 at 1:00 PM with the Reverend J. David Panther officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Contributions may be sent to First United Methodist Church, 200 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

H. Claire Hetrick

October 21, 1925 - September 1, 2003

H. Claire Hetrick, 77, of 105 Cara Lane died at 4:02 a.m. Monday at Butler Memorial Hospital

Born in Slate Lick, Armstrong County, Oct. 21, 1925, she was the daughter of Robert D. and Mollie L. Dimit Rhea.

Mrs. Hetrick was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing and gardening.

She was a member of Meridian United Presbyterian Church and had taught Sunday school for many years. She also belonged to the Sarah Elizabeth Missionary Circle, Buttercup Garden Club, Meridian Volunteer Fireman's Auxiliary and the Meridian Home Extension group.

Surviving are her husband, Bernard A. Hetrick, whom she married Oct. 8, 1944; a son, Paul Robert Hetrick of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Drena Marie Hetrick of Butler; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Lloyd G. (Dorothy) Nunmaker of East Brady; a brother, John D. Rhea of Newnan, Ga.; and several nieces also survive.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie Ferol Hetrick, and a brother.

HETRICK - Friends of H. Claire Hetrick, who died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, will be received from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Butler County Memorial Park, Butler Township.

Ruth E. Hedglin

February 25, 1924 - December 17, 2003

Ruth E. Hedglin, age 79 of Cherry Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at 10:50 a.m. at the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born February 25, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Redmond and Hazel Knauff.

Mrs. Hedglin was a homemaker, she loved shopping flea markets and yard sales.

She was married to Donald Edward Hedglin, Sr, he preceded her in death on December 29, 1987.

She is survived by one son: Donald Edward Hedglin, Jr.of Butler, Pennsylvania, two daughters: Mrs. Edward Bonnie McCormick and Mrs. William (Linda) Cashmere both of Butler, Pennsylvania, eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, two sisters: Mrs. Loyal (Edna) White of Hillsville, Pennsylvania and Sylvia Jean Wansitler of New Castle, Pennsylvania, many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister.

Family and friends of Ruth E. Hedglin will be received on Friday, December 19, 2003 from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc. 124 East North St. Butler, Pennsylvania 16001. There will be no funeral services at this time.

Interment will Follow in The Butler County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the American Heart Association, to the Diabetes Association or directly to the family to help defray expenses.

Steve Halahurich

March 24, 1924 - February 8, 2004

Steve Halahurich, 79 of South Duffy Road, Butler, died Sunday, February 8, 2004 at 12:50 p.m. at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born March 24, 1924 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Alex Halahurich and Eva Popudnyk.

Mr. Halahurich was a steel worker for Armco Steel for 43 years. He was a member of St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Butler High School, class of 1942. Mr. Halahurich was a member of the VFW Post 249 and American Legion Post 778, and a veteran of the U. S. Army.

Mr. Halahurich is survived by his wife, Dolores J. Halahurich, whom he married on March 31, 1949, a two sons, James J. Halahurich of Templeton, Pennsylvania, Stephen D. Halahurich of Butler, Pennsylvania, four daughters, Bonnie A. Mitchell of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, Donna M. Bobby of Butler, Pennsylvania, Kathryn L. Hortert of Gaylestown, Maryland, Eva (Tina) Plaisted of Butler, Pennsylvania, nine Grandchildren and three Great-Grandchildren, one sister, Mary Youshock of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, one brother, William Halahurich of Lyndora, Pennsylvania, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were two brothers and two sisters.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral liturgy will be held at the St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Lyndora on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Dennis Bogda officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Persis Johnson Grupen

August 22, 2003 - October 15, 2003

Persis Johnson Grupen, 89 of formerly of Zelienople, died Wednesday, October 15, 2003 in Evergreen Nursing Center, Harmony.

Born August 22, 1914 in Hancock, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of the late Fred Johnson and Mary Miller.

She worked as a Secretary for Rumford Printing Company. She was Presbyterian by faith. Mrs. Grupen was a veteran of WW II serving as a 1st Sergeant to Women's Army Auxiliary she retired in 1945-1946 as a Master Sergeant.

Surviving are one sister, Jean McDonald of Concord, New Hampshire, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband William G. Grupen, four brothers, one sister, and two nephews.

There will be no public visitation or services.

Interment will be in North Side cemetery. Arrangements by Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc.

Robert Frederick Grindel

May 12, 1923 - September 16, 2003

Robert Frederick Grindel, 80 of Maplewood Drive in Butler, died Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born May 12, 1923 in Irwin, Pennsylvania, he was the son of John J. Grindel and Magdalena George.

He was retired from Armco Steel following 32 years of service. Mr. Grindel was a WW II veteran serving in the Air Force. He was a charter member of St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church where he was a member of Parish Council, member of the ushers club and past president of Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Unionville Grange where he was Master from 1984-1994, and a state grange member. He was an avid home gardener.

Surviving are one son, Robert Dennis Grindel of Libertyville, Illinois, two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Patricia) Rajchel of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Robert (Linda) Herman of Butler, Pennsylvania, Seven Grandchildren, three brothers, Ambrose Grindel of Zelienople, Louis Grindel of Evans City, Norbert Grindel of Butler, five sisters, Magdalena Kainz of Pittsburgh, Rose Jesteadt of Prospect, Audrey Mathews of Valencia, Lorraine Bray of Pittsburgh, Lillian Davis of Harrisburg.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Lila Gertrude Grindel, who passed away on March 29, 2003, a sister, Mary Jesteadt and a brother, John Grindel.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, September 18, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at the funeral Home on Thursday at 6:45 p.m.

Services will be held at the St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church, Friday, September 19, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. with Father James Salberg officiating. Interment will follow in Saint Peters cemetery. Contributions may be sent to Saint Andrews Roman Catholic Church, 1660 North Main Street Ext., Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Ethel F. Green

June 21, 1913 - November 9, 2003

Ethel F. Green, 90 of Hindman Road, formerly of Third Avenue, Butler, died Sunday, November 9, 2003 at Sunnyview Home.

Born June 21, 1913 in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Raymond Bowser and Myrtle Bowser.

She was retired for G. C. Murphy's. Mrs. Green was a member of the First Baptist church, Women's Missionary Society and the Truth Seeker's Sunday School class at First Baptist Church.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Jack (Margie) Van Gorder, Mrs. John (Merna) Patten both of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Harold (Norma) Huber, Mrs. David (Joyce) Shaw both of Sterling Heights, Michigan, Mrs. Ronald (Carol) Bowen of Sterling, Virginia, one son, James A. Green of Butler, Pennsylvania, Sixteen Grandchildren,Twenty-two Great- Grandchildren, One Great-Great-Grandchild, One Step Great-Great Grandchild, and a number of niece and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her husband James Green, who passed away in 1971, three sisters and two brothers.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, on Tuesday, November 11, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend David Maitland Officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Contributions may be sent to First Baptist Church Christian School, 221 West New Castle Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Julius Golz

September 11, 1914 - August 19, 2003

Julius Golz, 88, of 135 Pal-Mar Drive in Center Township died at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at his home.

Born September 11, 1914, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of Julius and Olga Garn Golz.

He retired as an inspector at Cressline Window in Corry, Erie County. He was a World War II Army veteran.

Mr. Golz was a Catholic.

His wife, Mildred Golz, died Sept. 24, 2002. He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

GOLZ - Friends of Julius Golz, who died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, will be received from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. A blessing service will follow at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ray Trance, pastor at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be at Butler County Memorial Park & Mausoleum, Butler Township.
